Alternative Paths

Rate this book
Traykie has never been a member of the in-crowd at the high school in his small mountain town. He has Type I Diabetes and that makes him different, so he hangs with his own group of friends who don't fit the in-crowd criteria either. They do well in their own company until Mellissa moves into town and turns Traykie's world upside down. Mellissa is no ordinary girl; she comes from a long line of gypsies from which she has inherited supernatural powers. The closer the two become, the more her genetic powers are transferred to Traykie. In their bond, Mellissa and Traykie find the truest form of love, but it asks more of them than either can imagine. Alternative Paths the Beginning is the first in a trilogy following Traykie on his journey through life, where he must learn to come to terms with love, loss, and the responsibility of his new supernatural abilities. This book is part romance, part paranormal, and part coming of age. Infused with drama and heartfelt emotion, this is a book that will appeal to a variety of readers and leave you in anticipation, waiting for the next exciting step in Traykie's journey.

Well this was different!
I struggled a bit with the type of writing in this book, but I managed and went through with it.
We find Traykie (such a cool and different name!) struggling with health issues regarding his Diabetes, he needs a special type of diet in order to keep himself from having a crisis. Traykie is such a sweet character, definitely different from all the male characters I've ever read. Always nice, kind and truthful to his parents and friends.

One day he sees Melissa and every single aspect of his life changes, literally, there's something about Melissa that piques his attention and it only increases with time.

Their relationship evolves into something beautiful, at times too romantic but still refreshing!
Their paths crossed and they find themselves fighting against time and their fate.

Such a nice book!

I thought is was way to mushy and sugary for my taste. But I will admit that I did bawl my eyes out at the end. It is not something that I would read again as the characters didn't seen very real to me. In my experience this many people are never this nice and understanding. But it is a story and bottom line it was pretty good.

Very interesting read! I borrowed this novel and its companion a few months back, the topic is spot on YA novel material. Highly relatable with an intriguing supernatural twist.
