My opinion: Montoya pens a fast-paced sequel that starts with a bang and grows from there. The short chapters and multiple POVs make for effortless and quick reading. I applaud Brooke that two of the MCs are written so well that I truly love to hate them. Victoria is a broken yet strong woman who, even though I hate her, I still root for her. She is an exceptional woman to read, and I find her being a female serial killer quite different from the typical serial killer stories. The contrast between the two MMCs also adds intrigue and keeps the reader guessing. I did not appreciate the cursing in this novel (personal preference). I adore that this is a novel/series that is very distinct from any I have read before now. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a thriller with a lot of spice. #bookstagram #arcreader #booklovers #thrillerbooks #booktok #femaleserialkiller
Brooke Montoya’s Night Moves is a masterful sequel to Creep, taking readers on a heart-pounding journey of suspense, personal growth, and inevitable confrontation with the past. This book effortlessly builds upon the foundation laid in the first, propelling Victoria’s story to new emotional and psychological heights. If Creep was a gripping introduction to Victoria’s world, Night Moves is the perfect follow-up, deeper and more intense, with high stakes and a satisfying emotional payoff. Brooke Montoya has once again proven her talent for blending heart-stopping suspense with complex character development. Fans of Creep will not be disappointed, and new readers will be quickly drawn into Victoria’s world of shadowed pasts and brave decisions.
I was genuinely excited for Night Moves to be released, especially after being captivated by Creep and Alicia in the previous book. I was eager to see more of her journey.
What I Loved: Alicia, who also goes by Victoria, had a compelling character arc. I appreciated her development and transformation throughout the story. The scene development was well done, and I always knew where we were in the narrative.
Why 3 Stars? I felt there was potential with the boyfriend's sister that wasn’t fully explored—I was left wanting more clarity on her storyline. Additionally, I would have enjoyed a bit more buildup leading to the twist. The ending left me feeling a bit sad; I craved more depth for both new and old characters. The moons scattered throughout the story were a bit overwhelming for me as well.
Overall, I’m glad I read about Alicia’s resolution and her journey, but I felt there were missed opportunities for deeper exploration. I hope this feedback is helpful, as I’m trying to share my thoughts without giving away any spoilers!
This book was so good I could not put it down! The story of Alicia just keeps getting better. She is such a strong character. There were so many twist and turns that I never saw coming. I can not wait to see what else this author has up her sleeve.
Night Moves is the second book in the Jack Thompson series and it's just as intriguing as it's predecessor, Creep. There is a lot of sex in this book, which isn't something I normally read, but there is a great deal of psychology and suspense too. It"s an easy read without an overly large cast of characters, but the characters are well developed and the settings are well described. It's written in short chapters, compelling the reader to plow through the book voraciously.
My only complaint with Night Moves is the same one I had with Creep. Ms. Montoya needs a professional editor. There were numerous mistakes in this book--rot iron instead of wrought iron, for example--that many readers will be bothered by. Investing in an editor is a necessary cost in order to be taken seriously as an author. The story itself is very interesting, but I had to deduct a star and a half due to too many blatant errors, which makes me sad.
Therapist by day, killer by night—this is excitement by the mile.
Night Moves, the highly anticipated sequel to Creep, can absolutely stand on its own, but readers who experienced the first book will find a deeper, richer thrill ride in this continuation. The story follows Alicia - now going by Victoria (FMC) - as she attempts to rebuild her life in Chicago after fleeing her small-town roots in Oklahoma.
As Victoria steps into her new identity, she’s pulled into a psychological whirlwind of rediscovery and internal conflict. Who is she, really? In her effort to find clarity and close the door on her past, she uncovers far more than she bargained for - revisiting old friendships, strained parental relationships, current romances, and long-buried trauma. Will these revelations destroy the life she’s trying to create - or will they redefine it altogether?
One of Montoya’s strongest talents is her character development. Every figure in this novel is fully realized - complex, flawed, and strikingly human. The emotional vulnerability of these characters makes them incredibly relatable, drawing readers deep into their world. You’re not just following Victoria’s journey; you’re living it with her. The story's moral ambiguity and emotionally layered cast make it impossible to stop reading. My personal motto while devouring this book? "Just one more chapter."
Night Moves is fast-paced, seamless, and cinematic in its storytelling. With psychological depth, vivid imagery, and an intricately woven plot, the tension builds with each scene - leading to gasp-worthy twists and jaw-dropping revelations.
Montoya explores themes of murder, manipulation, dysfunction, and love - delivering a wild ride packed with unexpected turns and unforgettable “WTF” moments. Whether you’re new to Brooke Montoya or a returning fan, this novel delivers a gripping, genre-defying experience that works perfectly as both a sequel and a standalone.
I would like to thank Brooke Montoya for the opportunity to ARC Night Moves. As always, all opinions are of my own volition. I have not been promised any compensation in exchange for my review, present or future by the author.
Night Moves by Brooke Montoya Publication date: February 7th
This is a dark, intoxicating thriller that delves into trauma, survival, and the thin line between victim and predator. This psychological suspense novel follows Victoria, a woman who, after surviving a harrowing week as a captive of a serial killer, reinvents herself to escape public scrutiny. Accused of being an accomplice rather than a victim, she sheds her past, moves to Chicago, and becomes a therapist—while secretly feeding the darkness that lingers within her.
Victoria’s double life as a respected professional by day and a calculated assassin by night is as chilling as it is compelling. She wields power over men, both in her personal life and through her more sinister activities, until she meets Marshal. For the first time, she envisions a future that isn’t ruled by her past. But can she ever truly have a normal life when someone out there knows her secrets and is determined to use them against her?
Montoya masterfully builds suspense with a protagonist who is equal parts fascinating and terrifying. Victoria’s psychological complexity—her struggle with morality, power, and desire—keeps the reader enthralled. The novel’s pacing is razor-sharp, weaving in cryptic messages, escalating tension, and a simmering romance that adds a layer of emotional depth.
Night Moves offers a dark, immersive experience that challenges the boundaries of right and wrong. With its gripping narrative, morally gray protagonist, and relentless suspense, this book will leave readers questioning just how far survival instincts can take someone before they become the very thing they once feared. And, the ending will leave you gasping while you pick your jaw up off the floor.
I was hooked from the first page of ‘Night Moves.’ Brooke Montoya has truly outdone herself with this thrilling installment, which brilliantly builds on the foundation of her previous work, ‘Creep.’ I strongly suggest you read ‘Creep’ first before starting ‘Night Moves.’ You won’t be disappointed, I promise! Readers are captivated by Montoya’s careful and engaging writing style, which creates a vivid and immersive world. I was particularly struck by the character development, especially how Alicia (Victoria) and Jack’s complex flaws and thrillingly chaotic journeys unfolded. Even with all the craziness going on, I was still invested in their dysfunctional relationship. The fact that Montoya can make readers empathize with such morally gray characters speaks volumes about her skill. You can feel the tension and suspense in ‘Night Moves’. Montoya has a talent for developing elaborate plots with unexpected turns that maintain suspense. Each chapter is well-paced, leaving you wanting more without feeling rushed or slow. I often found myself staying up late, unable to put the book down, as I followed Alicia and Jack through their challenges and revelations. More than just a thriller, the narrative powerfully explores the interconnected themes of love and betrayal. Finally, I must say that ‘Night Moves’ has made Brooke Montoya one of my favorite authors. I’m personally hooked on this series and can’t wait to see what she creates next. ‘Creep’ and ‘Night Moves’ are a must-read for those who love a captivating story, blending romance and suspense. Get ready for an unputdownable emotional ride!
Brooke Montoya delivers with ɴɪɢʜᴛ ᴍᴏᴠᴇꜱ, a dark and dangerously addictive thriller romance that had me hooked from the very first book 🅲🆁🅴🅴🅿. This book is a sinister slow burn, dripping with tension, secrets, and a mfc who is equal parts terrifying and irresistible.
The chemistry between the characters? 🔥 LETHAL. The tension? SO THICK you could cut it with a knife. And the plot? Dark, twisty, and utterly intoxicating. Montoya masterfully weaves psychological suspense into the romance, making every interaction feel like a dangerous game where no one truly wins—but oh, how you want them to.
But let’s talk about that 𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝘄𝗶𝘀𝘁. 🅸. 🅳🅸🅳. 🅽🅾🆃. 🆂🅴🅴. 🅸🆃. 🅲🅾🅼🅸🅽🅶
Just when I thought I had everything figured out, Montoya ripped the rug out from under me, leaving my jaw on the floor. And when it hit? 🅳🅴🆅🅰🆂🆃🅰🆃🅸🅽🅶. It changed everything I thought I knew about the characters, their motives, and even the romance itself. This is the kind of twist that makes you want to go back and reread the book just to see all the clues you missed.
The writing? Gorgeous. The atmosphere? Drenched in darkness. And that ending? Absolutely unhinged in the best way. 🫣
If you love books that make you question everything and leave you breathless by the end, ɴɪɢʜᴛ ᴍᴏᴠᴇꜱ is a MUST-READ.
⚠️ TW: This book dives into obsession, control, and some seriously dark themes, so check those triggers before diving in!
✨ Final Verdict: 5/5 Stars – Deliciously dark, sinfully seductive, and completely unforgettable. 🌶️🌶️ 🌶️ 😈
In a riveting follow-up to Creep, Brooke Montoya brings us her follow up book, Night Moves starring Alicia who we last saw after a week long kidnapping as a teenager at the hands of a crazed man named Jack who fled to Mexico after sending Alicia home. As we begin Night Moves, Alicia has moved to Chicago to start her life over, changed her name to Victoria and become a therapist. She has embraced the darkness within herself that Jack awoken and which she believes is in her blood from her imprisoned father. She meets a remarkable man who seems almost too good to be true but she doesn’t think she deserves him with all the darkness that runs through her and her double life. And then there are the mysterious notes and phone calls… somebody knows about her past… but who? The author does a fantastic job with building suspense as well as Victoria/Alicia’s psyche and character development. We really get a good look into her feelings and thoughts. The plot is fun and the chapters are short so the book moves quickly. I loved both Creep and Night Moves and I’ll definitely read more from this author!

I never saw the ENDING Coming!! Blew my mind and honestly couldn’t believe it would happen that way!!!
I read Creep first and that was a gem all by itself. This story follows….Victoria….as she navigates her world post an extremely traumatic event in her life. The twists and turns will have you on your seat until the very last page. The end definitely took me for a loop. Never saw that coming. If you are even a little on the fence about this one, I promise you won’t be disappointed. Amazing work Brooke. Cannot wait to see what keeps coming from that fantastic brain of yours.
Night Moves is the sequel to the Alicia Waters series by Brooke Montoya. This book left me speechless, and I didn't expect the ending. Night Moves is a fast-paced psychological thriller set in Chicago during the winter of 2004. It includes the tropes we've learned to expect and love from this author, including age-gap, serial killer, spicy AF, stalking, and suspenseful. I would highly recommend reading both Creep and Night Moves.
“Night Moves” was the perfect sequel to “Creep” and gave us the follow up we needed on Alicia! The story tells of Alicia’s new life as Victoria in a new city. The twists and turns of the story kept me intrigued and gasping at the turn of events. Brooke gives us a story of darkness, mystery and the right amount of spice. “Night Moves” is fast paced while still portraying Victoria’s growth as she manages to wrestle with hauntings from her past.
I'm not a spicy lover but the storyline of Night Moves kept me engaged so the spice didn't annoy me like it does in some other books. I feel like some authors forget the plot when they try too hard to be spicy. But I was hooked throughout the entire book. I also love the way it was written. I could paint the picture of the scenes in my head so easily!
I give this a 10 out of 5 🌟 stars!! This book I highly recommend. You cannot top of any follow up book like Brooke did here. It is amazing. I picked it up and read it in 48 hours. It is amazing. I think you'll love it too.
Oh my goodness!!! This was such an amazing sequel! I was mad at the ending but it left me wanting more most definitely! Brooke Montoya is such an amazing author! I’m so glad I discovered her!
I rarely ever write reviews, but this one was so bad. Started out good, then got unbearably slow during the middle. Never picked up and could never get into the main character, who has zero redeeming qualities. If I could rate this book a 0 I would.
Holy smokes! The ending though..... it almost had me wanting to smoke a cigarette and drink whisky straight up but I don't smoke or drink lol IYKYK This was really good!
I was so excited for this sequel, and it did not disappoint! I am so glad that I got to go back and visit Alicia and Jack! Wow! What a twist too! Definitely 5 stars.
Wow. I enjoyed Creep so much and I wasn't sure that Night Moves could top it, but it did. I loved this story, the building of it, the pace and the surprises! I have a love/hate relationship with the characters but in the best way possible. I would recommend anyone to read both Creep and Night Moves! I can't wait to read more by Brooke.
I was so excited to read this sequel to Creep and it did not disappoint! Montoya's character development continues to be top-notch, and her short chapters make the story fly by. She is a master of suspense and twists that you will not see coming. I'd recommend this to anyone, and it can totally stand alone if you haven't read Creep (but you should definitely read it too! )
