The Shadow

Rate this book
Turns out, the guy I’ve been seeing is part of a notorious crime family two towns over.

(Don’t call him a mafioso, though, he doesn’t like it.)

Now, I’m sucked into the underworld, and I have to rely on the person lurking in the shadows to help me get my man back.

If I had a list of ways I never thought I’d spend my holiday break doing, dipping my toes into criminal activity was one of them.

Bonding with the creepy stalker who sent me disturbing texts was another.

Great second book!

All worth the wait! Really love the fleshed out story, characters, plot and plot pace. It's a slower burn, but that makes the romance feel more natural. Great book 2!

This book is the second installment after Broken, Seen, and Jagged. It introduces us to Dex, a character who becomes part of Cosette’s life. Together, they try to resolve the troubles left behind by The Brute—though it also raises the question: will this only complicate their current relationships?

Reading this book made me realize something: I usually tend to say yes to “why choose” trope, yet this is actually the first book of that kind I’ve read. Despite being a spicy novel, I found myself hooked more on the crime and thriller aspects of the story. As a fan of action movies and crime series, I especially enjoyed the detective-like scenes and the surprises that kept me guessing about what would happen next.

I liked how the story focused on Dex and how he became entwined in Cosette and Seige’s storyline. The conflicts between the characters add tension and depth, while the dynamics among them keep the story engaging.

This novel feels like a prelude to what’s to come in Book 3. I’m already excited to find out who “the Jock” will be. Will it turn out to be Cosette’s best friend Nero or will it be someone else entirely?

4/5⭐️

Much muuuch better than the first book, in my opinion. I felt more chemistry and connection between Cosette and Dex than her and Siege, and I honestly am rooting for Dex more than Siege! The connection had a more stable foundation and it felt like he cared more than he lusted for Cosette which is so endearing.

This book also contained much more story, more into the background of the Azuls, and more action, which, granted, were pretty short, but I enjoyed them nonetheless. Still, there’s a lingering sentiments in my mind like how this could’ve been better as an adult fiction, have them be working age, because it would make more sense, IMO. Also, where is Cosette’s dad? Why is he taking so long to come back? Haha!

This book was in no way perfect, but I lost sleep reading it and finished it in a day, I was really entertained. For that, I’m giving it 4 stars out of 5.

Loved this one just as much as I loved the first book!! I loved how Cosette and Dex grew close while spending so much time together trying to rescue Seige. I also appreciated that even though they began to feel more for each other as time went on they never acted on their feelings until Seige gave them the all clear. Sometimes is RH, I find that that isn't always the case and feels like cheating....
Loved almost everything about these books, but definitely would have appreciated it if the author didnt keep harping on how much the fmc eats all the time. We get it, she's a bigger girl (never really get an idea of how big), but its a major part of the books. Way bigger than I think it needs to be. We all come in different shapes and sizes, and I get this author wanted to make the bigger girl desirable, but she made it excessive IMO

“I felt his hot, warm liquid shoot inside me.”

PLEASE JUST CALL IT CUM. First there was “spunk,” now there’s “hot, warm liquid.” Please just call it cum…

The plot of these books is really weak, and the characters fall a bit flat. This book took place over what seems to be 2-3 weeks. I can’t tell the difference between Dex and Siege. Cosette is exactly the same—she just has sex now. And Nero is absent for the majority of the book. It makes me feel like I’m reading about nothing?

If I could make 2 requests: call it cum and choose almost any nickname besides “sweetie.”

A fantastic second installment, with a great slow burn build up with Cosette and Dex whilst they work together to save Siege and try to fight their undeniable chemistry.
