Mixing business with pleasure is a dangerous game, but for her, he might just risk it all.
Nicholas Blackwood
As CEO of Blackwood Hotels, control isn’t just a preference, it’s a necessity. I don’t do distractions, and I certainly don’t do relationships. But when a business deal requires me to appear engaged, there’s only one person I trust to help me pull it off: my assistant, Amara Winslow. She’s sharp, professional, and completely off-limits. This arrangement was supposed to be simple, temporary. But the more I’m around her, the harder it is to keep things strictly business. Every moment with her blurs the line between what's real and what's pretend, and I’m not sure how much longer I can resist.
Amara Winslow
Being Nicholas Blackwood’s assistant means knowing his every move before he makes it. But when he asks me to be his fake fiancée, everything changes. Suddenly, I’m wearing his ring, attending his events, and sharing his space. What starts as a simple arrangement soon spirals into something far more complicated, and the lines between professional and personal blur in ways I never expected. Falling for my boss was never part of the deal, but now I’m not sure I can stop.
Stephanie Alves is an avid reader and writer of smutty, contemporary romance books. She was born in England, but was raised by her loud Portuguese parents. She can speak both languages fluently, though she tends to mix both languages when speaking. She loves to write romantic comedies with happy endings, witty banter and sizzling chemistry that will make you blush. When she’s not writing, she can be found either reading, or watching rom coms with her two adorable dogs cuddled up beside her.
Let's take a moment to appreciate the cover of this book. The cover itself made me wanna read the book and I can definitely say that the saying, 'don't judge a book by it's cover' is wrong, because this book was wonderful, just like the cover.
It's really cute that the mmc, Nicholas Blackwood, thrives on control, but just by being in the presence of the fmc, he loses all of it. Another cute thing is how the fmc is always feeling insecure because of her weight but the mmc always finds a way to tell her that she weighs nothing to him.
Let's talk about the spice now. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much about the smut, but the smut here was REALLY good.
Ps:- If you liked King of Wrath, you'll like this one as well.
⁀➴ 𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 🖤 billionaire romance 💍 boss x assistant 🖤 engagement of convenience 💍 plus size fmc
this was a super fast paced adult romance which was enjoyable and i had fun with it.
🤍┆。𖦹°‧ 𝐩𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 ౨ৎ this is a workplace/engagement of convenience romance and it sounded really interesting... so i had to get the arc 🤭 also i've been dying to read a stephanie alves book so this is perfect !!
thank you to love notes pr and the author for a digital arc in exchange for my honest review
WOW. "Strictly Business" by Stephanie Alves is QUITE the book. It can be filthy, but it can also be sweet. I love the fake fiancée and workplace romance tropes, but add in a plot where he falls first and where he is SMITTEN with everything the main female character does?! And incredible banter? And where he loves her curves and wants to worship her? I am a goner! Naturally, this one is PERFECT for me. I really liked Amara and Nicholas. Amara is a plus-sized professional who is the assistant to Nicholas, a billionaire CEO. She has recently been cheated on, and he needs to look more family-friendly to facilitate a merger at work... so, he asked her to be his fiancée for a few months! Little does she know, he has been pining for her for years! A fake dating scheme leads to very real feelings? SAY NO MORE. I enjoyed the heck out of this one. I loved the characters, I enjoyed the spoiling, I liked their growth throughout the story, and I loved how Amara and Nicholas bring out the best in each other. I found the writing engaging, and I enjoyed the spice A LOT. This is a super fun book and reads very quickly. If I had one complaint, I'd say that the story gets a little repetitive at times. But, more time with these characters isn't necessarily a bad thing! I hope you give this one a chance!
Thank you to Stephanie Alves and Love Notes PR for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.
I love a curvy MFC however this book was just lacking a story.
Amara is an assistant and wants to be an interior designer. She has lied to her sister and grandmother about it. She has just found out her ex has cheated on her and she has moved into a rubbish apartment.
Nicholas has taken over as CEO from his father who has passed away. He has used his personal life to get attention in the media to help the failing company however this has now bites him in the butt. The board won’t sign off on expansion deal unless he cleans up his act. In step Amara and pretends to be his fiancée.
You don’t really learn anything about their characters and there is no tension only saving grace the 3rd act break doesn’t really happen.
It’s kind of a slow burn? (Not really but still a little, like they’re not jumping straight to bed) It was a quick fun read but it was also a cliche and the characters lacked depth, not entirely bad but nothing crazy either.
The author said that this book is spicy and i’m happy to tell you she delivered. The smut was definitely smutting.
Some of the scenes and dialogues reminded me of books i’ve read before, because they were very similar. Now, there’s nothing wrong with that, we all get inspired by something or someone but it takes away from the originality a bit.
Other than that i loved the relationship between Nick and pumpkin (the cat). They were a fun duo lol
— vibezz 💍 forbidden attraction 🏨 boss/assistant 💍 fake relationship 🏨 forced proximity 💍 she upgraded from the ex
mini blurb — ✍🏻 After using his dating life as a distraction from the scandals involving the family Company, Nicholas can't convince his board members to trust him with the expansion to other Countries, here comes Amanda, his newly single assistant, whom he convince to play the role of fake-fianceé.
//
My poor European mind cannot comprehend the basic plot and all the little things going on here, if you want to enjoy a workplace/fake dating romance where he's so smitten with her but they both push and pull knowing what they're doing has an end date you'll have the time of your life.
If you are even a little like me that want to know and comprehend where and when you are in the plot and what the fuck is going on, WELL TOO BAD.
I thing a little more editing would have done the trick. Many times the scene started in the morning and suddenly it was evening/night? Repetitive sentences over and over, seemed like the MCs had this one thought in mind and nothing else.
My girl Amanda was the PA of a billionaire who happened to own a (Luxury I suppose) Hotel Chain and it seemed like he went to work covered in rags before fake-dating him. She was duped by his shitty ex the Friday and by Sunday she already had a new apartment (shitty af but nonetheless) in NYC!!! ok sure The mmc told her to pack her bags and that she was staying at his house and she put her stuff in trash-bags. GURL DONT YOU HAVE A FUCKING SUITCASE? omg and she was pictured a this shy/out of place/timid person, I get it, you went from rags to riches and it was quite a shock, but get it together at some point 😑
My man Nate always had to remember to himself the arrangement with Amanda only lasted 3 months whenever his flare of possessiveness such as she's mine and it will never end between us reached critical points. He did his best. *pat in the head*
Thank you Stephanie Alves for sending me a copy of your book! I thought this book was great, it was super sexy and I love how this author portrayed body positivity. Amara being a bigger girl had a lot of insecurities about her body, but Nicholas really helped her see how beautiful she truly was. As the book mentioned there was tons of praise. To me I feel the book was more smut based than plot which is okay I kinda wish there was a little more story to go along with this read. But the smut was written great. I think these characters were super fun to read. I liked how Nicholas was completely different than what I expected his character to be. He was incredibly caring towards Amara, always checking on her and spoiling her with sweet words and money! Amara was a very sweet character to read, she was almost timid and reserved but being with Nicholas showed her a side of more confidence. There were a lot of good couple moments however I feel like the book was pretty fast paced and I wish some of the time frames were slowed down a bit. I feel like this couple moved really fast and at some points it felt like the chemistry was more lust than love… But overall it was a fun read!
I reeeaaalllly tried to be kind and stick with this, but it just got worse and worse. The same sentences were being said, just different situations. The actions and dialogue did not flow together. I found it choppy and too direct.
Arc Review I love Stephanie’s book so much so when I saw Strictly Business along with all of the tropes I knew I was going to be down bad for these two!! This was super fun and quick read.
Amara and Nicholas were hot as hell, the tension that came along with the “fake engagement” as well as her being his assistant was chefs kiss I couldn’t get enough of these two! Talk about a man that falls hard and fast for his girl holy crap. I also loved how Nicholas helped Amara find her confidence after everything she had been put through in her last relationship.
Stephanie definitely delivered with a super smutty read which hit the spot but it was well balanced with a very emotional and beautiful relationship and story between the MC’s. I enjoyed every minute of this one.
Thanks so much to Love Notes PR and Stephanie for the chance to read this early I’m so grateful and can’t wait to read more.

Amara Winslow is the cute, timid and depending assistant. She has been thru a rough breakup and is looking for a way to get ahead in her life and career.

Arc review. Thank to Love notes pr for the eArc copy 🥰
**Me: “I’ll just read one chapter.” Also me at 3am: *practicing my fake engagement speech in the mirror*** I need a Nicholas Blackwood in my life IMMEDIATELY.**
This book?? Had me giggling, kicking my feet, fanning myself, and ready to become a billionaire’s assistant. Nicholas is a control freak CEO with zero chill and a “no distractions” policy… until his assistant Amara walks in looking like a snack *and* agrees to play fiancée. Sir, good luck staying professional because *I* couldn’t even keep my composure and I was just reading.
What I loved most was how much he spoiled her—not just with gifts, but with love, attention, and pure devotion. and he worships the ground she walks on. The kink was deliciously written and never overshadowed the emotional connection between them. Every scene felt empowering, tender, and insanely hot.
Amara is plus-size, smart, and radiates “unbothered queen” energy, and Nicholas? That man SPOILS her like she’s made of literal gold. I’m talking luxury, longing stares, and unholy amounts of tension. and I loved every second of watching him fall. The way he treats her?? I need a moment. Actually, I need several.
Nicholas Blackwood is the kind of intense, brooding CEO that makes you want to hand over your heart (and maybe your phone number). He’s so stupidly rich! *scream* Is it okay to say that i was drooling over him? *ahem* Because I was. (He’s so mouth watering) nvm...
This wasn’t just fake dating—it was fake dating with luxury suites, possessive glances, and *ahem* scenes that had me blushing through my Kindle. And let’s be real: the only thing fake about this engagement was how long they pretended not to be obsessed with each other. Their chemistry is fire, their banter is perfection, and the slow unraveling of their “strictly business” arrangement is just *chef’s kiss*.
this book is my new personality now. 10/10 would sell my soul to HR for a love story like this.
There are fake engagement stories… and then there’s Strictly Business. Stephanie Alves doesn’t just give us a swoony billionaire boss and his off-limits assistant—she gives us heat, heart, and a heroine who makes us feel seen. This one’s for the girls who’ve ever felt like they had to shrink themselves to fit into someone else’s idea of beauty—Amara Winslow says, “No thanks.” (Okay, it takes her a little while—but when she does? WE ARE HERE FOR IT.)
Tropes: 💼 Boss x Assistant 💍 Fake Fiancée 🔥 He Falls First (and Hard) 💰 Billionaire romance 💖 Plus-size FMC who learns to love her body (and is adored exactly as she is)
Nicholas Blackwood is all polished control and CEO perfection—until he asks Amara to play his fake fiancée, and suddenly that control is cracking wide open. Their chemistry? Instant. Their banter? Delicious. Their bedroom scenes? You might need a fan. But what sets this book apart is the mirror scene. Nicholas doesn’t just worship Amara in the bedroom—he helps her see her reflection with new eyes, showing her that every curve, every inch, is something sacred. Her body becomes a celebration, not something to “accept,” but to adore. That scene? I highlighted every word.
Stephanie Alves, thank you for giving us a plus-size heroine who doesn’t just get the man—she gets the mirror moment, too. Thank you to the author and LoveNotesPR for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Good beginning, I really enjoyed the first 75%, but then it just got a bit same-y towards the end. Overall, not a terrible read, enjoyable if a bit longer than it should have been. I would have enjoyed it more if it were around 100 pages less.
What to expect:
❤️🔥 Billionaire ❤️🔥 Boss x assistant ❤️🔥 Fake engagement ❤️🔥 BDSM themes ❤️🔥 He falls harder
This is my first Stephanie Alves book and I really enjoyed it. I dont think it's groundbreaking but it was fun and gave good vibes. Who wouldnt love a billionaire who loves to spend money and spoil his woman? That's Nicholas when it comes to his assistant turned fake fiancee Amara. Both have been secretly crushing on each other so when a business deal was going haywire, Nicholas did what any boss would do - pretend he is a family man and is actually engaged. One of my favorite microtropes with billionaire romances is when the MMC hands his black card to the FMC and tells her to go crazy and challenges to max out his card. And that she did! I love both MCs. Love that Nicholas was so supportive of Amara and used words of affirmation to show Amara his love. I love how relatable Amara is and how the writing showed her vulnerability about herself and her body especially after she broke up with her cheating ex.
I was not a big fan of the pacing. I didnt feel like there was a build up to the relationship. I think the whole boss/secretary bit could have been extended to really build on them pining for each other. The spicy scenes were good but I think it was a bit overdone that I had to skip on most of them.
Overall, this is a good fluffy and in between heavy reads type of book and I love that about it. It's an easy but fun romance book.
Thank you to Love Notes PR for the advance copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
I’ve enjoyed the book in itself, but I would say that I found it a bit too basic. The story isn’t very original, with no surprises whatsoever, and I don’t mind when it comes with something more, but to me the characters lacked depth. Their feelings kinda shifted too quickly where I would have wanted a bit more background and development. The brother especially was just your basic villain with no story? I would have liked the business part of the story to be more interesting in order to bring in some more tension. The two MC did have chemistry so their coupled scenes were nice, but unfortunately the book fell flat for me.
*I received an ARC of this book, this is my honest opinion*
ARC Review | Strictly Business by Stephenie Alves ARC provided by Love Notes PR
If you like: • Office romance • Close proximity • Fake engagement • Billionaire romance
Then Strictly Business is 100% for you!
This book gave serious King of Wrath vibes—in the best way possible. Our MMC is your classic CEO: dominant, controlled, and used to getting exactly what he wants. But what really made this book stand out was our FMC. She’s plus-size, self-conscious, and real. I absolutely loved how the story embraced her vulnerability while showing how the MMC made her feel sexy, seen, and confident in her own skin.
The spice? Oh, it’s there. And when it hits, it hits hard. While some scenes dive straight into the heat, the author also weaves in the perfect dose of slow burn that builds the tension and makes those spicy moments even more intense. When both characters are in, they’re all in—and it delivers.
Stephenie Alves did not come to play. This was the kind of swoony, steamy, emotional romance that leaves you kicking your feet and grinning at your Kindle.
First things first—just the fact that the main character shares my name made me giddy with joy. But despite sharing a name, we couldn’t be more different. She’s sweet, kind, and soft—a complete contrast to the little chaos demon that is yours truly. Still, I adored her from the very beginning.
Now let’s talk about Nicholas Blackwood. What. A. Man. He had me giggling and kicking my feet in the air from the very start. The way he reassures Amara every time self-doubt creeps in? That’s what every girl needs. He’s considerate, kind, and so incredibly respectful. His love is shown not through grand declarations, but in every small gesture—each one proving just how deeply he cares. Honestly, I don’t know how Amara managed to resist him because I definitely couldn’t.
And speaking of Amara—she’s the kind of girl you just want to wrap in a warm hug. Life hasn’t been easy for her, and yet, she remains this sweet, resilient soul. Her inner monologues? So relatable. She truly deserves the world, and it felt right that someone like Nicholas came into her life to remind her of that.
I have such a soft spot for heroes who build up their partner’s confidence instead of tearing it down, and Nicholas did just that. The way he respected Amara, the way he got jealous over Pumpkin (yes, the cat!), and the way he was just so ready to claim her as his? Delicious. That possessiveness? Peak perfection.
The slow burn was executed beautifully, and when the spice hit—it hit. The chemistry was chemistrying, and I couldn’t get enough of their moments together. Nicholas Blackwood is now officially added to my ever-growing list of billionaire book boyfriends, joining the elite ranks of fictional men who’ve successfully raised my standards to the sky.
Now let’s take a second to appreciate Jade and Ethan. Jade’s recklessness? Relatable. Ethan’s chaotic energy? Spirit animal. They stole the spotlight in every scene and added such a fun, vibrant layer to the story. I love friendships like Jade’s—fiercely protective, loyal, and filled with humor. Everyone needs a Jade in their life.
And oh my god, that ending. It was everything I hoped for. The epilogue and everything leading up to it were just so beautifully executed. The relationship dynamics, the emotional depth, the sweet, swoony romance—it all came together so perfectly.
Honestly, I loved everything about this book. It was sweet, emotional, romantic, and so full of heart. A perfect comfort read with the kind of love story that stays with you.
I’ve heard so much buzz about Stephanie Alves’ books, and I’ve been dying to see what the hype is about. Every time I see an ARC opportunity, I cross my fingers and hope for the best so when I actually got approved for Strictly Business, I was so excited. And honestly? It completely lived up to the hype. This book had one of my favorite tropes: the fake engagement. But Alves adds a fresh twist with a slow-burn dynamic between a grumpy, ultra controlled billionaire CEO (Nick) and his sharp, capable, and all around incredible assistant (Amara). They’re constantly thrown into close, tense situations, and the chemistry?? It’s instant and only gets more intense as things unfold. But what stood out the most for me was how Amara’s character was written. She’s a plus-size woman who’s confident, smart, and steady and she’s not written like the stereotypical “insecure big girl” we unfortunately see too often. ( hi it’s me 🙋🏻♀️) Her journey with body image is handled so well it felt real and respectful. There’s one scene (if you’ve read it, you know) where Nick shows her a new way of seeing herself, and it genuinely gave me chills. As someone who connects with Amara’s experiences, that moment hit hard in the best way. The chemistry between Amara and Nick is magnetic from the very beginning. Their banter, emotional tension, and the gradual unraveling of Nick’s cold exterior were so satisfying to watch. Everything just clicks. The emotional payoff is huge, and the romance feels earned. I completely understand now why people love Stephanie Alves’ work so much. Strictly Business is not just another fake fiancé romance it’s thoughtful, sexy, and full of heart. I’m definitely adding her to my must read author list.
⚠️ I was gifted an ARC courtesy of LoveNotes PR and this is my honest opinion.
Okay I might just be a little obsessed with Nicholas Blackwood, because he is hot hot HOT. Him and Amara were so sweet from the beginning. A little about the book- Nicholas, who took over his dad’s hotel business after he passed, needs to go from exciting bachelor to family man, so he springs a fake engagement on his assistant, who recently broke up with a truly horrid man. Over three months, they’re pining, they challenge each other, and they grow closer together even though they don’t think they should. Now, Amara? She is a thoughtful girl, loves her family, is a hard worker, but she sometimes worries she’s not enough. And Nicholas? He’s a workaholic and not planning to settle down, but he also might have been pining for Amara for months or even years. I mean from day one, he went all “your apartment isn’t safe move in with me” and it just went further from there. Also? The spice? *chef’s kiss*. The praise? The soft degradation? The consent checks? NICHOLAS! 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 (wirh that one scene closer to 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️), and 4/5 ⭐️ for the story itself!! Now, did I expect who/what was going to bring about the final conflict moment? Yes. But thankfully, that part wasn’t drawn out or over the top, and the pieces were there throughout. I highly recommend this book for someone interested in a sweet, spicy book. Thank you so much to Stephanie Alves LoveNotesPR for this ARC, this is my honest review 😍😍
✨Strictly Business was such a fun, slow-burn office romance! I loved the dynamic between Nicholas and Amara — the fake engagement trope is always a favorite💍, and Stephanie Alves did a great job balancing the tension and the sweet moments.💕
🖤Nick’s grumpy, control-freak energy paired with Amara’s smart, steady presence made for some seriously addictive chemistry🤭. I especially liked how capable Amara was; she never felt like she lost herself even as things got messy between them. 🥹Their connection felt real, and watching them fall for each other was so lovely. Their tension as well HOT!🥵
😍The slow-burn development of their romance keeps the tension high, and the emotional payoff is very satisfying.🥰The side characters were hilarious and it made the book enjoyable. Some parts felt a little too easy or expected — I wanted more from Nick’s emotional unraveling. But still, obsessed. Fake fiancé + broody boss = forever favorite combo.❤️🔥
⭐️If you love fake fiancé tropes, slow-burn office romances, and a boss who’s absolutely doomed to fall for his assistant, Strictly Business is definitely worth picking up!🙌🏽
Thank you to the Author Stephanie Alves and LoveNotesPR for the opportunity to read this ARC!❤️
I was so freaking excited for this book! It did not disappoint! 😍
I actually preordered Strictly Business before I even got accepted for the ARC!
This book? Total good vibes. It was fun, fast, and fluffy in the best way. Nicholas is a billionaire MMC who spoils Amara (his assistant-turned-fake fiancée) like crazy. Yes, he gives her his black card and tells her to go wild. Yes, she does. Iconic behavior.
Amara is a relatable, plus-size queen dealing with insecurities after a breakup, and Nicholas is nothing but supportive—constant words of affirmation and swoony energy.
I really loved how supportive Nicholas was, especially with Amara’s insecurities around her body post-breakup. She’s such a relatable, plus-size heroine, and the way her vulnerability was written felt really authentic. Nicholas constantly hyping her up with words of affirmation? Obsessed.
They’ve both secretly liked each other for ages, so when a deal starts going sideways, Nicholas pulls out the classic romance move—pretend engagement.
I wish the build-up was slower (more boss x assistant pining, please!) and the spice was HOT!
But overall? A super fun, bingeable romance that gave me everything I needed.
I big thank you to love notes pr and Stephanie Alves for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!
I am an absolute sucker for anything fake dating!!
Add in real feelings, a possessive man, and an office romance?? SOLD!
Honestly, who doesn't want a billionaire CEO begging to give you the world?
Speaking of... Nickolas Blackwood! What a man. We love a man who is obsessed with his woman, and my god is he OBSESSED. The way he looks after Amara and shows her how she should really be treated was just adorable!
Now onto Miss Amara Winslow! There were so many times I just wanted to reach into the book and tell her she was enough and amazing. I loved reading about her journey as she became more confident and found a man who deserved her!
Nicholas and Amara’s story was so good! I loved reading this book so much! I love seeing a man help a plus size FMC learn to love her body! And oh my gosh, the mouth on Nicholas 🥵🥵. The spice was amazing and there were some fun times 😉 I was not expecting! Amara went from such a sweet innocent girl whose boyfriend cheated on her to a badass woman who learned to love her body and explore new k!nks. The way these 2 fell for each other was perfection! And ohhhh the possessiveness in Nicholas was top tier! I definitely cannot wait to read more of Stephanie’s work!
Thank you, Love Notes PR and Stephanie Alves for the ARC!
This book was scorching hot and quite romantic! Who doesn’t want a man who worship the ground you walk on?
Nicholas Blackwood was quite a man, a simp for Amara (we love a man who can’t stop yapping about his girl). Amara Winslow was the badass female character I love in a book: smart, intelligent, loyal and caring.
I really liked their story. Was it predictable? Maybe yes but despite this, it’s pleasant! I was hooked up since the very first page!
Amara works as Nicholas’s assistant, but everything changes when she unexpectedly agrees to pose as his fake fiancée. Nicholas is trying to land a major business deal, and he believes being engaged will give him an edge. Amara steps into the role and supports him every step of the way. But as the lines between pretend and reality start to blur, both are left wondering what happens when the deal, and their arrangement comes to an end. I loved how genuinely supportive they were of each other, especially the way Nicholas constantly uplifted Amara and helped her find confidence in herself. Their journey is sweet, heartfelt, and packed with spice. If you're in the mood for a feel good romance that brings the heat, this one deserves a spot on your TBR!
