An exciting event is happening in Honey Springs. There is a writer’s retreat as well as an author signing in town. The headlining author for both events is Landon Creed. He is a bestselling author of crime thrillers with a reputation of being difficult and not friendly. He is only in town for a short while and rubbed most everyone he met in the wrong way. So not surprising when his body is found right before his signing there is plenty of suspects both from town and visitors.

This is a fast paced cozy mystery. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you glued to the pages. Since there is no shortage of suspects there are plenty of red-herring to keep you guessing. There is a surprising and adorable animal for spot light animal for adoption that the bean hive is sponsoring. In addition to the great story there are recipes included for a couple of the yummy sounding snack described in the story.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.

When a talented but arrogant and unlikeable author agrees to come to Honey Springs for a book signing with author panels and workshops it seems like a win-win for this small town. Until the author is found dead and posed much like a murder victim in one of his thrillers. As the town’s attorney, Bean Hive coffee shop owner Roxy Bloom is called into the mayor’s office with a request that she work closely with the sheriff to solve the murder. Roxy has one person in mind as the possible killer but when he too is killed that quickly takes him off the suspect list. Knowing that the killer must be found quickly, Roxy is soon asking subtle questions of other writers in hopes of solving this crime. This book set in the charming town of Honey Springs is an entertaining and engaging book. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.

“He’s got the personality of an unseasoned biscuit. No butter, no honey, just as dry as can be.”

“Oh, sugar, I think the literary community is in dire need of some beauty. You’ll thank me when the pictures go up on the Southern Women’s Club social page!”

A writer’s retreat has arrived in Honey Springs. As well as the bestselling author Landon Creed, who writes thrillers. Seems Landon also has a rather big ego, and not exactly liked by others.
Well, when Roxy finds Landon dead in the Crooked Cat Bookstore, things are about to get interesting.
Why is Roxy always the one to find dead bodies?
I was kept turning the pages with the mystery, secrets and humor. Aunt Maxi had me laughing out loud. The descriptions of Honey Springs has me wishing it was a real place to go visit and explore.

I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it.

This story has a writer's retreat, an unlikeable author, a murder, literary theft, and a lot of coffee. The mystery was interesting. I wasn't surprised by who did it, but I was surprised by why they did it. I liked all the twists this mystery had.

WARNING! Do not read this book without a cup of coffee by your side. You will want to drink coffee while reading it!
This is book 17 in the Killer Coffee Mystery series and each book in the series just keeps getting better. A Perk of Trouble involves an author who was thought to be beloved but turns up dead. The setting was so fun to read about. Revisiting Honey Springs is such a fun trip with colorful characters. The story kept me engaged as well as hungry. I love the treats Kappes writes about the book. It makes me wish we had a Bee Hive Coffeehouse where I live.

Another home run for Tonya Kappes with A Perk of Trouble. This was a wonderful continuation of the coffee house series featuring The Bean Hive and its wonderful cast of characters. A writing retreat is in town and everyone is excited until they find out what a terrible person the featured author is for the retreat. Roxy is just trying to enjoy her job at the coffee shop when the featured writer is murdered and the mayor and everyone else wants it solved immediately. This was a great who dun it that will shock you

Landon Creed is headlining the writers retreat in Honey Springs, but it seems he's not very well liked. Someone dislikes him more than anyone and snuffs his life out for good. Roxy is asked once again to put her sleuthing skills to the test to find his killer but she may get more than she bargains for when she is cornered by none other than the killer!
Tonya Kappes once again blends her snarky southern charm to create the perfect mystery that will "butter your biscuits"!

Spring in Honey Springs, Kentucky is a full feast for the senses and the start of tourist season. Roxy, the delightful proprietor of the Bean Hive, has been preparing for the upcoming writer’s retreat that will welcome authors for a week of speakers, special interest panels, and visits with old friends in the town’s ambiance. One very popular event will be a book signing by a best-selling author, Landon Creed. Roxy has designed special blends of coffee with clever names, such as Cliff Hanger Cold Brew and Whodunit White Mocha, for the retreat, and will also provide a variety of her fresh, flavorful pastries.

Roxy is also hosting a new, ready-to-adopt pet from Pet Palace, where she had adopted her schnauzer, Pepper. Due to a special partnership, Roxy often showcases a pet that is up for adoption with a success rate of 100%. Some people are captivated by the new pet, but not ready to adopt a ferret. Named Expresso, at times he lives up to his name with his bold antics.

Landon Creed is a bold, obnoxious author. Unlike most authors, he is not personable, even with his fans. He refused Roxy’s special coffee blends that she roasts herself. He prefers Perk, a pricey coffee that he brought with him. When he saw the setup for his signing at Crooked Cat Bookstore, he had only rude, negative things to say. Lesley, the store owner, and the Southern Women’s Club, backers of his book signing, were under constant stress. Roxy found Creed dead in the bookstore, shortly before his scheduled signing.

Sheriff Spencer Shepard told Roxy to stay away from the case, and she was content to do so. Her life was full, as she prepared coffee and baked goods for the retreat, ran the Bean Hive, and enjoyed time with her husband, Patrick, her aunt, Maxi, and her friends. Maxi, however, was eager to find the killer and wasn’t very concerned with the sheriff’s orders.

The mayor called Roxy, anxious to meet with her. As the town attorney and someone who has helped solve several murders, Roxy was asked by Mayor Callie to work together with Sheriff Shepard to find the killer as soon as possible. The tourist season is about to begin, and the town wants to attract other professional groups to plan retreats there. They don’t want any murder hanging over Honey Springs. A nationally-known author would attract too much negative notoriety and frighten away tourists and groups considering the town for future conferences.

There are so many people in town for the retreat that Roxy hasn’t met before. She needs to quickly get acquainted with them, so she will attend the retreat undercover and get closer to the sources of literary gossip.

Landon Creed’s agent just happened to have a relatively new author at the retreat. Penelope Price would do a book signing, anticipating her career to blossom. Word is getting around that Creed had been co-authoring a project with another author in attendance.

This fast-paced, expresso-fueled mystery was exciting and the characters engaging. This author includes such clever little clues and twists! I was unable to determine a motive or favorite suspect, and was very surprised at whodunit and why. Coffee lovers and those who appreciate well-written Southern cozy mysteries will love this delicious mystery, and I highly recommend it!

From a thankful heart: I received a prepublication ARC of this novel, and this is my honest review.

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed. Honey Springs is hosting a prestigious writer’s retreat and a nationally author is headlining the event. He is not a very nice person and when he is killed Roxy is not even surprised. She will again try to figure out who the killer is. But that is not an easy task to accomplish.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. The writing style flows smoothly and it defines the characters very clearly by their actions and words. The mystery was well plotted and not easily solved.

I would recommend this book to any one who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. Give it a try and see how good it is.

Roxy is busy with her popular coffee house, the Bean Hive, in Honey Springs. On top of that she is providing coffee and treats for a writer's workshop that is in town. She will serve a menu of goodies for the book signing on the first night. The author for that night is Landon Creed. He is a bestselling author of crime thrillers. His books are very popular, but he was a reputation of being difficult and not friendly.
The signing event is canceled due to the fact that Landon is found murdered at the bookstore in the same way of one of his novels. To keep the festival going, a new romance writer Penelope Price is named as the new headliner.
With Landon being disliked by many, the town Sheriff asks Roxy if she can attend some of the workshops and gatherings where gossip may lead to a suspect. Other people in Roxy's life are very concerned about her welfare, but she's determined to find the killer.
There are plenty of twists in this cozy mystery. I was surprised by who the killer ended up being which is a sign of a well written plot. The added warmth of Roxy's two dogs and a ferret she's trying to find an adopted home for add an extra emotional touch. Many of the items described in the book have recipes at the end of the story.
I enjoyed another visit to Honey Springs where there is Southern charm and hospitality despite murder. This novel reads well as a standalone. I hope go back and read some of the other titles in this lovely series that I've missed.

It is always a delight to visit Honey Springs and the Bean Hive Coffeehouse. The town is abuzz as guests are arriving for the writer's retreat. The headline author is Landon Creed. He is a well known author, so expectations are high. It does not take long for the residents of Honey Springs to realize this guy's ego is so big he can barely fit his big head in the door. He also has zero skills talking to people with his snarling nose and brushoffs. So it is honestly no surprise when he ends up dead.

The suspect pool is rather large, considering this man's penchant for making enemies. The police force and Roxy have their work cut out for them. The red herrings are plentiful which means the author keeps you guessing until the final pages. I enjoy the way this author tailors her mysteries as they keep you wondering as you work alongside the characters to solve the mystery.

There is never a dull moment in Honey Springs as some of the characters provide their own form of entertainment causing me to laugh out loud. It is exciting to see the names of the newest drinks being served at the Bean Hive. If you enjoy a good cozy mystery with an interesting and fun cast of characters, you will enjoy this book and all of the others in this series.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Book 17 is yet another fun entry into a page turning cozy mystery series. New to the series? Don’t worry, you can jump in any time and think of the wonderful backlist reading you’ll have! Roxy’s busy with her Bean Hive Coffeehouse and the town is buzzing with excitement about an upcoming prestigious writing retreat featuring a nationally known author as headliner. Unfortunately, when the author arrives it quickly becomes apparent that he’s lacking in Southern charm and manners to say the least! And then he turns up dead – murdered – in a scene straight from one of his books! Roxy knows what to do to uncover the true culprit!

I do love being back in Honey Springs, Kentucky and wish so much I could visit Roxy’s coffeehouse and see what cute animals are up for adoption. Once again, Roxy shows her determination and bravery by uncovering so many secrets and often putting herself at risk! I did not figure this one out ahead of time, but I enjoyed the ride (and visualizing the murder board). Lots of twists will keep readers turning the pages quickly – I read this in a day.

Wonderful side-characters both human and animal add to the story and it feels like visiting old friends when I sink into the pages of the story. As always with Tonya’s writing, it’s the cozy details in addition to the marvelous mysteries that I just adore. A wonderful bookish escape!

It’s always a thrill to be back at the Bean Hive in Honey Springs with Roxy and her crew. This time, bestselling crime fiction author Landon Creed is in town for a writers’ retreat and book signing. While he may have a talent for storytelling, his people skills leave much to be desired. He has more enemies than you can shake a stick at—including several Honey Springs locals who would rather not deal with him at all.
When Roxy discovers a body at the local bookstore, the scene is chillingly familiar. The victim is posed exactly like the cover of Creed’s latest book, and the crime mirrors one of his own stories. It’s a case of fiction coming to life. The suspect list is as tangled as a game of Clue. It includes town locals, visiting writers from the retreat, and even the victim’s own agent. With the sheriff’s blessing, Roxy dives headfirst into the mystery, snooping around the retreat and uncovering motives that range from plagiarism and professional jealousy to pure, unfiltered dislike. As she pieces together the clues, the case takes a shocking turn—her prime suspect turns up dead, too. If Roxy doesn’t crack the case soon, she might be next. Get ready to race through the pages—this whodunnit will keep you guessing until the very end!

Honey Springs has the honor of hosting a writers' retreat featuring a very famous author, Landon Creed, who writes thrillers. Roxy Bloom is tasked with providing coffee and treats for the workshop from her café, the Bean Hive. Landon, although his books were very popular, he definitely wasn't! And when he is found dead in the Crooked Cat Bookstore, things get dicey, especially her was found dead like one of the scenes in his book. Roxy Bloom is called into the mayor’s office and asked her to work closely with the sheriff to solve the murder, since she is good at uncovering clues and the mayor wants this case solved as quickly as possible. Then when Roxy's suspect is also killed, she really has to dive in and stay safe. With so many twists and turns you are taken on a roller coaster ride as you try to guess the ending. With Roxy trying to find a forever home for the ferret and her two really great dogs, we are treated to the 17th book in this fantastic series complete with great twisted mysteries and humor, especially with Aunt Maxi! Not only do I recommend this book, but I highly recommend this entire series. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

If you're looking for a delightful escape filled with Southern charm and a good old-fashioned whodunit, A Perk of Trouble by Tonya Kappes is your next must-read. This cozy mystery whisks you back to Honey Springs, Kentucky, and the always-eventful Bean Hive Coffeehouse, where owner Roxanne Bloom finds her coffee-slinging routine spiced up with a generous helping of crime.

Things take a decidedly dark turn when a famous author, in town for a writer's retreat, ends up dead in a scene ripped straight from one of his own books. Suddenly, Roxy's quiet days are over, and she's thrust back into the role of amateur sleuth. As the gossip brews hotter than a fresh pot of coffee and suspicion swirls around the retreat guests, Roxy uses her keen instincts to uncover the truth.

Kappes masterfully blends twists and turns with heartwarming elements. You'll find yourself charmed by the genuine friendships, adorable "fur babies," and mouth-watering descriptions of fresh-baked treats. Roxy is a heroine who's easy to root for, combining resilience with a never-say-die attitude.

A Perk of Trouble is the 17th book in the Killer Coffee Mystery Series by Tonya Kappes. The amateur sleuth is lawyer turned barista Roxy Bloom, who owns the Bean Hive in Honey Springs.

The Killer Coffee Mystery Series is such a fun cozy series. I always enjoy sleuthing with Roxy Bloom.

A Perk of Trouble is a fun and twisty mystery with just the right amount of cozy goodness!

The story features a writer's retreat and a mystery that revolves around a popular but unlikable bestselling writer. This was a fun touch and helped to bring in lots of potential suspects.

As always, Roxy does a nice job of sorting through the gossip to get to the relevant clues.

The supporting characters, like Bunny and Birdie, provide good laugh out loud moments.

I liked that the Crooked Cat Bookstore was used as a major setting for the story. It was appropriate given the writing theme. The theme was also present at the Bean Hive; Roxy came up with lots of themed drinks and cute names for them.

I tried one of the recipes included at the end. It is delicious and the perfect summer treat!

Thanks to the publisher for an ARC of this story!

A Perk of Trouble is the seventeenth cozy mystery in the Killer Coffee series. A writers retreat is visiting Honey Springs, Kentucky and the Bee Hive Coffeehouse is providing the caffeine. When the headlining author ends up murdered Roxy Bloom is on the case. Already involved in the retreat, Roxy knows she’s the woman for the job when it comes to gathering gossip from within. Will she be able to put the pieces together before it’s too late or will the killer figure out she’s on to them?

I have enjoyed this series since I started it and I always love visiting Honey Springs again. I really liked the angle of this book and thought the writers retreat was a new and interesting angle for this series. The usually characters I love were back and I liked following along as they solved the case. This mystery pulled me in from the very beginning and it kept me guessing as the story twisted and turned. This was another great mystery in this series I love and I can’t wait to see what comes next for Roxy!

A writers retreat turns deadly when two authors are murdered by a writer out for revenge. How far would you go for fame? Will you steal another authors plot or ideas in order to gain fame?

As a reader who has attended many author events, it's always brings me joy to get a chance to meet authors and publishers and make new friends. This writers retreat sounded like a fun filled event where writers can learn new writing tips and get a chance to meet new friends and meet agents. Unfortunately, an author is found dead exactly how one of his characters died in his book. And Tonya didn't stop at one murder, but two. I didn't see that one coming.

I really loved the plot of this story and how it took place at a writers retreat. I love how Roxanne named her coffees and deserts with book theme titles. That was a fun idea that fit perfectly for a writers event. Roxanne walked right into danger, but her sleuthing helped her solve the murders. This was a fun read for readers who enjoy book events and get a chance to unravel the murders with Roxanne.

A Perk of Trouble is another entertaining installment in Kappes' killer coffee cozy mystery series. Roxy and the rest of Honey Springs is excited to host a writers retreat. Having a well know author headline the event makes the event even more exciting. When the headlining author ends up dead like his current book, Roxy finds herself in the middle of a perplexing mystery. Roxy needs to solve this case to save the event and make sure no one else ends up dead.

Kappes' sets up a compelling mystery that captures the reader's attention from the beginning and doesn't let go. Roxy finds herself in the middle of a number of writers, and she needs to figure out who made this murder mystery a real mystery. I loved seeing all of my favorite secondary characters back as well. Overall A Perk of Trouble proved to be a great read that I would most definitely recommend. The book's mystery is entertaining and has enough twists and turns to keep the reader engaged. I look forward to reading Roxy's next adventure.

Landing renowned thriller author Landon Creed for a book signing is a coup for the little town of Honey Springs …… or is it?  When he turns up dead, posed in a scene from his latest book, shock waves run through the community. Suspects abound as he was about as personable as yesterday's coffee grounds, making enemies left and right. Of course, our girl Roxy Bloom lands in the middle of the investigation.

Another delightful cozy by Ms. Kappes. Honey Springs is the quintessential small Southern town filled with charm, secrets, quirky folks, and down-home friendliness.  I love the detailed descriptions … you can almost smell the coffee and feel the sunshine. Each character has their own voice as the story unfolds. Clues and suspects pop up only to be ruled out. Of course, Roxy will figure out “who dunnit” but we're led on a merry chase to get there.

This charming 17th addition to the killer coffee series had the perfect setting. It all takes place at a charming reading festival complete with themed coffees. It sounded like a great trip and I wanted to go be a part of it so badly. One hi light of the festival was authors coming to speak, with Landon Creed being the main attraction. During his time in town, people quickly learned why it isn not always fun to meet heroes as he insulted people throughout town. So when Roxy found him dead at a scene that perfectly matches one of his book covers it quickly became difficult to nail down suspects when everyone has motive between townspeople, his agent, and other authors. Everyone stood to gain from his demise. So grab a crime scene cranberry scone and a plot twist pumpkin latte and dive into this cozy mystery.

I always love returning to Honey Springs and the Bean Hive to visit Roxy and her friends. Bestselling crime fiction author Landon Creed is in town for a writers’ retreat and book signing, but it’s obvious to everyone that his people skills leave something to be desired.

As Roxy and her friends began to dive into the mystery, another person turns up dead and makes the case even more complicated. Can Roxy solve the murders and discover the identity of the culprit before she becomes the next victim?

This is the seventeenth book in the Killer Coffee series. With a egocentric author in town to head the book festival, nothing seems to fair well for him. He goes out of his way to be obnoxious to everyone. Is it any wonder he becomes the murder victim?

Ms. Kappes does a wonderful job of weaving the stories and characters together to keep the reader turning the pages. She has given us a multitude of suspects. I enjoyed each mis-direction as I tried to figure out who did it.

Roxy must team up with the sheriff to solve the murder. The Beehive crew and her family support the endeavor. The show must go on and not tank the town.

I rate this 4.5 stars and recommend it to cozy readers. It can be read as a standalone. I was given an advanced e-copy and these are my opinions.

Roxy gets a wild and wonderful adventure, interspersed with plenty of unexpected terror, when a famous author comes to Honey Springs for a book signing.

Landon Creed is a disliked author in the literary world. Selfish and self centered, he does nothing to help others, so it isn’t a surprise when he is murdered. The resulting upheaval of his death means Roxy has to find the killer, so she goes uncover as a potential writer and attends the local conference to find the villain.

This is my fav in the series, incredibly well written with the supporting cast wonderfully displayed in the book like sparkling diamonds, but none shine as brightly as Roxy herself. A great book, excellent plot, a satisfying ending with a dastardly villain, and an absolutely worthwhile read

When the headlining author for the author’s retreat is found dead, the hunt is on to find his killer. There are plenty of suspects. It’s just a matter of who hated Landon Creed the most. Landon was rude, egotistical, demanding, and thought he was better than anyone else.

When the mayor asks for Roxie’s help in solving the crime, will she be able to do so before anyone else is hurt or killed? Twists and turns, surprises, a fun pet needing adoption, and more! Kept me guessing until the end.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A Perk of Trouble by Tonya Kappes gave me everything I love in a book!
Roxy Bloom has it all! Who wouldn’t want to own such an adorable coffee shop, help animals find fur-ever homes, AND help solve crimes??!!
I love this series so much because as you’re reading it you feel like you’re part of Honey Springs. Each character is so important and I truly look forward to how each one is going to be included in every mystery!
This book kept me guessing. Just when I thought I had it figured out, something else happens that changes things.
