Halloween LaVeau never intended on being the leader of the Underworld. Now the job is all hers. But that doesn’t mean other witches aren’t trying every trick in the book to take that title away from Hallie.
The Underworld Board has sent investigator Charlie Scott to look into all the mishaps Hallie has encountered since becoming the leader. Almost immediately upon Charlie’s arrival, strange things start happening at LaVeau Manor.
Hallie has a little help handling the odd occurrences. The sexy half-brothers Nicolas Marcos and Liam Rankin are there to help Hallie navigate the ins and outs of the Underworld. Since the brothers are witches and vampires this could be to Hallie’s advantage.
When Hallie’s long lost uncle appears and the investigator disappears, Hallie must work a lot of magic to make things right again, or stand losing her new status as leader of the Underworld.

I just adored this whole series. Book 4 was just as good as the others. I wish the author would have left out a lot of the "catch up" information for readers who had not read the other 3 books. It got a bit annoying but wasn't quite as bad as book three therefore, i gave another 5 stars like books 1 & 2.
It was so nice reading a book about witches, vampires, demons, magic and paranormal things, without tons of blood and gore. The touch of romance was even greater.
I recommend this series to all who enjoy a good fast paced read.
Once again the bad guys are after the Book of Mystics, but Hallie has to fend for hreself in this one while everyone else lends moral support. Just as Hallie gets a bit more confidence in her own use of magic, suddenly everyone else starts loosing their's. Add in angry vampires who say witches are casting spells on them, and a hostile board inspector, and everything is just as peachy as pie for the new Underworld leader. Halloween LaVeau isn't having one of "those days",. She seems to be having one of those months! This learn and you earn experience venture was very entertaining.
This story was weak. It was still fun to hang around with Hallie and her friends but the "crime" part was just dull. Hallie drove me crazy sometimes with her investigator skills and her actions. Many times I wanted to slap her to ask better questions if she wants to find out something. The whole plot was weak, it could be so much better with different twists. But as always, I am on a rollercoaster with this serie, I love one book than hate the next one, than love another one and get bored with the last one. I am curious how it will go with the next, if I will be lucky or not :D . And I would really like to what the leader of the underworld is supposed to be doing, Hallie seems like she has absolutly no idea, shouldnt be the leader more important?, people paying more attention and not just called her oh you are the little Hallie...Da**n it! She is the leader of the underworld, give her more credit :D It looks more like a position to learn magic than to lead someone. I think this whole leader thing should be prepared better. In this book it really showned how it is not worked out in details, it feels more like "oh what cool position I could give my main charachter? I have it! The leader of the underworld" (even though main character is totally pointless in doing magic and has absolutly no idea how to lead or how are the important people, she does not even know how to send people to some magic pokey) .... well I should wrap this rant up! No hate! I love Rose Pressey and I love Halloween, just some things just do not work out for me really.
WARNING: Some 'spoilers' included. I've read the previous books in this series, and though they are riddled with errors that editing should have caught, I tried to overlook it because these are 'cozy mysteries' and are generally considered quick, easy reads, not award winners. This one, however, has so many wording errors, and plot problems that I had a hard time finishing it. For example, in one part of the book the cat she has is referred to as female, but later the same cat is referred to as male. Or when they pull up to her mother's store at one point, it says that they pull up and shift the car into gear - did they drive the whole way there in park? At one point I thought the writing had been delegated to a child because the dialogue was so stilted and childish. Like at the 'climactic' end there's a chase where the protagonist yells 3 separate times some version of "You won't get away from me." Then during a vampire fight the protagonist is bitten and being drained of her blood to the point of weakness and near-death, but immediately after the vampire is disabled the protagonist is just fine? I can't continue to read this series, and am disappointed that I wasted time on the previous books trying to like it. If you like witchy cozy mysteries, I'd recommend Madelyn Alt or Juliette Blackwell instead.
What would happen if you are the Leader of the Underworld and someone shows up on your doorstep saying that they have been sent by the Underworld Board Members and that you are under investigation?
The agent tells the Leader of the Underworld that the board is not convinced of her competency for the job.
When this happened to Halloween LaVeau, Hallie to her friends, she decides to take action. Hallie wants to know why she is under investigation.
Then several vampires show up on Hallie’s doorstep demanding that she make the witches casting spells against them be stopped…Hallie is stunned, as she knows of no such spells being cast. What Hallie does know is that people are disappearing and the witches of Enchanted Point are all losing their magic.
How can Hallie handle the Board investigation and her other duties simultaneously? What can she do about the Vampires, the missing people and the witches’ loss of magical powers? Can she trust anyone to help her?
This storyline had me captivated right from the beginning right up until the end. This was the best one so far! I'm looking forward to more of the same! I totally enjoyed the characters and the very interesting storyline! I hope there's more of Uncle Fitz in the coming books! I enjoyed his character very much!
Obviously, if you have to go through life named Haloween, your life will be very complicated. Hallie does the best she can with the constant surprises she face. I am a bit surprise that a witch has so many problems figuring out the people around her, but since she is a little bit of a walking disaster, she does. The adventure is surprising and funny, short and sweet.
Again an interesting entertaining read. This time Halloween’s lack of self confidence starts to wear a little thin. And again, Good triumphs over evil. I will try one more book in this series.
This book was funny at times. Hall's had to keep watch for Uncle Fits. Not a easy thing to do. She has her villains in this book. I hope you have read the first three books. That is a must.. I am ready to go to book five.
Fantastic as always! Loved it! Fantastic plot and story! Keeps you guessing from the first page. Full of lots of magic, mayhem, and mishaps! Lots of strange and weird characters, vampires, and witches! Full of surprises, missing Magic, messed up spells, and drama! Great book!
Cute but clueless girl gets chosen to be leader of the underworld. Classic case of good guys have to win, even if they have no idea on how to do it. If she ever figures out how to work her magical powers she could be formidable.
Another winner in this series. I am racing through these books, because they are so fun and difficult to put down. I am really enjoying ing the character development, and looking forward to see what comes next.
