Marshall Green just wants to make it through the holidays, which includes finishing one last job for the season with his obnoxious co-worker, Ronny. However, when a winter storm sets in, his upcoming holidate may be ruined along with his image of his nemesis.
A light-hearted, opposites attract novella about finding your self-worth and overcoming misconceptions.
(This is a 22K word novella - a slightly extended version of the story as seen in the 2024 Snowed In charity anthology)
The Holidate Rescue by Dianna Roman is a short, holiday novella that first appeared in the Snowed In charity anthology. She says this version has been slightly extended.
Marshall Green is thirty one years old and is a contractor. On the side, he has a wood shop behind his home and makes beautiful furniture and other items to sell at a market. Marshall’s co-worker, Ronny Carmichael, has been getting on his nerves for two full years, ever since he was hired. But when they are both stranded on a job site during a terrible winter storm, they are forced to stay very close together for warmth. It also helps Marshall to start to see Ronny in a new way.
The entire story is told from Marshall’s point of view. He is very defensive, and perhaps a bit sarcastic. I think a lot of that is due to his opinions about himself which gives him the prickly attitude. Ronny is like a golden retriever. All smiles and awkwardness. Marshall has definitely misjudged Ronny which made me feel bad for him. I read this in about two hours so it’s super quick. It was cute and I adored Ronny. Marshall, though, took me awhile to warm up to.
Ms. Roman wove a tender tale with two, at a glance mismatched men. Her writing is witty, and the characters were beautifully fleshed out for a novella.
I loved Ronny to pieces and wanted to smack Marshall upside his head more than once. Marshall works with Ronny and doesn't have a high opinion of him.
Needing a date for Christmas, Marshall turns to a dating app called Holidate. Being stranded on a work site with Ronny ruins his chances of making this happen. Marshall is about to find out not only are his plans not destroyed, but his life is about to dramatically change
A sweet, heartfelt romance from a remarkable author that I can't recommend enough.
Two cute guys secretly in love with each other but with ridiculous internal monologues pining, and longing but also stopping them from acting on it becuse the other guy is too good for them, straight, the guy that put them in jail or some other bullshit.....
If you don't like these things you will not like this forced proximity, snowed in short story.
This novella is good enough that you are sad that it is so short.
*I read this as part as an anthology of short stories called "Snowed in" which I am not sure is available any more and I have edited my review for that to suit this book as a standalone.
A less that joyful Christmas tale as two young men working on a cabin refurbish get stranded by a fierce snow storm, sadly they are woefully unprepared for the cold and things seem dire. I've read several 'cabin in woods/storm and usually love them, this one not as much. It started out perfect, co-workers - one cocky and the other hating the cocky one, a perfect set up for a good read. Trouble is, for me, it got too bogged down and a wee bit boring. It does have it's good moment of course, they're just lost in the lesser enjoyable parts.
What the fuck is Marshalls Problem? He was horrible. It was only his pov (of course *eye roll*) and I just thought, ew I dislike you so much. He was rude, just thought about himself, whiny and just annoying. Ronny was a sweetheart and I really don't know why he was so infatuated with Marshall? I love Dianna Roman's books but this one was a miss for me. And OF COURSE no epilogue, ugh I don't see their love whatsoever. 2.5 ⭐
Runny and Marshall are opposites that somehow fit together. Thanks to a snow storm and some holidate mishaps, their misunderstandings are all cleared up. This story was as funny as it was sweet.
Fun read, amusing style. not really e2l except in M's mind lol, fake date was secondary, and snowed-in only at the start. a mix of tropes. only M's pov and he was relentlessly snide at himself and R, so R came across alternately confused or the perfect bf.
This packs quite a romantic punch despite its shorter length. You won't be sorry if you give it a chance. Believe me, it's worth it for the sleep-talking alone ;)
This was a really cute story. Nothing like a little forced proximity to jump start falling for the guy you thought hated you. I liked the holidate concept of the story.
This was a really cute and very short hallmark like story. There isn’t a lot of smut but it was teeth rotting sweet and worth the read during Christmas season
Meh. I've loved some of her other books and I guess i was expecting the same. I have to admit I'm not fan of novellas - too short but wanted to give it a go. It was ok. Predictable, quick and lacks the depth that a full length book can bring.
