We’ve finally reached the end of this emotional roller coaster. When we met Journal, she was just a quiet girl, working to make ends meet, and living with so much childhood trauma. She didn’t know her worth, and she was so deserving of being loved. Now, here she is, over a year later since being in that dark place, and so much has changed. She’s dating one of the biggest bosses out of Miami, and is about to enter into motherhood. She has an amazing relationship with her big sister Harmony, but it’s been difficult to have that same relationship with Bryani.
Because of the troubles from Bryani’s past, it’s left her running, and ruining her chance of reuniting with her sisters. Journal is so strong willed and she’s determined to have Bryani in here life, no matter the dangers that may arise.
Genesis has his own family drama this time around. After being lied to for so many years about where he really came from, how can he forgive Stitches? He has so many questions that he needs answers to, and he doesn’t care the lengths that he must undergo to get it.
Take one last ride with the characters from my good girl. Lies will come to the light, bonds may be broken, and in that same breath, some bonds will form along the way. This read will guarantee you to be on the edge of your seat, so buckle up for the ride.
Some editing *did* happen, but clearly not enough. "Quiet" and "quite" are **not** the same thing, and the fact that we had to read this mistake 39474 times is outrageous. It’s giving careless. There were also other errors that really dragged this book down a few stars for me.
Now, onto the story itself: I’m sorry, but this was a **drag** of a series. Journal had potential back in book one—she was just a girl in a tough spot trying to do her best (which, let’s be honest, wasn’t much, but still). Fast-forward to book three, and she’s basically the same person. The only difference? Her man isn’t broke anymore, and now she cries all the time. Where is the growth? Sure, she has a little more self-confidence thanks to Slick, but outside of that? No job, no education, no hobbies, no therapy—just the same traumatized, indecisive, childish individual we met at the start.
And let’s talk about “Da-Da.” That single detail *alone* made this a one-star read for me. I’m sorry, but **WTF**? It wasn’t cute, it wasn’t sexy—it was **weird** and gave me the worst ick. Throughout the book, Journal was selfish and inconsiderate. Slick’s entire world was crumbling—his arch-nemesis is dead, he finds out his mom was a liar, his bio mom was a junkie, the man who held him at gunpoint *might* be his brother, he lost a little brother he never got to meet, he’s about to become a dad, and oh, he’s still running his illegal business. Meanwhile, all Journal could do was cry and complain about a cold shoulder? Girl. If you could turn your brain on at any point, we (the readers) would truly appreciate it.
As for Slick, he was *okay.* Stitches, though? Sorry, but she gave *dummy.* If that was my son, I’m investigating it *DOWN,* foul or not. Everyone just glazed over his death like, “Oh, he was trifling, moving onnnn.” Huh? This can’t be the same gangster-gangster lady who molded Slick into who he is. But then again, Slick was dumb this entire series, too, because how did Winnie make it to the end of the story?
The Briyani plot had potential, but it was over as soon as it started. That was the most interesting part, and the abrupt resolution made it boring.
Overall, the series started decently but ended poorly. It felt like the author didn’t take the time to really flesh things out and get as deep as she could’ve. Journal’s arc (or lack thereof) was frustrating—she’s just… *there.* What’s the message here? That you can get saved and live happily ever after as long as a man takes care of you? Like, sis, what are you teaching your girls? “Your daddy rescued me, and here I am!” What else, though? Who are you *outside* of Slick? What do you bring to the table? How do you stand in your own womanhood? Like I just needed more from her even personality wise she was a wet blanket and hard to even connect with. I get everyone isn’t tough but whewww idk man
And don’t even get me started on her delusion. Why was she romanticizing Hakeem like he was a saint? The man was **mean AF** when we met him, dogging her out and giving her bad sex. Yet here she is, talking about his childhood dreams like he was misunderstood. Girl shut up about him cus he may have been nice when yall was kids but who was he before he died? Like sorry you not gonna glamorize this weird ass man. Like idk the tone and dynamic of the main characters just didn’t sit right with me something was off. Journal gave teen girl and I hate that for us. Also if you gonna include it we need a real resolution or some sort of forward motion. Sure China started off a deadbeat, but that man was verbally abusive and I can only imagine what he had been saying to her in private, so while I get you don’t get to tell people how to act towards you when you in the wrong I didn’t get his beef at all, like she’s trying and actually doing why you always talking out your neck? Man was obsessed with Farrell yet he had a whole new partner so that was exhausting and led no where. Cus in Chinas final chapter he was still going like WHATS HIS ISSUE ???
This story started out good but it got annoying. Way too many grammatical errors and messing up names. Plus it didn’t need to be 3 books. I skipped through the last book.
First being that Journal is hella annoying, like the amount of times I rolled my eyes when she was whining and worrying about stuff out of her control. Calling her boyfriend da-da is cringy 😐
China’s story was not needed, and her reasoning for not being a good mother was BS. Like why did your new man have to convince you to be a mom? Her story was just unnecessary and pointless. Like be fr, you just didn’t want to be a mother. Her kids dad is trifling too because you come at her sideways but why yall kids not with you full time?
Lastly, Grady’s reason for killing Cyrus was dumb. Maybe I’m heartless but that was not his fault. Whether he sold that gun to his brother or not, Cyrus wasn’t really responsible for that. If someone is going to off themselves, it’s nothing you can do to stop them. And if you really think about it, Genesis weird af because why you got your mom(stitches) around her son’s killer? I like Genesis but I side eyed him when it came to this situation and questioned his loyalty to his mother(stitches).
This was an okay series. My BIGGEST ISSUE was the grammatical errors. She needs a good editor. The author would forget her characters names at one point Winnie became Willow and then Winnie again. Or she would forget something said and then it would be something totally different at a different point in the story. I’m sorry those errors throw off the story to me. Also Journal was quite annoying. And speaking of “quite” the author kept using this word when I’m sure she meant “quiet”. Genesis was cool. Glad he got a relationship with his biological family. China and her reason for being a bad mom just made no sense to me but atleast she redeemed herself. Even though I feel like it shouldn’t have taken a man for her to want to be a better mom.
I give this story a 3 stars. I don’t think it needed 3 books. I skimmed the 80 percent of the book.
In this installment Journal and Slick went through familial trials and tribulations. After discovering that her sister, Harmony is a singer that goes by “Princess” and that her brother Bryce now is a transgender woman that goes by “Briyani”, Journal and Slick is also given the news that she is pregnant with twins. Journal is crying more than ever in this book lol. She learns that Briyani starts to ignore her calls and text because Briyani is fleeing from a dangerous scandal that she was involved in back in Atlanta and doesn’t know how she can trust. Meanwhile, Slick gets some new information from Stitches as to how she found him initially which leads to a falling out between them and him finding his biological mother and a new brother. There was a lot of different things happening within this installment, and Slick and Journal was in the midst of it all lol. I gave this book 3 stars!
The story was good, however, at times the writing style felt a tad bit juvenile. There were a lot of typos and alot of run on sentences. It seemed as if she had to make the book a certain word count so she just added a bunch of unnecessary filler words. Though I enjoy this author’s books (I’ve read all of them), the typos kind of take away from the enjoyment of it.
I am truly a fan but this was my least favorite series… I will still continue to support the author because I have never not liked a book. I didn’t like Genesis. And I didn’t see any change in Journal. I did enjoy her reconnecting with her sisters, but she was still a whiny baby that they treated as such. I did like Grady and Farrell. I enjoyed how Farrell pushed China to be better, but would she have done it without him?
I didnt even finish this book entirely simply because it was super predictable and no character growth the repeated sentences and story lines and over explaining what WE ALREADY KNOW CUZ WE READ IT ALREADY !!!! If i read a book and skip 2 to 3 pages and still am able to keep up should tell u everything right there like please be fr ! telling me what i already read in the first and second book just to make a 3 book series was exhausting the story itself was good but the dragging it out to fulfill a 3 book deal is beyond me will possibly try this author again but from this alone probably not
I’m disappointed in this final chapter. To be honest it was kind of boring. I felt like there was a lot of filler in this series to stretch it to 3 books. Honestly, this could have been done all in one book. There was no need for three parts.
Journal literally brought nothing to this series, what was her purpose other than to complain and cry. Even the story about finding her siblings was dry. Also the da-da nickname was very cringe, not only that but the misused words and character names being changed midway through the book made it not as enjoyable to read.
It was also hard to connect with the story because so much of it was like reading a summary of events (too much description and not enough dialogue). Yes, please tell me how they are feeling and navigating their emotions as things are happening. But don’t give me a 3 page monologue that feels like a summary of events. It was a lot of telling what was happening, especially day to day things that didn’t matter instead of showing. Part 1 was a good read but parts 2 & 3 just felt like a drag. Hopefully the next book from this author is better.
A great ending for a series! Genesis and Journal were meant for each other! Genesis was perfect for Jourrnal, he motivated her and provided her with unconditional love, like no other! Genesis gaining his biological family was so special, everyone wants to know their bloodline! I understood Stitches reason for holding Genesis biological information away from him, but as he became an adult, she would have been forthcoming! Genesis reassuring Stitches that she would always be his mama was something she needed to hear! Genesis and Journal both had their long lost family in their lives! I loved the epilogue and I can't wait for the wedding! Oh, Grady and Harmony were sweet as well!
Journal and Genesis have been thru so much in their past and now they are parents of twins. And planning their wedding on Valentine's Day. Journal has had a hard life in foster care and being ripped from her family not knowing what's on with her siblings. Harmony Princess Braxton the sing the older sister went thru a tramarmatic events in her life with abuse she is in a stable relationship with Grady who is Genesis biological brother . Genesis founds out about his biological mother and brothers. Bryson (aka) Bryani is a foster child transgender who had strict parents who wouldn't accept her. She meets Journal and then Siblings. She has been thru so and got caught up in so mess in Alanta.
This was the perfect ending to this series! It was sad what happened to Cyrus, but he had wronged so many people. Genesis deserved the happiness of finding out the truth about his biological mother and her family. That brought him peace. He and Journal having their families to support them when they had the babies was important. All of the Braxton sisters were happy because they had each other again and they each had peace and love in their lives. Genesis had both of his families plus the one that he had created. This was outstanding read! I can't wait to read about the wedding!
Overall, this was a good read. It's crazy how Genesis and Grady met one another, and it turns out they are blood brothers. Missy has been through a lot, but I am glad that she overcame all her demons and she got clean, and now she can have a relationship with Genesis. Stitches surprised me because I thought she was going to be petty towards Missy, but that wasn't the case. Bryani took Journal through it, but in the end, I was soooooooo happy that her Bryani and Harmony could have the relationship as siblings like they always wanted. I'm so glad that China stepped up to be the good mother that Farrell knew she could be.
I was excited when I started this series, but honestly Journal didn’t give main character energy at all. All the whining and crying had me skipping through her chapters because honestly her storyline gave nothing, but weak energy. Lowkey I would have rather read about china’s story or maybe Bryani’s. The whole Slick beefing with his adopted mama thing was drug out too long. I knew after book 2 I was going to be low-key disappointed in this series, by I still held hope the author would pull it together. I was wrong. Oh well on to my next book.
This series had a good storyline and character development but there were too many typos and run on sentences for me. "And" was used up to 5 times in some sentences. Your was used instead of you're and their was used instead of there multiple times. I found myself correcting the mistakes in my head which was extremely distracting. I finished the series because I was invested in the story and I thought the editing might get better by book 3. It didn't. It could just be me...but if you can deal with these issues, you'll enjoy this series.
Diamond D did it again… Journal and Genesis Finally have the happy ever after they both reconcile with their families, everyone getting along well for the sake of journal and Genesis .. He now have a brother named Grady journal have a sister, harmony and Breanna, Grady, and harmony are a couple genesis and journal are getting married final book for Valentine’s Day. Yes I Cannot wait to read it. Both couples Couple been through so much?.. I’m happy to see you there’s happiness and love at the end of the tunnel..
So the books were good but some things in the series got on my nerves. I was so tried of Journal her character in the series made me sick. Journal was too clingy, now what woman is always jumping up on her man like that? It was stupid that he had to use the bathroom while carrying her. I hated the fact that she cried all the time. The book was predictable as well especially when Gray and Harmony were mentioned I knew that he would end up being Genesis brother. I will continue with reading books by this author.
This series started out okay. But as time went on I really started to dislike Journal. She was childish insecure and immature. She cried about everything the nickname she had for Genesis was absolutely stupid. Then the way she acted a few times in certain situations made me absolutely not like her at all. Even though she didn’t work after she got with her man she had no goals dreams or plans for life. Even when she was cleaning she had no mind set or dreams or plans for life or success. That’s not very attractive.
All three books were amazing. So happy the sisters found their way back to each other. Journal and Genesis definitely were made for each other! I am happy she is experiencing a soft life. Heck all three Braxton sisters needed that! I loved the bond between Journal and China. Everyone needs that one friend that can actually see you and they were that for each other. The side stories with the sisters and China were also great! Loved to see the bio mom have a happy ending too! Everyone got what they deserved in this book!
This author is another one of my favorites!!! This story was packed with love💗, family, a llttie drama, street and spice. I loved that Slick found has bio family. He was such a good guy, loving and spoiling his Journal. I loved the bond between the sisters and brothers. I was glad Slick got back on track with his mom and his bio mom got clean. Can't wait for the wedding, definitely⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Genius was that guy and he love him some Journal! I love that he finally knows where he came from and has Grady. I wish that Psalm would’ve still been around though. I love that Journal has Bryani and Harmony as well, hopefully Grady will be a father soon. Also I love that China has her babies with her now and Farrell wasn’t having it any other way. Hope she’ll be pregnant soon too. I’ve always wondered what happened to the Braxton sister’s mother.
I am a true fan of Diamond D. Johnson, but the plethora of grammatical errors throughout this series almost made me not finish. Commas were used unnecessarily almost every time before "and." Winnie's name became "Willow," then back to Winnie. Even the dog's name changed! And "da- da?" Come on! I love your books, but bad writing is as much a deterrent as bad storytelling!
Great storyline, needs to be heavily edited though
Loved the storyline. This part kind of dragged but overall good plot. However, the editing was nonexistent. Like no one read this over. Please go back and fix the your vs you’re, there vs their vs they’re, and simple think like babies, not baby’s. It really took away from the book and lowered the rating. Some may say it doesn’t matter but it does. I almost didn’t finish it.
I just lovvvve this series I cannot wait for Valentine’s Day to get more of Genesis and journal. I could not put this book down. I was so sad when it ended, but I’m looking forward to the next issue. You must bring them back again or do a spinoff with the two sisters and keep them in the story that would be so great.
This was a good series. I was hoping that Journal feed more into herself, seeking a education or career with her mentioning how smart she was coming out of high school and her potential for going to college because of how good her grades were. But overall, she grew in so many areas and Genesis was a blessing to her. Great writing.
I like all of diamond johnson books, well the ones that I've read with broken hearted girl being my favorite. The only thing I didn't like about this book was how she forgot the of winnie and the name of the puppy. I guess they wait to long to come out with their books that forget some characters names.
I liked this book a lot. Journal was a bit too, much of a cry baby for me though. Lol girl get a grip. Lol I also hope journal gets something going for herself besides being a wife and mother. Anyway we can revisit Billion and Glizzy. Lol love thee book. Love this author
This series was good, but it had so many grammatical errors. I love Diamond books, but one error was they were talking about smooth and you called him Sam. I had to go back because Sam was dead so why you waiting on him to come out the house. This is not Diamond’s work to me, she never has this many errors. Other than that the book was a good read.
I gave this series 5 stars because the story line was amazing and the character development was top tier but I almost gave it 4 because the grammatical errors was so bad. I have read a lot of books by Diamond but this is the first with so many grammar issues. I’m not even big on stuff like that but it was to noticeable.
The narrative's seamless progression captivates me from the first page to the last. I'm particularly drawn to the characters' modest origins, with Journey's backstory standing out as especially compelling. Her ultimate resolution is deeply satisfying, offering a conclusion that feels both authentic and profoundly hopeful. Great Read. ReneeG
