DNF. What a letdown bc the beginning of this one was soooo good. 😭

But first, random continuity errors from before I DNFd:
- She sees a photo of him smiling with a woman and decides she's not his twin because she's a brunette and he's blonde. Except a few chapters later she's now blonde. And chapters after that she's brunette again.
- She says something about the "years" she's been with that team but later it's only been a year or a year and half, that's not clear either.
* The resin ring made from his hockey tape ring was adorable though.
Okay now onto the reading:
Ffs this woman is so dumb. When her ex was caught cheating on her and racked up a ton of debt he left her with bc he got "fired" from the NFL, he had his agent spin the story so that it looked like they were already on the verge of breaking up because she had only used him for his money to get through school. She was trashed online, and then a worse article was written with a fake story about her trying to go after another athlete and one of her patients, and it got even worse when the medical board opened a case on her. Willing to bet it was ex who was behind that one.
So her ex moves to her city 3 years later and immediately hounds her to meet with up with him. He immediately starts in on missing her and how he made a mistake, and the moment he finds out she's pregnant, he says he'll tell everyone it's his so she won't get in trouble for sleeping with one of her athletes. He says he needs a family image to get back on a team, so they might as well. Oh and the paps conveniently got a picture of him kissing her cheek in greeting at the restaurant. There's no way that wasn't set up by his agent.
Edit: omffffg the ex confirmed that they're together and expecting in a press conference without getting her approval.
This woman cannot be this stupid. There's no way this ends well for her and I'm pissed even thinking of reading this obvious asf storyline through what will 100% happen, so I'm DNFing here.
She knew exactly who he was and how he operated and she walked into his trap willingly. I cannot support willful stupidity.
Fucking hell, I kept reading and regret it. She keeps the 100% devoted MMC as her dirty secret, letting the world believe her baby is her ex's, meanwhile the ex goes on camera again calling her his wife this time and still claiming the baby. She never contradicted him the first time because she's a coward and wanted people to look away from her relationship with her athlete. This hurts the MMC, but because she didn't give af about him, it doesn't matter to her.
And of course the ex tells her to meet up with him and and she does because this woman can earn a doctorate degree but can't use critical thinking.
"I won't say another word to the press, you have my word. On one condition...that you come to opening game day."

Cute and fun to read!
There were definitely a few moments where I found myself yelling at my book like, “WTF are you doing? Why are you going to see him? Stooooop!” 😂 For a DR, Kendall pulled some seriously questionable moves at times.

This book is utterly riddled with editing errors:
• The brunette Aleksi is with in Finland turns blonde pages later.
• Tarron is called Trey.
• "Full-proof" is used not FOOL-PROOF.
• "Obsoletely" used instead of Absolutely.
• Word order muddled in so many sentences, and many more typos throughout. I even caught Aleksi spelt as Aleski in places. Like who edited this??
That being said, this was delightfully fun to read. Aleksi is a sweetheart and such a good guy. Kendall calls him 'sunshine' and honestly it fits him perfectly. Such a sunshine boy that had me grinning and kicking my feet this whole book. As usual, I could have done without this author's stupid third act drama pattern but at least it wasn't a break-up this time (because it can't be a break-up if they're not properly together yet). Kendall's refusal to do anything except give up to help both of their professional situations, and Aleksi's sudden insecurity about Tarron in the picture after their fight. Like of course she helped Tarron first; she's a bloody doctor and he was knocked to the ground and bleeding. Aleksi was upright and relatively unharmed, and still in his hockey gear unlike the plain-clothed football jerk. She reacted instinctively as a medical professional not a love interest. Major eyeroll.
Still I think this series gets better with each book and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Someone ask the author if she's okay because wtf? How can anyone think this is love? I hate when people make me defend men, but like, FMC is awful, she's a really bad person!
Your ex-husband cheats on you, leaves you full of debt and almost ruins your career, and you still consider getting back with him? And even worse, you tell him you're pregnant before you tell the father of the child? And you think about letting the world think the child is your ex's? You take months to tell the father and he's not upset? Your ex publicly implied that the child was his and everyone acts naturally? MMC isn't upset?
This book makes me nauseous because of how bad a person FMC is! All this because she thought MMC was dating his sister!! Even if he had a girlfriend, it's a child and it's his, grow up and face the consequences.

I like Aleksi and he was a great MMC. However, Kendall creates every problem in this book herself for no reason. All the secrets and lies she kept from Aleksi was annoying and I never felt like they would be a good couple or even fit.
Aleksi is a wonderful example of someone stepping up and doing the right thing.

Had high hopes, had an even higher letdown.
I have loved the Hawkeyes since the first book. I feel like this team is my family.
This is hands down the worst book in the series.
Trust me, it pains me to say it.
What else pains me? Aleksi and whatever he sees in Kendall. She’s been SO ruthlessly dishonest and distant from him and he worships the ground she walks on.
Ebola? They thought they would die? Please, no one was actually taking any of that seriously.
And what happened to his concussion?
She has the worst anxiety flying but had no problem getting on a plane and flying home?
The entire medical board drama was ridiculous at best.
They just didn’t care both allegations were from her ex husband? Who’s known to be unreliable? A guy gets in a fight after she’s getting physically abused and it’s her fault? And the medical boards are just 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
AND THEN all she had to do was get married and all the problems went away? She’s so smart but didn’t figure that out earlier?

Kendall was wildly unlikable. She fueled the drama and rumours, created issues for herself and others, lacked any communication skills, ghosted Aleksi multiple times, left him in the dark for the dumbest reasons.
She was not supportive, and frankly a bad partner. All of the drama with the ex was completely unnecessary, why she entertained any of it makes zero sense. Aleksi is the true golden boy and deserved so much better.

Kenna pushed back the release date of this book by a few days because she wanted to make a few corrections. While I enjoyed the book, I think there were still a few things that could have been refined. The entire story was going well, although I think there were a few details that either needed further development or needed to be eliminated altogether. However, in general, I could say that the book was a solid 3.5 or 3.75 rating for me...that is, until we reached the end. The last 10-15% of the book felt like a WTF momen,t and I didn't know if I was in a fever dream or in a cheesy 90's teen romcom. It fell apart, and I'm not really sure what or where it turned for me.
We were introduced to Aleksi a few books back, and I thought it was going to be this huge teddy bear with a bit of a diva complex. I mean, we always hear about his skincare regimen and how he is such a handsome guy. I was expecting a bit of Evan Zanders (from The Mile High) vibes with his overall aesthetic. You know the type...the guy that looks good and knows he looks good, howeve,r without the cockiness. It was so obvious that he was going to be this character that is friendly and loving and attentive, but I thought he would have a bit more flair and shine to his personality. That could not be farther from the truth. He really is just that good guy, with a next-door vibe, who loves his family, is a hard worker, and a bit of a flirt. Aleksi has worked his way up from being the underdog and has quietly made a place for himself both on the Hawkeyes team as well as within the NHL.
Kendall has had a somewhat rocky start. She didn't have the greatest childhood and very few opportunities, but through her determination, she made a career for herself. She allowed her heart to fall in love once before, but fame and fortune transformed her first love into strangers. That relationship almost cost her her career, and Kendall has had to work past the obstacles that her marriage brought her, and she is still standing and thriving. However, now Kendall is very careful with her heart and career, ensuring that she does not mix the two together again.
Easier said than done when Aleksi is constantly flirting with her and pursuing her. The team is in the final series of the playoffs, and Aleksi and Kendall are abandoned, far from civilization, with the possible threat of death looming over them. That sounds dramatic, and it is, but it's the excuse they use to finally cave into their chemistry without the guilt of repercussions. Here was my first WTF moment. Look, if you want to hook up, then hook up. However, as a medical professional, please use your better judgment than the teeny tiniest possibility of some virus (that hadn't been confirmed) to justify sleeping together. I think I would have believed it more if they had gotten drunk off their booty and had a night of passionate sex. But whatever.
Then...surprise pregnancy! Here, this whole part was great. I love how Aleksi was there for Kendall, how she allowed him to participate because, well, he is the father and shouldn't need permission when he hasn't been a total dick at any moment. I enjoyed how easy their relationship was. However, if their concern for their careers is that a relationship between the two is forbidden, I'm going to say that they did a crap job of hiding spending any time together or keeping the information from friends and teammates.
The part where Kendall's ex-husband reappeared in the picture...I'm not sure how I felt about this. I understand he was gaslighting her, but I couldn't get a read on him. Did I like him and feel bad for him until he proved he was still a crapy person? Did I distrust him the entire time? I just don't know. I don't know how I felt about him, and if he is supposed to be the villain, then I want to know that I dislike him from the very beginning. If he is just a narcissist, then portray him as that narcissist, without making me believe he has redeemable qualities.
And then we have the third-act break-up...would you catagorize it as that? They didn't break-up really, it was a distnce that they had to put between them to save their careers. I can't go into a lot of detail but it felt insignificant. We kept hearing of the penalities, the risk of being in a relationship and in the end it really felt like they were being sent to the principals office at school and didn't even leave with a slap on the wrist. It was hyped up a lot for no pay-off. And then, Aleksi and Kendall finally get together and make it official and it felt like some fever dream. I can't go into more details because..well, here is a spoiler alert:

One of the Better Hockey Romances
Both main characters are likeable. He’s a total cinnamon roll. He falls first and is down bad before the book even starts.
I really liked the main female character, but she made some poor decisions. Continuing to humor her ex husband was foolish. I know he was manipulative, clearly abusive, and she’d likely been conditioned to go along with him. It’s still wild she didn’t just block him like she did with her own mother and move on. The guy left her in MASSIVE debt. And was a serial cheater. And she kept talking to him. Her friends should have staged an intervention. To be clear, she was definitely never going to get back together with him. There was no real love triangle.
Also, as soon as she found out she was pregnant, she should’ve consulted a lawyer about her medical license. She could’ve left that job if she was so worried about losing her license. That was barely even mentioned as an option. Or the MMC could have paid the salary for another doctor to join the team, so she could keep her job but not been HIS doctor. They had several months to prepare for the medical board to find out and get ahead of it but did basically nothing to protect her medical license. After her maternity leave, what did they think was going to happen? She’d still have a conflict of interest treating him.

To be clear, she was definitely never going to get back together with him. There was no real love triangle.
Also, as soon as she found out she was pregnant, she should’ve consulted a lawyer about her medical license. She could’ve left that job if she was so worried about losing her license. That was barely even mentioned as an option. Or the MMC could have paid the salary for another doctor to join the team, so she could keep her job but not been HIS doctor. They had several months to prepare for the medical board to find out and get ahead of it but did basically nothing to protect her medical license. After her maternity leave, what did they think was going to happen? She’d still have a conflict of interest treating him.

Bring on Aleksi's story!! He's determined, persistent and so full of charm you don't know what to do with - he literally had my heart right from the beginning. He's had heart eyes for our Dr Kendall Hensen since joining the team, the physical attraction and chemistry between them is electric and he makes no secret to anyone and everyone that he's crushing hard for her. Our Doc however has been burnt before and has a strict no players policy, not just for personal but for professional reasons too.
She fought soooo hard not to give in, but Aleksi most definitely has all the come backs to match her every excuse, it's pretty hilarious. Their story was just chefs kiss, Aleksi never wavering, he knew exactly what he wanted and had a plan for everything - storming in as her knight in shining hocky gear every time without fail. LOVED book 4 from the Rookie Hawkeyes, a stand alone with interconnected characters because they are the best of friends! - This one is headed straight to my must read again pile, steam and swoon all round!

I really liked parts of this but disliked other parts. I loved the two main characters and I thought they made such a cute couple! I really liked how the MMC handled the pregnancy, he was so sweet and invested and thoughtful. I loved the friendship group, especially the women - they were so supportive, we love to see amazing female friendships in books!
I didnt really like the actual premise of how they spent the night together, it seemed SO random - but I probably could’ve excused that and still given the book a 4 star rating if not for the abysmal communication from the FMC at the end of the book. I absolutely hate when characters in a book make decisions that affect other people without discussing them with said people first? It was just so frustrating to read.

I really loved it! The accidental pregnancy trope was done really well. The life-or-death situation after the plane incident set everything in motion, and I was completely here for it. My heart broke a little because of everything her ex did to her, he’s already caused way too much damage. Such a thorn in my side! Nevertheless, I find it so beautiful how they found each other and chose one another despite all the circumstances and the trust issues.

She is pregnant with his child and they decide to just wait and see if their will be issues with their jobs rather than filling out paperwork and getting ahead of the issue!?! I got really frustrated with these two. The FMC has come out of a toxic relationship, but she keeps letting this man back into her life. The MMC is such a sweetie, but she keeps running hot and cold on him without telling him why when many of these issues she has could be easily solved with a conversation. She needs therapy after her last relationship and this couple's communication needs serious work. Also, this man buys her a house and decorates it without her input! I would be livid (because I am super picky) but she seemed happy. I thought the book started strong, but fell a bit flat. The plot was a cute idea, but I wanted more character growth (he started a sweetheart and ended a sweetheart and she started with trust issues and ended with trust issues, but making an exception for the MMC). Almost DNF'd. This wasn't the book for me.

Ok. I was actually excited for this book after not being a huge fan of the last few. But this book has been published for a few months now and is riddled with errors. Basic editing errors, several instances where the incorrect words were used, character names and appearances changing, then two scenes were the same dialogue. Like the same EXACT DIALOGUE.
I enjoyed the premise and both of these main characters, even though Kendall acted like an idiot sometimes.
I’m took off .5 because the editing errors are too excessive to look past. It feels like it didn’t go through a single round of professional editing. I like this author but I think maybe instead of putting 3 books in 2 months she should space them out more so her editor can keep up.

First off it takes a lot for me to dnf a book, but I was so close to it with this book. I finish books within days, but this one took me weeks because I dreaded reading it. But I’m too far into the world (with the original series and this one) to stop now. I like the characters and I think the author has good story ideas, but OMG does she not edit or reread her work before she publishes?? Every single book of hers has had major editing fails, but this one I think takes the cake! There were so many inconsistencies throughout this story. Most of the time the inconsistencies were on the same page?? Like if she has an editor then they need to be fired. Immediately. If it’s just her then I feel like this is such a disservice to her readers to publish her stories as is. This may be mean, but the amount of errors in her books (especially this one) is ridiculous and she needs to take more time looking over her text before she publishes.

I really wanted to like this book more because I love Kenna King’s books but Kendall as a character (FMC) was infuriating to me. I spent most of the book screaming “what the F are you doing!?” and “girl noooooooooooooo” at her, while wanting to shake her. It felt like at almost every opportunity she made the wrong choice. She did manage to get it together by the end but her growth was hard fought for. I absolutely fell in love with Aleksi though. He made the whole book worth it to me. He is a perfect book boyfriend!

Kenna King never misses! I couldn’t wait to read Aleksi and Kendall’s story. Kendall is the Hawkeye’s team doctor and Aleksi is a star Winger. It was love at first sight for Aleksi. Kendall has a past with athletes and has hardened her heart. Will Aleksi break through her walls? This book has forbidden romance, ex-husbands, he falls first, swoon moments that have you kicking your feet, accidentally pregnant, and medical emergencies. I highly recommend if you are a hockey romance lover! 💜🏒👩⚕️

Let’s start with the positives. Aleksi is just perfect. He’s so selfless and loveable and he’s easily become one of my favourite characters.
I also LOVE the Hawkeyes world Kenna has built. I’ve binged the entire original series and this one too. The team dynamic is amazing, the WAG group is something you’d genuinely want to be part of and the stories are great fun to read.
Now for the negatives. Kendall is okay, I guess. I didn’t hate her but I still don’t get some of her choices. How do you even give the time of day to someone who supposedly ruined your life, then tell him about the baby before you tell the baby daddy? What??
The much bigger problem though is the editing. The typos, grammatical errors and very obvious plot holes are getting ridiculous.
Penelope turned into a ‘he’ during the wedding scene. Aleksi’s sister went from brunette back to blonde, which conveniently meant Kendall could think she was someone he was seeing. The book constantly gets ‘you’re’ and ‘your’ wrong which is very triggering (I was fearing for my Kindle's life). The dialogue during both medical review boards was THE EXACT SAME.
Then the cherry on the cake was the final sentence of the bonus scene where the Northern Lights could apparently be seen in daylight. Hun, it’s already extremely difficult to see them at night if there’s light pollution or clouds let alone during daylight!!
And this isn’t only happening in this book. In Lucky Score, the writing would randomly change from first person to third person. Sometimes you’d be reading the FMC’s POV and then suddenly you’d be in the MMC’s. No warning, nothing. How does that even happen in a published book?
Believe me, I’m not the kind of person who usually goes looking for these things. I let A LOT slide and can still be genuinely happy with a book. But there’s so much of it now that it’s really starting to irritate me. At this point, the books genuinely feel like raw manuscripts rather than finished books and that's what makes this so frustrating. Both series have so much potential and Kenna clearly has talent.
Kenna darling, please get a proper editor ASAP. The world and characters are already there but the lack of editing isn’t doing you any favours. Book after book, it’s always the same issues. I honestly don’t know why people say these books are AI generated because if they were, surely they wouldn’t have this many errors and typos.
