The Wexton Experiment: Grimoire of Lust: Book I

Rate this book
$100K for a simple study.

I signed up because I was broke.
I didn’t realize I was volunteering for something else entirely.

Wexton University isn’t just elite or secretive.
There is something beneath its polished halls that watches and waits. And whatever it is, it wants me.

When the study shatters into a far darker trial, I’m thrown into a ruthless competition with three teams, deadly challenges, and no escape. Suddenly I’m leading the Red Team, relying on women who are far more dangerous than they pretend to be and just as tempting.

bright smile, hotter passion, the fire that binds us.
sharp wit, irresistible, hiding truth behind every grin.
brilliant, guarded, able to read people too well.
elegance wrapped in danger and temptation.
the masked instructor with authority I feel in my bones.

They want answers.
Wexton wants something else.

And the deeper the trials go, the harder it becomes to tell who is playing the game and who is controlling it. There are locked rooms no one mentions. Whispers of past experiments. And something ancient beneath it all, awake and hungry.

If I rise, I protect the people bound to me.
If I fall, they fall with me.
If I win… I might unleash something far worse.

I never asked for any of this.
But I will face monsters, magic, and gods to protect what’s mine.

The Wexton Experiment features dangerous magic, fierce competitions, rising attraction, and a coven with multiple bonds centered around one male Focal.

This book was a decent surprise. I expected it to be more towards the erotica spectrum based on the title, but it was not that. Where it goes in future books, who knows.

The MC is a guy that has moved to NYC to pursue his dream of being a writer. He sees a flyer to attend a program at a college that will pay $100K for a month's long stay. He's one of the few that get past the interview stage, and off to his month-long, total immersion stay. Little is explained, but they are split into 3 teams. The goal is to develop bonds and find the leaders.

The MC ends up having sex with two different women during the story. There is definitely an element of dual cultivation working here, which is a trope I do not enjoy. The first treats it as a casual thing, and the second does it for the power they will both gain from it. That leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

I will probably read a sequel, as the writing itself was pretty compelling.

Where to start? This is one of those books that take a bit to get into. The POV is from the male character which lends itself to interesting perspectives on relationships. However, if you’re going to write a sex scene, please don’t get all creative with the anatomy, simply call it what it is, there’s no need to call it anything other than it is IMO.
With so many secrets hidden at Wexton, and considering the magical element, I would have liked more magic using rather than the limited amount we get.
