This book is for the old SAT, which was given for the last time in January of 2016. If you will be taking the SAT after that date, the book you want is also available on Amazon. Search for it by its ISBN 9781523963577.
PWN the Math Guide was created to help ambitious, highly motivated kids maximize their SAT math scores. Do you crave a higher score? Are you willing to do a little hard work to achieve it? Good. I knew I liked you.
Read this book from beginning to end, with a pencil in hand and a calculator and an Official SAT Study Guide (AKA Blue Book) by your side. When you're done, you'll be able to approach the SAT with confidence--very few questions will surprise you, and even fewer will be able to withstand your withering attacks.
Mike McClenathan used to wish he was a natural born athlete instead of a natural born test taker, but over the years he has learned to embrace his nerdy superpower. He was the valedictorian of his high school class, and graduated from Brown University in 2003. He uses his 2400-scoring skills to help kids in the NYC Metro area prepare for the SAT, and blogs about SAT prep at PWNtheSAT.com.
Got this book today. It looks great! Hoping to begin working through it with my son this weekend. Will post a full review within a couple of weeks.
All I can say is WOW! This book is full of wonderful information on how to successfully prepare for the SAT.
Mike does a wonderful job of not only giving examples of math problems, but also showing how to work each problem out long-hand. Mike also offers tips on whether you should guess on questions you do not understand and techniques to help eliminate wrong answers to your guesses.
For anyone who is preparing to take the SAT test, this guide will help you successfully complete the math portion of the test.
I read through the introduction of this book and already, I found myself giggling and smiling constantly since the very beginning; it is very captivating and will keep you very engaged. I have decided to read this book thoroughly when I get a hold of the other SAT Prep book mentioned in the book to enhance my experience and my own understanding for this subject to get a better and higher score than my first try last Spring. I hope, with the guide of this book given by the author himself, that I can see a big difference in my SAT math score next month. I am so thrilled to have this handy-dandy book to guide me step-by-step to reaching my perfect dream score.
As a homeschool mom I love anything that will help my kids learn. PWN the SAT is wonderful! When I first got it and started reading it, I enjoyed the engaging writing style. The author comes across as someone who has been thru the SAT and is trying to make the endeavor as painless as possible.
When my daughter saw me with a SAT prep book, I got the typical "Oh, NO!", that you'd expect from a teen who thinks studying is UN-cool! But when it came time for her to sit down and read the book herself, she thought it was great! She's went thru it on her own and it has helped ease her anxiety about the upcoming test.
An excellent study aid for SAT and even ACT math sections!
I was selected to receive this book as a giveaway from Goodreads.
Won this book in a goodreads giveaway a while ago, but opened it up a few weeks ago again to begin preparing for my first SAT. If I hadn't received it through the giveaway, I definitely would have purchased it from my local bookstore. The explanations are clear and concise; I had no difficulty understanding the concepts being introduced in the book. The practice problems are helpful to practice the various topics covered. I feel that it did improve my math skills and that my SAT score will go up as a result.
I received this book free from a Goodreads First Reads giveaway. I'm not completely finished with this book; it's kind of long. But I loved it from the very beginning! I had been so worried about my SAT, especially the math portion. This book gives great tips, not just with math but also with general test-taking. I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting help preparing for the SAT or any other general math test.
I have never come across a math book that was this clear before. Everything is explained, including an outline of what you are expected to know before you start using the SAT prep book. There is a good chance I will do the exercises even though I am not going to take the SAT, just to reawaken my math skills. With this book it's kind of fun. I cannot give any information on scores achieved after using this book. But it looks excellent to me.
Excellent SAT preparation combined with a sense of humor. What more could aspiring college applicants ask for? Works best when used in conjunction with College Board materials, but worthwhile on its own as well. McClenathan leaves the college test prep companies in the dust, and is way more amusing.
This book is great and easy to follow and learn from. I am a math tutor and this book has been a great tool for helping my students prepare for their tests.
I won this in a goodreads giveaway (shamefully a long time ago....)
Ended up not actually reading this book because I registered for a tuition course outside school, and I did pretty much all of my math prep there instead. This book seems very interesting, though, and the explanations and funny comments makes the textbook fun to glance through.
