Born into adversity, Calliyah’s life takes an unexpected turn when Fate intervenes, guiding her away from the confines of her provincial village and propelling her towards a destiny she never could have imagined. As she journeys through the Five Kingdoms, each year brings new challenges, opportunities, and friendships that shape her in ways no one could have foreseen.

Unbeknownst to Calliyah, her path is intricately linked to the future of the diverse peoples inhabiting the Five Kingdoms, a future threatened by a vicious, brutal, and ancient enemy. As the gravity of her role becomes clear, Calliyah finds herself at the epicenter of a struggle that will determine the fate of the entire world she knows.

But Calliyah’s destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a carefully crafted plan, mapped out by the Goddess herself. As Calliyah navigates the twists and turns of her journey, she must learn to embrace her true purpose and rise to the challenges that await her, for the sake of all those who depend on her courage and determination.

About the author

Gary Maile

1 book3 followers
Gary Maile lives in Kent with his wife, Carolyn, and three cats. The eldest of three sons, Gary's vivid imagination was fostered by the works of H.G. Wells and Charles Dickens, which his parents purchased when he was ten years old. An avid reader of science fiction and fantasy since his teenage years, Gary would like nothing more than to live in a world of ancient walled cities and dragons. As that wasn't likely to happen during his lifetime, Gary decided to create his own world that, unsurprisingly, is full of ancient walled cities and dragons.

I have read lots of fantasy books by many authors such as David & Leigh Eddings, Terry Goodkind and Anne McCaffrey. And I have to say, I think this book is excellent and hard to believe it's the author's first book!

A lot of fantasy books struggle with pace, they sometimes get bogged down in philosophical ponderings or you feel like you are getting a lecture from the author on how high his/her I.Q is. This is not the case with Mr Maile's first foray into writing a book. It is well paced from the very beginning and you quickly discover and get drawn into the world and characters created by him. For a while I thought “Where are the dragons?” but then the main character Calliyah discovers one and many more follow thereafter!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, it's very "unputdownable" and I certainly hope that this is the start of at least a triology and can't wait for the next book! If you love fantasy (or even if you don't!) this is an absolute must read.
