AJ Sherwood believes in happily ever afters, magic, dragons, good men, and dark chocolate. She often dreams at night of delectable men doing sexy things with each other. In between writing multiple books (often at the same time) she pets her cats, plays with her dogs, and attempts insane things like aerial yoga.
She currently resides in Tennessee with aforementioned cats, dogs, and her editor/best friend/sister/partner in crime.
If you like totally angst free stories, with lots of nice people and cute cats, this is perfect for you.
For me this instalment felt rather uneventful, as much as I like Jon and Don. And that despite the promised ‘big fight’ and the dangerous bomb situation.
Jon and Donovan’s argument is resolved double-quick, the bomb never feels threatening, and the most problematic issues here are Jon thinking he has to be Superman all the time and picking some suitable cats.
Tbh, everything goes so super smoothly, people and family are so kind, friendly, helpful and loving (and we all know that Jon and Don are totally solid in their relationship by now) I craved for some kind of real tension, no matter if it derived from the plot or their relationship.
There still was no revelation on Don’s comment in book 3 that he has learnt how to keep a secret from Jon. Darn. I really would have loved to find out how that worked!
Nice characters with some cute and some hot moments. A pleasant read, but no more. I always feel that the author has never made most of the wonderful world and characters she created.
I mean, at least it wasn't *worse* that the last book??
But, ofc, it had all of the same issues, so I really couldn't love it. I mean, is it me? Maybe it's because I am emotionally dead inside, but I cannot FATHOM, as a 30+ yo adult, that if my mom were to marry her current BF, that I would EVER think of him as "another father". I would probably never even *meet* his parents, let alone CALL THEM GRANDMA AND GRANDPA. I feel like I am taking crazy pills, and I cannot get past how fucking weird it is to me that Jon is acting like the parents of his estranged dad's husband, who he reconnected with less than a year ago after a decade+ of radio silence, are his actual grandparents. That's weird, right? Is it just me???
Okay, all of that aside, and it's a big fucking aside, I actually think I probably enjoyed this one a smidge more than the last, because I thought the case was a bit more interesting, and I did like the further development of Jon & Donovan's relationship. Still hate the dual POVs and Donovan's in particular. I was also annoyed because I haven't read the companion series centering Mack and Donovan's brother, and while it wasn't necessary/I wasn't lost here, there were events/relationships etc. mentioned in a way that clearly assumed I was familiar with that series, and it fucking annoyed me.
Yes, yes, I know, I shouldn't have even read this book because I knew it would piss me off, but apparently I am a glutton for punishment and also, I couldn't decide what else to read.
I will only ever re-read the first book and this one, the other two kind of sucked tbh.
---------------------------------------
I really liked the first book in the series, but the second and third book were not up to par. And that's why I was hesitant when I started this one, but I was so glad to find out I really liked it!
I have always loved Jon and Donovan, but book 2 and 3 were such disappointments to me. And I still feel the titles and covers suggest this is a slap-stick kind of series, and it's really not. But besides that this was quite a nice surprise. This finally had a better mystery and some lovely romantic moments.
My main issues with the other books were that I felt treated like a dumb reader. I don't need every little thing explained to me. And don't constantly tell me something is weird, when it's really not. It doesn't make me believe in it faster. But I was so happy to see that the author toned that down a bit in this.
It is still a very sweet sappy kind of romance, but this was more interesting at least. I liked the case, and I liked the romance.
“I love you beyond reason. And my original plan for this is out the window, so I’m just going to ask. I’m a hot mess.” I opened the case and turned it to display the simple titanium band trimmed in gold. “But will you have me anyway?”
That about sums up the entire book for me.
This book had Jon and Donovan go through a series of trails and self-realizations, the author's way, I think, of very subtling nudging encouraging us to do some of the same.
When Donovan was angry at Jon for dismissing his own regard for safety and jumping on an AIRCRAFT nonetheless, he didn't take his temper out on Jon. Despite being angry, and rightfully so, Donovan chose to remain quiet until he felt like he could have the conversation with Jon.
Jon in turn realizes that rather than going on autopilot, and bending way over backwards, he has to think of himself and Donovan first. He learned the important lesson of self-worth and after realizing he had low self esteem issues, showed active progress on working on them. Go Jon!!
This novel always introduced me to a couple of the world's most adorable cats and I'm itching to buy one too! How can one resist those sweet molten eyes and the softest meow?
The one thing that I think the novel fails to resolve is the case of the second bombing. We never really get to know if the person responsible for the first bombing was also responsible for the second bombing. :((
This mystery was a little tedious to me, maybe because I was missing the rest of the crew or maybe it was because it wasn't set in their home ground and the number of times the author mentioned the disadvantages of using a hotel room. Nevertheless, I was glad when Jon and Donovan finally moved back home and we got a glimpse of their newer relationships with Jon's grandma and grandpa. Honestly? Best Grandparents Ever!!
The proposal was also something I was almost frotting at the mouth to read. Jon might've planned the most epic proposal he could think of, but flour, Shazam and a miscalculation of time made it something very Jon and Donovan: i.e., Crazy.
A 5 star⭐ book, I sure hope this isn't the last we hear of Jon and Don. I'd like to see their marriage and whatever crazy case Jon finds himself in the middle of then. ;)
I love these two so much. They're one of my favorite couples. They both had a moment where I wanted to shake them and yell "communicate" but they work it out and their love never falters.
Jon and Donovan are back! This time around Jon is called to Vegas to help with a bomb threat and wherever Jon goes Donovan follows. Jon not only has to stop the bomb from going off he also feels like he has to find the perpetrator.
Really enjoyed seeing these two together. Their relationship is still going strong even though in the beginning of this one a fight happens between them. As Jon tends to jump head first into a case without thinking of himself and Donovan. However, these two are good at communicating and know how to work through their issues. They have been together for 16 months and look to taking a few more steps to deepen their relationship.
This was my least favorite book in the series. None of the books have been over 3 stars so far, but I kept reading them because I was interested. I’ve enjoyed Jon and learning about what he is capable of as a psychic. I’ve enjoyed Donovan and the relationship he has with Jon. It’s healthy, it’s fun and it’s sexy. The two of them are perfect. I’ve also enjoyed all of the additional characters including family, friends, coworkers and even the witnesses/criminals. On top of that I’ve always enjoyed the cases being worked on. So despite it always falling short of 4 or 5 stars I kept wanting to read. But this book, it was so redundant. It felt unnecessary. So much was repeated about Jon. Things we’ve known since book one and it was repeated as if we were first time readers. I get appealing to someone who might have picked up book 4 as a stand-alone, but for those of us reading in sequence it’s kind of cringe worthy. Then there was the “big first argument” between Jon and Donovan which felt pointless. We already know they’re a healthy couple that communicates better than most humans; some argument like this doesn’t really provide any type of importance. They didn’t need to have it in order for Jon to decide if he’s proposing or not. That wasn’t even his deciding factor. I feel like if Donovan put his life on the line without an argument the answer still would have been the same. So I’m not sure why the first 20% of the book was focused on that. We lost all of the side characters from the other books. Sure people were mentioned, but Jon and Donovan were out in Vegas completely away from everyone they know. It just felt...isolated. The case also wasn’t a very good one. Compared to cases they’ve had before, that border-lined supernatural, spooky or freaky this one was relatively normal.
Sigh. I love this couple but I think this might be the last of this series I read. I think I’ve gotten enough of them in one sitting. Especially if the writing is shifting this way. Oh well. I enjoyed the first three books immensely.
I always love coming back to this couple they are cute and balance each other out.
I do think that this book was missing some stuff like the rest of the consultant crew, I was hoping to get some Garrett and Sho? Or even a cameo from Brandon and Mack. But we didn’t see any of them which I was a tad bummed about.
Overall this was cute, and definitely recommend if you liked the other three books. It seems like this has set up for more in the future which I am not mad about.
This series keeps getting better. I loved these boys and their friends & family. Jon is called to Vegas to stop a bomb & without even taking two seconds to discuss it Donovan, he just says yes & starts packing to go. Needless to say, Donovan is pissed. He understands the urgency, but as his anchor, partner & lover, they should have discussed what is needed to get the job done. One of Jon's issues is that he always feels like he is a burden on everyone & that he has to constantly prove himself so he can't say no, or give me a minute. Jon is a work on progress & Donovan is helping him to see himself differently. So off to Vegas they go to stop the bombing & to help with the witness interviews. Jon thinks that he has to solve the case, not because he is full of himself, because of what I mentioned before; his self worth. The mystery was well written & it is not easy to figure out what exactly the reasoning behind the bombings & who is responsible.
“You don’t have to bend over backward. You don’t have to jump through hoops. You don’t have to miraculously solve a case. People who don’t know you might lose patience. People with their own agendas might demand things you’ll find it near impossible to do. You owe them nothing. You’re enough precisely as you are. You’re loved precisely as you are.”
Back at it with Donovan and Jon this time trying to catch a bomber. These books are always interesting enough to keep me engaged. They are never super exciting or so action and drama packed that they keep you on the edge of your seat. They are more like soft strolls into crime with a romance so sweet and fluffy. Like I’ve said in the rest of the reviews, I enjoy this series a lot. I find them entertaining and funny and super cute. Donovan and Jon’s relationship is pretty much perfect and that’s where they shy away from 5 stars every time. Donovan is literally the perfect man and even though there is a fight in this book it truly is nothing. The drama between the two is nonexistent and yeah that’s a good thing but it leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to their relationship. They have great sexual chemistry but the emotional deep chemistry I am looking for with them is nonexistent since they are so perfect for one another. There is never any tension not even sexual, everything just happens so easily for them when it comes to their relationships, even if they try to say otherwise. Anyways like perfect relationships are like the goal, so I’m only complaining because we never got tension or exploration of true intimacy in their relationship as it built which is disappointing. Anyways these are fun easy just total vibe books and I can’t and won’t fault them for that. I love it, just will always wish for just a tad bit more when it comes to the romance.
So here we are in the next adventure of Jon and Donovan, who this time are flying to Vegas to help with a case. Yup, the man who kills electronics got on a plane. Which made Donovan mad and they had their first fight. All is well though, they make up immediately.
The one unbelievable thing that happens in this book is that Jon is pretty much treated like a demigod and his family, Donovan's family, and even his just met step family all go out of their way to do stuff for him. Like buying a Humvee or giving him an antique truck.
Anyways, the narrator was still off but by now, I'm ok with it.

Well...
It took me three tries to finish this one. And I realized that these two guys have only been together for 16 months but are on their 4th book.
Spoilers incoming, fair warning
Anyways, in here Jon and Donovan fly in a plane to Vegas to help with a bomb. Because of Jon's abilities killing all electronic things, he had to stay in a tent thing. These two have a massive fight because Donavan didn't like that Jon didn't talk to him before agreeing to help.
While there, they make up and Jon agrees to getting cats and wants to propose.
The whole bomb storyline was rather bland and boring. But I did like the other psychic and handler.
This could have lost about 50 pages and would have been better and the whole everyone loves Jon and his newly adopted grandparents\dads\the Havalli family\etc immediately doing what he needs to be a bit much.
Ok I can understand his reunited dad, but not dads husband, the husbands parents, or even Donavan's parents knowing what to say or do to help him. I get that his life was rough, but come on.
So in this iteration, we have Jon jumping head first into bomb diffusing and Donovan not being all that happy with his boyfriend being so close to an explosive. It is certainly a fun adventure for the two, and I loved going through with their problems and their sweet moments! I enjoyed this one a lot.
A presto Jon e Don 😍🫂 💖💖💖💖💖
I LOVE Jon and Donovan, they are definitely a favorite couple of mine to read about. In this book, their partnership is put to the test early on when they have to fly out to Las Vegas for an emergency case.
I LOVE stories with established couples because we get to see how they grow, how they still make things work, and how comfortable they are with each other, Jon and Donovan are everything to each other, and I love reading about that. I love their friends and family, and how great they all are together.
Definitely recommend this series, read it in order, and enjoy!
This series may be 1 of my all time favourite. Jon and Donovan work hard for their relationship. I am interested in them, and the characters that recur in each story (specifically their families). The world building and power development are truly well done. I highly recommend this series
I am so bummed this is the last book currently written in this series! I am loving Jon and Donovan so much. Man this booked started off rough for me though as I hate seeing my favorites fighting, but at the same time I knew this was what needed to happen for Jon to feel completely safe in this relationship with Donovan.
And we're dealing with bombs this time around...I get where Donovan's fear is coming from. If I missed anything in this story it was getting to see some of our favorite side characters. This time around Donovan and Jon are off on their own as one of their FBI friends calls them desperate for Jon's help. Jon dropping everything to get on a plane and confront a bomb...well that's a lot of tension on his and Donovan's relationship. But I knew these two and I was actively anticipating them finally talking things out.
This story was a bit more relationship-y than focused on the mystery. We've got a fun new psychic friend for Jon and Donovan to add to their circle, but really most of the action doesn't really need them (until it all does again ;)). But this situation forces them to deal with some of their insecurities and they come out all the stronger because of it.
I need more Jon and Donovan. In no hurry for this series to ever end. I'll take mysteries with these guys any day.
I am so happy to witness such a beautiful moment for Jon and Donovan. Is this going to be the end of the series? I really hope not because I cant get enough of all the characters in the book. I am thrilled to finally see Jon's mother moving along to a good start and I'm sure her new found family will be so much better than her ex-husband. The supportive environment built around Jon was just exactly what he needs. That big fight between Donovan and Jon was heart-wrenching and it pleased me to see how they both managed to work it out together. Another great book for the series!
I wish A.J Sherwood would write a book every month - okay, sorry, no pressure, I'm more than willing to wait months for every new releas. I know quality books need time. But I have to say that I enjoy reading these books so much. It was interesting to dive back into Jon's world and even the fact that I thought, there were a few slip ups with electronics, it was still a really enjoyable read. I did love that this time we got to see Donavan from a different side. So, hoping this won't be the last book of this series. Highly recommended.
