Rate this book
Born into a family blessed by the gods, for years, Non believed she was powerless.

After failing her initiation ceremony, Non is left with nothing. No power, no friends, becoming her family’s greatest disappointment. But one night of heavy drinking and heartbreak changes everything.

Non is thrust back into a world she thought she’d left behind. Forced to reconnect with her estranged grandmother and enter a series of deadly trials to prove her worth as a vassal to the gods, Non discovers that her power is unlike any other. There’s a darkness inside that threatens to consume her.

Not one to do things by halves, Non finds herself drawn to a rival coven’s dangerously charming and very off-limits second-in-command. Will she fall in line and follow the path of light set out by her grandmother? Or will she let darkness prevail?

Inspired by Welsh Mythology and Legends, Daughter of Stone is a story of light/dark magic, found family, and forbidden romance.

Hey! I'm B.A. Pepper, a Welsh Romantasy obsessed reader turned author. I've been writing fantasy stories (aka LOTR fanfic) for as long as I can remember but I didn’t start taking creative writing seriously until I came to study for my Bachelor of Arts.

After graduating I then stopped writing and reading altogether for 8 years to focus on another career. Since the birth of my daughter and starting a Romantasy podcast with my bestie (A Pod of Smut and Wingspan) I started writing again as a creative outlet.

In my spare time I enjoy staying indoors, reading and spending time with my family and our ever growing pack of rescue dogs.

this was a really good time and a unique take on witches. It’s heavy in welsh mythology and tradition so there are a lot of words that I frankly just memorized how they looked but that’s not too new of a concept for me lul. the FMC inner (and outer) dialogue had me giggling or just smiling throughout because she really just says whatever (and we love a fellow yapper). I am excited to read book 2 but I do feel the pacing could’ve used some work - if you are just in for the ride it’s not a big deal but alas it’s hard to turn my brain off.

Updated after my second read:
This book is so captivating and gripping, it almost doesn’t feel like a fantasy because you can imagine the characters and events so vividly. Non, our FMC, is sassy and witty and everything you want in a Romantasy FMC. Representing a plus size queen makes her so realistic.

The plot of this story is fantastic, witches in a modern day setting makes this a new and fun twist on the classic Mabinogion. Inclusive of Welsh language and Welsh mythical creatures like the Mari Llwyd.

The ending of this book will leave you gasping for more, book two cannot come quick enough!

First read review:
How do you put into words the feeling of finishing your best friend’s debut novel? Immensely proud and forever grateful that she trusted me to be the first person to read it ❤️

People will see this review and think it’s a friendship bias, but no, this book is genuinely a 6 star read!!! The Welsh mythology is so well thought out and researched, being a Welsh girly I appreciate the time that went into naming and the funny Welsh nuances we have.

Non as a main character was relatable, funny, real, and came off the page and connected with me as a reader. The gods system and magic system was so interesting to read and honestly I just love anything about witches anyway so this was always going to be a must read for me.

So excited to see where this story goes and get some big questions answered in the next book!!!

Also, now really into blackberries, thanks xoxox

B.A.'s debut novel?! Phenomenal! And that cliffhanger, EXCUSE ME?!! I cannot wait for book 2.

A romantasy with Welsh lore weaved throughout, found family, witches with coven politics, found family, LGBTQIA+ representation, and deadly trials. You will be sucked into this beautiful story and you wont want to put it down. I love in fantasy books when there is a larger underlying secret that the reader doesn't know and the story just feeds you crumbs along the way of unveiling what's to come. B.A. honestly executed this perfectly and had me NEEDING to know more.

Non the FMC is a bit of a wild card, and I love her for that. She's gone through a lot in her life and is grieving a huge loss. B.A. did an incredible job of giving us Non's story and making her relatable and still very resilient. And we love that she is a curvy girl!

I could go on and on. I loved this, I cannot wait for the next book. B.A. thank you so much for allowing me to ARC read for you, it is an honor, and I cannot wait to see where you take this story next.

I was lucky enough to receive an arc copy of this book and honestly can’t believe this is a debut novel! It’s so beautifully written. The world, the characters, the emotions… everything just flowed so naturally.

Non was such a relatable character. Reading her journey felt like listening to a friend share their story, I cared for her like I would someone I know in real life. The writing made me feel so many emotions right alongside her.

The ending broke my heart, but in the best way! It’s one of those stories that lingers with you long after you’ve finished. I already can’t wait to see what B writes next!!

I was very honoured to get the chance to get this as an arc read. It was simply amazing for a debut novel. I loved how the FMC was feisty and also relatable - she felt very real which I loved! The MMC was just 🥵 The way he calls her cariad just makes me melt 🥹 AND there was a f**k it moment 😱 screams!!! The plot was full of twists and turns, love, friendships, betrayals and it kept at a great speed throughout so it kept you hooked. I did not see the ending coming though. I have so many theories and so many questions. Absolutely dying to read book 2!

Daughter of Stone is a fast paced, modern romantasy with Welsh mythology, a funny outcast FMC, covens& witches, light & dark magic, deadly trials, found family, a possessive MMC & LGBTQ+IA rep and I loved every second of it! It's hard to believe this is B.A. Pepper's writing debut because of how fantastic this story is. This is the kind of book that you start and can't put down. You will laugh throughout the entire book, but also find yourself deeply moved by the layered emotional impact woven throughout this story.

-Non is definitely not your typical romantasy FMC, which I absolutely adored. She is funny, relatable, quirky and authentically herself in the best way possible.
-The found family woven throughout this story was heartwarming and you could truly feel the love through the pages.
-The magic system and world were super interesting and unique and the inclusion of Welsh mythology was fantastic. I can't wait to read more about all of this and find out how everyone i
s interconnected and hopefully get some answers to my many questions
in book 2 :)
-The part of this story that moved me the most was Non's journey with grief. I was able to relate to this aspect a lot throughout the entire book and it honestly felt therapeutic to see this type of storyline in a fantasy book. I really can't put into words how much that aspect of Non's journey meant to me and I really feel like I read this story at the right time in my life.

The ending is still diabolical and I can't wait to see what happens!!!!

B.A.Pepper’s debut Romantasy novel is a triumph! She had woven Welsh folklore into a tale of contemporary witches, or wielders, and their five covens. The female main character, Non, has been concealed from their world most of her life, and is thrust back into the world of politics and magic after a mysterious event once more opens the question of whether or not she has magic.

Pepper skillfully pulls you in, dropping clues and false trails. She offers some found family and a forbidden (or is it?) romance, fraught with dangers and obstacles. We have a very conflicted make main character in Dylan, and…I can’t say more without spoilers. Just know there are trials that will keep you on the edge of your seat, twists you won’t anticipate, and questions that will leave you screaming for the next book. Add this to your collection immediately!!!

This is such an amazing debut novel that I was honoured to get the beta read. The mythology and lore is so deep and well thought-out, with a unique twist on magic and lots of creepy Welsh creatures like the Afanc and the Mari Lwyd. It’s so lovely to see our mythology explored in romantasy. Non, the FMC is brave and witty, and has a beautiful character arc, finding confidence in herself as the story progresses, eventually becoming a dagger-wielding badass. The MMC is like a big, burly Viking who is VERY devoted to showing Non a good time — and the spice scenes incorporate magic, which I love!

So grateful to have had the opportunity to read the ARC of this story.
Daughter of Stone is a stellar debut that reads with the confidence of an established series. From the very first chapter, I was swept into a world of contemporary covens, deadly trials, and gods. All of this is underpinned by the richness of Welsh mythology and legend.

We follow Non, a self-confessed hot mess who fails her initiation ceremony and becomes the disappointment of her family. I adored her from the start. She drinks too much, makes terrible choices in men, and blows up the pub she works at, but her relatability is exactly what makes her shine. Non feels like that one chaotic but loveable friend whose story you lean in to hear, and Pepper’s writing makes her journey hit like a gut punch. I cared about her as if she were someone I knew in real life, which made me super invested in her character development - which isn’t something I can often say.

What really sets this book apart is the way Welsh folklore is seamlessly woven into the narrative. The lore isn’t window dressing—it’s alive, vibrant, and central to the trials Non is forced into. There’s also a helpful pronunciation guide at the beginning, which I was very grateful for! The result is a world that feels both deeply mythic and refreshingly modern, with witches (or Wielders) navigating magic, rivalries, and family legacies in a way that feels entirely new.

The family dynamics here are as sharp as the magic. The relationship between Non and her grandmother Bronwen Meredith is particularly fascinating; equal parts toxic, manipulative, and strangely complex. Bron is a powerhouse, a formidable Ledr, and her relentless expectations clash with Non’s chaotic defiance in ways that make every scene between them electric. Their push-and-pull added another layer of tension that was as compelling as any trial or romance.

And then there’s Dylan. Large, tattooed, flirty as hell, and utterly hypnotising. His banter with Non is addictive, his training scenes with her electric, and his “good girl” moment… let’s just say I needed to put the book down to recover. His passion for consent and respect for physical boundaries is written as beautifully as the MMC himself, making his every scene even more compelling. The chemistry sizzles, the tension burns, and the spice? Hot. (I’ll never look at a blackberry the same way again ... and honestly I don’t want to!)

Another strength of this story is that it isn’t a straightforward good vs evil tale or dark vs light. It’s political, messy and tangled in complex generational trauma for most of our characters. Non spends most of the book simply trying to survive, while vital truths are withheld from her. Characters make questionable decisions, alliances blur, and the question of who is foe and who is friend hangs heavy throughout. That uncertainty gave the story teeth and made every twist hit harder.

Pepper also deserves praise for representation. As a curvy woman myself, it was freeing to read an FMC who wasn’t tiny, delicate, or apologetic about her body. Non is plus-sized, powerful, and messy; and she’s loved and desired without compromise. That alone made this book feel groundbreaking. Add in LGBTQIA+ rep and it’s clear Pepper has written a romantasy that reflects the breadth of readers who will pick it up.

From high-stakes trials to forbidden romance, found family, and Easter eggs hidden in every corner, this debut had me hooked. The twists kept me gasping, the emotional beats hit hard, and by the ending I was annihilated. Unfortunately, the final twist and cliffhanger (that literally had me dangling off a cliff) was horrendously brutal. That single “Please forgive me” they muttered, before everything exploded gutted me completely. I have a million theories and questions, which I shamelessly messaged Pepper about and now I’ll be waiting (not so patiently) for them to unfold in the next book.

✨ Some of my favourite quotes ✨

✨“Sucking in a deep breath of crisp morning air, I took a step into the clearing. A step, little did I know, on a path that would change my whole life. Towards a fate I would never be able to outrun.”

✨“Hey, Non. Eyes on me, cariad.”

✨“Good girl...”

✨“You came.” It was all I managed to say.
“Well done for stating the bloody obvious, but now isn’t really the time for small talk.”

✨“Who did it?” he bit out. “Who touched you when you didn’t want to be touched? I noticed the way you flinched the last time we were in this tent, too. Who fucking touched you when you didn’t want to be touched?”
“He’s long gone, ancient history. He’s nothing, really.”
“He will be once I’m done with him.” I didn’t doubt him for a second.

✨“Sometimes the line between friend and foe becomes difficult to see.”

If you love:
🪄 Modern-day witches
🪄 Rivals-to-lovers tension
🪄 Deadly, high-stakes magical trials
🪄 Light vs. dark magic
🪄 Rich Welsh folklore
🪄 Touch-her-and-die energy
🪄 Plus-size FMC & MMC
🪄 Bi-sexual FMC, MMC & non-binary rep

…then this belongs on your TBR. B.A. Pepper has set the bar sky-high with this debut, and I can’t wait to see what she writes next.

It’s so hard to fully describe the joy at reading actual Welsh names, words and phrases in a fantasy world, as a Welsh learner it was really interesting learning some meanings and recognising things! The plot was great and I did not see the ending coming at all, very excited for the next one already.

Non was a relatable character too because she doesn’t just end up in a magical world and suddenly get great at fighting and everything, there’s still a lot of doubt, and reminders that she was just a normal girl literally weeks ago.

Really grateful for the chance to read this ARC, it was so much more than a fantasy story with the Welsh mythology woven in and exciting trials taking place, can’t wait to read more!!

I’m honoured to have been able to read this before release date. A fellow Welshy and a Meredith, not to mention the ability to be able to read all the words without google. I am biased from the get go. Another silent fist pump to the Welsh community.
Aside from my slight bias the characters, the gripping story line, an MMC making you weak at the knees, he can call me “cariad” any day of the week and finally an ending which will have you begging for the next book. I am so proud. I won’t delve into any spoilers, I’ll let you enter the witching Welsh world for yourself.
Well done B, you have entered the literary world on such a high.

I love all the Welsh history, language, and names in this story!
Our FMC has always thought she was powerless, living a totally boring life. However, a sudden event suddenly leaves her coven leader grandma to come and retrieve her because maybe she is more than they all thought all along.
She is then forced into a life she knows nothing about, was never taught, and is completely alone with no real friends of her own. Sure there are people left that insert themselves into her life, but are they really her friends?
I loved the trial aspect of this story because seeing her train and attempt to master the power that has been suppressed for years is so rewarding. There is so much animosity between the covens and the contestants that gives a whole other level to the intensity of this book. I won't lie, the ending had me gasping out loud and demanding book 2 immediately!

Daughter of Stone is a debut story that pulls readers into a richly imagined world inspired by Welsh mythology. Non’s journey from outcast to reluctant contender in a modern world of gods, covens, and dark magic is both emotionally grounded and action-packed. The trials are high-stakes, the magic system intriguing, and the relationships layered with a dynamic representation of the world today.

The twist in the final chapter definitely caught my attention and left me asking all the right questions about what’s to come. I enjoyed the Welsh witch world and give a solid nod to the author on her debut novel. Looking forward to seeing where the series goes next!

"Eyes on me, cariad," 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤

Absolutely blown away by this debut novel , from the first chapter I was hooked because who doesn’t love rivals to lovers .
Modern day witches and a brilliant spin on the Mabinogion tales I was told as a child .
Feisty FMC and a drool worthy MMC and a few side characters I would happily boot into a lake 👀👀 looking at you Granny.

The ending has left me with more question and eagerly awaiting book 2 .

I have been (im)patiently waiting for a copy of B.A. Pepper’s debut novel, Daughter of Stone, for months now and when I finally got to read it this week it did not disappoint. This is 100% one you need to add to your TBR immediately!

Daughter of Stone follows FMC Non as she embarks on a journey to discover more about her powers, her family, and the magical world she belongs in. She meets Dylan, the MMC of all of our dreams, and Jazz, the friend we all desperately want.

The story is full of Welsh mythology with secrets to uncover, relationships to explore and trials, twists and turns that will you keep you hooked until the very last page.

You can really tell how much heart and soul has gone in to creating this story. The world building is incredible, the characters are all beautifully developed and the plot, while it does have elements we’ve seen in other books (eg trials), it feels so different to anything I’ve read before. A completely fresh and unique story.

I knew I was going to love this book from the first time I read the blurb, but I can honestly say that it blew my expectations out of the water. The worldbuilding and lore is expertly crafted, and if I didn't know this was a debut I don't think I would've believed it. For me, seeing Welsh culture represented in such a fantastic way was a wonderful experience, and I adored the hints to folklore from The Mabinogion. I've never read a fantasy book set in Wales, and this book now has my whole heart.

Non, our FMC, is a wonderful character. We get to see her journey of self discovery and healing, and her character growth is fantastic. She is fierce and brave and sassy, and everything I would want to be. I also love to see a plus size FMC written that is just made to feel NORMAL, rather than feeling like it's added for inclusivity sake alone.

Dylan, our MMC, is handsome, kind and all around delicious. I loved reading how kind and respectful he is to Non, and it's so interesting to learn about his complicated past and motivations. I also really enjoyed his relationship with Zenn - I'm very excited to find out more about him as we get further into this series.

I have to give a shout out to Jazz, a side character that is written so well that they just jump off the page. I could read a whole book focused on them - I am desperate to know more. The ending of this book absolutely floored me, and without adding spoilers, I'll just say that I was speechless. I cannot wait to get to book two!! If this isn't already on your TBR, this is your sign!

Thank you to the author for the gifted review copy

For a debut, this book is beautifully written, it's sharp, vivid, and so easy to fall into.

The magic system hooked me immediately, I loved the colour-coded witch covens and how everything tied together without ever feeling confusing. It was layered, unique, and just made the whole world pop off the page in the best way. The trials were brutal and brilliant, and I couldn’t stop turning the pages.

Non is the kind of heroine you root for instantly. She’s clever, sassy, and I just know that once she taps into her full power, hell itself won’t be ready for her. I can’t wait for that moment. Dylan has that full-on Viking badass energy, but what really got me was his mysterious past and the current mess he’s entangled in with a certain character who, let’s be real, nobody’s going to like. I need more of that storyline immediately.

There are also a lot of interesting side characters. Some of them I wanted to push straight into a pit, no hesitation. But a few others had me fascinated enough to hope they take up more page space in book two. And that ending… rude. Excuse me while I start plotting how to time travel to the release of book two.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read and review your book. These are my honest thoughts.
September 2, 2025
✨ Don’t mind me just stuck on the last page, peaking behind the “the end” for the foreseeable future and looking for more because WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE END?? No—no I need more. More Non. More Jazz. More Dylan. More Zenn. ✨

Even gods help me more BRONIE.—actually maybe granny dearest can stay in the first book. (Nah I’d miss the sass Non gives her too much).

🖤 But seriously—this book, much like Non’s first few weeks at Llwyn Onn, felt like a dream. One that I quite frankly never wanted to wake up from nor put down. I devoured this book in three sittings and felt like my heart was racing at points. (Especially as I saw that percentage creeping closer and closer to the end and knew I was going to have to wait for more.) The way the magic worked, the mythology, the world. Everything about this book seemed to grip its claws into me and tug. 💜

✨ 🗡️ The pacing was amazing. The way Non was a sassy fmc and didn’t care to keep her thoughts or mouth to herself had me living. I loved her weapons. The banter. The verbal sparring. The actual sparring. All the blood—even if it was Non who broke her nose how many times? Sorry Non…The way her own magic was almost a sentient thing of itself. ✨

✨ This debut book didn’t even feel like reading, I felt like I was watching a movie as I followed along. The way I felt like I was immersed in the world and right there with Non and Jazz and Dylan and all the others throughout the story was honestly so freaking refreshing. ⚔️

“The Afanc could have resurrected and ripped my head off, and I still would have died a happy man. This was everything.”—Dylan 🥵 The f**k it moment, the “good girl”, THE MAGIC INCLUSION MOMENT 🥵 💦 Yes please, and thank YOU, Cariad.

❤️ "I'm on whatever side keeps you alive, Non. Believe it or not, in the short time we've known each other, you've come to mean a great deal to me."—Jazz the friend I could only hope to have if I ever got thrown into half of the things Non does—where do I find me a friend like them? Please and thank you.

I seriously cannot wait to read book two and find out what happens after THAT ending. Because my gods. I didn’t see it coming and I was not prepared.

If you love books with:
✨ Magic
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Welsh mythology
⚔️ Deadly trials
🖤 Light & Dark magic
🏳️‍🌈 Bi-Sexual FMC, MMC & Non-Binary Rep
💜 Plus size FMC and MMC
🗡️ Touch her and ☠️ vibes

Then this book is absolutely for you and you should add this to your tbr or go pick it up right now depending on when you’re reading this. I promise it will not disappoint. I’ll never look at blackberries the same way ever again and I THANK YOU.

And while I did receive this book for free to read my opinion and love on it are wholly based on the amazing way in which it was written. My love for this story is so very real it’s as if the magic from the pages lives in my heart now.

Wow. Just wow. Reading this book was an experience. It was effortless, it was so smooth and enjoyable. I could hardly focus at work because all I wanted to do was read this book. It even followed me into my dreams one night.

This book follows our main character, Non, and her struggles of being a powerless witch. Or so she thought. Years after her grandmother tested her magic and left her behind to be normal, Non's magic emerges and she is suddenly swept up into the life she thought she'd never had. But now shes kept like a dirty secret until it all comes tumbling out and she finds herself thrust into trials to become a vassal for the Gods. Along the way she makes friends with grandmother approved friends and some not so approved.

My first praise is a huge thank you to the pronunciation guide at the begining! I struggle in fantasy woth my dyslexia but it would have been 10 times worse without the guide. I especially love that theres a tip before the guide to help sound things out. Amazing!

But honestly, I could not stop reading or thinking about this book. I loved the duel POV and learning more about the world with every page. There is tension, banter, love, lust, discoveries at every turn. If you ask me what I love about, all I can say is everything.

If you want an MFC that struggles through family trauma and drama, who learns to like herself through the book, who creates a family of friends as she navigates her magic and trials, then pick this up!!

I will spend the rest of days recommending this book to everyone who asks. And then I will apologize for fact that book 2 isn't out until May of next year.

Where to begin? I was blessed to read this as an ARC reader & honestly I'm speechless but in the most positive of ways.

This right here is why I support indie authors. The underdogs of mainstream publishing. They are so worth the chance.

Reading this felt like I was reading the book of someone who had multiple books under their belt. Not it being their debut novel. Characters were relatable and realistic, description of scenery and mythical creatures left me in awe and shocked at the same time.

This book is based on Welsh mythology, and honestly you don't have to be an expert to appreciate the lore that is beautifully and creatively woven in this story. I say this because I'm not an expert on Welsh mythology and reading this has left me wanting more.

Now onto our main character Non. A plus size, sassy baddie that grows into her power. Not always for the right reasons but they are realistic in terms of wanting to please family member or wanting to prove them wrong. But B also makes her relatable in how she handles life and her feelings, sometimes humour, sometimes sassy and like most of when we don't want others beings knowing; crying behind closed doors. This made me feel very seen in many ways.

Throughout the book, I was rooting for Non to stick it to her Granny and any other douche canoe that came along and tried to hurt her in the claim of: it's what's best right now.
I wanted to hug Non and cry with her when things became hard and having things thrown in her face for something she had no control over.

Dylan and Jazz provide great support for Non and I was happy to see her finally venture into making new relationships and feeling worthy of friends and possibly more in matters of the heart. Our girl needs some happiness.

The tension between Dylan and Non was incredible and had me on the edge of my seat grumbling for them to get it over with and play adult twister, that when we finally got that scene I was kicking my legs and squealing like a school girl. Though honestly blackberries and water magic may never be looked in the same light again, no complaints.

Then to top it off, the ending. What a cliffhanger?! I didn't notice expect it pan out the way it did and if it wasn't for the fact that kindles are costly, I would have thrown mine across the room in shock. I was left gagged, gooped and shooketh to say the least.

All that being said I'm so eager for the release of this book so that others could see why I loved this it so much. But I'm also already on the bandwagon of wanting the next book. So please don't leave us hanging too long B, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!

Thanks for letting me have this amazing opportunity to read your first creative baby. You've smashed it out of the park 🤍

4⭐️ thank you so much to B.A Pepper for sending this arc my way! This was such a fun read, I went in completely blind knowing almost nothing about this story and I absolutely LOVED IT! We are following Non, who is part of a family of magic wielders. Whoever, she cast away because she can’t wield any magic on her own but something VERY UNEXPECTED happens and her grand mother - who is the clan chief of their region takes her back to their people and tells her that she actually can wield magic but has to train who her cousin - who’s basically the biggest bitch on this earth.

My only litte side note is that I had a tiny hard time remembering what the words meant and I had to go back a couple of times to the glossary but thats just a me and my brain problem. I really really REALLY hope audiobooks for this series will be an option for the future because THIS STORY WAS SO GOOD and I just know I’ll ear read then again with proper pronunciation!

okay now lets talk about our MC’s. I absolutely adores Non. She was dealing with so much depression and had such a hard life - it felt healing seeing her grow throughout this book and see her thrive when finding her people. Our MMC Dylan was such a teddy bear who’d unalive ANYONE who dare touch her. Their chemistry was sooooooo good and I just know there is so much more to the thread that links their life💜

Ending? TERRIFYING, I NEED BOOK2 NOW.

4 stars!
So grateful that I was able to get an early ARC of Daughter of Stone. I really enjoyed this book from the first page and it was such an easy read. It was simple to follow yet had a captivating storyline. A really strong debut novel!

It had everything you’d expect in a romantasy - the magic, the trials, the MMC to swoon for!

The Welsh representation was a breath of fresh air - I loved seeing my native language and country’s myths written into this story. It was awesome! I may be biased because I’m Welsh but I thought it was really unique.
Lots of plot lines which kept you guessing and the ending OMG! The characters were likeable and I am really invested in Dylan and Non, I can’t wait to see where they end up. Side characters were also interesting and I’m looking forward to some more character building in later books (no spoilers!)

Can’t wait for book 2 and to see how their story progresses and find out more about what’s going on!!

Holy F that ending! how can you leave me hanging like that! Unfair. Torturous. Cruel...

Now that I have that out of my system.
I was lucky enough to get this as an arc so I feel like I should review properly for once. I thought this was going to be a solid 4 ⭐ but that ending! Had to bump it up.
If you ever look at my book lists you will see I'm not a bit romantasy reader and intact quite the opposite so I thought it would be interesting to review.
Generally speaking romance in books makes my eyes roll so hard I get eye strain... I can't fantasize about those red flags and cringe terms sorry guys 🤷🏻‍♀️ this book had neither, well maybe Dylan had one red flag but it wasn't CNC... this guy knows that enthusiastic concent is sexy as hell 😍
that being said I still don't particularly enjoy spice myself (no shade to those that do, just not my thing) there was plenty of plot to keep me happy, well developed, the characters are interesting and diverse and I definitely want to know what's coming next! As for all the Welsh bits.. there isn't an overwhelming amount that you wouldn't be able to understand if you don't speak any Welsh (it's me hi, I'm the problem it's me)
but it's nice to have Welsh in as it feels more immersive and less like it could be set in *insert any location* ..... however despite living in Wales I can not speak Welsh so all those names and words became ndhdhaj to me which made it less immersive. The author is smart enough to know there is people like me and included pronunciations at the start of the book which when I buy the paperback I will print those of and make a bookmark with it so they are always available without flipping back and forth. And yes I will buy the paperback because I enjoyed it enough to want a trophy and what a pretty trophy it will be 💖

WOW! I don't even know where to start - this was not what I was expecting at all, I loved how the story began in an urban setting and the modern themes continued through out, I loved the incorporation of welsh mythology, this isn't something I've come across before - the glossary and pronunciation guide were so helpful.

I adored Non and Dylan's characters fromt he get go, Non a very lonely young women who finally finds herself and comes into her own, discovering she holds power she didn't think she had, constantly proving her worth, facing loads of challenges. But who is Non and what does her power mean?

B.A Pepper has done a fantastic job with this debut romantasy novel, I have absolutely adored reading it and after the gut wrenching cliffhanger she has bestowed upon us I'll be eagerly awaiting the release of Book 2.

3.75⭐️ Thank you so much to B. A. Pepper for allowing me to read an ARC of this book!

I loved the world that this was set in and I’d been craving a good witchy book 🤭 Non was a great FMC and I loved all of the characters!

The plot is definitely fast paced and the cliffhanger at the end was fab. I’d had a little suspicion about one or two characters being a little off and it turns out I was right!

Personally I love a slow burn and enemies to lovers vibe so I would’ve loved more of this when Non/Dylan first met rather than an immediate attraction/lust but that’s just my preference. Sometimes the pacing seemed super fast but again, it just comes down to preference!

Looking forward to book 2 🥰

Daughter of Stone is B.A. Pepper’s debut Romantasy novel, set in the modern world and woven with Welsh mythology. It brings together some of our favourite tropes - rivals to lovers, deadly trials, witches, found family, and a special kind of water magic (IYKYK).

We meet Non, our FMC. She is a little older than most FMCs, curvier, fiesty, and a little messy - she's just doing her best, and honestly, it feels so refreshing to read. Dylan, our MMC, definitely earns his place too (just wait till you see the art! 🔥)

Thank you to B.A. Pepper for the ARC 💜

Daughter Of Stone is a romantasy filled with Welsh lore, found family and just the right amount of danger and heart. The world feels lived-in and magical without ever being overwhelming (you can tell how much care went into the details) That ending?? I’m not over it. I closed the book and just sat there like… excuse me??

The main FMC Non was such a standout for me. She’s strong but messy and vulnerable in a way that makes her feel human, her resilience makes you root for her so hard. I loved seeing this representation woven in a natural way.

This was such a fun, emotional ride and I cannot wait to see what happens next. Huge thank-you to the B.A. Pepper for letting me read an early copy! I’m so excited for everyone else to dive into this one!

I have been waiting for this ARC from the author and it did NOT disappoint!!!
I love all the Welsh phrases used in it (even though I am no a Welsh speaker) the way he calls her 'cariad' and the 'fuck it' moment...SWOON!!

The ending had such a twist that I did not expect and it left me needing to know what happens next!!!! It's an amazing debut book and I cannot wait for the next one!!

This will be a romantasy readers next obsession!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I received an ARC of B’s debut novel, Daughter of Stone and after months of waiting it did not disappoint!

This book has everything!
🪄 modern day witches
🪄 rivals to lovers
🪄 high stakes trials
🪄 light & dark magic
🪄 LGBTQIA+ representation

We meet Non at a very relatable time of her life - she’s lost her best friend, accidentally blown up the shit pub she works out and found out the boy she’s seeing is a douchebag. On top of that, Non’s Granny is insisting she’s a magic wielding witch and has basically thrown her into a deadly trial to prove her worth.

Enter Dylan - second-in-command of a rival clan (who I’m picturing as a younger, taller, tattooed version of Jamie from Outlander). Dylan immediately gives Non the ‘eyes on me’ and starts training her to survive the trials. Yummy.

I won’t say anything more because I want you to enjoy the twists and turns (some of which had me gasping)

This was a stunning debut novel and I can’t wait to see what Book 2 brings!
