My thoughts before reading: I don't give a flying shit what this book is about.

The cover! The cover is Jake Bass! Jake motherfuckin' Bass, folks!!!

After reading: You gotta admit the cover is hot. I believe he's the muse for main character Kade, the bad boy, damaged hotheaded hero who strips but has been around the block more than once. Kade is likeable enough. He's not a carbon copy of the model on the cover so don't think this is fan fic. ;)

What is Invicta about? This novella is about two lovers, Kade and Holt, who are celebrating their fifteen year anniversary and opening of their new strip club named Invicta. The two flashback to the start of their relationship, one surprising one night stand that turned into something more for the nineteen year old, Holt-who was in the closet and got yanked out and twenty year old Kade-who only wanted to have unattached sex. But life changes like a two week stretch of homelessness and working at a gay strip joint happen and start the beginning of Holt and Kade, the pair.

There are things I liked and things I feel need some work. Yes, this story has some editing issues. There were a few times that it brought me out of the story, not for every page thankfully.

What I liked: I liked the theme of the cocky guy falling for the country boy. I liked some of the themes explored such as a homeless teen finding love or damaged men finding their way into happiness. Also, it's very light and easy to read. The main characters are likeable. The story didn't denigrate the profession of stripping.

Things I questioned: Some editing issues and questions - The flashback takes you to 1999...how would twerking and the Harlem Shake be popular back then? I am aware that twerking is not a new phenomenon but I doubt it had a name in 1999. The Harlem Shake (well what's popular now-it has a resurgence and change, since I remember the original dance moves when it first became popular was more of a local thing, so I question the popularity in Houston, Texas back then).
- The technical terms for dancing - I'm not a professional dancer the more popular terms I knew. But there were technical terms used that I had to Google about. Also with some character's dialogue. This made the reading not as smooth as I like.
- More telling than showing. Kade was not as bad as he was touted as. He did have miraculous recovery from injuries at times and he got into a fight. I would have preferred to have more scenes of him proving why he gets automatic deference.
- There are some areas of the story that don't come off as realistic, so I pulled my reality suspension rubber band out for being able to tell someone is starving from just looking at them. Or fighting against a person with a gun while having no weapons and winning. Or while recovering from the drug roofies (vomiting and leg cramps get ignored) to have sex.

But it's a love story about two strippers with pasts that aren't as golden as most, so why look for reality?

The story is sexy, popular and mostly fun. It does not delve too deep and is quick to read.

Who I think would most enjoy this series? Fans of Kindle Alexander, who want to read a book in her same vein. This was a lighter, sexier and uncomplicated story. Fans of dancer romance, there's a good number of technical terms peppered throughout the story.

My rating is somewhere within the 3-3.5 hearts range, so I'll round up.

The story was good, sexy and I liked learning about how they met. There we're editing issues through the entire book that drove me nuts. The cover is perfect. I love me some Sexy Jake Bass. The epilogue confused Me I wasn't really sure who was supposed to be talking or whos thoughts they we're. Thank you to my bestie Amy for the quickie buddy read.

3.5 stars! Beautiful cover!! The story itself was good, sex was incredibly hot, but there were some editing issues. It wasn't that expensive of a book, so I won't get up on my soapbox about the typos and missing words, though it was kind of distracting. I will continue on with this series. Can't wait to see the next cover, hopefully it's Holt!!

The story of Kaiden and Holton is not only the steamiest m/m romance I've ever read but it also has great depth. They each have a past that is heartbreaking but in finding each other a connection forms that is almost instantaneous and together the healing process begins. Every time Piper Kay writes a book I deem it my favorite, that is until her next one comes out and that one quickly becomes my favorite. I have watched Piper become a master of m/m romance. Frankly before Piper Kay I had never read m/m before because I was just not interested in it .Well I'm here to tell you that she took me by the hand and led me into her world and I'm not leaving any time soon. Brava Piper!! I can't wait for the next book in this series!!

Once you can finally drag yourself away from staring at the cover you are met with a really nice story of growth and loyalty.
Throw in some freaking hot guys and some very steamy sex you have an amazing book. I couldn't put this book down, the connection between Holt and Kade gripped me. I wanted to hug them both (at the same time, don't mind if I do)
Also having Jake Bass as a visual isn't so bad either ;-)

Invicta: Salvation-Book One in the Invicta Series by Piper Kay!!!

Kaiden and Holt have been together for 15 years and now it's the grand opening of their new club, Invicta and now they're taking a look back at how they met. When they met, Holt wakes up to a very angry and abusive father and then finds himself homeless and alone in the world. He meets a guy who helps him out and starts to realize that maybe this was for the best. Kade has always avoided the closeness and intimacy and goes from guy to guy in search of what he has always longed for and then he meets Holt and everything changes.

I loved how the story starts out 15 years after the morning they met which takes them on their discovery of love for one another. I adored how much they mean to each other and how much they support one another. Holt has many insecurities which does seep into their relationship. Now it's up to Kade to prove to the man he loves that it's always been him and will only ever be him. It was hard to read how Holt's father treated him in such a hateful and disgusting way but very important to the story. This is a very realistic part of a gay man's life and so great that Piper wrote about something that happens all the time.

Pipers writing is so beautifully done and how she kept the lines from past and present so very clear and concise was very well done. The way the characters complimented each other was just so brilliantly written and you really felt their love for each other. I loved how Kade was the true bad boy but when it came to Holt, he gave himself completely to the man he loves which didn't come easily for Kade. The characters were so much fun to read and their journey and self discovery just made for a beautiful love story. I truly cherished the relationship between these two men and what they meant to each other. In this world it's just the two of them and their love will withstand any outside forces that try to separate them. I highly recommend this beautiful love story to anyone who wants to know the absolute true meaning of what love actually means.

4 GO GO DANCING STARS

Let me just say – this is one Hot Cocky Cover….Who doesn’t love a little Jake Bass?

Yes Piper Kay does not disappoint with this story of finding love, no matter what your gender is. She brings into perspective what it means to be accepted for who you are through pain, forgiveness, desire and passion.

This story between Kade and Holt is sweet, sexy and touching. We are given an insight into their past and how they became to be partners and a peek at what their future holds with the new club Invicta.

Both Kade and Holt have troubled pasts - possibly one worse than the other, but they find each other, in more ways than one, and form a connection that is hard to shake for either of them. They are so different and similar in so many ways – that they really were made for each other.

Their connection grows and we see both of them heal in their own ways and watch as they each rebuild their lives together and mend each other through their love and dedication to one another.

Piper entertains us with her real and raw dialogue and sexy portrayal of male stripper moves at the clubs – even if the clubs were seedy. I’m sure Piper had fun researching this.

Kade
His left eyebrow arches into a peak, and it’s over.

I tap out, down for the count. Funny how after all these years, the man can still stop me dead in my damn tracks with a stare.

“Want me as much as I want you, Kade?” He slides an open palm across his bare stomach several times, going all sexy stripper mode with it.
I drop down on the mattress and call him over with the crook of my finger.

He shakes no, then grins. “I have something for you. Give me a second.” He walks over and hits the CD player, then walks out of the bedroom door.

As I’ve said before in my Piper Kay reviews, she really brings out the message of unconditional love, growth and loyalty.

Even though there were a few editing and grammatical errors, I enjoyed this story and looked over it as it really brings home what love and loyalties are all about. I only wish it was a little bit longer so we got more of Kade and Holt.

Looking forward to reading the next installment with Invicta Sanctuary. Have you seen the cover. HOT, HOT, HOT

I would like to be very clear, this book was very good. I loved the characters and the story, and im a huge fan of M/M romance. It can very easily be a 5 star read for me if a few things are addressed. First, Kade has a wall built around him and he keeps people out, but the author never explains that. We don’t know why Kade is the way he is, and to be honest, he isn’t really as hard ass as its first described. I need to know why he runs from any type of commitment. And honestly, he doesn’t even run from Holton. Kade’s situation is very poorly described so we really don’t know why he is described as closed off when he really isn’t. I think the story moves too fast and needs to slow down a bit and some things explained.Holton’s story really needs a bit more description as well. I can see that his father is a major problem but you get no background on that or on him and again, it just makes the story seem like its moving way too fast.On the whole, Kade and Holton are hot as hell, separate and as a couple and the M/M sex scenes, Holy hotness … I didn’t really need those panties anyway. Piper Kay absolutely knows how to write a sex scene… Kudos Girl !! This book has some huge potential to be a 5 star read. It really just needs a bit more background on the characters and some build up in the flashback scenes from when they first met. It doesn’t give you a lot on their past. Only a few weeks and they are back in present time. I’d like to see more on their first year or 2, not to mention their individual pasts to get more on why they are the way they are when they first meet. It was too quick, so I’d suggest adding about 60 or so pages and give it something more to sink our teeth into. It could also use some editing. The grammar is a bit off as well as some spelling. Nothing horrible, but enough that it is noticeable.I would absolutely be willing to give this another try if it were worked on and added to a bit and I would also recommend this book because it really was pretty good. It just needs some looking after a bit.

Short, Sexy and oh so Steamy!! Piper Kay has taken her love for a certain Cockyboy (her cover model) and built a love story around him, for him, and it is definitely porn on paper, but not in a bad way.

Kaiden McKenzie is all attitude and ink. Very much a loner and happy with that, he doesn't get emotionally invested. But what should have been a one night stand with a cute cowboy is about to become the ride of his life. When Holt Mitchell's father finds him and Kade the morning after, he flips and kicks his son out. Kade feels for the guy and while the sex was pretty fantastic, he refuses to get involved. Over the next twenty four hours though, Kade becomes very emotionally involved and when Holt is put in harms way, Kade stakes his claim.

This story starts fifteen years after that morning after when Kade was a shoulder for Holt to cry on. They've become lovers and best friends and now they are opening their dream business together. But Holt still battles insecurity where his partner is concerned, and Kade has to prove to his man that he is the only one for him. I don't always like stories that go from present to past and back to the present, but Kay kept the time lines clear and the way this story was written was vital to the presence of the characters.

As I said in the beginning, this book is Kay's homage to her favorite gay porn star, cockyboy Jake Bass, he is Kade in every way, shape and form. The attitude, the tattoos, the way he exudes confidence and sex appeal... Kay managed to carry all of that over into the character of Kade. I loved the way they balanced each other out. While they were wildly different people they came together and Holt showed Kade that he was worthy of love, while Kade protects Holt and gives him a part of himself that he's never given to anyone else. It's a bad boy love story! I cannot wait for book two.

INVICTA: Salvation

By: Piper Kay

I have to say this; Piper Kay was the woman who introduced me to M/M romance/ erotic. I had turned it down a few times but I was gifted one of her books and it just sat there in my library, until one day…… One day I was bored, had nothing to do and was looking for something to read. There it was Twisted Cherry. It was a short book so I decided I would give it a try. And heaven behold I WAS HOOKED I wanted more and SO I GOT more. When I herd Invicta was coming out I just knew I had to have it. Once I got it I could not put it down. And when I was finished I yelled at piper telling her I needed more. But I was told I had to wait just like everyone else.

The plot of the story was well written. I like how the POV’S change and they tell it thru their own eyes. I never dislike a character in a book but this book had one that I just did not like at all. And all I am going to say is that he is in the beginning of the book.

Now as far as the Main two oh I was in love. Now I love the cover model on the book. He fits Kade to the tee and man is he HOTT!!!

Holt was so cute acting all innocent and I love how these boys met and cannot wait to get the rest of the story.

Over all I give this book a 4 and half star rating for the over all of the book the editing on the book ok and structured right but I feel as if it could have been a little better. But that did not affect how much I loved the story or the plot.

Wonderfully written book, told primarily in flashback with two POVs. That's not easy to pull off but Piper Kay has done an amazing job of making the techniques work and highly readable.
We begin in the future of the story, with Kade and Holt celebrating their 15th anniversary and the opening of their club Invicta. Then we flashback to when they met and the true meaning of their anniversary comes out loud and clear.
Holt is caught in bed with another young man and all hell breaks loose from his abusive father. Thrown out with no money and no where to go, Holt is at a loss. This is well presented, with all the horror of "what the hell do I do now" and the heartbreak of losing the safety of his family and his future of going to college.
The boy he was in bed with is Kade, but Holt doesn't even know his name, and Kade has no intention of taking on the burden of this homeless waif. Kade is a stripper and believes Holt is too innocent to survive in his world so he tries to distance himself from Holt. It doesn't work.
Many ups and downs lead to love and a future together but it's a journey to get to that point.
A wonderfully written book and I'm eager to read the next one in the series.

I won the second book in a competition, so needed to get this one so I could start at the beginning. Being such a cover whore (I do judge a book by it's cover!!) this had me....Jake Bass.....stick a fork in me I'm done!!!

This is a novella read and packed quite a lot in, only delving lightly in some bits and heavy in the others...Holt is the 18 year old country boy kicked out by his father, Kade is the 20 year old dancer in a strip club that comes to his rescue on more than one occasion, but tries keeping him at arms length. There is a flashback on how they met 15 years earlier and then back to the present day and the opening of their club.

I had a few niggles through the read, the heavy descriptive of dance moves felt a little overboard and there was not enough back story for Kade. I love an epilogue.....but.....this was not, nope, no siree!!! It was sub-titled a teaser for the second book - but it's a very confused and sad teaser as you had no clue whose head you were in....please throw me a clue....an intro to this would've been helpful......

Overall, it was a quick read, held my attention and I'm looking forward to reading book 2.

Whoever said a great book ends with a HEA (happily ever after) did not read THIS ONE. Unlike all the others, we get our “HEA” at the beginning!

From the first page to the last, we get a peek into the beginning of the lives of Kaiden and Holt as they begin on their adventure of overcoming resisting the attraction between one another to celebrating 15 years together and opening ‘Invicta’ a male go-go club.
Within the pages, Holt wakes up to a hateful father who kicks him out of his home for his choice of ‘lifestyle’ and he finds himself depending on Kaiden, a tattooed bad boy who in the end has a soft spot for Holt. Through their insecurities, self discoveries and trials, they find not only themselves, but each other.
Through only a short story, Piper tells the struggles that many young gay men face and does not disappoint the reader in any way. Short, steamy, fun and emotional! All wrapped up in a small package!

I am a HUGE Piper Kay fan gurl I could stare at that cover forever and ever........secret......I have already. We meet Kade who is in the process of opening a go go boy club Invicta Kade has spent the day auditioning the dancers and he is massively late getting home to his partner Holt who is at home waiting to celebrate their 15th anniversary together. Kade is a bit nervous about what mood he will find Holt in. He walks in the house is too dark no dinner waiting its worse than he thought. Holt has a jealous streak. As he as once a gogo dancer and knows what the hotties dancing for Kade would do to get a job. I loved how Ms Kay set the story up we go back to how they met the reader can appreciate their relationship. I can not wait for the next one beyond excited.

This book is fire! Okay, if that isn't enough of an explanation for you, let me continue. This book is an engaging tale of coming of age and finding one's place in the world. It is so funny. Piper Kay keeps the reader on their toes with the hilarious banter between the characters and their flawless executions of popular dances like the Dougie. Yes, as in, "Teach Me How to Dougie."

As for the romance, Piper is no slouch there either. We're talking all of the fire engines at the fire station are needed to douse the flames coming off of this book. I had a great time laughing at, loving, and burning with these characters. I am so thirsty for the next installment.

Terrific and HOT as only Piper Kay can write characters with depth. I loved the relationship between Kade and Holt. The street smart Kade was made for the unsuspecting country bumpkin Holt. The time they spent in the sheets was insta-wet, hot and then some. Oh, did I mention hot?? Because it was very, very exciting, explosive, exceptional and HOT!! It was also very entertaining the way the dancing was described, Piper Kay must have done intense researching to learn so much about the difficult moves. I truly appreciate any and all she had to suffer for her craft....I really enjoyed this story. I highly recommend this book!!!!

Great start to a new series. Kade & Holt are a couple who grab your attention from the first chapter. The author goes from present day to past memories without making it feel choppy. We start off in present day with Kade and Holt celebrating their 15 year anniversary and their soon to be grand opening of their new business adventure, Invicta. While celebrating they reminisce about how they met. Then we flashback to 1999, where the real story takes place.

Holt. Sexy cowboy with a fucked up home life who just wants to hurry up and go to college on a football scholarship. Holt is still in the closet about his sexuality until what was supposed to be a one night stand ends up changing his entire life.

killer abs

Kade. Oh my sweet control freak, territorial, bad boy who tries everything to get away from Holt. No attachments. One night stand. Don't need any drama in his life. He's got enough on his plate already without having to take care of an innocent, naive and sexy Holt. But this bad boy does have a conscious and the way Holt sucks on that lip, mmmm... irresistible.

sexy and slow

My first thought when I sat down to read this was, male strippers?

dance party

'Oh please, oh please, oh please be good'. I wasn't sure how it was going to work with strippers and dancing and how to convey that through text. I didn't want to read about a bunch of technical terms that I'm unfamiliar with and end up pulling me out of the story....

fingers crossed

Well, well, well, I don't even know why I was worried. Its The Piper Mutha Fuckin' Kay that were talking about here. I mean... I should be bent over and spanked for even thinking that... please ;) I love Piper Kay's books and she's not ever let me down. Shame on me for doubting the Queen of Cocks... The Snake Charming Mistress... Sheriff of the Cum Guns... Pied Piper of the Penis...

magic dong

The little bit of dancing that was in here was somewhat easy to follow. There were a couple of times it was difficult for me to picture what was going on. So I've added a couple of gifs to help with the visualization...

body roll
hip roll

Sex, sex, sex!! FUCK YEAH! I love the way Piper Kay writes a sex scene. Doesn't matter what book you're reading from her... there will always be something for everyone. Sexy, hot and sometimes even masturbation worthy. Kade and Holt are really hot together. I love the chemistry that these two have.

sexy mm kiss

"Cowboy, you were down on the bathroom floor having a near death experience about five hours ago, you can't handle this hotness."

Challenge accepted!
oh yeah

I bet you're wondering why I only gave it 4 stars. Ahem, these are just minor things really. There is one part in the novella that Holts name is spelled Hoyt. Hello True Blood country boy. Also the dancing reference to the Roger Rabbit is ok but the twerking and Harlem Shake I think are fairly new terms. So, I asked Master Google and from what I could find out Harlem Shake came about in 2013. Maybe there is another Harlem Shake that I wasn't aware of in the 90's which is totally possible. Twerking on the other hand... according to the 'Oxford Dictionary Online' said the word had been around for 20 years. I know, I know... I docked it a star for this because this is the only thing that pulled me from the story. I actually stopped reading so I could look it up.

twerk it out

Overall Invicta: Salvation rocked out with its cock out. The story never once got dull and it flowed really well. I think this could have been a longer book and I think Kade has a lot more back story to tell. There was just a touch of suspense and it made my heart skipped a couple of beats, but I wasnt left hanging on the hook long. I just loved Salvation and I can't wait to read the next one!

I'll leave you with this. One of my favorite quotes...

"Goddammit, stop. No, wait. Yes.... just fuckin' hell! I yank my dick in my hand and curl my fingers around myself, squeezing as tight as I can. I'm practically strangling the fucker to stop blood flow to it. Focus on old pussy, yeah, anything that stops this. My head starts throbbing now too, great. Please don't let that mean hot dick blood just invaded my brain because that things gets out of hand and doesn't think rational. I'll end up dead or running off to the alter or something."
