Mercy Thompson [Dramatized Adaptation] #3

Iron Kissed [Dramatized Adaptation]

Rate this book
“Expect to be spellbound”* by Patricia Briggs’s #1 New York Times bestselling series starring Mercy Thompson. Being a lowly “walker” in a world of vampires, werewolves, and fae once kept her safe. But Mercy’s bark—and bite—are not so harmless any more…

Though Mercy can shift her shape into that of a coyote, her loyalty never wavers. So when her former boss and mentor, Zee, asks for her help, she’s there for him. A series of murders has rocked a fae reservation, and Zee needs her unique gifts, namely her coyote sense of smell, to sniff out the killer.

But when Zee is accused of murdering the suspect Mercy outed, he’s left to rot behind bars by his own kind. Now it’s up to Mercy to clear his name, whether he wants her to or not.

Mercy’s loyalty is under pressure from other directions, too. Werewolves are not known for their patience, and if Mercy can’t decide between the two she cares for, Sam and Adam may make the choice for her...

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

A series of murders in the fae community, a friend accused of murder, conflicted relationship issues, and Mercy's life couldn't get more interesting- only, it really could. Captivating story with a shocking and intense finish for this third of the Mercy Thompson series.

This is a series that really should be read/listened to in order. Iron Kissed assumes the reader is familiar with the Mercy Thompson world, the characters, and the events leading up to this story.

Mercy is called in by Zee and Uncle Mike to repay the favor she owes the fae for borrowing one of their artifacts. She is meant to help them discover the culprit in a handful of fae murders that have been hushed up. Her coyote nose leads her in a surprising direction and soon after Zee is taken by the human police as the prime suspect in a murder. The fae are willing to toss Zee under the bus to get things quickly dealt with and hushed up. Mercy is not. She keeps pushing for the truth even when she is warned away and threatened.

Meanwhile, Mercy has to figure out her feeling when it comes to the two alpha werewolves who see her as a potential mate. There is Samuel, her first love, and there is Adam, the local pack alpha who scares her because he arouses deep feelings that make her want to give in. And Mercy wants to run from both choices while at the same time she knows deep down the one she wants to make.

This third installment turns the focus to the fae community and offers up a cunning murder mystery ala paranormal-style. Mercy is the chief character and the sole narrator. Pacing varies and is varied by action, character and relationship plot development. Iron Kissed gives a lot of background into the fae as a race, but also tackles Mercy's private battles when it comes to love and a horrific event she may just not come back from.

The author has stellar writing ability and it shines in this gutsy third book where she allows her tough heroine to experience a dark and desperate moment of helplessness and weakness. This book will be a turning point in the series.

For this reading, I experienced Iron Kissed in Graphic audio format. Full cast with sound effects and music is a super listening experience. I saw this story clearly in my mind and felt it as they told it.

In summary, another amazing story from the Mercy Thompson series. I am in high anticipation of my next encounter with the series. Urban Fantasy lovers really must reach for this series.

The One Where I Fell In Love With Ben

This series has been improving with each book.
I like how each book so far has been focused on a different species. The first was centered around the wolves, the second around vampires, and this one is about the faes and their mysterious artefacts. When Zee is wrongfully arrested for the death of a human and fae artefacts go missing, Mercy is willing to do almost anything to help her friend and mentor.

Mercy showed, once again, how she can be cunning and resourceful, but also reckless when it comes to saving her loved ones. She can take care of herself, but she is not invincible, and in this book, she gets hurt a lot (physically and psychologically). I hope she will get some time to recover in the next book, or that her trauma will at least be acknowledged, and not just sweptunder the rug, as Mercy is sure to want to try. She already had commitment issues, and despite the fact that she made a choice when it comes to a love interest, the road ahead will be a bumpy one for sure, with the aftermath of what she went through.

Ben was the biggest surprise in this book. I disliked him from the first book, and even though he proved his loyalty to Adam and the pack, he never truly redeemed himself. He remained a nasty and mean British werewolf. In this book, in the span of one scene, one conversation, he made me hurt for him and want to hug him. It was a complete 180 °, but in a way that made sense. Still, it was so raw and true, it was impossible to dislike him anymore after that, and now I really, really hope to see more of him.

I like how Honey is slowly but surely becoming friends with Mercy. Despite her superficial appearance and the fact that she seemed to hate Mercy at first (and the dislike was reciprocated), they both learned to know each other, and I think they could become really good friends. Especially seeing as there are not a lot of women in Adam’s pack, I think it’s important for Mercy to have strong women around her, too. Honey also showed that she was more than a plastic, cute Barbie. She is empathetic and does not hesitate to get her hands dirty and risk her life for her pack. I thought that she would be the annoying superficial bimbo only there to hate Mercy at first, but I am pleasantly surprised to see that she has depth and feelings, and that she was able to overcome her dislike of Mercy, just as Mercy learned to know and appreciate Honey.

The romance is finally going somewhere. It is still slow going, and nothing happens between Mercy and her suitors besides a few kisses, but at the end of the book, she and everyone else know who she wants, and there is no potential love triangle anymore. It sets everything for the romance to finally progress and go beyond the dates and kisses stage that it’s been at since the end of the first book. I am not complaining, though, because I enjoyed the slower pace of the romance and the fact that Mercy tried to think about the potential consequences of her choices, instead of jumping into bed with Adam and/or Sam simply because they are hot and she has feelings for them.

I didn’t like how this book ended at all, but reading the first chapter of the next book made it all better. I was ready to give a lower rating to the book, only because ofthat last sentence. So, I highly recommend reading the beginning of the next book immediately after finishing this book, as it is the second half of the scene Iron Kissed ends with. I don’t understand why the author decided to just end the book there, in the middle of the scene. It hints at something that might happen between Mercy and Adam, but the timing is not good, and I think many readers who didn’t have immediate access to the fourth book would have been annoyed or even angry with the author for what she made us think would happen.

I'm addicted to those graphic audiobooks and so happy that more and more of my favorite series are adapted. I have read this book a long time ago but when the end was coming, I remembered vividly why I haven't forgotten. The narrators did such a fantastic job with this story, especially the guy who narrated Ben. I was crying with his speech to Adam in the end. Great adaptation of the book!

Basic Plot: Mercy's former boss is arrested for murder, so she seeks to clear his name.

Any book that has powerful enough writing that it actually brings tears to my eyes in an emotionally intense moment deserves the five-star rating. Patricia Briggs gets better and better with each novel, and Mercy Thompson continues to be a favorite heroine of mine.

Listening to this particular book in Graphic Audio was rough. Mercy goes through a lot in this book. Reading it was hard, listening was harder. The audio dealt with the whole situation incredibly well, but it was still damned difficult. Watch your trigger/content warnings for this one.

This series just gets better and better.

A longtime fan of the books having read them many, many times, I was a bit dubious about a narration, even though I love audiobooks, I am fussy when it comes to narrators.

The cast for this dramatised adaption is perfect. Its brought this series to life on a whole new way, adding extra dimensions of fear, terror, and emotion to an already emotional rollercoaster of a series.

I'm looking forward to the next book, and can't wait for them to finish the adaptations for all the books in the series..

Action packed, full of nail biting nerve wracking excitement and tension. This book gave more info into the Fae and how much Mercy knows about them. As usual our fearless heroine led the charge to prove Z innocent from killing a human and she made a ton of enemies! Also, it’s down to the wire and time for her to pick a mate! Will it be her handsome alpha wolf neighbor Adam or childhood friend and dominant wolf, Sam?

When Zee gets framed for murder, Mercy’s not about to sit back and let the fae throw him under the bus. The mystery’s sharp, the danger’s real, and the Adam vs. Sam tension? Delicious.

And let’s talk about Ben—once the resident jerk, now showing he might actually have a heart. Who knew?

The GraphicAudio production is the cherry on top—full cast, sound effects, the whole cinematic package. Basically, it slapped.

Taking off a star for no trigger warning for rape. It isn’t super descriptive on page but descriptive enough. So read with caution if rape is a trigger for you.

Great story with lots of action. My only gripe with this one is that I could not hear/understand what the ghosts were saying. It was like the background noise was too loud.

Oooh, I am liking this series! Mercy is up to her ears in fae and a murder investigation. Those fae are pretty scary. But Mercy is up to the challenge because her friend is in trouble and by now I know Mercy will not stand for the innocent being put in harms way. Then Mercy finally comes to grips with her heart and mind about her love interests. Again, great characters, nice plot twists, enough action and a nod to Ms. Briggs’ handling of sexual abuse.

Graphic Audio's presentation: Outstanding.
