Bureau of Romantic Investigations (BRI) is romantic comedy-drama set on a university campus surrounded by hills in North India. A small team of professors led by Prof. Bakshi forms an open court where couples can come and express their anguish and frustrations toward each other. The court can be visited by any student of the university who wishes to learn from other people’s experiences.
BRI explores campus life not just from the fluffy romantic comedy angle but also explores different themes like heartbreak, college rage, flirtations, casual sex, one-night stands, commitment issues, committed relationships and similar experiences.
BRI, as a story, addresses the concerns of an age ruled by hormones and compassionately explores what today’s generation feels about love.
The story also features a key central character, Jai - a guy in his late 20s who became a faculty member after his failed startup and, consequently, his failed relationship. Initially, he hates his teaching job, but as he becomes more involved in the Bureau, he begins to enjoy helping students. This, in turn, helps him question his internal belief system.
Bureau of Romantic Investigations by Manav Vigg is a hilarious yet thought-provoking rom-com that perfectly captures the chaotic, emotional rollercoaster of campus life. Set in a picturesque university in North India, the story revolves around a group of quirky professors led by Prof. Bakshi, who run a unique “court” where students can air out their relationship drama, frustrations, and heartbreaks. It’s not just a place for gossip—it’s a safe space to learn from each other's messy, often hilarious experiences.
What I love about this book is how it doesn’t just sugarcoat college romance. Sure, there are flirtations, casual hookups, and cute love stories, but it also delves into the messier side of things like heartbreak, commitment issues, one-night stands, and the confusion of young love. It's a real, honest take on the ups and downs of being in a relationship at that age.
The main character, Jai, is someone I could totally relate to. He’s in his late 20s, stuck in a job he initially hates after a failed startup and an even worse failed relationship. But as he gets drawn into the work at the Bureau, he starts realizing that helping students with their issues is kind of healing him too. Watching his journey from cynicism to self-realization is super satisfying.
This book is more than just a romantic comedy—it’s a deep dive into what today’s generation thinks about love, relationships, and figuring out who you are. The humor is spot on, the characters are real and relatable, and the setting makes it all feel like a fun, emotional ride. If you’re looking for a book that mixes laughs with meaningful reflections on love and life, bureau of romantic investigations is totally worth picking up!
I found the idea of this book very unique from its title itself. I struggle to understand modern dating terms as "it's complicated" I think I understand their meaning now. Or do I? Anyways Manav Vigg's book takes a witty and innovative way of understanding college romance where a team of professors led by Professor Bakshi starts an open court, named Bureau of Romantic Investigation where couples of the college can express the problems they are facing in their relationships. Through different cases we see the frustration, anger, and dilemmas these couples face with each other, how they navigate their lives being interviewed in messy situations and the lucid writing makes it easy to comprehend. I found myself laughing at many points, especially at witty dialogues. Prof Bakshi's character is my favourite and Prof Jay? Leave the students even professors were dealing with heartbreak and their insights were really worth reading. The only thing I felt was underwhelming was the pacing of the book, at times it felt rushed and it was a little difficult to follow the cases due to inconsistency I felt. Nevertheless, the tone is cosy, the setting of college in northern hilly regions is picturesque and I loved how this book dealt with contemporary romances revolving around individuality that most people are becoming aware of and seek in a relationship, mutual companionship alongside having space for yourself, and especially moral ethics. I recommend it if you're interested in a light and innovative read.
Thanks so much Manav Vigg and the Book Reviewers Club for the opportunity to read this book. The Bureau of Romantic Investigations, meanwhile, approaches modern romance with a unique perspective, dissecting love, breakups, and commitment issues from a different angle. The book is set on campus, where college students bring their relationship dilemmas to be dissected, debated, and critiqued in an open forum—a setup that is both engaging and audacious.
My personal highlight of the book was Professor Bakshi, whose intelligence and wit turned every case session into an entertaining affair. Professor Jay's odyssey added richness, a reminder that even the guide who guides others with love is not immune to its murkiness. The blend of intelligence and humor created an interesting tale, and I found myself genuinely interested in the different cases, each one showing a modern-day dating dilemma.
The writing is easy and flowing, though the speed was uneven at times in some areas, so that some of the switches of cases came across as being abrupt. As good as that is, though, the book is more than a fun read—it's an invitation to readers to take a look at themselves and how they behave around love, relationships, and self-esteem. With its sinister humor, unique premise, and recognizable themes, this is a book that will stay in the heads of readers who enjoy edgy contemporary romance.
"Academicians were supposed to be different in a good way."
Bureau of Romantic Investigations by Manav Vigg is indeed a plot that has a unique storyline. The scene is from a university in the Hills of northeast India. The main plot revolves around a bureau that is set in the college led by Prof.Bakshi, where the students could come forward and discuss their problems on their personal relationships.
Well, to those of you who like romantic comedy, this is one of the go-to books. However, there are other elements in the book that make the story "complete." As and when you read, you get introduced to contrasting characters, their relationships, and so on.
The book cover is very cute and is apt to the content. The language is simple, making it a quick page-turner. Nobody can even think of such a bureau existing in an academic "college" setup.
Bureau of Romantic Investigations by Manav Vigg is a thought-provoking and unique read which keeps the readers hooked till the end.
The story is intriguing with a fast-paced plot. The author's flawless narrative style makes everything vivid. The language used is lucid and easy to understand.
The story is a romantic comedy-drama set on a university campus surrounded by hills in North India. The story revolves around Jai, a guy in his late 20s who becomes a faculty member after his failed startup and his failed relationship. The author introduces us to a court in which college students can speak about their romantic struggles, and their misunderstandings. It is a court for fighting relationship battles. This unique court allows both parties involved to understand each other's perspectives.
Such a fresh and humor-filled story. Overall, I loved this book and would strongly recommend it to all.
Bureau of Romantic Investigations by Manav Vigg is a fun story which takes us on a witty journey, a ingenious concept & it's execution here. It different from a lot of books that come out lately, especially in its genre.
The fictional story is set in a University in which a special bureau helps students navigate relationships! If that sounds like something you'd enjoy: Case by Case exploring themes of loss, hurt, heartbreak, ghosting & other relationship issues; then this comedic, romantic yet intriguing story is for you.
There can be moments where some plot points felt sudden, especially as everyone has different lived experiences so reactions differ always. Overall, good Rom-Com!
Bureau of Romantic Investigations is a book with a unique idea. This was the first time I read a book with such a concept of court proceedings. The setting gave Jai an opportunity to introspect and retrospect his previous relationship and current dynamics with the women around him. Reading about different teenage romance was fun as well. The complexities that these young couples faced were quite interesting. I was impressed by the 'shayari' this book presented from Prof. Qureshi and Nirdosh. This book also tried to quash the stereotypical ideologies in the society, such as lesbian relationships, student teacher relationships, women drinking, etc. However, the writing style could have been better. A much needed closure from the past and the last case was what I was expecting. Overall, this was a light hearted read which you can devour in one sitting.
The concept of a "Bureau of Romantic Investigations" is immediately captivating. It's a unique framework to examine the complexities of love and commitment.
The courtroom setting adds a layer of drama and intellectual sparring, forcing characters to articulate their feelings and defend their actions. This process unveils hidden motivations and unspoken truths.
Vigg masterfully uses this unusual structure to explore universal themes of love, betrayal, and the ever-elusive search for romantic justice.
What if your relationship problems landed you in court?
Imagine having a small fight with your partner, only to wake up the next day to a legal notice from the Bureau of Romantic Investigations (BRI), summoning you to court for a hearing. Sounds absurd, right? Welcome to Manav Vigg’s Bureau of Romantic Investigations—a wild, witty, and oddly relatable take on modern love, situationships, friendships, bread-crumbing, ghosting, and heartbreaks.
Set in a college in the Northern hills, the novel takes us through an open court where students can seek justice for their romantic entanglements: whether it’s heartbreak, betrayal, or just a classic case of “it’s complicated.” What starts as an earnest attempt to validate emotions and help students feel seen and heard soon spirals into something entirely unexpected.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book’s fresh premise—where else would you find an entire legal system dedicated to relationship drama? The characters are intriguing, the writing is crisp and humorous, and there are plenty of moments that make you chuckle. However, the storytelling occasionally loses its consistency. Some plotlines felt rushed and even unnecessary, leaving little room to absorb their full impact. While I liked the parallel journey of a young professor passionate about startups, certain moments felt arbitrary and out of place.
However, I have to applaud the book’s noble and stirring concept. It’s lighthearted, funny, and doesn’t take itself too seriously—perfect for a weekend read when you’re in the mood for something amusing and unserious.
Bureau of Romantic Investigations (BRI) is romantic comedy-drama set on a university campus surrounded by hills in North India. A small team of professors led by Prof. Bakshi forms an open court where couples can come and express their anguish and frustrations toward each other. I personally felt this was such a unique and diverse thought because who wouldn't want a court where they can discuss their relationship issues right?! Except the court doesn't give legal verdicts but helps couples understand each other's perspectives.Modern readers will really love Manav Vigg's unique take on the world of modern relationships focusing on themes like heartbreak, college rage , relationship frustration ,casual sex , one night stands etc. This book also focuses on the thought provoking questions about morality, ethics and social judgements . Has an amazing writing style with lucid language, accessible but engaging. Highly recommended!!
I recently finished Bureau of Romantic Investigations by Manav Vigg and found it to be an incredibly refreshing take on modern romance.
My Take on the Concept What really hooked me was the novel’s unique twist: an “open court” set up on a university campus, where a group of professors—led by the insightful Professor Bakshi—oversee a forum where students air their relationship grievances. Rather than serving as a typical courtroom drama or a run-of-the-mill romance, this setup allowed the narrative to explore love and heartbreak through honest dialogue and self-reflection.
How the Plot and Setting Engaged Me Set against the serene backdrop of a North Indian university nestled in the hills, the setting itself felt both picturesque and relatable. I followed several cases involving young couples, each presenting a different facet of modern relationships—from casual flings and commitment issues to the aftermath of breakups. One of the most compelling threads for me was the journey of Jai, a young faculty member. His struggles with a failed startup and personal heartbreak resonated with me, and watching his gradual transformation as he became more involved with the Bureau was genuinely inspiring.
My Thoughts on the Characters Jai: I found him to be a refreshingly relatable character. His initial disillusionment with his teaching role, paired with the vulnerability stemming from his personal losses, made his growth all the more satisfying as he learned to help and connect with his students.
Professor Bakshi and the Faculty Panel: Their roles in the narrative stood out to me because they weren’t about passing judgment. Instead, they fostered an environment of understanding and empathy. I appreciated how their presence underscored the idea that sometimes, dialogue is the best form of resolution.
The Students: Each case introduced me to a different perspective on love. While I did feel that juggling multiple cases sometimes made the narrative feel a bit rushed, these vignettes collectively painted a vivid picture of the complexities of contemporary relationships.
Themes and Tone Through My Eyes Modern Love and Communication: For me, the novel’s exploration of modern love was both thought-provoking and refreshing. It challenged the notion of traditional “happy endings” and stressed the importance of honest communication in overcoming relational hurdles.
Healing Through Dialogue: I loved how the Bureau’s approach wasn’t about punishment but about fostering understanding. This theme resonated deeply with me—it’s a reminder that sometimes the best way to resolve conflicts is through open, heartfelt conversation.
The Nuances of Relationships: The book didn’t shy away from the gray areas of love. Instead, it encouraged me to see beyond simplistic notions of right and wrong, especially when it comes to issues like infidelity or commitment struggles.
Humor and Heart: Despite tackling serious subjects, I found the humor woven throughout the narrative to be both refreshing and effective. It provided a balance that made the deeper emotional themes feel even more engaging.
My Views on the Writing Style and Structure Manav Vigg’s writing is clear and engaging, and I really enjoyed the crisp dialogues and the narrative’s structure—alternating between the individual cases and Jai’s internal journey kept me hooked. Although I felt that with five cases in just over 200 pages, some parts could have benefited from a slower pace, the overall storytelling was both effective and entertaining.
What I Loved and What Could Improve What I Loved:
The innovative concept of a romantic “courtroom” was unlike anything I’d seen before.
The relatable characters, especially Jai, made the emotional journey feel real.
The balanced tone—a mix of humor and introspection—kept me both entertained and emotionally engaged.
The subtle social commentary on modern dating norms made me think about my own experiences with love and relationships.
What Could Be Improved:
At times, I felt the pacing was a bit rushed given the number of cases explored.
I wished there had been a deeper dive into a few cases rather than a broader overview of many; this might have allowed for even richer character development.
Final Thoughts Overall, Bureau of Romantic Investigations is a compelling exploration of modern love that truly struck a chord with me. The blend of courtroom drama with real-life relationship dilemmas, coupled with a thoughtful and humorous narrative, makes it a standout in the contemporary romance genre. Whether you’re looking for a fresh perspective on love or simply an engaging story that challenges traditional narratives, I highly recommend giving this novel a try.
This book takes you deep into the world of modern relationships!
⚖INSIGHT: A university located in a small hill station sets up an open court where students facing issues in their romantic liaisons may file a complaint for the settlement of disputes between them & their current/former partners. Case by case, the students as well as their professors must learn the value of communication in any relationship, while also leaving room for mistakes, individuality, & redemption.
⚖REVIEW: The premise of the story is an innovative & intriguing one. Who wouldn't want such a court for fighting relationship battles? Except the court does not provide any legal verdicts, rather allows both parties involved to understand each other's perspectives. The book deserves praise for raising some thought-provoking questions about morality, ethics & societal judgements. Kudos to the author for his nuanced, realistic handling of the subject as well as his courage to deviate from the norm by delving into such a sensitive topic. The language was lucid, narration flowed smoothly, & the story was very engaging. That being said, certain progressions in the plot felt a little abrupt, & personally I differed from the author's views.
⚖STRENGTH: 1. Writing style & language - accessible but engaging. 2. The themes are dealt with expertly - modern dating scenarios, young adult relationships, as well as self-discovery, identity, & coming-of-age, the book packs a punch but never feels like a mess. Terrific job done by the author, very realistic too. 3. Evenly paced; slight dashes of humour keep things lively. 4. Character of Jai was chalked out well; build-up of chemistry between lead couple.
⚖WEAKNESS: 1. A certain plot development felt sudden, because there was little build-up to it. 2. Even though the questions raised about moral policing & ethics have a valid point, one could add that the power imbalance in a relationship affects the parties involved, & hence the issue concerned here cannot be definitively made free of judgement.
𝐐𝐮𝐨𝐭𝐞: "More than her credentials as a Law student, what really helped her were her powers of comprehension that ensured that she would almost always be to the relevant point."
𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐈 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬? This book has been receiving a lot of appreciation in my reading circle. When a friend personally recommended it to me, and the blurb piqued my interest, I knew I had to give it a read.
𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The cover design is absolutely delightful! The vibrant red and white color scheme, paired with charming illustrations, instantly caught my eye. The title perfectly encapsulates the essence of the book, and the overall presentation, including beautifully designed chapter breakers, adds to its aesthetic appeal.
𝐍𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The storytelling is fast-paced and straightforward, with a conversational touch in certain places. The language is clear, making it an easy and engaging read.
𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧: ✓The story is set in a university where professors run a Bureau for Romantic Investigations, helping individuals navigate their romantic dilemmas. This unique premise is both intriguing and refreshingly executed. It also brings back cherished memories of college life, adding a nostalgic touch. ✓The plot is engaging and well-developed, making for a compelling read. The characterization is well-balanced, with each character receiving just the right amount of focus according to their role in the narrative. ✓One drawback I noticed is the lack of proper buildup. Certain events are introduced quite abruptly, without smooth transitions or gradual development. ✓The book effectively explores themes of love and heartbreak, delving into modern dating concepts such as ghosting, breadcrumbing, and situationships, making it highly relevant to today’s generation. ✓With its fresh concept, engaging narrative, and accessible language, this book is a must-read for those interested in contemporary romance. Its readability makes it especially suitable for young adults and beginner readers.
I just wrapped up reading "Bureau of Romantic Investigations" and it has captured my mind. This particular novel revolves around a university in Northern India where a professor by name of Prof. Bakshi has set up a court of sorts to which students can bring their relationship issues to be troubleshooted.
As I was turning the pages, I imagined I was on the campus watching the life of students revolving around falling in love, breaking hearts, and every single thing in between. The author, Manav Vigg, beautifully covers various cynosures such as commitment phobia, which are problems wide spread in today’s consumed generation.
For me, the aspects of most radical candor were breathtaking. The characters are so deeply human and hence they were flawed in their lives. Jai, the pivot character, I must say, is executed beautifully. From my perspective, he doesn’t only serve in the class as an inspiring educator, but his very own life story is inspiring in the flesh, having gone from being a failed businessman to actually doing what he adores, teaching and in the process evolving as a person.
The author's portrayal of campus life and the stories within stems from his deep passion for storytelling as a skilled academician. Hence, the writing is simple and seamless which is greatly appealing, along with it's easy to follow action. Because of this, the book is quick to read and enjoyable.
I found it fascinating how the author penned otherelationships within the book. His authenticity reaches no bounds as the charactersembarque on tough conversations and tackle difficult issues head on.
All-in-all, I urge everyone to delve into “Bureau of Romantic Investigations”, it is a truly captivating book. The story is bound to make anyone laugh, cry, and even reflect on their own relationships. It is relatable and engaging novel, and readers might even come to learn about love and life.
“We should really not be concerned with artificial intelligence. AI is like a kid in a park that the human mind can convert into a dark, dense forest in a flick. We are the slaves of desires and the masters of imagination." This is an excerpt from the book, that was quite funny, fantastic, filled with crazy but worth it thoughts on relationship nowdays. Basically A bureau is formed of law students and professors, set up for discussions and case studies, about relationship people share with eachother. Bureau of Romantic investigation , rectifies flaws, critiques, inside story of what is going on, ideas and outcomes regarding the bond two people in a realtionship.
A University that sets up to listen to the heartfelt Emotions, feelings about what they've experienced, are experiencing and what is that keeps them motivated to stay in that relation.
Divided in to 5 episodes, each containing almost 14-15 chapters. The narration continues with so many characters named Prof Jai, who was newly added to BRI, Prof. Qureshi, Prof. Dheera, Prof. Bakshi. A case in light , was of Ms. Rinku and Felu, in a hearing lot happened like expression about heartly felt desires, problems faced, and feeling not understood.
I found this subject interesting, like seriously reading about behaviours, relationships that weren't working, but why? Was it so, is well heard in the University.
I am mesmerized at author's narration, his interpretation and idea of bringing this kind of imagination to A book and represent it beautifully.
I would truely like recommending the book to people wanting to read A book that is finely written based on some humanistic approaches.
“Marte hain aarzu mein marne ki, Maut aati hai par nahin aati.”
A few shayars /poetic expression like this blown my mind too!
What if heartbreak had a hearing? What if ghosting, breadcrumbing, and betrayal could be debated in an open court—not for punishment, but for closure? Manav Vigg’s Bureau of Romantic Investigations takes this intriguing premise and spins it into a witty, insightful, and thoroughly entertaining novel.
Set in a university nestled in the Northern hills, this story follows five couples who bring their romantic grievances to a unique "court" run by faculty members. Instead of legal verdicts, the court fosters dialogue, allowing students to voice their emotions, navigate misunderstandings, and confront the ever-elusive question: Who is really at fault in a failed relationship?
At its heart, the book isn’t just about romance—it's about communication, individuality, and the blurry lines between right and wrong. The protagonist, Jai, a young professor, adds an emotional depth to the narrative as he grapples with his own heartbreak while mediating the cases before him. His journey of self-discovery is just as compelling as the courtroom drama unfolding around him.
Manav Vigg’s writing strikes a balance between humor and introspection. The dialogues are crisp, the character dynamics feel real, and the exploration of modern relationships is both refreshing and thought-provoking. While some plot points feel abrupt and certain developments could have used more buildup, the book’s originality more than makes up for it.
Lighthearted yet layered, Bureau of Romantic Investigations is a delightful read that challenges societal judgments, makes you laugh, and leaves you pondering your own take on love and justice. A recommended one for anyone who enjoys contemporary fiction with a unique twist!

The story’s central character, Jai, adds depth as he navigates his own struggles with a failed startup, a broken relationship, and his unexpected role as a faculty member. How Jai adapts to his new professor life, his mentor Dheera is a wonderfully narrated plot. Jai’s introduction in this plot was so good. Professor Qureshi’s Hindi poetry for every situation is a commendable change that you can look forward to when the story is ongoing. The full-page cure little drawings were another favourite of mine in this book. The book cover deserves a special mention. The university notice that carries the case details before commencement of the BRI session was very interesting to read. The book’s strength lies in its unique premise and the way it captures the essence of campus life. The characters are well-drawn, and the writing is accessible yet thought-provoking.

Overall, "Bureau of Romantic Investigations" is a truly captivating book that everyone should read. Anyone will laugh, cry, and even think about their relationships after reading the story. The novel is relatable and interesting, and readers may even gain insight into love and life.
Love—an enigma wrapped in poetry, drowned in sad songs, and analyzed to death in late-night conversations. Is it truly complicated, or do we just enjoy making a mess of it? Maybe if we stopped overthinking texts and searching for cosmic signs in coffee foam, we’d have fewer tangled stories and more happily-ever-afters. But then again, where’s the mystery in something that comes too easy?
In a university nestled in the chilly hills of North India, love isn’t just a distraction—it’s a case to be heard. To keep students from losing themselves in the labyrinth of romance, the administration takes an unusual step: an open court for matters of the heart. Here, under the watchful eyes of professors-turned-judges, students can summon their exes, almost-lovers, and romantic nemeses to debate their tangled affairs. No verdicts, no winners—just a public airing of grievances, heartbreaks, and misunderstandings, all in the hope that a little courtroom drama might just untangle the chaos of young love.
I loved the concept—fresh, unique, and surprisingly familiar. Sure, airing out personal matters in public sounds embarrassing, but sometimes, unspoken words cause more trouble than the ones we dare to say. The book explores this idea beautifully, making it feel less like a trial and more like a much-needed conversation. With several cases unfolding, I even found myself connecting with one. The writing is sharp and witty, especially in the back-and-forth between the accuser and the accused, each determined to prove their side. And maybe that’s the whole point the author’s trying to convey—the messiness of love isn’t in the feeling itself, but in how we insist on complicating it.
A court in a university for romantic disputes …. A novel idea with brilliant execution.
BRI is set up in a university with a view to provide a platform for students to discuss their relationships , the complications , the misunderstandings, the heartbreaks in an open and mature manner. The court is chaired by a bench of professors from the same college.
The central idea of the book is unique and eccentric. The explorations of the different aspects of human relations through different cases is insightful. The cases discussed in the courthouse are not superficial and trivial but relatable and serious. The arguments in the courtroom as well as in the university are compelling and impressive. The cases with their intricacies have been carved out nicely. They are realistic and believable. The character of Jai who enters the university as a faculty with a lot of emotional baggage is crafted well.
The writing provides a balance between humour and contemplation. The characters are deep with developed personalities. The candour and openness of the story feels like a breath of fresh air. The freedom to discuss relationships in front of several people without judgement or irrespective of the judgement is inspiring. The storytelling combines the romantic aspects of the relationships with a fun and quirky narration making it a quick and easy read.
Though some aspects appear cliched at places, the innovative plot and author’s singular storytelling makes the book engaging and enjoyable to read. A fresh take on modern relationships with thought provoking moments and out of the box approach.
Manav Vigg's "Bureau of Romantic Investigations" isn't your typical rom-com. In fact, it's unlike anything I've read before. This innovative book plunges us into a world where relationship woes are adjudicated in a "moot court" setting within a chilly Indian university. The very concept is a breath of fresh air, and I found myself immediately hooked. Imagine a legal system dedicated to matters of the heart - breakups, betrayals, the dreaded "it's complicated" status - it's both absurd and brilliantly relatable. Author's narrative, told through a series of "cases," explores the diverse dilemmas of modern relationships. From ghosting and bread-crumbing to the intricacies of situationships, the book cleverly addresses contemporary dating anxieties without ever feeling preachy. It's a witty and insightful look at how we navigate love in the 21st century, capturing the humor and heartbreak with equal measure. The writing is crisp and engaging, making it a quick and enjoyable read. What truly sets "Bureau of Romantic Investigations" apart is its sheer originality. I'm reading something like this for the first time! It's a testament to Author's creativity that he's crafted such a unique and entertaining take on the rom-com genre. This book isn't just about finding "happily ever after"; it's about navigating the messy, confusing, and often hilarious realities of love in our modern scenario.
A new and humorous look at contemporary love, college life, and relationship problems can be found in Manav Vigg's Bureau of Romantic Investigations. The novel, which takes place in a university in North India, presents a novel idea: an open court where students can bring their love complaints—from betrayal to heartbreak—and seek justice in matters of the heart. Under the direction of Prof. Bakshi and a group of academics, the BRI provides a lighthearted and perceptive examination of love, dedication, and the intricacies of contemporary relationships.
The book's likable characters and captivating plot are among its best features. Through his encounters with the court, the main character, Jai, a reluctant professor who was formerly an entrepreneur, changes. The story gains complexity from his self-discovery journey, which included his rejection of his academic function and eventual discovery of fulfillment in assisting pupils.
My favorite character is Prof. Bakshi. He is a charming character because of his insight, sense of humor, and unorthodox method of resolving interpersonal difficulties. In addition to providing entertainment, his advice imparts important life lessons.
Anybody who likes amusing but thought-provoking books should read this one, in my opinion. Bureau of Romantic Investigations is a fun weekend read because of its blend of romance, humor, and self-discovery!
This is a fascinating and adorable romcom set in a universe where romance, humor, and investigation intersect in the most unexpected and entertaining ways. The book introduces readers to a courtroom dedicated to affairs of the heart, but with a twist that every emotional oversight, broken heart, and romantic misstep is investigated and, in many cases, hilariously scrutinized. The premise is really unique. The book depicts a court system in which love is handled as a case to be resolved, with an assortment of vibrant hysterical personalities presiding over various romantic struggles. One of the book's strongest points are its savvy phrases and quick banter between the characters. The discourse is illuminated with wit. Every interaction is full of creative wordplay, snarky humor, and hilarious misunderstandings. It's the type of book that compels you to reread passages in order to spot every subtle joke or amusing comment. The author's skill of timing and humor ensures that the story is never predictable or uninteresting which keeps the reader interested from beginning to end. It strikes a perfect mix between comedy and sentiment, and it's tough not to root for the characters as they deal with the absurdities of love and attraction. It is a true delight for everyone who enjoys a good chuckle, a touch of romance, and a plot full of fresh twists. The novel has an excellent balance of emotion and humor.
Bureau of Romantic Investigations takes you on a journey through love, humor, and the quirks of human relationships. Set against the picturesque backdrop of a university in Shimla, the book crafts an atmosphere that feels both intimate and refreshing, where romance is dissected, debated, and, at times, put on trial in the open forum of the Bureau of Romantic Investigations (BRI).
The concept of BRI itself is a unique and dare I say, brilliant—an open court where students bring their relationship troubles, seeking verdicts on matters of the heart. This part of the novel was the highlight for me, making for some of the most engaging and thought-provoking moments. The writing is engaging, and keeps you invested throughout, and there's a certain charm in how the book balances humor with the deeper intricacies of love and attraction.
That said, I wasn’t expecting the smut, and while some of the s*xual descriptions felt a little offbeat, they do add to the book’s unabashedly bold and unfiltered nature. If you choose to pick this one up, I’d suggest leaving behind any preconceived notions or judgments—it’s a book that doesn’t conform to traditional ideas of romance.
Overall, Bureau of Romantic Investigations is a fun one-time read, that has wit, love stories, and a setting that adds to its charm. It’s different from anything I’ve read before. A solid 3.75⭐ read for me!
Bureau of Romantic Investigations (BRI) is romantic comedy-drama that takes place on a hill-surrounded university campus in North India. A small group of professors headed by Prof. Bakshi sets up an open court where couples can visit and vent out their sorrows and frustrations against one another. The court can be accessed by any student of the university who wants to learn from others' experiences.
The writing style of the author is witty and engaging, and readers find it easy to get lost in the story as well as the lives of the characters. The characters are well developed, and each has a different take on romance. The combination of humor and emotional moments makes the story relatable, drawing from the common experience of love and heartbreak. The dialogues are crisp and sometimes tinged with sarcasm, giving the conversations depth and I must say I was totally attracted to the cover photo of this book. It's gorgeous.
I will highly recommend this book to everyone. Due to the author's captivating writing skills I was engaged throughout the book without getting bored at all. BRI, as a novel, speaks to the concerns of an age governed by hormones and sympatheticly delves into what this generation believes about love. So grab your copy today and you will definitely enjoy reading it as much as I did.
It's hard to classify some books into a specific genre. 'Ram C/o Anandhi' is one such book. It's a part romance, a part travelogue and even a coming of age story. Blending different genres, the author has woven an engaging tale.
The story follows Sriram who has shifted to Chennai from Alleppey to make movies and joined a film school. There he meets Anandhi who worked as a receptionist. One meeting leads to another and soon they are a part of a motley group. Though close, they feel Anandhi is hiding a secret from them. What's the truth Anandhi is hiding?
The story narrates Ram's experiences as he begins his new life in Chennai. Apart from the new sights and experiences, Ram also meets new characters like Anandhi, Reshma, Vetri, and Malli, each with their own backstories. The love story between Ram and Anandhi is unique. Originally written in Malayalam, the story retains the flavour of the original and the glossary at the end was helpful. Apart from love and friendship, the story explores some darker themes like gender and violence against women.
The characters are well crafted; from Ram and Anandhi to Malli, Reshma & Vetri. The narrative is engaging and unfolds much like a fast paced movie keeping you hooked.
Overall "Ram C/o Anandhi" is a unique and fun read, equal parts entertaining and thought provoking. A great read for everyone.

Ever miss those raw, real, and often hilarious conversations you'd have in your college dorm late at night? The kind that delved deep into the messy world of love, sex, and the inevitable heartbreaks that come with it? Reading "BRI" felt exactly like that – a nostalgic trip back to campus where emotions run high and everything feels intensely, beautifully alive.
Imagine those candid discussions, but now they're playing out in a courtroom...sort of. "The Bureau," as it's referred to in the book, offers more than just entertaining sessions; it's a window into the beautiful, sometimes awkward, and always evolving landscape of relationships. From navigating the murky waters of casual dating to unpacking years of emotional baggage, each case unfolds with a potent mix of honesty and the potential for growth.
Manav Vigg's writing is a masterclass in balancing wit and empathy. He doesn't romanticize love into some unattainable ideal, nor does he cynically dismiss its power. We follow Jai, a young professor, as he grapples with his own relationship woes while attempting to guide others through theirs. It's through this journey that we, and Jai himself, begin to understand a powerful truth: perhaps helping others mend their broken hearts is, in a way, a path to healing our own.
Romantic Comedy / Contemporary Fiction – "Bureau of Romantic Investigations" by Manav Vigg
Summary:
Set in a picturesque North Indian college campus, this novel follows a quirky yet brilliant initiative—an open court called the "Bureau of Romantic Investigation", where couples bring their relationship problems to be resolved under the watchful eye of professors. From misunderstandings to betrayals, the court aims not to punish, but to offer closure through dialogue and introspection.
Author's Style & Tone:
Manav Vigg’s writing is witty, vibrant, and refreshingly original. He balances humor with emotional depth, keeping the narrative engaging while also highlighting the complexities of modern relationships. The tone is conversational and light-hearted, yet often thoughtful.
My POV:
I found the book to be a clever take on dating culture. The premise is fresh, the characters are relatable, and the emotional honesty in each case made it a compelling read.
Recommendation:
Highly recommended for those who enjoy humorous romance with a unique concept and social commentary.
Conclusion:
"Bureau of Romantic Investigations" isn’t just about love stories—it’s about closure, communication, and the beautiful mess of relationships. A heartfelt and entertaining read that I thoroughly enjoyed!
First Impression: Bureau of Romantic Investigations gives off a fresh, quirky vibe—almost like a mix between a campus sitcom and an emotional drama. The idea of professors running a kind of emotional “open court” for romantic grievances? That’s so unusual and oddly charming. I can already picture awkward confessions, unexpected advice, and a lot of laughter and cringe-worthy truths.
Tone & Themes: Even though it’s billed as a romantic comedy-drama, it seems to dive deeper than just flirtation and fun. There’s a definite coming-of-age tone, where the characters (students and faculty) wrestle with emotional maturity, identity, and what love even means in the chaos of early adulthood. It’s got a campus energy, hormones flying everywhere, but with this gentle, compassionate look at what young people actually feel.
Character Hooks: Jai’s arc sounds super promising—classic disillusioned adult thrust into a setting he didn’t sign up for, only to find something deeper in it. His failed startup and relationship give him that touch of vulnerability. You can tell his growth will be subtle but meaningful.
Vibes & Expectations: This feels like something I’d want to read on a weekend, sipping chai, maybe in the hills myself. A little nostalgic for college days, a little thoughtful about love, and definitely entertaining with some soul.
