For Jim Grant, a small-town stick up means big-time action
Before he ever even heard of Jamaica Plain, Jim Grant was a cop in Yorkshire who'd do anything to bring down the bad guys. But when the Discipline and Complaint inspector feels he's gone too far, Grant is put on suspension and goes to his favorite all-night diner to flirt with his favorite waitress . . . and that's when all hell breaks loose.
SNAKE PASS – COLIN CAMPBELL 4 stars. The first book I’ve read by this author, but it won’t be the last!
Jim Grant is a cop who works in Yorkshire. He doesn't have to look for trouble, it finds him well enough on its own. In this case, he breaks into a house where Sharon Davis is being brutally assaulted. His young assistant, reports him to his superiors and complains that Grant handled the situation with excess force. Thanks to this Grant is suspended. Grant decides to visit a friend who will listen and give advice, her name is Wendy Rivers of the Woodside Truck Stop and diner.
As he’s leaving the Truck Stop, he notices the lights go out and because it’s a 24 hour diner, it’s strange, so he decides he’d better find out why. He discovers that Wendy has been assaulted by a Ukrainian thug who tries to get her to tell him where the safe is. Grant calls the police. However, he’s not happy to leave it with the force to sort out, so takes matters in his own hands and from here all hell breaks loose. From here on, the pace does not let up.
I don't want to give any spoilers as the story is really good. I only have one slight niggle - I felt that the story was a little too far-fetched hence the 4 stars.
The chapters are just the right length for me. This is the 4th outing for Jim Grant, so I have come late to the Resurrection Man books, but I enjoyed it.
The author is a former police officer, which shows in the writing.
If you are a crime fan, this is a fantastic read.

2.5 American style. Lots of guns. Too many characters. Convoluted plot. Gratuitous violence thinly veiled racism. Not planning to read any more by GUIs author.
