Distilled Spirits by Kate Danley is the third book in the O’Hare House Mysteries series and is a paranormal mystery and clean romance.
I think perhaps this has been the strongest book in the series yet, but there is still a lot left to be desired.
This ‘series’ is really just one book, published in 4 installments. Ugh, it really bothers me though when authors publish a story across several books that is really only one book. If I hadn’t gotten these first three books for free, I wouldn’t have read this far. I will not be buying the final ‘book’ in the series to see how it concludes.
This one was better than the second one. While the series isn't perfect, this feels back on track and more interesting than Clara and Wesley just going from one place to the next, having a quick conversation with people they meet there.
This is the 3rd novel in a four book set. I think the story is a fun read. The various novels concern a recently widowed woman and her forays into the world of the super natural. She is able to see ghosts as well as speak with them.
The book is not a heavy read, rather an enjoyable way to pass an icy rain afternoon.
The O' Hare House Mysteries is a quartet of stories that is really one long story. It's a charming mix of Regency murder mystery, Egyptian curses, demons, and ghosts. In Volume I, a new widow becomes involved with a medium and uncovers a series of other-worldly murders. In Volume II, just having vanquished the foe, she discovers that the curse is still a danger. In Volume III, she has finally rid the world of the curse, only to find a more earthly danger in a powerful & wealthy family. In Volume IV, the new love of her life has been falsely accused of murder. To save him, she must battle a powerful group bent on otherworldly domination.
Clara and Wesley get mired deeper and deeper into the mystery surrounding several deaths and a malevolent Egyptian artifact. Every time they think that they are making headway they just find themselves in deeper with more questions.
I enjoyed this installment of the series more than the last... but I still can't help but think that these books should all have been combined into one story.
I am quite intrigued to read the final book and see how everything wraps up though.
