Tell Me Twice

Rate this book
“A benefit of knowing your adversary since you both had undeveloped prefrontal cortexes is that you possess crucial information on him. Like how easy he is to torture.”

Fin Santos likes his ecosystem orderly and free of interference. As the executive director of Mi Tesoro, his beloved conservation trust nestled in the lush hills of western Puerto Rico, his focus has been laser-sharp. But now, the board wants to win over the community before greenlighting his next project. When his infuriatingly competent former academic rival shows up to run the marketing campaign he vehemently opposed, Fin is in for more than some ecological disruption.

A freelance marketing whiz and free spirit, Mari Morales has always thrived in a no-strings environment. And yet, the moment she arrives at the sun-drenched hacienda overlooking a breathtaking riverscape, something shifts. The vibrant community of Mi Tesoro, and even the stubborn, undeniably attractive director with his passionate dedication, begin to weave a heady spell she hadn’t anticipated.

Fin and Mari’s professional clashes are immediate and intense, a fiery echo of their fiercely competitive days back in debate club. And yet, amidst the marketing videos and community events hosted under the starlit Puerto Rican sky, their undeniable spark burns bright. One that proves that, once they get out of their own way, worthy foes can turn into reluctant allies, and even tropical lovebirds.

“Tell Me Twice” is a kisses-only romcom with no swearing and all the Anne and Gilbert vibes. It’s a stand-alone novel, second in the Los Morales series.

Nuria Muñoz picked up Pride and Prejudice in the ninth grade and thought she had discovered little-known author Jane Austen. At the time there was no one in her small-town Puerto Rico sphere with whom to gush about her love of love stories (especially those with a groveling grump).

Fast forward to an English degree, marriage to her childhood-bully-turned-best-friend, and living her homeschool-mom best life with four incandescently amazing children in Florida, Nuria found her people in the Bookstagram community. She now writes her own Kissing Only romances with all the swoon and wit.

Another lovely, warm-hearted, sun-drenched sweet romance from Nuria Munoz, with a contemporary Puerto Rican setting that feels like a real-life holiday, and all the "spice" is in the mouth-watering traditional food.

This is a grumpy-sunshine romance with an enemies-to-lovers trajectory and more than a pinch of Anne-and-Gilbert childhood-schoolmates rivalry with the two likeable main characters.

This is unabashedly a low-stakes, fluffy comfort-read, but there is something about Nuria's sense of place that speaks to me deeply.

Maybe it's an island thing. Perhaps for that reason, the conservation/nature-study parts of the plot were very relatable for me, and added a welcome element which I sometimes miss in sweet romance novels. Also, a quick nod to the high standard of professionalism in editing and aesthetic presentation of her books--this was a delight in ebook, and I'm sure is also in paperback. Look for it on KU or elsewhere!

When in tell I get happy with a book not only set in Puerto Rico, but one that mentions places and foods, and all the things that will make any Boricua emotional who is not PR, are my absolute fave. And this author those this and more. Mari and Fin, I loved you both so much. The interactions between these 2, the story behind it all, how it all workout it was chef kiss♡ The side characters for this story always make it better, why? Because they complement the main characters so well and make them better ot are there to show them what they are missing. Family is all and this book shows that and more. I loved it all, go check them out. 100% recommended ♡

Get Nuria on the tourism board for Puerto Rico already!

Many people have mentioned the food descriptions, which were excellent, but the wildlife descriptions were what really sold me on this story. I really loved all of the bird imagery throughout the book.

Rivals to more can be a tricky trope for me to like, especially if the rivalry has no real basis, but who didn't have a school rival at some point? I appreciated that Mari didn't go full-on Anne Shirley in her grudge against Fin.

The inclusion of Irish mythology with an island twist was a nice touch.

I could have used a bit more communication between Fin and Mari at times, especially as the ice between them began to thaw, but that's a minor quibble in a book I enjoyed immensely.

Read this if you want an island escape. Just make sure you eat first, because you will be hungry after reading so many descriptions of such delicious sounding food!

Thank you, Nuria, for letting me read this ahead of time.

4.5 stars ARC REVIEW this was thefirst time l've finished a book in 24 hours in a long time. Tell Me Twice is a sweet enemies (rivals) to more that gives Anne and Gilbert vibes in the best way. I loved the jungle setting in beautiful Puerto Rico, Mari's sassy abuela, and the banter both while they were enemies and after.
Fin is swoony and Mari is sunshine. And their first kiss will make you melt.
This was a great read while I'm wrapping up summer rom coms.

A huge thank you to author Nuria Munoz for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

In this standalone novel, we get to know Mari Morales better. She has worked for years a freelance marketing expert, never tied down to a single place or job. But now she has landed a job promoting Mi Tesoro, a conservation trust in the hills of Puerto Rico. And little does she know before her arrival that the executive director of Mi Tesoro is none other than Fin Santos, her old rival from debate club. While both are stubborn and talented, it increasingly becomes clear that maybe their animosity is really more attraction.

This is the second book by Nuria Munoz I have read, and it was fun to get another of the Morales' siblings stories. Munoz excels at deeply immersive novels. She transports me to Puerto Rico yet again in this book but a very different scene than in Shall I Stay. I loved the lush wilderness and natural setting of Mi Tesoro that the author says is based on one of her favorite places in Puerto Rico, "Hacienda La Esperanza, which part of the Para La Naturaleza nature nonprofit" (275). I especially loved that Fin's riverbank cabin is based on a country house that the author's grandparents "owned in the Utuado mountains of central Puerto Rico" (275). The author is also a master at food descriptions! So many vivid descriptions of the Puerto Rican meals enjoyed by these characters: "the vibrant aromatics, the saltiness from the ham, the nuttiness of the pigeon peas, the earthiness from being steamed under plantain leaves - it all makes my taste buds sing and rejoice" (163).

This was such a sweet love story. I can never resist an enemies-to-lovers trope, and I especially enjoyed that the two in this book have a misplaced animosity that goes back to their youth! This depth to their back story made their almost immediate spark feel believable and authentic. I also like that both characters fleshed out back stories. Both of them have an absent parent for different reasons and this hurt has made them cautious. Fin was such an amazing leading man! He is caring and kind but also clearly attractive and appealing, as the way he constantly keeps accidently going viral thanks to Mi Tesoro social media.

I did wish the pair had talked more! Late in the novel, much is made about how bad Fin is at texting. These two go days to weeks without communicating, even after they are on the same page about their interest in each other. This felt off to me and I would have liked to have seen the two getting to know each other more. And the speed of their relationship as evidenced in the epilogue surprised me. It was fun getting to see an update on Rico and Lena from book one in the epilogue!

Another masterpiece by the talented Nuria. I love the depth of her stories, and this one is no different.
Mari is so fun, so bouncy, and so lovable. I adore how strong of a character she is, and how it’s portrayed that her confidence is not from lack of fears but rather how she faces them with such bold determination.
Finlay. What a fun name to tease ;). Mari has his wrapped around his finger and the poor guy has no choice but to accept his fate. The tire scene? Hottest moment of the book and I’m set in my opinion.
The way the two fight over everything is just peak. Is it petty? A little. Does it make for fantastic reading? Yes ma’am. Are those moments where the fighting slowly dissipates into challenges the entire climax of the book? Definitely.
Oh and before I forgot, how is the author so good at writing food? Don’t read it while hungry, you’ll be wishing you could share a seat for the amazing meals (cooked over fire in the traditional way, I might add)
I highly recommend this book to those who love rainforest vibes, conservation efforts, and a cute romance with all the pinning and feels while keeping everything kissing only.

Nuria Muñoz does not disappoint! I loved the rivals to lovers between Mari and Fin! But my favorite character had to be Luisito! He was such a fun and lovable character. I loved that he gave nicknames (reinita 🥹🫶) and his passion for birds. I loved though how our main characters both had their struggles and the need for wanting to belong. Their struggle of loneliness and then finding it in each other. A beautifully crafted story that I loved! Thank you for the ARC Nuria Muñoz!

Okay, guys, I loved Shall I Stay so much. And I can’t believe I’m going to say this but I loved this one even more. Something about Mari and Fin just SPOKE to me. I love them so much. And their banter? Don’t even get me started.

This is rivals to lovers done to sheer perfection. Seriously. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I was smiling. Mari comes with something to prove. And Fin, well, he doesn’t think he needs to prove anything. Sparks people, sparks everywhere! This is just one of those books that is going to stay with me.

I love how the feeling of being alone or abandoned is shown and the realization that maybe you never were. But also that each one made the other feel wanted. I’m not doing it justice. Just trust me and read this if you want a feel good story!

Sweet little Luisito has me crying over here. The sweet boy. He was a definite favorite addition to this book!

CW: kisses only, loss of parent/s in past.

Thank you to the author for allowing me to read this. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Nuria took me on another fun trek through Puerto Rico! Really enjoyed this one! Better review to come.

So, it took me awhile, but here is the extended version of my review.

This is the second book in the Los Morales series. It is a delightful, kisses-only contemporary romance by the incomparable Nuria Munoz. It's a standalone story and could definitely be read without having read the first book in the series. But do yourself a favor and read both!

This author has a way with words that. I love reading her descriptions, and I am usually more of a dialogue lover. This book has both! The tension and banter were top notch. This reader also could feel the love for Puerto Rico that the author has, and it is contagious.

I was given the opportunity to read an advanced digital copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

••I give 5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“A benefit of knowing your adversary since you both had undeveloped prefrontal cortexes is that you possess crucial information on him. Like how easy he is to torture.”

-“Tell Me Twice” is a delightful romcom weaved with both humor and heart. It is filled with no swearing and all the Anne and Gilbert vibes, and is a stand-alone novel, second in the fantastic Los Morales series. I thoroughly enjoyed the undeniable sparks that fly off the pages and any moment when dear characters are together. This is absolutely a grumpy-sunshine romance with an enemies-to-lovers vibe done well. I loved watching dear characters fight through their own struggles, going from a place of loneliness, to a place of such dear belonging had my heart. Seeing characters rise above and work together towards something more fulfilling and beautiful was so satisfying. With such beautiful writing, I loved being immersed completely within such a warm and sweet story that wanted to protect the lands, be part the vibrant culture, and take in all the delicious foods. It had my holding with hope that dear characters would feel such connection and inclusion, on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. Beautiful themes of protection, belonging, growth, trust, and love stand out. This my friends, is a beautiful story worth the dear read!❤️📚

“There’s so much we can’t control, but you can grasp what you love, hold it tight, treasure it for as long as you can. You won’t ever regret that.”

•Content: overcoming parent-loss grief and brief mention of parental abandonment, no language, no violence, kisses only.

“You belong, Mari. And so does Fin. You both belong. Here. And together.”

This is my first book by Nuria Munoz, and her storytelling is like no other. Nuria manages to weave a witty yet poetic love story, set against the gorgeous backdrop of Puerto Rico, rich in history and culture.

Mari is such a go-getter, with a strong personality. She absolutely does not allow anyone to stand in her way, especially Fin, the director of Mi Tesoro, who was grumpy and unwelcoming toward her at first. As former academic rivals, it was easy for Fin and Mari to fall back into their old pranking ways, and annoying each other.

Right off the bat, I loved the banter between Fin and Mari. They clearly enjoyed taunting and pushing each other’s buttons. But what stood out even more was their growth as individuals and how they came to treat each other with care and respect. Slowly, they came to see the truth of each other’s character, and it made it easy to root for them.

However, there was one thing that pulled me out of the story, the miscommunication trope, particularly Fin's inability to effectively communicate his feelings. I felt frustrated for both Mari and Fin, I really needed him to open up. Thankfully, there wasn’t a major fallout, and the speech Fin eventually gave was beautiful and led to a very satisfying ending.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful scenery, the wholesome moments with the community and the sweet connection between Fin and Mari. It was such a sweet and feel-good read.

Thank you to author Nuria Muñoz for an ARC copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

“I mean, you did protest too much, mija. But I thought you’d keep denying it past the summer. Does this mean you’re less stubborn now? This is all good news.” ~ our favorite Abuela

I’ve never been to Puerto Rico, but after reading both of the Los Morales books I feel like an expert! The sights, the sounds, the flora and fauna, the mouth watering fare. Nuria really knows how to immerse the reader in this vibrant and lush tropical island.

I loved being back with the Morales family and getting a more in-depth understanding of Mari, her past, and her rivalry with Fin. This teenage enemies-to-more was filled with teasing, tension, and tantalizing slow burn. It was so much fun watching Mari press Fin’s buttons and seeing Fin begin to see Mari in a new light.

But I can’t forget about the supporting characters! Amelia, Patty, Luisito! That little boy was so inquisitive and perceptive. I just adore him!

Such a delightful story!

Thank you, Nuria for the advanced copy, all opinions are my own.

This sweet romance brings all the sparks with none of the spice. 🔥

Expect:
❤️ Anne & Gilbert vibes
❤️ Rivals to more
❤️ Forced proximity
❤️ Pranks
❤️ Coworkers
❤️ Puerto Rican culture
❤️ Symbolism

💋 Kisses only (no spice, no innuendo)
🚫 no profanity
🚫 no violence

Fin is broody, deeply feeling, devoted, and quiet MMC.
❤️ Mari is a fiery, passionate, and charismatic FMC who loves to push Fin’s buttons. 💃🏻

Working together towards a common cause makes them face truths that have long been buried under a fierce rivalry. Simmering emotions and chemistry come to the surface, complicating their plans. Both Mari & Fin bring attachment issues from loss as well as a sense of never having fully belonged anywhere. Their journey of love and healing created a passionate story that was impossible to put down.

The vibrant descriptions of the delicious food, the verdant landscape, the enchanting music, and the warm culture made me want to visit Puerto Rico.

3.5 STARS - A sweet second book in the Los Morales series.

This was another fun Puerto Rican adventure with a romance that was sweet! If you love Hallmark movies and are looking for something that is fun and provides a little cozy adventure too - this is a perfect series to pick up.

Things have always been fiery between former academic rivals (think Anne and Gilbert vibes) Fin, who is now the executive director of a conservation trust, and Mari - the woman who is brought in to lead a marketing campaign to help bring more community support to the trust. The sparks and tempers fly between them and boy, was it fun to watch. :)

And as was true in the first book in this series (Shall I Stay?) Nuria Munoz crafts such a beautiful setting - she makes Puerto Rico come alive and it's absolutely beautiful!

Great writing and a heartfelt, swoony and cozy adventure all made for a really sweet read! I'll be looking forward to seeing how this series ends!

The tension between Mariana and Finlay was spectacular in this story. I love a true enemies/rivals to more vibe, and this did it for me. In addition to that, their love story is a slow burn, which made all the tension and banter and chemistry even better. Both Mari and Fin have their own past trauma they are working on, which added depth to their characters. The setting of the story, Mi Tesoro, was so wonderfully described that I felt like I was right there. This was my first read by Nuria, and I am definitely planning to read her other books when I get a chance!

Genre: Closer Door Romance

I love this book! From the romance to the culture I love it!

It’s so amazing being able to read a book about my culture and being able to relate to much to the characters, especially Fin. I love how well Nuria describes our beautiful island and the culture within it 🥰

The romance was well done! Former academic rivals who are forced to work together and slowly unravel what actually fueled their rivalry back then 😘 I loved finding out the meaning of the title, Tell Me Twice and can’t think of a better ending 🥰

And for the record, it’s empanadas 😉

This books is stunning. Like, book hangover for a couple of hours stunning! With an Anne-and-Gilbert style academic rivalry, some forced workplace proximity, and an absolutely gorgeous setting, this book is one that’ll stick with you for awhile.

I have to start out with just how much I love Nuria as a writer. Her books read so flawlessly, with plenty of endearing self-deprecating humor, gorgeous descriptions of the scenery (without being wordy), and flirty batter and dialogue. Shes a word wizard. Like, I appreciate Nuria as an author of books, but I also appreciate her as an author of sentences. She writes really, really good sentences! (And yes, I realize that using a horribly written sentence to describe her beautifully written ones is mildly ironic).

Other highlights:
- Luisito: a precocious and wildly intelligent boy who wanders the wilderness and cheekily matchmakes MMC and FMC
- Abuela: I feel like I know her with how well written she is. When can I come over for dinner abuela?!
- Fin: Half Puerto Rican, half Irish?! He cooks?! He’s brooding and smart and secretly a teddy bear but may still growl at you if you try to mess with who and what he loves?! Yup, I’m in.
- Mari: sunshine and abandonment issues and restless energy and loved by everyone… but doesn’t quite fit in anywhere. I loved her so much! Especially her sad sandwiches!
- Puerto Rico: just like the first book, this one delivered on beautiful Puerto Rico charm, delicious descriptions of local dishes, and tidbits about the local ecosystem (“endemic” “honorary native species”)
- Stand alone: although this is the second, they can be picked up in any order. We get a peek into Rico and Lena’s relationship at the end!

I really wish I could clone myself so I could write multiple reviews. But hopefully I’ve convinced you that this is one you’ll want to read!

I give this 4 1/2 Stars!

I want to start by saying I received an ARC of this book. This is a clean rivals to more romance book and part of Los Morales series. The main characters are Fin and Mari. Fin is an executive director of a conservation trust and Mari is a freelance marketing whiz. Fin and Mari now have to work together on a project of Fin’s before they can get it approved. Unfortunately, they were rivals in school. Will they be able to get the job done or will their rivalry be too much? Will they move past their rivalry? Will Fin’s project get a green light? Both have lost a parent in some way which broke my heart for them. Will they open their hearts to each other? Fin and Mari were both amazing characters that I loved from the beginning. I loved watching them together and all they get accomplished. Seeing them fall in love was awesome. They of course bickered over things since that was what they did when they were younger on the debate team. Normally I’m not crazy about a lot of bickering in books but that is what made this book good. I loved seeing all of the side characters and how amazing they are. I was so excited to read this book as I ARC read the first one and enjoyed it. I was also excited that this had the Anne and Gilbert vibes as I have read a lot of books with them this year so it’s amazing to see how different authors write books with those vibes. Overall, this was a great book and I can’t wait to read the next one.

I was so happy to jump into Mari’s book with the Morales siblings. All of the details and the visualization from her story makes it so much more enriching to read.
I absolutely loved Fin and Mari’s story. The Hacienda, the nature and more Puerto Rico really made me want to jump on a plane! All of the side characters were a true delight. This enemies to more was a beautiful story of healing, determination, truth and love for many things. There was also the fun, witty side to her characters. Luisito might be the best kid character ever, he was years beyond his age.
As with all of her books, I found my own truths and connections while reading. Nuria has an incredible way at pulling you into the story and grabbing your emotions deeply with reflection.

Things I loved:
Bananas
Reinita
The window
Abuela
Amelia & Javi
The food
Upping each other
The hammock
Luisito
Fair Warrior Hawk
Beloved Sea Star
Power Red

This had such a great Anne and Gilbert Vibe

Nuria has such a unique voice in clean romance and I love visiting Puerto Rico with her! This is a well-crafted story with tons of heart. I especially loved the little flashbacks sprinkled in of Fin and Mari's time together in high school - perfectly done! The side characters are awesome and vivid and of course Puerto Rico shines. Highly recommended! I loved book one but I liked this one even better!

I enjoyed both books! Wholesone characters who feel real and have depth. I also found the setting very interesting - I do want to visit Puerto Rico now and taste ALL the food I was reading about. The Spanish words were sprinkled in the dialogue in such a natural way that it did not hinder understanding and made me feel somehow included in the island vibe. I thought I would like book 1 more since there was a mystery to solve, but book 2 was just as engaging and I enjoyed learning about the fauna and flora…and to be honest, there were a few low-key mysteries unveiled towards the end. Love a good HEA that makes sense and having it being part of a bigger family/community is always a bonus. It is not super realistic I guess, considering how everyone is happy in the end, but this is exactly the kind of books I prefer! Life is tough enough in its own, I don’t need to read about it. In this book there was enough emotion and laughter for me, mixed in with some adventure and mystery. The lack of angst and serious drama made it a joy to read. I will be looking out for more books by this author.

When is it *not* a good time to reader-travel to a tropical island?

Never.

When is a grump *not* grumbling along as he falls for his chaotic childhood rival?

Never.

When do swoons *not* abound as they both find the meaning of belonging in each other?

Never.

Would this author ever waste a fabulous cave setting? Would she hold back on the banter and long-held tension? Would she *not* let her Puerto Rican Viking hero have his Mr.Darcy-white-shirt moment?

Never. Ever.

Will this author insist on giving it all with the Anne and Gilbert vibes on a jungle hillside? Is she intent on activating readers’ salivary glands with all the delicious Puerto Rican fare? On making her books the cheapest tropical vacation you’ll have? Does she reveal herself to be a symbolism nerd and em-dash maximalist?

Always.

You must try this brand of contemporary-for-the-historical-reader. Or just if you love a romcom with depth and a dash of something unique.

Content notes: Kissing only. Mild themes of parent-loss grief and childhood abandonment.

Thank you to the author for my gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

I don't think I have read a book set in Puerto Rico before, but I really loved it. The author provided great descriptions of the landscape, atmosphere, food, and etc. The enemies to lovers trope was written so well. The author said in the blurb that this was like Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe and I 100% agree. Everything about this book was just a delight to read. I highly recommend it!
