Mystic Caravan is hitting San Francisco. Unfortunately, a magical force in the city is hitting back. On their first night in town, they discover somebody has unleashed skeletons on the city…and there’s an army of them. The good news is that as far as foes go, they’re not very impressive. Poet Parker’s team can take them out with relative ease. The bad news is they’re not stopping…and they’re getting bolder each and every night. San Francisco’s history leads to a lot of questions. Are the skeletons coming from the cemeteries that were closed? Seems only a fraction of the bodies were moved when the city shut down for burials more than a century before. Who is raising them, though? Between Golden Gate Park, Fisherman’s Wharf, and Alcatraz, Mystic Caravan has a lot of dark corners to search through. A nosy police officer—one who has his own paranormal task force at the ready—is another concern. Not all evil is created equal. Sometimes what looks like evil isn’t evil at all. Still, the city needs to be saved. Are Poet and her motley crew of magical misfits up to the task? You’re about to find out. It’s going to be a bumpy—and bony—ride.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
This series has been a fun travelogue , but my favourite bits are the mini stories of Poet's readings. Between the people who don't want to face the consequences of their actions to the people given hope about their future, the human tapestry is more fascinating than vampires, Lanka and demons. I'm also looking forward to Jackson coming into his own, although he needs to be in Frisco if hi true love is going to find him, not somewhere (Michigan?) playing with the FBI.
The countdown is on for the move to Moonstone Bay, and San Francisco is one of the last stops on their journey. This adventure was fun, and had a few twists that I didn't see coming. Poet is still coming to terms with her Loa magic, and the Baron is still trying to get her to understand that she her magic is so much more than she thinks, and she needs to kick the tyres and take it for a spin to see what she can do... so to speak.
Really enjoyed the new characters we encountered, and like I said, I enjoyed the mystery but the ending did let me down a bit. Not due to what happened, but the fact that it wasn't an on page resolution and we just learn about it as a brief recap hours later. Anyway, can't wait to see what happens next, and I will definitely be reading the next book when it comes out.
Every so often, an author writes a book or series of books that are so good that the characters creep into your heart and feel like old friends. Each time a new book comes out, it feels like you have come together and are having a catch-up. That's what Ms Lee's books are for me. I love these books and her other series, too. I would recommend this series and her others to anyone.
I love it! I can't wait till they move to moonstone Bay! Will Amanda m Lee combine the 2 series or keep them separate and it'll be like wicked witches of the Midwest that almost always crosses with 2 broomsticks and spells angels? She also crosses the reapers and Luna now too, which I absolutely love!! Either way it will be amazing!!
This newest book in the collection of interlocking urban fantasy/paranormal is fantastic. Poet and the circus take on a trip through San Francisco that will bring a feeling of home to anyone who has ever truly experienced the city. I love the use of Hispanic lore, culture and beliefs to show the rich culture of the Mission District. It’s one of my favorite parts of San Francisco. The mystic and tragedy of Alcatraz is well researched and written. I am impressed by everything in this story. It is the first book in a long time where I wasn’t wanting to change storylines, character behavior or was just annoyed in general. This is a well written story with excellent editing and proofreading.
I enjoyed the fact that for once there was a bad guy who was not really bad. Poet is also really coming into new powers and Baron helped move her another step forward in her journey. I think one of my favorite parts of this series is when Poet does the fortune telling she always has at least one person asking for something really morally grey and a dumb request or two. At least one "good deed" to balance it all. There is some action here with the skeleton fights as the team is involved. The countdown to Moonstone Bay has definitely begun. Three more stops have been discussed so we'll see if that means 3 more books before the move.
Love Poet and her adopted family at Mystic Caravans. She and Luke are such cut ups with Cole and Kade to balance them.
Poet and the circus fam are in San Francisco where they are battling skeletons and a hidden master everywhere, but no idea why. Poet eventually breaks the clues down with her boy besties and Ravens help and there are many surprises - eve for this group of supernaturals.
Frighteningly fun with excellent writing and an absolutely worthwhile read
Another great mystic caravan circus mystery in San Francisco
I love all her series that I have read and read them all but 1 . this was fun the circus is always good series interesting places . although I love the crossovers need another one with aunt Tilly and Neill the Winchester minus Landon he gets on my nerves lol and grimes and winters family are .my favorite. Then circus stormy and Evan with Tilly . or her and I going blank on leader of group in bar . so many great characters in all the books .
I love this series and group of characters. I really enjoyed some of the Alcatraz and other history facts in this book as they looked for clues too. I like all the character development and growth we are seeing as they prepare to move to the island, and now a hint where they might live. Beware of Sand Worms! Exciting times ahead.
I love this series, there is not one character that I dislike, even Luke!!! Mystic Caravan is never boring and I like that we are introduced to different paranormal with different abilities. I appreciate that Amanda Lee always find a way to redemption and that just as some are evil just as many are worth saving.
You had me when I read you were in San Francisco! Been there many times. Have been to Alcatraz also. Have been mesmerized by the island since I viewed it from the Golden Gate bridge when it was still a working prison. This book was quite good and had a different Story ! Good job. Thank you !
The cast of characters throughout the years have truly become like family. You root for the outcomes, and are saddened by their trails. Cheers to all around fun outcomes! Once you start on of Amanda Lee's books they're tough to put down. Kudos to your bright imaginative brain.
This was another good story. I think this story made think more about how humans can be so cruel. And that perhaps if we could show more kindness, acceptance and compassion, perhaps we would all be a little better off! After you finish this, you'll understand my comment! Highly recommend these stories!
As always, I enjoyed the book. Even though the main character irritates me a lot of the time, she is the heroine and has many good qualities. I enjoy the light humor and I like finding out about other magical mythical beings always being introduced in Amanda's books.
Not only a gentler story, but so many of the annoying quirks of language have disappeared. Only one use of whining, one use of neck rolling, and no puffing out of chests. Way to go! Catalina was ultimately a sympathetic character, acting out of love. Such a change from the usual vengeful power-hungry monsters. Variety of plot is a sign of growth.
I’ve been reading these stories for quite a while. The magic, the monsters, the travel, the situations all combine to make good stories. This book, I think, is the best so far.
Freaky Festivals (Mystic Caravan Mysteries Book 20) by Amanda M. Lee
I loved this book. This whole series has been amazing! The world building and characters phenomenal. I can hardly wait for the next book in the series!
Love the direction the series is going. I enjoy the relationships and story telling. The different cultural creatures are so interesting. Definitely a great addition to the series. Series is better if read in order.
The story was excellent, with great characters and a fun storyline. The author has written such great series with many crossing over to make for even more fun reading.
Poet does it again. The circus comes to town and discovers skeletons are running amuck. Poets and her male harem must figure out what's happening and solve the problem. As this series winds down I hope for a few more books to tie up loose ends.
This is my favorite series by this author and this book doesn’t disappoint. Unique story with all my favorite characters. For once, Baron was truly helpful. Will be interesting to see if we run into Jackson in the future.
I always enjoy it when Byron shows up. The mind The main characters are always fun. I like to snark between Poet and Luke. And I like that it's winding down for them to get to Moonstone Bay.
I love Ms. Lee's stories! Out of all the different books I read she is my favorite author. She has a fun sense of humor that she writes interesting mysteries around. You won't be sorry to buy any of her books.
I really like the direction this series is moving. This book was another great adventure. I am curious about Jackson and where he’s going to end up. Hopefully we will get to see him develop. Luke kept the whining down to a minimum although still annoying.
I have read all of the Mystic Caravan books so far. I really enjoy Amanda Lee's writing and the legends and stories that are often behind the "evil" character.
The story lines are amazing. I don't know how Ms. Lee does it, her imagination and knowledge of paranormal identities is formable. I actually look up how to pronounce words and their definitions. Can't wait for the next book. Thanks!
Another great adventure with Poet and the Mystic Caravan crew. Love the characters in this series. They are unique. When you add in their particular magic abilities you have an entertaining and memorable experience.
This book and the series to date have been entertaining. This one was very challenging for our favorite characters, as magic blazing isn't the answer and a mother's love knows no end.
I love these books. Thank you for the gift you give by writing them. They are magical, funny, uplifting and addictive. I love that the female lead is the hero instead of having to be the one rescued. Can't wait for the next one.
