Title: The Queen's Jester by Mishka Jenkins Genre: Romance You should always be careful what you wish for, even if you are a queen.
Queen Marie thinks she has it all now that she's married the man of her dreams. Events don't turn out quite so happily-ever-after, though, and Marie has to face some unpleasant realizations. Then there is the presence of the darkly attractive new Jester who seems intent on fulfilling her every desire ...
Let me start by saying that I devoured this book in one sitting. The book was extremely captivating, and I found myself turning the pages feverishly, wanting to know what was going to happen next. The characters were brilliantly crafted and very believable - I certainly could understand Marie's dilemma between the two men. Which brings me to the part that I absolutely adored about this book. The story was gripping, tantalizing, and everything a romance should be ... without any sex scenes. I absolutely love that the romance was the core material of this book. Yes, there was kissing and petting and flowery words - all the stuff that makes girls sigh in contentment. But not much more. I'm not saying I mind sex scenes - I just find it so refreshing when an author can tell a really good love story without one.
And this is definitely a really good love story.

The Queen’s Jester by Mishka Jenkins is a story that delightfully kept me from a long list of to-do tasks I had nicely planned out for the day. I found myself reading more than I had allotted each time I sat down. I needed to find out the answers swirling around in my head about this mysterious Jester that was wedging himself between a young couple’s love story trying desperately to bud and how all this tied into her newly inquired emerald pendant. I kept deliberating throughout half of the story if he was indeed someone to like who was there to rescue her from a possibly loveless marriage or just a bloody thorn to their bud. I thoroughly enjoyed the flow of the story and the imagery Ms. Jenkins skillfully and beautifully created as I went along for the ride through this Queen’s well crafted frustrations, all the while, sympathizing with her longing for that one thing we all desire, to be truly loved. I highly recommend it.
This book was not easy to put down. Upon finishing one chapter I couldn’t help but to find out what happens next.
The Queen’s Jester is filled with nonstop excitement from beginning to end, there was never a dull moment. One thing I really loved about this story was how it was full of mystery. Not only was the environment and time setting perfect to create such mystery, but the characters especially were full of mystery—there was always something more to them than what meets the eye and that is something you have to read the entire story to figure out. I love how even though the story has a bit of seriousness to it, humor is cleverly woven throughout. Another thing I believe added to this story was the creative use of descriptions, especially in the characters’ actions—it really created movement and made the story come to life.
I am definitely looking forward to reading more stories from this author and this is definitely one that will not disappoint.
Not sure what I was expecting when I started this book, colour me surprised when I finished it. I'd completed it in a couple of hours and was actually disappointed that it ended. I found the story well written and fast paced, filled with Romance, intrigue and suspense. A story that had me guessing till the end as to what would unfold for Queen Marie, her husband King Warrick and her Jester.. With out giving anything away "no spoilers".... I was amazed with the unexpected twist at the end and was pleased with how the author ended the story. I was left with that oh so wonderful feeling that, YES!!! that's how I wanted it to end...
Would recommend this book to all fans of romance ..
When Queen Marie receives a beautiful gift of an emerald amulet at her wedding celebrations, she's immediately captivated by it. Feeling neglected by her new husband, Warrick, Marie is entranced by the new jester when he arrives. He gives her the affection she craves, but as the story progresses Marie begins to realise that all is not as it seems.
I found this a hugely enjoyable story. The character of Marie was sympathetic and engaging, and the story pulled me as the reader along, with its ups and downs. The story had plenty of twists and turns and I thought the author did well to keep me guessing as to what would happen next. The descriptive passages were vivid and the imagery beautiful. I could easily picture myself with Marie in her winter gardens.
I liked the world that the author created, with the descriptions of the gorgeous gowns Marie wears and the festivities at the palace. The sense of isolation that Marie feels at times was well depicted too and I empathised with her in her predicament.
The one thing that for me didn't work quite as well was the character of Warrick. I thought that he had a lovely personality, but I was unsure why exactly he wasn't being demonstrative with Marie. At times I wondered if perhaps he wasn't attracted to women and so this confused me as the story went on.
But overall this was a book that kept me reading on, wanting to find out what would happen to Marie and if she would find lasting happiness. I would definitely recommend it as a fun, gripping read.
Wow I was not expecting this book to play out the way it did. In fact I am still thinking about it because it was so intriguing and suspenseful. I read this in one sitting for that very reason.
The author does an outstanding job by interweaving a historical story with a fantasy type feeling. I was thoroughly engrossed in the relationships between Marie, the new Queen and her distant husband Warrick, the King, as well as the Queen and her Jester.
Marie’s frustration with Warrick is understandable and sometimes I wanted to shake some sense into his head where is comes to women. As far as the Jester goes I couldn’t quite put my finger on it but he bothered me because he was so perfect. The development of the two men’s character as polar opposites continued to pull you into the love story till the very surprising conclusion.
I recommend this to romance readers and readers wanting something out of the ordinary read.
