Who Is Sonia D. Hebdon? – Author, Autism Advocate & Christian Writer

Everybody has a hero—someone who inspires them to grow through life’s challenges. For me, that hero is my dad. He taught me that being different is something to embrace.
In his early twenties, while working on the Snowy Mountain Hydro Electricity Scheme, he lost a leg in a tragic accident on Mother’s Day. Called in at the last minute to replace a sick crew member, he had no idea that the shift would change his life forever.

His long recovery at Canberra Hospital, learning to walk again with a prosthetic leg, deepened his faith in Jesus and showed him that even in hardship, God has a purpose. His resilience taught me that being different is not a weakness; it's a God-given strength.

That lesson shaped how I raised my own children. When my kids were diagnosed with Autism, I immediately began researching therapies, tools, and strategies to support them in daily life. With 20 years of parenting experience, a degree in Communications and Literary Studies, teaching experience, and ASD awareness training, I created a personalised system that helped my children achieve their goals and gain confidence.

Today, I am a Christian author dedicated to supporting families raising children with disabilities, especially Autism and special needs. My passion for disability acceptance became the foundation of my writing career.
My first nonfiction book, The Crazy Mother’s Guide To Raising Exceptional Children, is a faith-based autobiography and Christian parenting guide that shares the practical strategies I used to help my eldest child overcome severe depression. Many parents don’t realise that unconventional approaches can sometimes lead to extraordinary breakthroughs—and my book offers them hope and guidance.

In January, I released three ASD early readers for newly diagnosed children. These uplifting books help autistic kids build confidence, understand themselves, and embrace the fact that they are superheroes created with purpose.

My newest release, Sincerely Yours: Written In The Stars And Inked In Destiny, is the first book in my YA Paranormal Romance Haven Cove series. This clean, faith-friendly story blends 80s Nancy Drew vibes with Stranger Things-style mystery, following teens who feel like outsiders and aren’t sure where they belong. Subtle Christian themes run through the story for teens who feel lost, overlooked, or never picked first.
This book whispers to them: You matter. God has a plan for you. You will soar.

Across all my work, fiction and nonfiction—I focus on building connections through faith, celebrating family, raising awareness about Autism, and fostering empathy for mothers navigating meltdowns, therapies, and daily challenges. I write books that make special needs children smile and help families feel seen, supported, and understood.

If you believe in disability acceptance, Christian storytelling, and empowering autistic children, please share my work.
There is an author out there who truly cares—someone writing for the kids and parents who often feel alone.
Sincerely yours,

Sonia D. Hebdon
