Six witnesses ... One deadly fall. No one will ever be the same. Football jock Marcus Wilson had big plans for winter break, and they didn't include being stuck in a cabin at some bogus camp. But, when Marcus' temper explodes, he's forced to do just that. Camping with a neurotic gamer, a reclusive goth, a pathological liar, and an aspiring drummer is bad enough, but he also has the misfortune of dealing with some wanna-be hero who's hell-bent on "saving" him. So, Marcus does what any rational person would do and makes a run for it, only to find himself dangling above a chasm with no ground in sight. Now his survival rests in the hands of the very people he bailed on. Will Marcus live long enough to regret the way he treated them? What secrets await at the bottom of the chasm?

This was easily the best book I've read in a long time. Amanda Washington hit the nail on the head in understanding the youth today, and this is coming from a freshman in high school. I was easily able to relate to every one of the characters, and I couldn't put the book down from the time I picked it up. If I could give it more then 5 stars I would. Once again, coming from a freshman in high school, this is an absolutely amazing book.

I was very impressed with the book. I thought the story was great, and even though I am over 60, I am eager to read the rest of the series. I also think this could be an awesome tool in helping young people navigate through some of the trials and trauma that they may have to deal with in their lives. It is a great place to find hope when you don't see yourself as perfect and loveable. You go girl!!!

Set in Washington State this contemporary christian novel for teens takes the broken lives of 5 teens and throws them together for a winter camp retreat. All 5 are struggling with their own issues in their families, with themselves, and none of them know the power of Christ. James is the pastor that leads them through their week of 'camp', bringing them closer to one another and to the One who can heal the broken.
I would say that the audience that will best enjoy this will be school students rather than homeschoolers. I think that they will be able to relate a little bit better to the dynamics of the group and they are exposed to more of the things that happen at school.
The message of Christ dieing on the cross for the sins at all is not preaching or overwhelming to an unbeliever. It is clear and deliberate and I think it would be a great book for Christians to give to their unsaved teen friends.
Fantastic first novel and I look forward to the next one.

OH MY GOSH! THIS WAS AMAZING! so REAL! so heartfelt! so much emotion! the depth of each character was spot on! The faith and grace in this book is phenomenal! The way God is introduced to this group of "outcasts" is great! it even spoke to me! even the Pastor shows he is human, and is in need of God's saving grace! so much LOVE, FAITH and GRACE in this book! written extremely well! Amanda really gets you inside each of the characters heads and hearts, and they are so real too! An amazing story!I know I said it already but so worth saying again!

I loved this book so much! I cannot wait to read it and share it with my kids!

I loved this book from start to finish. I can hardly wait for the sequel! The characters are all very different and have so much personality that I found myself really caring about them and wanting to know more. Every one of them is going through some difficult times, but with the support of each other they're learning that friends and faith can get them through anything.

This is a powerful book with a spiritual slant. I don't want to describe too much of the plot, for the risk of spoiling it. It is suspenseful and an intricate look at what a young person can endure. This is a highly recommended read. My edition has the Book II fall preview, and it was also highly worthwhile, with a focus on characterization.
