The Librarian has a race to win, a message to send, and he’s surrounded by clowns.
Television is back and the Omega Run is the biggest show in the wasteland. Contestants from all over travel to The Cleave to compete for a chance at stardom in what is billed as the Last Race You’ll Ever Run.
The Librarian and his friends are looking to send a message, and Cleave TV's reach is unmatched. All he has to do is win a race through what’s left of Cleveland where he’ll encounter the dreaded war bison, brutal ballerinas, post-apocalyptic hockey players, a circus full of killers and more.
But he’s not the only Librarian in the game. Thomas Caine and his Remnant allies are interested in doing a broadcast of their own.
It’s simple. Two Librarians enter. Only one can win.
The Duck and Cover Adventures continue in book six, Champion of the Apocalypse.
It’s the end of the world as you’ve never known it in this laugh-out-loud look at the apocalypse that readers are calling “Mad Max meets Monty Python” and “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Wasteland.
Dang it Ben, Benjamin, Mr Wallace! I started and finished it in 2 days. ( one if I didn’t have family obligations.) I love the series and love the action. I know you put your heart into these books and appreciate the humor. The fun references and light take on a dark subject is great in this time of “unease”. Also, thanks for your short stories to keep me satisfied in between. I believe I have read everything you have done and now the wait begins. Many years ago, I got to see and meet on of my music heroes ( don’t laugh but Peter Tork of the Monkees). I was a basket case and while waiting for him to sign my cd of his music, my mind blanked on the witty but thought provoking question I had for him, I asked when his next cd was coming out! He glared at me and said I took years to get this one done, financed and out, enjoy this one as good music doesn’t just happen for most. Why the story, I’m done and I can’t wait for more but good stuff takes time. I will wait.
Loved every other book in the series, this one just didn’t seem to vibe with the spirit of the character, just to get a message on TV he is gonna compete in a death race and kill other competitors that were only doing the race to get a better life, did not feel like a path The Librarian would have taken. Book just felt off and out of place but still a fun enough book to keep me entertained, maybe I’m taking it to seriously. The 4 stars include one bonus star because he is one of my favorite authors and still hope the story continues.

I really enjoyed this series and this final (so far) book. At first it felt a little claustrophobic to me compared to the past books where Jerry was running around in wasteland. I love a good wasteland! But I warmed to the story as it went on, despite Jerry being stuck in dystopian Cleveland. I am going to miss Eve and Chewy and Sasquatch but, most of all, I'm going to miss Fidget the talking Beagle! I recently lost my Beatle mix after 18 years so Fidget was extra special to me. I swear every time that Beagle opened his mouth I fell hopelessly into uncontrolled guffaws. My favorite part was when Fidget got so excited he forgot to bark like a dog and instead was running around yelling the word "Bark!" in his human voice. That darn Beagle, good boy Fidge, good boy.
The Duck and Cover books are a wild and fun ride. This looks like it may be the last story about The Librarian but the ending was satisfying. Do yourself a favor and read these books in series order. That's the best way to go. It lets you see characters as they are introduced into the world of the apocalypse.
A Grand Finish to an Excellent Series...Hope I'm Wrong
The novel did an excellent job of reinvigorating the Duck and Cover Series. It had got really serious and the humor was waning some. Here in the Cleve, the post apocalypse is seen in a way never imagined with a large helping of humor keeps the story interesting and thought provoking.
I have truly enjoyed this series with the first book being one of my favorite books of all time, however, this one was a little off. It felt like a "small" adventure for the famed Librarian that went against his character and abilities. Hey, they can't all be bangers! I'll still read the next chapter (if there is one).
The Duck and Cover books never fail to deliver. Fun dialogue and engaging storytelling. Spoilers… you can expect a death race that includes Chad the Lifeguard, a Horrorsaurus, and not one… but two Librarians. I highly recommend these books.
I loved this book. It kind of reminded me of running man but even more ludicrous if you can believe that! Another great book in the duck and cover series.
