Conrad Mayday has always fought the rumors that his beautiful and successful wife, Micker, has been unfaithful. To make matters worse, it's his longtime nemesis, Bran Hall, suspected of being his wife's lover. But Conrad is set on brushing the rumors aside when he welcomes his newborn daughter, Belle, into the fold. Then one night, Micker vanishes at sea in the mysterious Farallon Islands, an uninhabited place teeming with great white sharks just miles from San Francisco. The police rule her death a shark attack, but Conrad believes it's something more - and his quest to find the truth will soon put him in a world of danger.
A very gripping thriller with deeply interesting characters. It generally keeps a consistent, fast pace that makes it difficult to lose interest, but the book as a whole is brought down by a middle segment that feels somewhat detached from the overall narrative. However, it is mostly an excellent book that I would highly recommend.
One of the best books I've read, and really scary. This is a thoughtful book, and a quick read, and as soon as I was done, I read it again. I highly recommend!
This was an amazing tale with lots of twists and turns I never saw coming. While there was some minor gore (shark kills and murders) the main plot of the story was about family. Differences in upbringing, you’d think after Conrad’s horror of a past, he’d be the psycho.. but really the Hall family was breeding them like crazy. And it shows that nurture triumphs nature.. I think especially between Conrad and Belle. I was even surprised about Conrad’s wife whose name is escaping me..right now.. and how she really had feelings even though she tried so hard to put on a mask and be Power hungry like B Hall. The parentage still has me wondering and also why no one does anything about the shark attacks? It was not specified who was dumping ppl in the Red Triangle in shark cages.. or a few other things that I’m left to wonder about.. Belle’s Future.. Katherine.. the rest of the Hall family... and their offspring? Great Plot and I enjoyed reading!
Fun thriller. Game show stuck out as kind of incongruous with the rest of the plot. Rest of the story was good, didn't have any slow points, nice twists. Ending could use more, I'd like a snapshot of 2 years later or something.
