Devious Conquests

She’ll be his greatest conquest

The vampire Ralekin desires Abrial from the moment he learns of the celestial nymph’s upcoming transfer. If he, a dark being, manages to bed such a rare creature, it will solidify his reputation as the university’s greatest seducer and provide an amusing diversion for the summer. What else is he to do, considering his sire has spellbound Ralekin to the Isle of Costestrar until he graduates?

To make the chase more interesting, Ralekin strikes a bet with his witch friend, Kitanya, raising the stakes and entangling more than one innocent in his scheme. It’s all a game to the devious vampire and nothing will get in his way of capturing the prize.

With a delectable conquest on the horizon, matters for Ralekin are looking decidedly up. But the arrogant young vampire could discover that he’s greatly underestimating his prey, just as he fails to consider that hearts may be on the line.

Even his.

Devious Conquests is a Romantasy retelling of Dangerous Liaisons.

**Please note - This story is told in third person and some parts are lightly satirical.

Una Rohr spends her free time reveling in fantasy. Nothing snaps her attention like a dominant male in single-minded pursuit of a headstrong female -- except when those same lovers initially despise one another. She reads and writes these angst-filled pairings (and their happy endings) from the East Coast of the U.S.

Romance? Dark. Characters? Gray. Cheeks? Flushed pink as you read, I hope.

Didn't Austen say something like, "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a dominant man in possession of a powerful will, must be in want of a brat." (Or did I get that wrong? ;)

Changing for you by MeemsAngel82

Well this is certainly and unique take on romance! The story does follow the movie Cruel Intentions but with a more dark twist. He does what he needs to in order to have something he thought he wanted. Not a character I liked at first but he finally becomes a good being after being around his one. This was well written and an interesting take on this movie.

He thought he wanted a witch and made a bet with her. He hurt people along the way and so did she, but he changed with his h for the better.

He was a terrible being at first. I'll never appreciate what he did with a character that was innocent and also with the interactions he had with the witch. The witch only loved herself and not even, I was shocked in the end she seemed to end up happy, something she didn't deserve. I wish he had more scenes with his love getting to know her earlier on to form more of a connection. And the girl that both he and the witch used didn't have a resolution, but at least was smarter after dealing with those two. I can't say I understand the witch but I appreciate that the male lead changed for the better. I knew going in that there would be things between him and other females but still, I would have preferred him not doing those things and developing his connection to the h more. A clever rendition of a popular movie with entertaining magical beings.

ARC review, all opinions are my own

What a fun story that doesn't take itself too seriously and is entertaining from beginning to end! I loved watching our MMC go from horrible seducer to groveling at the feet of the woman he loves (and really, who doesn't love it when an mmc is pathetically in love?). The world is charming and honestly I'd love to see more of it-- there is certainly spinoff material here (Kitanya 👀) that I'd love to see explored.

I'd certainly recommend this to anyone who loves romantasy; the somewhat-satirical takes on tropes were wildly entertaining. Overall a great read that's a perfect palette cleanser between heavier books or for anyone just looking for a good time.

Oooh, I did love this book! Cruel Intentions meets Fantasy. Say no more.

Ralekin and Kitanya were brilliant POVs. Both were so vain and arrogantly devious. Both sexually charged but impassively cold. I enjoyed discovering their backstories and why they acted in the way they did.

For a shorter story and with multiple magical species, the world building was brilliant and intriguing. The ending was just perfect for both MCs. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a spicy fantasy with darker, devious themes.

Besides being an obvious supernatural adaptation of Dangerous Liasons, Devious Conquests offers a glimpse into another world. It is definitely a riveting book.
Ralekin and Kitanya’s bet is truly devious. You know there will be lots of tears and deception but the journey is worth it.
I liked the little twists and turns. The ending was surprising, too. I give it 4 stars.

Want a book that is enjoyable and somewhat satirical, and just honestly fun to read? This book is the one. Short enough to really enjoy over the weekend and fun enough to keep you locked in until the end. This was a great little story. I hope to see more,

I've enjoyed this read a lot. It gave me what I was vowed to: a curious but worthy romantasy. The world is charming here: just said.
