The Nurse

Rate this book
The soldier saw her coming. And so did a sniper, hidden by the smoky haze that shrouded the field. He adjusted his sights, levelling his gun as the nurse stooped down beside the bloodied half-form of a man. She grabbed the drug, and shoved it under his tongue; his eyes shaking with fear. The sniper pulled his trigger.

The year is 1940, and war is sweeping across Europe. Edith, a young nurse, is serving in France and trying to survive the horrors of World War II. When a gravely injured soldier, winds up in her care, a deep bond grows between the two as they find solace in their shared faith. But when the two are separated, Edith is left alone on the frontline, and her faith is tested like never before. With so much death and suffering around her, the chance of survival is slim. Will she become another victim of war? Or will she live to see her injured soldier again?

I'm a Christian author who loves crafting historical fiction, with a special focus on the World Wars. When I'm not immersed in writing, I love spending time with my family, making music together, exploring the hidden delights of England, and wishing I could travel back in time.

This book is AMAZING!!! I love the plot and was always on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who'll make it out. The author is really good at pulling her characters from so many worlds, horrors, and childhood upbringings, and somehow connecting all of them. She really inspired me with her words and encouraged me with the lessons her characters learn. I'm also a romantic and love books with like the cutest couples in them, and I was not disappointed with the couples in this one. The first chapter and I was already planning weddings for these characters XD.

Abigail really captures the horrors in WW2 and hardships every person had to bear- whether they were a soldier, nurse, or a family member at home. She also shows how kids were out there, boys and girls close to my age, giving their everything for our country. It makes you value the breath you get to have, and the soil you get to walk on.

The themes of sacrifice, friendship, strength-through-fire, and Jesus are powerfully woven in this story.

I devoured this whole book in less then an hour! I also skipped watching my favorite show (The Rifleman- a western that is so awesome) because I seriously couldn't put the book down XD.

I totally recommend this book to other readers!

This book is both heartbreaking and beautiful, setting the stage for a powerful tale of love, faith, and survival amidst the horrors of World War II. From the opening scene, the imagery grips you the smoky battlefield, the desperate act of saving a soldier, and the looming threat of death and you know you’re in for an unforgettable story.
