The second installment in the adrenaline-fueled Briggs Tanner trilogy, from the #1 New York Times bestselling author.
Ghosts of the Past.
Twelve years ago, Agent Briggs Tanner snuck into China to help strategic mastermind General Han Soong defect to the West. The escape went perfectly, until, somehow, the secret police interrupted them at the final rendezvous. Tanner barely escaped, but Soong and his family were arrested, and soon thereafter they disappeared…
Threats to the Future.
Now, Soong has resurfaced. He’s contacted the CIA with the message that he needs once more to try and escape—and the only person he trusts is Briggs Tanner. But even as Tanner prepares to confront the chaos of his own past and once again challenge the authority of China’s brutal secret police, forces around the globe are watching him, waiting for the moment that will lead the world to the brink of war, and seal Tanner’s fate once and for all.
The New York Times bestselling author of the Briggs Tanner series, (END OF ENEMIES, WALL OF NIGHT, and ECHO OF WAR) Grant Blackwood is also the co-author of the Fargo Adventure Series (SPARTAN GOLD, LOST EMPIRE, and THE KINGDOM) with Clive Cussler, as well as the co-author of the #1 NYT bestseller, DEAD OR ALIVE, with Tom Clancy, and the upcoming thriller, THE KILL SWITCH, with James Rollins.
A U. S. Navy veteran, Grant spent three years aboard a guided missile frigate as an Operations Specialist and a Pilot Rescue Swimmer.
Grant lives in Colorado, where he is working his own standalone series starring a new hero.
This is the second novel in the Briggs Tanner series. While I enjoyed most of the characters and the intertwining plot, there was a lot in this book that was unbelievable and heavy handed. His writing, overall, is good, but I couldn’t buy into several one-dimensional, farcical characters and the main plot. Not my favorite.
This high paced action thriller starts at 100 mph and only gets faster. Agent Briggs Tanner goes back to China for some unfinished business. The unfinished business being a high ranking Chinese officer trying to defect to the US with secrets tied to a Chinese plan to attack Russia with the US assistance. A good concept that was well executed. Only draw back for me was the typos.
Tanner Briggs and his partners have all they handle in averting a Chinese plot leading to WW III. The tension escalates as he pursues a solo mission inside China to avert disaster.
Just finished reading books one and two, just bought book three. I am impressed with this series. As an action, espionage reader I have not been so happy to buy books for a while. I do highly recommend this book. I do remember the c.c. storys . Great job Mr Blackwood. dan
The book started out a bit slow, but really picked up about 1/4 of the way in and kept me wondering how Briggs, Bear and the rest of the team were going to save the world from WWIII. Looking forward to reading Echo of War now.
Too many characters with too many nicknames in beginning for me to keep straight in order to read before bed. Quit reading it, since always had to backtrack to remember who they were..
