In her mind, Jan is a modern-day Austen protagonist.

As a child, she created elaborate stories involving a pretend cattle ranch guarded by vegetarian dinosaurs and went on adventures with her stuffed teddy bear, creatively named Ted.

After getting out of college in four years (an astounding feat) she began a career in advertising and marketing. Extensive reading during work travel rekindled her imagination and her Rock, Paper, Scissors series was born. These YA Urban Fantasy books are full of action, snark and a hint of romance.

Now she writes full-time in her hometown of New Orleans. The city is its own character in her 22 book paranormal romance series. Those feature a variety of Supernatural Main Characters in search of love. An enchanted deck of tarot cards adds a unique twist to the interwoven storylines of her G.R.I.T.S. books.

Jan Mau Hill writes fast-paced books featuring clever and bold heroines. If that sounds interesting, she’s the author for you.

DNF @ 65%

Giving a 3 star because I did love the concept. I also liked the personification of panic. I liked how she struggled with her mental health.

But I DNFd for a few reasons. There were way too many characters. Also, maybe it's my fault. Maybe I should have read book one to get a full explanation of the tarot cards. It was explained but not enough imo. The main character also had other abilities of absorbing emotions and changing into a were cat.

There was alot going on. I have ADHD and maybe that's why I was struggling to keep it all straight? It got to the point where I was so lost in the case. I had no clue what was happening because too many people were becoming suspects or involved somehow. And I know that's how mysteries are but this one had so much other stuff going on it made it that much tougher to keep straight.

I was hoping for a cozy mystery and more of a romance.

A wonderful addition to the Tarot Card series of paranormal romances. Discover Amanda’s secrets and watch as she attempts to heal from past trauma with the help of Manda, her were-cat and Judy, her internal non-corporal spirit. Join the supernatural community of New Orleans as they pull together to solve a mystery affecting many of their own. A great read that makes me look forward to the next book in the series. I've enjoyed them all and each one is better than the last.
