Dire Need Had Driven Caroline Wembly Into the Arms of The Infamous Earl Of Rutherford

But though she was his lawfully wedded wife, Caroline was certain the desires Magnus aroused couldn't possibly be legal. This marriage of convenience was fast becoming more - much more - than she'd bargained for!

"Til death do us part." The phrase rang with irony for Magnus Eddington, for time appeared to be running out for the earl of Rutherford. He needed both heir and angel to redeem his devilish past, yet could heaven-sent Caroline Wembly be the balm for his broken soul?

E riecco i famosi parenti serpenti!

This was a nice enough read, though it didn't evoke in me deeper feelings.

I liked that Caroline had a backbone. That's always important in a heroine.

Magnus was a sexy piece of tortured ass. I love stories where the characters are dying or, at least think they are. It creates some great angst and dream.

Read it if you're looking for something light and easy to read.

It would have been Good had not there been other issues that I would like to address here. The character of Wembley, Cara's and James' father... the reasons for his so~called debauchery and his incestuous attempts on his daughter were not clearly presented and so were his drinking and gambling. Such depravity in character would have been manifested earlier even before his marriage. If he was a wealthy Duke or an Earl with inherited estates and wealth to waste... but he was a rich merchant who showed remarkable business acumen to have accumulated his wealth and earned his place in his own class (or at least such was implied to the reader). He had a professional reputation to maintain else nobody would do business with him and only the most greedy and most gullible would even marry him. This just did not add up for me. So with David's character... either Magnus had no friends concerned enough to tell him about his brother's excesses or no old family retainers like solicitors or bankers or even creditors to inform him of the extent of his brother's gambling losses... Magnus must have been surrounded by sharks and opportunists indeed. Also some Annoying Americanisms like "golly" "from here on out" that were most definitely un~English in Victorian England thus making False the genre and the timeline.

Voleva vederlo lavorare in giardino.

This was my second book by Ms. Navin, and once again, I was captured from the start. The only difference with Meet Me at Midnight, which I enjoyed mostly because of the main hero, Raphael, was that this story was good on the whole.

One thing that I was pleasantly surprised to see was the heroine's groveling. It's a rare thing in romance because almost everyone enjoys it more when the hero grovels. Bottom line: I highly recommend Magnus and Caroline's story. It's sweet and angsty and offers a satisfying happily ever after.
