If you want a book to pull you to visit Venice, then you might need to read this!
Natalie works as a TV freelancer and is asked to present a programme in Venice. Sounds amazing. But she will have to step into the shoes of a famous presenter, which is no mean feat. And Venice... well, that's another story. Nat has to face some pretty big demons to accept the job. But none bigger than what she finds out when she realises who she will be spending time with.
Cate and Phil are a well-to-do couple, with Phil owning a prestigious furniture business, and Cate living a fantastic life. They've been approached to be one couple on a house swap programme with a difference, both couples live lives of luxury, including where and how they live. They both have secrets linked to Venice that neither of them has ever discussed with the other.
What a brilliant story!
The way we are led into these secrets, some darker than others, is done so well, and how they entwine with one another intricately keeps us reading. Well, it kept me reading!
Beautiful descriptions of the various parts of Venice, both the tourist spots and those lesser-known areas. Food is spoken about so much, I'd want to reach out for some, but I wasn't there!
There is romance, both new and rekindled, and mysteries solved, as well as friendships renewed.
I read this within a day and loved it!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an ARC.

Get ready to say 'Ciao' to Venice and be swept away by the scenic Italian lifestyle. When Natalie is recruited to host Luxe Life Swap she couldn't have dreamed that the colorful coast would bring to light her childhood trauma. Forced to confront her past, Natalie's ex-best friend and new love interest set to right past wrongs with Venice's stunning scenery setting the backdrop.

Victoria Springfield's novel will keep readers guessing throughout the story. I found myself laughing and then on the next page, tearing up as the protagonists faced challenges and overcame obstacles. The author's vivid scenes will transport readers to Italy and by the end of the novel, they won't want to leave.

First book I have read from Victoria Springfield but it won't be the last. I couldn't put the book down, and I read it in two days. It made me want to go back to Venice (which is a breakthrough as I didn't enjoy it on my only visit?). I was only there for the day and didn't get to see or experience all the wonderful places talked about in this book.

The story centers around 3 main characters. Firstly husband and wife, Phil and Cate (Cathy) who have signed up for a house swap for 2 weeks for a television show. They got to swap with a Venetian couple, but both of them got their own secrets around Venice which could threaten their Marriage. Then Natalie works for the television company who is making the show, she is asked last minute to stand in for the usual presenter, as she is in hospital. Natalie has her own demons about Venice but doesn't want to let her boss down, or pass up the opportunity to enhance her career.

With many twists and turns, the story weaves around the present and when all three main characters were in Venice on a school trip.

It has a wonderful array of supporting characters and really touches on the beauty of Venice and what it has to offer, if you step outside of the tourist traps.

I would definitely recommend this book, as I love a book that can take you on a journey to another place whilst led in your own bed.

I really don't know how I feel about this book, having just finished it. I guess for me, it just 'was'. I think I had higher hopes for it, given that it was my first book based on a story with an Italian backdrop. I can't say that the depictions made me want to travel to Venice anytime soon, despite Italy being a country on my travel bucket list.

The story is based on a reality TV show called Luxe Life Swap where two well off couples swap living arrangements for the summer and is based in Venice, Italy. The co-presenter or host of the show, Natalie, and Cate- the wife in the story, knew each other when they were teens and visited Venice back in the day. There was an incident that broke apart their friendship and there is tension when they find out they are working together. Paul- Cate's husband, also has a bad connection to Venice- a bad experience from when he too, was there as a teen. Neither Cate nor Paul tell each other about these 'secrets' and both are forced to come to terms with their experiences to finally put them behind them. Additional side stories evolve to include a romance for Natalie, a mother abandonment for Cate and boarding school drama for Paul.

For me personally, I don't like when an author keeps mentioning that there are 'big secrets' and then makes you read almost to the end to reveal them. In most cases, the anticipation often falls flat when they are finally revealed- as was the case here. The story was kind of boring and predictable at times, and more and more storylines and characters were added in lengthen and keep this story going, but they were sort of disjointed and didn't really make it better.

Special thanks to NetGalley and to Boldwood Books for the ARC for my honest review of the book.

Victoria Springfield's new release, "One Summer in Italy," delivers and fulfills a gorgeous, romantic escape read that is completely engrossing. From the beginning, the combination of breathtaking Venetian landscapes, rekindled friendships, and the seductive possibility of second chances is an irresistible draw. This is more than a light, fluffy escape; the author skillfully weaves in secrets and accusations so you'll be reading late into the night.

Our heroine, Natalie, is brought back to the romantic city of Venice against her will as host of the TV program "Luxe Life Swap." Although it's a career highlight, Venice also brings with it bittersweet memories of a school excursion that changed her life forever. The author vividly captures Natalie's internal struggle, the ethereal beauty of the floating city gradually eroding her fear, particularly with the advent of the dashing and suave watch restorer, Eraldo. Their budding relationship infuses a lovely sense of romance into the story, depicting Venice as a setting for both old wounds and new beginnings.

But the arrival of sultry contestant Cate puts a tantalizing kink in Natalie's nascent joy. Cate, formerly the "plain" Cathy, is the very ex-best friend Natalie blames for the life-changing things that went down on that ill-fated school field trip. This creates an intriguing dynamic, filled with unspoken grudges and the emotional baggage of shared history. The author masterfully unravels the knots of broken friendships, delving into blame, forgiveness, and the lasting influence of the past.

Cate's motives for going on "Luxe Life Swap" are just as compelling. Exchanging her Old Vicarage for a Venetian palazzo, she wants the change of surroundings to finally enable her to have the confidence to start a personal journey she has been putting off for more than twenty years. Natalie and Cate's enforced closeness brings an engrossing tension, as Cate struggles to mend their damaged connection. Just when reconciliation could be a possibility, Natalie makes the horrific accusation that Cate's husband, Phil, is responsible for John's death, sending everything into chaos.

The author expertly toggles between Natalie's point of view, coming to terms with her past and the development of feelings for Eraldo, and Cate's urgent search to get at the truth in Natalie's charge while protecting secrets of her own. This interweaving viewpoint keeps the reader fully invested, stitching together shards of their past together and of the present emerging drama. The author skillfully tangles up the threads, and you find yourself second-guessing everyone's agendas and itching to learn the long-hidden realities.

"One Summer in Italy" is a lovely tale, quite skillfully weaving together romance and intrigue. The gorgeous Venetian backdrop comes alive through rich description, existing not merely as setting but as a part of the emotional terrain. The author's characters are nuanced and credible, their weaknesses and wants pulling you into their interwoven lives. It is a thought-provoking story of second chances, the intricacy of women's friendships, and the strength it demands to face the secrets that define us. If what you seek is a romantic holiday read with an engaging undercurrent of intrigue and emotional resonance, "One Summer in Italy" is an ideal pick that you'll really have difficulty putting down.

In this complex and emotional new novel, readers follow Natalie and Cate’s reunion in Venice after more than twenty years apart and after their fateful school trip to Venice. Natalie, in Venice to host the TV show Luxe Life Swap, has no desire to be back in the city to revisit past traumas, but the city’s beauty seems to help her heal until Cate, the show’s contestant, returns and brings back hard feelings and bad memories. Cate, on the other hand, hopes to rebuild her friendship and uncover answers to secrets she’s been holding onto, but Natalie’s accusations and questions about Cate’s husband make Cate question everything. Emotional and fraught with conflict and secrets, readers will sympathize with the characters’ difficult emotional journeys and the complex relationships and memories Cate and Natalie are reckoning with throughout the book. The setting and background characters really help flesh out the novel and add depth to their stories and conflicts. The character development and conflict resolution are well-written and should satisfy the readers, while the novel handles the emotional complexities and intensities of the storylines with care. Intense and emotional, this book has a great emotional throughline and fantastic characters that readers will really enjoy in Victoria Springfield’s latest book.

A truly joyful read!
One Summer In Italy follows the story of Natalie, a tv presenter sent to Venice by her friend and manager to be the host of a very popular tv show. But that's not the first time Natalie's been to Venice, as she visited during a school trip when she was a teenager. Unfortunately the memories of Venice she built at the time are not great, a lost friendship, betrayal, and something more...
But this story is all about second chances and everything takes a new course when Natalie discovers that the protagonist of her tv show is Cathy, her best friend during her teenage years but that Venice and a series of misunderstanding took away from her.
We then follow along the stories of both ladies reunited unexpectedly and with a lot to discover about themselves, their lives, their past and even their future!

What I loved the most about this book is how authentic it felt, and how much the love for Venice as a gem of a city that needs to be preserved, came through every single page. As an Italian I'm always weary of books set in Italy, because more often than not, they depict the culture and life in a way that might seem realistic to the general public but usually full of cliches... This one was a truly different story, it felt genuine, it felt real, it felt researched in the best possible way, it felt honest and I genuinely loved all the little details, the description of the arts and crafts, food, architecture and art that make Venice the unique city it is. I might be a bit biased because I love Venice with a passion, but this book did not disappoint, if anything made me want board the first flight to Venice and go for a morning stroll by the canal in Cannaregio. Truly recommended!!

Thanks to Boldwood Books for providing with an advanced copy of this book on Netgalley! Couldn't be happier.

Want a get-away to gorgeous Venice? Look no further than this novel.

Londoner Natalie is a television producer, who had one long-ago shot at TV presenter status. When a last-minute illness leaves her production company desperately searching for on-air talent for a luxurious lifestyle swap program in Venice, Natalie finds herself jetting off to La Serenissima. She’s determined to make this work and to push from her mind a secret she’s been harboring from a past school trip to the city of canals.

Cate is excited to learn that she and her successful businessman husband, Phil, have been selected for the luxury lifestyle program, swapping their quaint, renovated English vicarage for a Venetian palazzo for two weeks. Cate hopes the show can help profile her husband’s business, and she’s willing to overlook secrets from her past she’d prefer to keep buried.

This was fun, escapist women’s fiction, set in one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Springfield has an obvious love for Italy, which comes through on each page. You’ll enjoy this multi-narrator story, with hidden secrets and plenty of Venetian charm.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy - all thoughts are my own.

One Summer in Italy
by Victoria Springfield

The story's pace felt slow to me, but the vivid portrayal of Italy truly brought the setting to life. Unfortunately, I found the plot to be predictable and too similar to a dramatic reality TV show that I dislike, which left me feeling somewhat disappointed. Overall, this book simply wasn’t my cup of tea.

The main character, Natalie, is unexpectedly called in at the last minute to host "Luxe Life Swap," a lavish reality series where two affluent couples exchange their luxurious homes and lifestyles for two weeks. Natalie finds herself dreading the location—Venice—a city that holds painful memories for her due to a childhood school trip that went awry. This trip has haunted her for years, making her experience in Venice all the more daunting.

Upon arriving, Natalie is shocked to discover that the wife of the wealthy couple they are swapping with is Cate, her former best friend from childhood. Their friendship was shattered during that same school trip, which adds layers of tension and unresolved feelings to their reunion. This unexpected twist is just the first of many implausible events that unfold throughout the narrative, propelling Natalie on a journey of emotional confrontation and self-discovery.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4

Natalie works in TV production amd is offered a chance to be the presenter for a show called "Luxe Life Swap" where two very rich couples exchange their homes (and lifestyle) for two weeks. She loves the chance but not so.much that she is supposed to go to Venice, a city she has bad memories of since a school-trip years ago.
Once in Venice it turns out that the wife of the rich couple is Cate, who used to be Natalie's best friend until said school-trip and that is just the first rather unbelievable event in this book. It turns out almost all the english characters were on that school-trip years ago and now rather randomly have come to Venice at the same time which of course gives a perfect opportunity to put old secrets and guilts to rest.
I have to say while this book was entertaining I did feel the story was rather constructed and there were too many coincidences for it to be believable. I really loved reading about the city of Venice and all it's hidden gems. I made me want to go there and see for myself.
For me this was a feel-good novel set in a beautiful city.

This was going to Italy, to one of the nicest places, Venice. It is the story about Natalie who works within TV. Floella wants Natalie to stand-in for Mandy presenting Lux Life's Swap. It is a story that unravels and how Natalie does go to Venice in Italy, a place she had sworn she would never return to. It is a story linked to the past and also to people Natalie knew a long time ago. The storytelling and characters are really nice, the setting of the story is Venice amazingly beautiful. The history, the culture, the Mediterranean vibe and the new as well as old encounters of the past. The author takes us on a trip to remember and it has several twists and turns. Making up with the past and finding a way to solve mysteries and finding family and it's true meaning. In the mix of the story is Eraldo owner of a workshop and a friend of Flo's. The whole book was a pleasant read and it wasn't predictable. I can definitely recommend this book. I'm grateful for the opportunity to read and review this story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood for the opportunity to read this light and fun book that deals with love, teenage angst, and friendship. There are 3 primary characters in the book. Primarily Natalie, who works for a television company making a show about luxury lifestyle home swaps. Add in Phil and Cate, an American couple who are one half of the house swapping party. In this story, they swap with a Venetian couple. The look back and cause of the angst is that the three main characters went to Venice on a school trip. Hidden memories and secrets kept cause issues for all.

Natalie has been asked to make a presentation in Venice which she reluctantly accepts. She is a last minute stand-in for the company’s usual presenter who is hospitalized. She doesn’t want to go but does so only because it is the career opportunity she’s been waiting for.

Entertaining, sweet and fun. Since I’ve spent time in Venice, it was a treat to have the setting in such a magical place. I would recommend.

Enchanting modern tale and virtual trip away to beautiful Venice in Italy. Well written, great characters, brilliant story, now enchanted by Victoria Springfield and will be looking out for her next books!
Natalie is in television production in London when an opportunity comes up to present a luxury style show but it’s set in Venice, where she once visited on a school trip which changed her trust and friendships. Can she face Venice in all its beauty and get past the time that has haunted her?
Cate is looking forward to some special time in Venice staring in a tv show with her husband but has other thoughts of what she needs to find in the islands from her past.
Loved all the story lines that wove beautifully together, fabulous characters, magical Venice, this is a glorious read!! Creativity, art, friendships and family it’s all here!! Gorgeous escapism and a complete joy to read!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood books for the early read!

The friendship between Natalie and Cate is central to the story. When Natalie reconnects with Cate, through work, she discovers so much about how they have both developed as adults. The events of their teenage trip to Venice have had a profound effect on Natalie. Cate seems to have reinvented herself and it is through their rekindled friendship that Cate is able to face up to her feelings towards her parents. Phil, her husband, has been her protector all through their marriage but as is revealed through events, he has some deeply buried secrets from his past.

Venice is a magnificent backdrop to the story and Natalie sets out to explore it. In doing this, she makes new friendships and there is a gentle romance under the surface. You get the feeling with Natalie that she has missed her true potential and her visit to Venice opens her horizons and gives her the confidence to take a risk.

In short: second chance friendship and new romance

I had not come across this author before, but when I discovered that she writes contemporary feel good fiction set in Italy, as an Italophile I just had to read 'One Summer in Italy'

Natalie and Cate are the main protagonists of the story. Natalie is sent to Venice for a work project, a city she has unhappy memories of, from a school trip many years ago. Imagine her shock when she finds an ex school friend from the same trip is also in Venice for the same project. forced to confront the past, the story unfolds as Natalie and Cate endeavour to put things right between them.

An escapist read which felt rather predictable. However this is made up for by being set in Venice and the author has shown her love of the city in the details. Recommended to Italophiles.

Thank you NetGalley, Victoria Springfield and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read and review.

Natalie heads to Venice, Italy, to film a glamorous reality show called Luxe Life, where contestants trade lives in luxurious destinations. Unexpectedly, one of the contestants turns out to be her estranged ex-best friend, Cate, someone she hasn't spoken to since a falling out during a high school field trip. As the two reconnect in the enchanting backdrop of Venice, old wounds resurface, and hidden truths begin to unravel.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, especially the vivid, romantic descriptions of Venice. The tangled dynamics between Natalie, Cate, and Cate’s husband, Phil, kept me turning pages, as each harbors secrets that threaten to surface. This is a beautifully layered tale of romance, second chances, and the art of starting over.

I really enjoyed One Summer in Italy by Victoria Springfield. I had read one of her books before set near the Amalfi Coast and I loved all the descriptions as they really put me back in one of my favourite countries of all time. This book also did not disappoint on the location front. Set in Venice, it follows the story of 2 friends, Natalie and Cate renewing their friendship after years of being estranged. It deals with beautiful settings and darker themes of abuse and family dramas.
I adored the love story between Natalie and her handsome Italian Eraldo and how it was such a slow burn,
Great pacy writing and good cast of well drawn characters. Perfect summer read with an Aperol Spritz and a view of the Rialto Bridge!

One Summer in Italy by Victoria Springfield was a beautifully written book from start to finish with a beautiful cover that just caught my eye. It was a book that just took me back to my holiday to Venice which was a dream, walking through the tiny cobblestone lanes, finding some amazing little shops that are hidden especially shops that sells masks etc, watching the gondola's pass by on the canals, if you want to get to places water taxi's were the best and fun to use, the romantic vibe of a wonderful place, This book was perfect and bought back so many lovely memories and it was so romantic fulled with love and friendship and a great story.

This is a book that will have you craving Venice. . . . . . . . . A Venice holiday. . . .

❤️ A perfect book written from the authors heart.❤️

Firstly, big thank you to the Publisher and NetGalley for the ARC and chance to review this book.

I really wanted to read this book because I love Venice and Italian and this book did not disappoint. Both well known places and lesser known not so touristy areas are beautifully described and there's plenty of references to food making me feel as though I was sitting at a cafe watching this story unfold.

This is the first Victoria Springfield book I have read and certainly wont be my last. I loved how she was able to weave so many twists and turns into the story about romance, secrets, second chances and friendships renewed and it made the book memorable and unable to be put down.

I can't wait to recommend this book to friends and fellow readers

When one-time school friends Natalie and Cate come face-to-face again for a TV programme being filmed in Venice, can they put the past behind them?

Natalie is given the opportunity of a lifetime, presenting a Tv show being filmed in Venice. Cate is escaping her normal life and swapping it for the glamour of Venice. Yet when the former friends were last in the city, things ended badly, as did their friendship. WIll they be able to find out the truth about wha happened on that fateful night?

This was a feel-good read, perfect for summer evenings. Although Cate took a bit of warming to, both characters were realistic based on the situation they found themselves in.

A twist of fate brings old school friends Natalie and husband wife Cate and Phil to Venice to film Luxe Life Swap. The Venetian backdrop was vividly brought to life, it was almost a character of its own. It was fun to see the behinds the scenes of a TV show and get a glimpse into the life of wealthy people. However, bean wary all the glitz and glamour are a lot of secrets. I loved the way Victoria kept dropping crumbs along the way. I was trying to work out what the connections could be and what secrets were about to unfold. Some I guessed, others took me by surprise. A sumptuous and engaging story.

One Summer in Italy by Victoria Springfield is being released today! This is the second book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it.

Victoria Springfield clearly enjoys writing stories set in Italy and she is very good at it. Moreso than the richly described setting and the always wonderful food descriptions, this story also has compelling and interesting plot elements. It explores friendship, dealing with the past, and both the keeping and revealing of secrets. While some of the character introductions and pacing of events was a bit confusing, sticking with the story was well worth it because much like her previous book, An Italian Island Secret, this book contains a mystery element with a satisfying conclusion.

I should mention that all this takes with a reality show in the background, so any reality show fans will be well entertained. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a well-written, emotional story and has dreamed of traveling to Italy.

Thank you to Boldwood Books for providing an early review copy of this book via NetGalley for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

One Summer in Italy was set in a beautiful location. It was a bit far fetched for me to believe that Natalie was asked to host “Luxe Life Swap” TV show.
I could not get connected with the plot line nor characters. I did not care much about any of it. I would have preferred the story to have something in it that I could not predict was going to happen. As I read, I wanted a huge twist that would give me more. Reading the book did make me want to hop on a flight to Italy.

A wonderful book from Victoria Springfield. A TV programme called Luxe Life Swap takes a couple from UK and a couple from Venice and film their stay in each other’s worlds. However as soon as Venice is announced as the place that Cate and Phil will be going to unresolved issues begin to surface going back to their childhood. Alongside this the new TV presenter is an old friend who has her own issues. Can they work together and will the past affect their futures? A great storyline with interesting characters. Thanks to Victoria and her publisher.

It took me a while to get into this but when i did i was hooked. It was written well, the scenery descriptions were amazing. Venice sounded amazing as did the food and all the attractions too. Cate had a real charmed life with phil but both had demons and were both not really living there lives to the fullest as they had managed to keep essential facts back from each other.. When Cate reconnects with natalie lots of history is dug up and she needs to make amends to let them both move on. Great book. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

First offthank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for allowing me to read an e-arc copy in exchange for an honest review. I’m very appreciative of the opportunity.

I read this book as if I was a viewer watching Luxe Life Swap. So, I knew the implying conflict couldn’t be true…or could it? Nah I’m messing but this was a fun read about friendship and the true purpose for our lives. Connecting and experiencing life with people. I enjoyed this book but I found it slow at times making hard to get into the book.

Thanks again for an e-arc copy from Boldwood Books.

Victoria describes Venice in full technicolour. I am sure that even if you haven’t been there you will have a good idea of the canals, boats, buildings, and the food from Victoria’s descriptions. A reality show in the making, though we only see a small part of the recorded show (the Uk part is not relevant). Events from 25 years ago in Venice, & 39 years ago have much more significance for various members of the cast and crew! And certain residents are surprised by the visitors. An interesting and intriguing story. I received a complementary copy from NetGalley and Boldwood. This is my honest, voluntary review.
