Welcome to Thin Slices, the debut collection from Melody E. McIntyre, writer of short, dark fiction. With over 90 stories, all less than 1000 words apiece, this little book is bursting with scares. Melody drew her inspiration from history, mythology, science fiction, monsters, ghosts, and secret places only accessible by night.
These stories may be tiny, but the terrors they invoke are anything but.
Melody lives in Ontario, Canada and writes short, speculative fiction that has been published by several small presses. She is also an avid reviewer who writes reviews and articles for The Horror Tree, Ginger Nuts of Horror, and on her blog. Melody is a member of Sisters in Crime and is the secretary for the Ontario chapter of the Horror Writers Association. She earned her Master of Arts studying Ancient Greek and Roman Studies and often infuses her work with elements of Greek mythology. In her day job she works as a legal assistant and in her spare time, she loves reading, embroidery, and martial arts.
I really enjoyed this collection of flash horror stories. I loved the way that mythology was included in some of them. Each of them was fun to read and were unique in their own ways. I enjoyed the length of them, being short yet effective. The length reminds me of the “Scary Stories to Tell In The Dark” books I read growing up! My favorite short story in this collection is “Someone Again”. Recommend this book to anyone who loves short stories with some scares!

This is a wonderful collection of horror flash fiction (under 1,000 words) by Melody E. McIntyre.
With a stunning 92 flash fiction pieces to enjoy, there is certainly something for everyone.
The collection is organised into five categories for ease of reading: - From the Past - From the Wilds - From the Grave - From Other Worlds - From Our Nightmares
Whether you're hiding under a blanket, checking the windows are locked so the vampires can't get in, trying to avoid that creepy marionette, running from escaped Egyptian mummies, or just wondering how you're going to thank (or survive) your new boss... then this collection is for you!

When the book started with the Mclntyre saying they have trouble writing long form books but the short stories were much easier and flying out of her, I was intrigued. I love reading but sometimes your just want something short and simple to fill a few minutes. Especially if you have a busy schedule. The 92 micro stories in this book are a great way to read but not have to remember a whole plot. They can easily scratch that itch with out taking a lot of time to consume. The stories range from a little unsettling to down right horrifying. Props to Mclntyre for delivering on the horror.
