Let’s just start with this: this book made me feel shit. Like, real shit. Like “pages are blurry, I need a drink, and my chest hurts but in the best way” kinda shit. And I was not prepared.
Burn was hot, filthy, and stress-inducing in the best way, but Sate? Sate came in with healing, identity, grief, and some soul-punching emotional wreckage—and THEN layered in the sex. This was therapy with a strap-on.
Astrid owns my heart. She’s so fucked up and so beautiful and so READY to take her power back, even when she doesn’t think she is. Watching her unravel and rebuild had me in a chokehold. This was a cathartic story about finding your damn self and trying to survive in a world that’s already taken too fucking much. It’s messy. It’s raw. And I FELT it.
Now let’s talk about William. His mouth. His mouth. This man talks like he’s got a PhD in Filth with a minor in Ruining Lives. Every line was a punch to my panties and I did not ask for mercy. He’s emotionally supportive and verbally filthy and that combo?? Unholy. Yes please.
And while we’re here? Let’s pour one out for Remi, the bestest fucking boi in all of bookish existence. That sweet murder floof didn’t just steal scenes—he anchored them. He was her quiet protector, her angel when she needed it most, and the way Loren wrote his perspective? I’m gonna need tissues and a support group just to process it. I want to give him a steak, a crown, and a Netflix deal. That dog is a hero.
Then there’s Liam—soft dom vibes, fallen first, all in from the jump. He’s sweet, he’s supportive, and he’s clearly down bad… but I needed more of his development. I didn’t get the full slow-burn build-up we got with William. I wanted to ache for him the way I did for Will, but the book stayed very focused on Astrid’s arc (as it should). Still—I hope we get more Liam in the future because that man deserves some spotlight.
The plot has depth. It’s emotional. It’s fast-paced and still lets you sit in the hard moments. It explores trauma and healing without making it preachy or heavy-handed. Mental health rep? YES. The kind that doesn’t feel like a PSA—it feels real.
Now… let’s get nasty for a second.
Is this as smutty as Burn? No.
But is it still filthy in all the right fucking ways? YES.
OMFG that god damn bonus scene fucking DESTROYED meeeeee. It was so nasty and satisfying I’m still not okay. I would 100% reread this entire book just to get back to that scene. I highlighted like I was prepping evidence for horny court. Loren doesn’t just write smut—she crafts filth with purpose, and when she goes for it? She does not miss.
And speaking of Loren…
Loren guuuurl—we are so going to fight. I cried. I got sweaty. I screamed “WHAT THE FUCK” into the void more than once. That reveal?? The way I gasped?? The way I was on the edge of feral confusion until you dropped that Hank line and I folded like a lawn chair?? Yeah. We’re not friends right now.
But damn if I didn’t love this.
Sate is the quieter book of the duet, but it’s deep and dark and emotionally full in a way that feels. It’s the book you read when you want healing AND filth. When you want to cry a little, fuck a lot, and hug your inner gremlin. When you want your heart broken and rebuilt by a sassy little survivor and the two absolute menaces who fall in love with her.
Solid 3 stars—not because it wasn’t good, but because it made me feel more than it made me feral. But it was fucking fantastic. And you can bet your ass I’ll be rereading that bonus scene until the screen cracks.

Sate follows Astrid, the bff of FMC Imogen from Burn. Astrid is out in California, going to college but she's not happy. Her family treats her like crap, except for one brother, she has depression and anxiety, and she just found out the father figure in her life, Imogen's father Hank, has died. Life isn't great. Astrid drops out of school and gets a job as the office manager for a club and for the first time, things aren't half bad.
Meanwhile, the Organization is going through some leadership changes... and these changes have indirectly affected Astrid's life without her knowing anything about it. Enters William and Liam. Can they keep Astrid safe from the Organization?
I had been looking forward to Astrid's story since book 1. And I'm so glad we finally got hers! It's a slowwww burn, but there's so much going on, that I loved the tension. I had no idea Astrid had so much on her shoulders... man her family really sucks. However, what I loved second most was her blossoming friendship with bartender Rae. It was beautiful to see vs woman being pitted against one another. I hope we get a Rae story... maybe with Ethan? My Favorite part was Remy, the dog. He was such a good boy! I love a why choose, btw- and this one made me want more of it! I need more Astrid and her men!
Speaking of a new story...... THAT ENDING! WHAT WAS THAT! I'm still reeling. We better get answers because I'm in shock! I need a book 3 pronto!

Absolutely loved getting Astrid's story! 🥹 Definitely make sure you read Burn first! Loren is such a great writer, she really knows how to pull you into a story!! Was completely hooked, didnt want to put it down!! I cannot wait for what's next! 🥰 P.S. Shout-out to the bestest pup Remy cause we all know pets in books are the greatest 🤭

When I tell you this book had its hooks in me I thoroughly mean it.
" I knew, on some level, that if I picked up the phone and called Imogen, or even Ethan, that they would tell me all the reasons to ignore the things that my f**king brain was telling me I was in that moment. But logic wasn't queen in those parts, and I could feel my skin beginning to crawl with the urge to run away from everything and everyone that knew me. I hated feeling like that."
This line in the book made me feel completely seen in a way that doesn't happen often. I did have a few moments while reading that made me cry, but how could I not? Loren Lee has a way of writing characters that you can't help but grow attached to and feel empathy towards. Astrid is a character I fell in love with in Loren's book Burn. Her friendship with Imogen really made you want to be friends with her as well. Check out the trigger warning list before starting this read and expect to read spice but I heavily recommend this book to be on anyone's TBR list.

I found this book to be an utterly engrossing read. The character of Astrid resonated deeply with me, and her story is a poignant portrayal of raw emotion and authenticity. The mental health representation is precisely what women need. Astrid's determination to forge her own path in life is inspiring, and her encounters with Liam and William are a pivotal turning point. Rather than retreating, Astrid advocates for herself and her newfound connections. The angst, banter, and slow-burning romance that unfolds are expertly woven throughout the narrative, making this book an absolute must-read. Sate is a book that I didn't know I needed, but it has become an essential part of my life.

I loved both Burn and Sate! I was hooked from the very beginning. Loren Lee’s conversational tone mixed with plenty of sarcasm, humor and just the right amount of spice makes you feel as though you are listening to your best friend spill the tea.
If this woman wrote the phone book, I’d want to read it! Thanks for a wonderfully written duo…I can’t wait for more!

Wowowow! Sate turned out to be the perfect second book to Burn! Astrid's story is everything I was hoping for and more!
Astrid has always been the black sheep of her family and quite frankly, not treated as she deserves. This leaves her feeling out of place in other areas of her life, searching for herself and what she wants. And so, she decides to pick up and head to small town, Redding, California. I love Astrid's character, she be a little lost at first, but it never takes away from her resilience and drive. Her compassion for her friends and found family. She's a fighter, and continually perseveres.
Liam shows up and let's call it, serendipity. He truly fights so hard against showing any feeling for Astrid because she's his employee. But from the start, you can feel the underlying tension and chemistry between them. Genuinely, Liam's banter and quips had me ROLLING at certain points! He consistently puts Astrid's best interests first. And then in walks a familiar face, William. IYKYK (go run and read Burn first! 😉) I absolutely love the instant connection between him and Astrid, for both of them it's like a shot to the system. I feel like William is all sizzle on the outside, tender and loving on the inside. He's a protector through and through!

Full disclosure, I am friends with the author. But that means I had the pleasure of seeing just how much heart and soul went into the making of this novel. Sate is a story that goes deep. When Astrid was introduced in the first book of this duet, Burn, I was instantly drawn to her.
At the surface, Astrid is such a fun, kind, funny person. She instantly draws you in with her heart, and as you get to learn who she is, you realize that there is so much more than what meets the eye. Astrid goes through a journey that is so relatable. The mental health representation is raw and real. And I think that's what I love most about Loren's characters. They are all so REAL.
The sarcastic humor, slow burn romance, and spicy goodness is all there too, which just makes the story even better.

How does Loren Lee keep coming up with these twisty, addicting stories? Every time I think I know where it’s going—bam—another surprise. And that ending? Perfect.

If I'm being honest, I think I liked this one better than Burn. Mostly because of Remy but also because of the mental health rep in it. I felt like I was reading parts of my own story and childhood.
I love that Astrid is learning how to stand on her own but also allows others to stand with her and behind her. The way she kept stacking support pillars in her journey had me rooting for her.

A bit of a let down after Burn
I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed book one… the love interests felt less natural, and it was kind of just a repeat of what had already happened. The story was alright, but didn’t keep me on the edge of my seat like the first one. The ending did throw me for a loop though!

If you know what it feels like to grieve a parent that is still living--this book is for you.
The men are just as hot in this book as they were in Burn, but the spice takes a backseat in this one. I appreciate the way the complex mental health themes and the trauma to all involved took center stage for Astrid's book. Astrid has always been the odd man out, the black sheep, the disappointment with no one to stand up and fight for her. And that is all too familiar.
In Sate, you get all the wit, charm, and sass that comes naturally in Loren's writing, but you also get a very raw and vulnerable healing journey that is worth all the tears you sob while you read. If I didn't already have pretty painted edge versions of these books, I would absolutely be going to order some after reading this masterfully woven tale of found family, grief, depression, true loyalty, and love.
The men are just as hot in this book as they were in Burn, but the spice takes a backseat in this one. I knew it! I just knew it! There was something about hank! This book is such a whirlwind of twists and turns.
Loren Lee did not disappoint with this duo. But I need more. 👀

Lordy. Where do I begin with this book? Honestly, you’ll have to read it yourself but the yearning and angst and spice are just so tangible. Don’t forget the betrayals and heart ache you feel for these characters. Please to pass over this book. You won’t regret it!
