Varg is getting to know this world, and he likes it more and more, despite the dangers lurking around every corner. But what if the gnomes make an incursion and take everything and anything away to their world, including humans, whom they consider fair game? This book will include new tasks and new worlds into which the System will throw him. For example, a world inhabited by abominable snakes, or an elven world in which Varg will receive a valuable prize. Also appearing in our world will be necromancers. Many adventures lie ahead for him, for he is Varg, and he thinks he will cope admirably with any difficulty.
Not as good as books one and two, but still a good read
Books 1 and 2 had me laughing out loud at the interactions between the main character and the women (and children) in his life. Book 3 essentially dropped that character building and interaction in favor of more zombie and other nemesis fighting action. Additionally, the introduction of characters that then disappear from the story for no reason is a bit distracting. Perhaps it is just me but bringing up a character again that had been introduced and seemingly abandoned in a previous book (without a reminder of who they are) is confusing and annoying. this book is worth reading, but I will not read it twice (like I did with the first two books).
I really enjoy the writing. Sure, I occasionally come across a mis-translated word, but it's still so cool. Varg is the main character. His self-talk is delicious. I don't speak Russian and can't even imagine how this inner dialogue must be written so that it's translated into pop English and as cool as an ice cube. Read it and see for yourself.
As for the story, I got lost here. Varg and his buddies have a skyscraper in some city. There are zombies around. Periodically, the System holds "tests." Varg always goes, and always wins. Those are generally not connected to the ongoing post-apocalyptic story arc, but Varg gets good rewards and he levels up. He's probably the strongest monster on earth.
But in this book the plot seems to stop. Other bands of survivors fight with Varg's band. Then some little people come through a portal to build a town in the subway. Some necromancers come through a portal and bring unlimited zombies with them; zombies that they control like an army. The numbers of both are mind-boggling.
By the end of the book it doesn't feel like there is a path to a conclusion. Despite Varg's power, someone else is bringing huge numbers to take away everything he's tried to save. I'm glad to see that there is a 4th book because I am really curious about where this story is going.
This is my standard boilerplate announcement that I write these reviews with speech to text on my phone so if they’re spelling typo, something doesn’t make sense. I’m sorry not sorry .
I’m really enjoying this, but the problem is it’s written like it’s a WebNovel slice of life that goes day by day by day by day I don’t need to know when he goes to bed and when he wakes up to show the time elapsing, I would appreciate periods of time where it skips forward to use time as a plot device to progress towards the huge power scale indicated in the game. They’re also seems to be a lot of other mechanisms for progression within or even maybe outside the system and we have no information on how those power scales compare to the protagonist. This drives me nuts. There’s a lot about this that’s fun and there’s a lot about this. That’s completely arbitrary.
I received a review copy of this book. Book 3 is continuing the story, and it does it very well. I'm not sure anyone ever calls the invaders gnomes, so don't exactly know where that particular name came from in the book description, but nonetheless, the story does advance the world quite a bit, and we get to see the main character actually being cautious for a change. Definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
I don't know why some LitRPG authors start off writing actual LitRPG books, only to all-but-abandon that format later in the series. Book 3 of this series is the latest example of an author choosing that path. Gone are *all* of the detailed stats and there's only the most cursory nod to even levels in the book. Where previous books had tons of loot, which was an integral part of the story, the author deliberately and consciously starts toning down the loot in this book.
The story is still interesting, but what used to be a great series is now just a mediocre, standard post apocalyptic zombie series.
Varg continues his lifestyle, unchanged from the previous volume. He keeps neglecting his harem, keeps up hypocritical insults of foes, keeps spouting casual racism, keeps killing for fun and profit, and keeps surviving "impossible" scenarios. New foes emerge, but Varg fights the same way he always has - with his overpowered stealth-archer build. It is disappointing that a series with so much potential has fallen into a rut. The next book will probably be the last one I read.
This book in the series remains fun and interesting. This edition in the series was much slower and felt like more of a transition book to set up the world more. Although the main character increased in power, it really had no bearing on the world around him. The OP'd abilities seem to have evened out and really every encounter seem to drag. That said, still a fun simple read.
Just when you think you have the zombie apocalypse all figured out the system throws a burning cavalcade of wtf at you. What is our favorite sociopath to do? Roll with the punches, kidnap/rescue and elven princess and smash zombies of course! Book 3 starts with a bang and ends with an even bigger Grenade! Bring on book 4!
I didn't care for this book as much as the others I feel like the MC's enemies are getting way better the vary to point where it feels lopsided and boring hope next book is better
This is book 3 in the series. I continue to enjoy reading this series. There is plenty of action, interesting zombies and characters. The MC is interesting and snarky which i like in a main character. He is also kind of reckless which makes the story interesting when he gets himself into troublesome situations.
I look forward to continuing the series with the action and adventure as well as to see how the system progresses.
This is a series that I get an ARC of. I check the translation from Russian to English. This is one of the stories that once I finish, I'm looking forward to getting the next ARC in the series. It's just a fun read for me.
This is one of my favorite authors. I really enjoy every book he has written and am always looking forward to the next book.
We get more of the MC being a sociopath in this book.
8/10 The reviews of the rest of this series will show the same review. I'm trying to help out authors by putting up reviews for the ARCs that have been sent to me.
