In this dark and thrilling prequel, in a time before Beatrice, before the all-out war between the Dreamcatchers and the Seers, before the Keeper became the Keeper...there was just Danielle...
Yesterday, Danielle was only a Seer, but when the Institution is attacked, Danielle suddenly finds herself wearing the red robes of the Keeper, a role she never expected to serve. As she struggles to come to terms with the brutal facts behind the attack and the demands that her position carries, she learns that leadership doesn't come without sacrifice. As the danger continues to grow, Danielle must make the choice between the man she loves and those whom she is sworn to protect. But in making the choice, Danielle could make the biggest sacrifice of all.
Stephanie Thomas has been writing ever since she could put letters together to form words. When she was a small child, she would present her mother and father with self-made newspapers filled up with make believe stories and pictures. Her love for writing followed her all throughout her schooling, where she entered and won writing contests of all sorts. Stephanie decided to become an English teacher and completed her B.A. at The Pennsylvania State University. While teaching, she later went on to get her Master’s in writing from The Johns Hopkins University. She completed her very first manuscript during her graduate studies, and by the end of the program, she had completed two more.
Stephanie is quick to tell anyone that she’s a born and raised Philadelphian, and her heart will always belong there. She moved to Baltimore with her husband, and they’ve been living there for the last five years with their doggie, Sailor, and their rabbit, Buns (aka “T Sizzle).
I hated The Keeper (Danielle) sooo much in LUMINOSITY she was an evil bitch but, this definitely makes me think about some things! The writing is dark and I adore Stephanie's world building!!
I have received an ARC copy of this novella in exchange for an honest review.
First of all I'd like to apologize to Stephanie for taking so long for me read and review. I feel like a terrible member of your street team since you sent this to me a while ago. I'll blame myself for suckage. Anyway on to the review~!

"I am thinking of dropping him, regardless of his begging, and leaving him to fall and fall and fall until there's nowhere else for him to go."
Well then. The Keeper was something else. She was hurt, yet ruthless and cruel. She fought any sign of defiance with overwhelming violence. She planned to rule with an iron fist, all the while hungering for her lost love.
I found The Keeper's story intriguing. To see her view of betrayal. I was interested in the way she never questioned her actions. Thought about if violence was the correct route. She just went with it and dragged everyone else along. She was swift and merciless. It was different to read and quite enjoyable.
This novella also showed a bit more of the Dreamcatchers. I won't spoil anything but it raised quite a few questions for their motives and what Beatrix may run across in the sequel to Luminosity. I think that book will have all of my answers that I'm craving. It definitely has the makings of treading that fine line where both sides aren't good or evil. I love it. This novella definitely makes me excited for the sequel.
All in all, it's a prequel novella so it was pretty short but still a fun ride. It was an easy read and Stephanie has such an easy flow. I match paces so easily. It helped me rejuvenate my love for this series. A few parts were predictable but several others just blew me away. I really enjoyed seeing The Keeper's thoughts and actions up close. I shall eagerly await more from the lovely Stephanie Thomas~!
The time where your first true vision comes, that's when you earn your Ravens Wings. Danielle never thought she would become the next keeper or that her decisions will determine everything for the institution.
Danielle is torn between her duties and her love for someone that betrayed her and the institution, but there's a much bigger plan in the midst of a revolution between the institution and the dreamcatchers & seers.
Will Danielle choose love over duties or duties over love?
Or will Love be the weakness?
The Keeper is where the beginning of a revolution started, Danielle must do what she thinks is right and for the sake of the Seers safely and to maintain a peace and power over the citizens, dreamcatchers and forthcoming Seers
I really love when authors dig in the past/the backstory of how things happen to why things happens that chang. Stephanie created The Keeper as a light/dark and edgy story, that it gets five Cat's Tails UP.
1. I do not like prequels. 2. I do not like novellas due to their short lengths.
But this novella is awesome and it might be changing my opinions. This story packs a punch and I really enjoyed reading it. It has the emotional satisfaction of a novel despite being short. It's quick and to-the-point with awesome events that aren't expected. I need to re-read Luminosity now that I know more about this world! I'm so happy to have read this and I can't wait for book two of the series at the end of the summer. I really love this whole world and the characters in it! I much prefer this series over some of the other dystopian novels that are out there. If anyone is wondering, I do recommend reading this after Luminosity, so that you know the world before diving in since it doesn't do any explaining - it jumps right into the action.
