Although there are only 3 full stories in this anthology, I can honestly say that I have enjoyed every part and full story within this collection. Each part or full story involves an interesting plot and characters that have emotion and depth. My favourite would have to be Hooked on the Game by C.M. Owens because the characters dragged me in and wouldn't let go until the end. I loved that one. I recommend this anthology if you want a taster of the style of the various authors or if you want to read the 3 full stories that are here. There is everything here from con men to military so something for everyone.
Ok I'm done part of it was good n other parts I didn't like for most if the stories were from the woman's side the others were just ok but still a good read thx
This book had a lot of stories but the writing wasn't very good. I will not be purchasing the full books of any because none of them made me want to finish the stories.
This book's only saving grace was the stalker aspect it eventually comes to. Whenever Ian came into the picture, the book became interesting. Other than that, it was boring and it dragged, plus Karina ...OMG Karina, what in the world was wrong with her? She was an adult pining away for a man who fucked her, during a night of drinking by the way, and then leaves her! For ten years! Then she attends his seminar and acts like a giddy school girl all over again! Are you serious! I wanted to slap her, there was nothing romantic about their one night stand. He was drunk, she took advantage of that and he acted like a man the next day and left, but in her mind she romanticized their entire encounter and years later she does the same thing. Even uproots her life, moves to the same city as him, let's be honest, the whole starting a business thing was just the excuse she needed to move, if that didn't come up, who knows what else she would have done to get closer to Brian. She's pathetic and a bit stalker-ish herself...maybe her and Ian should get together!
ALYSSA'S REDEMPTION by Karly Morgan: 1 Star
Aside from the fact that Alyssa is still half in love with a man that not only cheated on her with a friend, but also beat her so bad that she miscarried and then lied about it so well that close friends and even her own family didn't believe her, she also continually tries to stop this same man from getting his ass beat, which he truly deserves, but on top of all that, this crazy ass book ends on one of the most ridiculous CLIFFHANGERS ever! 'Enough said!
MY DESPICABLE EX by Sierra Rose: 1.5 Stars
Eh...another ridiculous book with yet another stupid cliffhanger. I hate cliffhangers, but I can deal with them if they are good and juicy but so far this book and the one before in this anthology sucked ass!
As far as the story goes, its okay. I totally understand why Ashly is so angry and hurt. Getting dumped minutes before a lavish wedding will certainly make any woman bitter, the thing is that she's had five years to get over it and she hasn't. She's still single, measuring guys to the one that dumped her, burying her life in work...not moving on. Meanwhile I think Jake is full of nothing but shit. How the night before your wedding everything is honky dory and then you pull a coward move like that! That's disgusting! Now the only reason he's back and up Ashly's ass is because he stands to inherit millions of dollars, anyone in their right mind would kiss ass for all that money. Up until he knew he was in line for that money, he had no intentions of contacting her. He's a loser, she's an angry, bitter woman and they both need to go their separate ways before they destroy one another...
TANGLED BEAUTY by K.L. Middleton: ? Stars
I read this book separately a while back but for some reason I didn't give it a review, which means I probably didn't enjoy it. Now I really don't want to sit here and reread the same book so I'm going to skip ahead and read the next book in this bundle and maybe at some point in the future I'll come back and read this book again and provide feedback...
SAVING FOREVER (Part One) by Lexie Timms: 2 Stars
This wasn't so bad. Yes it ended on a cliffhanger but it wasn't stupid, sure it doesn't make me want to run and buy the next part to this series, probably because Charity and Elijah are two of the most boring people ever! The author stresses that this isn't erotica but a love story...maybe it needs a splash of that erotica because I've never read about a more slower moving couple ever! It just made the book drag, were they attracted to each other or what! Where's the white hot passion, the raw sensuality..they were just so unsure...which is strange because he's supposedly not only an accomplished doctor/surgeon, but also extremely popular with the ladies; and Charity stood her ground when leaving medical school to pursue her dream. Two strong individuals who are lacking that something that gears them in the same directional pull towards one another...do I really want to spend actual money on THREE more books, two with more cliffhangers, just to see them even more indecisive? NOPE!
PATRIOTIC DUTY by C.J. Pinard: 4 Stars
This, so far, is the best book in this Anthology. Its not only a full length novel, but its also good and keeps the reader engaged. I automatically liked Riley when he was first introduced, he was the strong, quiet type for being so young. He seemed very sure of himself, until his accident, but anyone in that situation would have self conflicting issues as well. Overall he was a very likable character, he did anger me when he lied,I didn't see that coming and I was really shocked because he was really sweet but once I found out why he lied....it all made sense!
Cara was a different story. I think she was shallow, annoying and despite her being a few years older than Riley she acted like an immature child. She didn't carry herself like an adult, single mother. More like an overgrown teenager with male issues. I think she was more driven by her BFF, who was so insecure it was pathetic, which is why she slept around so much, until she found her ball player. It wasn't until Cara lost Riley that I think she finally grew up and became an adult!
CROSSING THE LINE by Samantha Long: 3.5 Stars
Another good read in this bundle, except it ends on a cliffhanger! Dammit! I'm so tired of those! This book was actually getting interesting and then...BOOM....it ends! I'm mad that I have to spend money for a part two! The only reason I am going to get it is because I really want to know what happens with Victoria and Nick. I need to find out if Helena sees that her dad is a scumbag and quits treating her mom, who is working so hard for her and her sister, like crap. I'm also wondering if more will be said about Halle, her cheating husband and Luke's love for her! There are just too many juicy little things that were left unanswered that I need answered!
OPPOSING SIDES by CM Doporto: 3.5 Stars
Another cliffhanger, but that wasn't what bothered me about this book. Nope! What bothered me about this book was what a fucking pushover Lexy was! I know she was only twenty, but she was super smart. Smart enough to know that her fiancée was either gay or cheating on her, I'm still not sure which, but there is something seriously wrong with a man when he refuses to touch his long time girlfriend. Hell, he acted like she was a pesky younger sister than the woman he was engaged to, that's sick. Lexy was was smart enough to know that her parents are just posers. They went from being two fun, care free, drinking parents, to people with sticks shoved so far up their asses I'm surprised they were barely able to sit down. All to impress the mighty Norris'. Again..sick! Lexy allowed everyone, including Delaney to tell her what to do, make decisions for her, it was sickening how she sat back and accepted everything instead of telling them to kiss her ass. Until Raven came into the picture!
I'm glad she didn't cheat on Collin, though I wouldn't have blamed her if she did, but as I am not a fan of cheating, I'm glad she stayed true to his stupid ass until she decided to grow a fucking backbone and stand up for herself, against Collin, his parents and her parents as well! All because she is smart enough to have realized she deserves all the passion and intensity in the world and maybe Raven is the guy who can give her that...
I really liked this set of firsts. They were so good that quite a few titles I just had to have the rest of the series. Must read, you won’t be disappointed
On first checking this out I gave it 5 stars for value, I mean it's free and you get 9 books which is excellent yes, well yes and no. There's no arguing it's free but most of these are either free separately or free if you buy the second book, still free is free so why not 5 stars, well for 'Second Chances' you only get 8 chapters which doesn't seem much. Now a lot of really great compilations are springing up these days, I know a lot of them give you a 'first in series' hoping that you'll continue reading which is fine as long as they let the reader know beforehand and I know getting a set like this brings books you maybe wouldn't have noticed to your attention but my question is how do I rate this book do I give 5 stars since it's good value or do I give less since nearly all the books are free anyway.... Difficult decision, or it was for me anyway. Having been burnt in the past I always check out the series first to get an idea of the cost so I thought since I'm checking anyway I may as well share just in case it helps, hope it does.
Second Chances (Part One) by Dale Mayer. You only get the first 8 chapters to buy the book it's £2.84 for 300 pages.
Alyssa's Redemption (Part One) by Karly Morgan. The second book is £2.44 for 181 pages.
My Despicable Ex Book One by Sierra Rose. Book 2 is £2.40 for 282 pages.
Tangled Beauty by K. L. Middleton
Saving Forever (Part One) by Lexy Timms. Part 2 is £2.49 for 151 there will also be a part 3 as well.
Hooked on the Game by C.M. Owens.
Patriotic Duty by C.J. Pinard. Part 2 £1.88 for 251 pages.
Crossing the Line (Part One) by Samantha Long. Part 2 is £1.83 for 162 pages.
Opposing Sides by CM Doporto. I can't find this book on Amazon the next one is 'The Same Side' but I can't find that one either.
This is a decent collection of stories. A couple of the authors had editorial issues, but most were pretty good width editing their stories. What I really didn't like about this collection, is that most of the "books" in the set were not complete. I hate to be left hanging and found out quickly that several of them are only "part one" A couple of them actually seemed like the author just stopped in the middle of a story, like they thought "Oh, well I can make more money if I turn this into two books." I found a couple new authors to become games of out of this set though so I got something out of it. Had some chips story lines in a few of the books, besides being too short. I don't recommend this to anyone under 18 or those that don't like graphic sexual descriptions.
Hooked on the Game is the only book in this collection worth reading. I would have rated the collection 1 star if not for the first story. (I left it a separate review.) It didn't seem like the authors cared enough about their stories in the rest of the collection to make them good. There are more errors than a failed English paper, some of the stories lack the basic components a story needs, and that's just the beginning. I do NOT recommend this collection, but do recommend Hooked on the Game.
When I seen this set of books I had to get them. Two of the stories in this set I loved. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of books in those series. The other stories in this set was either too short to enjoy or had too many errors in them. I'm glad this set introduced me to new authors.
The stories offered good starts, but many were partial or incomplete. Even short stories bring closure. Very frustrating, especially when a whole new story would start next.
I have continued to buy and read every series in this box set. All of these starter stories made me want to continue the series. They have made good money buy giving this box set to me free!!
