My world is toppled when I’m kidnapped by the Lord of Death after stealing from the wrong grave, and his desire to punish me turns into something dark and obsessive. Then, I’m kidnapped again and dragged through the bowels of Hell by the lords of the lower layers. Belial will stop at nothing to get me back. Even if it means tearing the Nine Hells down with his bare claws. Because if I’ve learned anything from the last few days, no one steals from the Lord of Bones.
Belial
The other demon lords will pay in blood and bone for what they took from me.
I lied and manipulated my little human so I could own her soul and make her mine forever. But my jealous and vengeful brothers… they stole her from me. I’ll tear through the Hells and collect the heads of her enemies one by one. And when I find her, I’m never letting go. Because in the land of death and decay, I am a king. And she is my queen. She just doesn’t know it yet.
Queen of Carrion is a dark paranormal/monster romance and the direct sequel to Lord of Bones. It features themes that may be triggering for some, including gore, murder, kidnapping, and graphic sexual content. Please check the book’s front matter for the full CW/TW list.
Aiden Pierce is a writer of dark paranormal romance and erotic horror. Her love stories are on the spooky side and usually end up with the monster or the villain getting the girl. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and their three fur babies. When she's not daydreaming about the characters that live in her head, she can be found curled up on the couch with a black coffee and a dark romance novel.
Queen of Carrion was magnificent! This is the second book in Aiden Pierce and R.K. Pierce’s Death Bound Duo, and it’s one hell of a follow-up to Lord of Bones! I thought nothing could top book one, but I was dead wrong.
Belial and Rayven’s steamy, chaotic dynamic only intensifies in Queen of Carrion. These two are a match made in Hell, and I adore them both. The storytelling was phenomenal, and I flew through this book in no time.
When Rayven is stolen by Belial’s brothers, you truly see the wrath and lengths the Lord of Bones will go to for his woman. While Rayven fears what might happen to her, she’s still her mouthy, badass self. She shows each brother exactly why Belial chose her as his queen—especially Asmodeus, the Lord of Lechery, who learns what happens when he crosses the line!
Rayven is an incredible, strong character, and I love her fierce energy. This book is a twisted, dark romance with heavy horror elements, far more than your typical gothic romance. However, it’s packed with triggers, so please check those before diving in.
The book—and its stunning cover—absolutely blew me away. Queen of Carrion is easily one of my top 10 reads of 2024!
So I’m 25% in & some reviews confirmed my suspicion of where this was headed, & I’m just not into it. Honestly, I personally would’ve much preferred for the ball to be the ending of book one as a standalone.
So, instead I’m going to forget the last bit & leave it at the scene where Rayven had Belial on his knees, groveling, & pretending they go on after that to rule together happily in hell with no stupid meddling brothers.
What the hell was this? Where was Rayven and Belial’s story? I absolutely loved book 1, it was a top favorite of mine, making me beyond ecstatic to read this. Imagine my surprise when instead of their story, 90% of this book was about his brothers, the other demon lords. I am beyond upset. This book ruined their story for me. Absolutely ruined it. The writing was as always phenomenal, but the plot and storyline was destroyed for me. I should’ve stopped with book 1 even though there was no ending, it still would’ve been preferable to this. About 50% of the way through I started skimming I was so mad. By the time they finally got their ending at the 97% mark, I could honestly not care less. I am so disappointed. I mean book 1 had this dark, sexy intrigue of a story between the two. Book 2 started out that way and then…..nothing. Bullshit filler like they had no idea how to finish it so they just added all the ridiculous happenings with the brothers and a rushed ending. There was no build up to a conclusion for their story, no working through their problems, no development with their story. Just…..nothing. This makes me sad. I wanted more of Belial and Rayven, not whatever the hell this was. Seriously, what even was this?
I'm quite surprised that this is the sequel to a book I gave 4 stars, but I think I'm cursed to hate all the second books in the duologies I read.
Queen of Carrion was a disappointment and extremely monotonous.
I found the plot with Belial's brothers, the Lords of Hell, to be truly endlessly repetitive.
I was stuck for hours at 80% because I couldn't stand so much unnecessary or meaningless stuff.
I don't know what the authors' intention was in making this the main plot of the book and not a direct continuation of the story and the hurt between Rayven and Belial, but I didn't like the direction the story went at all.
For me, it lost all the growing depth that existed in the first book. It threw away all the interesting emotional baggage between the protagonists in the previous one just for the convenience of being shocking and heavy.
Rayven goes through so much that in the end, her forgiveness isn't really hers. It's more about the relief of knowing that Belial is the least bad thing she'll ever encounter.
Rayven's dreams are completely out of the tone of the story. The authors decided to separate the protagonists, but they still wanted explicit scenes between them. And honestly, you can't have it all.
You either make them stay separated permanently or keep them together. Walking this weird fine line that shows neither separation nor the union of the two is like killing your story.
There was no reason for me to be tense about Rayven's situation if I knew that Belial was going to appear in her dream, say a few things to calm her down, and she was going to have sex with him.
And there's a torture porn vibe here that I don't like at all. The constant gore and sexual harassment scenes are unnecessary. If the goal was to show how bad the Lords of Hell are, I think there are more intelligent ways than thinking that gratuitous violence for the sake of being shocking is a fundamental topic for the construction of horror.
Not to mention the unbearable repetitions that the book suffers from. Many of the scenes in Rayven's dreams are copies of the first book, and her being passed down from brother to brother was almost enough for me to DNF this book.
Queen of Carrion is very confusing in its premise, and I find the ending too quick and simplistic. There was no reason for everything that happened in this book to exist. It's a completely dispensable book. From now on, Lord of Bones is a standalone for me.

Just know I will never get enough of Belial and Rayven... I've been waiting on this one since I finished Lord of Bones and it was worth the wait! I didn't devour it as quickly as I wanted to due to life, but I enjoyed every moment!
Queen of Carrion was dark, depraved and delicious! I didn't want to let these two go and I would love to read more of their story, especially Ravyen and how she's going to rule..
Be mindful of the content warnings before diving in.
Lemme just say.. The first book was just… wow !! I love The lord of Bones! He’s amazing, too Teir shadow daddy !! This book, Queen of Carrion, is just as AMAZING! Sometimes I find it hard to get through series, or even duets, but it kept me hooked, so much so, I read it in 6 hours (probably would’ve been faster if I didn’t have crap to do in between!) I love Belial & Rayven!
*SPOILER here so stop reading if you plan to read this!* I would love to see what she does since she now oversees the other 8 realms! What does she do with the souls and other demons there (that I assume are there since there was goblins in Mammons realm, I believe) I’d love for there to be a spin off maybe even a stand alone to see what she accomplishes as Queen of Carrion !!!
THE LORD OF BONES AND QUEEN OF CARRION ARE THE HOTTEST COUPLE
HELLO ?!!??
when will my own devil come kidnap me and rip the spine out of my ex and make a crown out of it for me ? please i beg 🧎🏻♀️
i will literally do anything for a sliver of belial !! the way this man tore through all the layers of hell just to get his queen back 😚🤌🏼 chef’s fucking kiss 💋 i was at the edge of my seat through this whole book !!
definitely loved this one the most in this duet. the whole journey did fell a bit rushed but there was still so much tension and adrenaline while i read these books. i loved that book two you get to meet and have scenes with the rest of the brothers. i was so intrigued about them all since book one and getting to see them in this was such a great storyline. even though i wanted to kill them all 💀 i’m so glad belial and rayven found their way to each other. they are absolutely everything and more 🖤
Amazing!! I freaking love this duet, I honestly didn’t think that this book would be better than lord of bones but it is 🖤 highly recommended both books
Finally!! Finally we have the second half of the Death Bound duet, Queen of Carrion. I have been waiting, and yelling at RK Pierce to write it faster lol, for this book for what feels like an eternity.
Somehow better than the first, Queen of Carrion is deliciously dark, bringing us further into the depths of Hell and the tumultuous relationship between Rayven and Belial. Though she tries to deny it for most of the book, Rayven’s affections towards Belial continue to grow, as does her trust and desire for him. Belial, the proudly toxic man he is, quickly comes to the realization that while he loves to bring Rayven pain, he also wants to atone for what he’s done to her in book one, and the beginning of book two. He especially comes to this realization when Rayven gets kidnapped by Belial’s brothers; with the first stop of the next level in Hell being Asmodeus. Rayven goes through some very trying events until she is inevitably saved by Belial’s brothers, and I strongly urge the reader to check trigger warnings for this book. Strongly, strongly urge.
Rayven’s strength throughout this book is admirable, as I absolutely would’ve been unable to deal with meeting, and being tortured by, all of Belial’s brothers. Her wit and stubbornness really speak to Belial’s need for control, bringing an almost Dom/brat vibe to their relationship. This book sucked me in quite rapidly, and I devoured it very, very quickly. With Lord of Bones being my first step into Dark Romance, and now Queen of Carrion being as fantastic of a read it was, I can confidently say I am a turned Dark Romance girlie and I have to thank the two Pierce’s for that 🖤
10000000/10 CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS
P.S. Bone daddy gets creative with an oar….. do with that information what you will 😬
I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. THANK YOU!!
Want a man that will beg at your feet, worship the ground you walk on, and destroy everyone in his path to get to you? Then Belial is it. This book is dark as hell but the writing carries it magnificently. Rayven is a strong, quick-mouthed fmc who I love, tirelessly taking every shit sandwich that is thrown at her. And she keeps the Lord of Limbo in his place. The smut is so bloody toe curling that when I got a text I had to reply with an error message. Do yourself a service and add this to your TBR.
OBSESSED! 😍 this duet has me in a chokehold! I loved Lord of Bones and could not wait for book two! It did not disappoint!
I love Belial and Rayven so much!
Both books just grip you from start to finish and in this one, we finally get to see just how much Belial loves Rayven who his brothers kidnap her to the other layers of hell. He literally puts “touch her and 💀” on a whole other level and I loved every second of it!
Obviously check your tw, but if you’re good with a lot of messed up things then you’re about to see a gripping love story under everything! And the 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ is spicing fr!
I love ARC reading for Aiden Pierce. There isn’t a thing I would change about this follow up to the lord of bones. It’s was so hard to put down when not reading. If you aren’t easily triggered by certain subjects, this is an absolute recommendation for dark/ horrorish paranormal romance lovers 🖤
I absolutely loved this duet! I didn’t think it was possible, but book 2 was even better than book 1. Aiden and R.K. created an amazing story and world that takes you on a ride so wild, sexy, and dark, that you’ll never want it to end!
I can’t say enough about this book, but you definitely want to read this duet!
Please heed the warnings before you dive into this wicked story!!! We pick up where book 1 left off with Rayven and her navigating this wild AF world. Not going to lie the way I wouldn't mind trading places with Rayven in parts of this story!! There were definitely times where I questioned if I thought what was happening was hot, and yes it was in the story of course lol.
For some reason the charm from the first book was a bit of a miss for me here. It did feel like the story dragged a bit as Rayven did spend quite a bit of time away from the Lord of the Bones. It might be the case where I was a bit distracted with life events that did prevent me from finishing the story for some time, but for one reason or another, I simply felt a bit detached from the the story. However, I still do think that Belial is an amazing character.
Truthfully I only read this to get the FMC reaction to the reveal. Suffice to say - wasn’t great. Not a complete dud, the plot was passable, but not by much. But good lord I think I’d get more enjoyment out of just straight watching corn than this. I think there has to be a quota for certain publishers for the amount of intercourse in books. I think I clocked this book at every 10-12 pages. Which, if that’s your thing go off I guess, but this feels akin to those people who go on the hub in public libraries. This book just has the decency of being in print. Gratuitous intimacy aside, the quips were lazy. The first book benefitted from the curiosity on if FMC would genuinely escape and if MMC would let her. The gore was lazy, overplayed throughout and this sequel continued that theme. As yes, body parts and blood. I’m being a bit nit-picky, I’ll admit. But this book is dull at best. The dialogue trickled into cringey territory at the best of times, downright boring at the worst.
I can’t say any of my issues with book one are solved in this. And the underlying plot of “the reveal” is satisfied in the first 20 pages. So basically, this book had no real point. She’s mad, then she’s not.
I loved this!! Now did I absolutely love the fuck out of Lord of Bones? Hell yes, and I have been DYING for book 2 and this SUCCEEDED ALL MY EXPECTATIONS AND WELL WORTH THE WAIT.
After everything that happens in book 1, Lord of Bones, this was a perfect conclusion to their story. With our FMC being fully kidnapped by the other lords of hell and going through torture to only realize that our MMC, while he was a dickhead in Lord of Bones, truly cares for her and would break through the realms just to get her back.
Now should I have read the trigger warnings more carefully? Yes definitely cause I wasn’t truly prepared for what happened in this one. This one was darker than Lord Of Bones for me BUT I STILL THROUGHLY ENJOYED IT.
Thank you sm to the authors for allowing me the opportunity to read this book early! 💙
Well.. that book fucked me.. royally. I can’t even begin to explain. This book, let alone this duet will be like nothing you’ve EVER read. (And for a good reason… I think.) And normally when you have these certain types of books the second one sucks. Not this one. This one is makes you cry, (ugly cry), hot anger, and swooning. All in one botched fucked up recipe that baked this book. So if you can’t tell by now I personally loved this book… and deeply am traumatized<3<3
This duology reads like an edgelord goth kid figured out what fan fic was wrote some books. So many cheesy sentences like "a goth queens wet dream". My spirit left my body cringing from so much. I think there is a lot of potential for this series, but it needs a lot of work. Also, way too rapey.
Title: Queen of Carrion Author: R.K Pierce and Aiden Pierce Stars: 5/5⭐️ Spice: 5/5 🌶 Spoilers: No This Book Left Me Feeling: 😱🥵🥰😍🫠😭☠️ Genre: Paranormal Romance Tropes: Touch her and ☠️, St@bby FMC, Death demon MMC, Monster appendages, Dark and twisty. My Favourite Quotes:
About The Book: The second and final installment in the Death Bound Duet, a series I am hysterically sad to see end. This book is full of such well crafted characters and a world I could read about forever.
What Will Stay With Me: The scene with the oar... I've never been so simultaneously disgusted and aroused. It fully sent my brain into sexy confusion and I am so here for it.
Review: When the first book in this duet came out I thought nothing could top it, and until now, nothing has. My flabbers are gasted and I just can not get over how amazingly perfect that was.
This book is full to the brim with fantastic character who you will love to hate or hate to love. Rayven is my all time favourite FMC, and I will never get enough of her snarky confidence. She has a PHD in badassery, and I 100% see exactly what Belial sees in her. Belial is... something else. There have been ups and downs, twists and turns, and Belial is just as difficult to navigate as his castle, but at the end of the day he's at least one thing we can all understand, a man desperately in love.
This world is full of the unexpected, and the characters go through hell and back for their HEA.It's not a steady journey down the river Styx, but it is sure as hell worth every second of that bumpy ride.
I’m not quite sure how to rate this. The first 1/4–/2 were really good but as you delve further into the book, it becomes quite repetitive with slight tweaks. However, I still very much enjoyed reading about Rayven and Belial.
The demon lords are not at all what I expected and we also have some closure with Catherine.
I actually even recently rewatched Labyrinth as this duet is a loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast and Labyrinth and I love the campiness that this story maintained throughout the duet. It is very much a dark story, but the humorous moments are campy and glam goth in a lot of ways (kind of like David Bowie and his glam rock look).
This sequel definitely left me wanting to know more about Rayven’s powers though and maybe less about each layer of hell and that left me a bit disappointed. However, all in all, a decent read!
Favorite Quotes: “You look so fucking sexy draped in the bones of unworthy men.”
After what felt like an eternity, the second book in the death bound duet is here, and wow, it was well worth the wait and didn't disappoint.
I demolished this book. I forgot how much i loved Belial and Rayven. These two had amazing chemistry even with Rayvens hatered of Belial they are ment for eacherother. It's dark, dirty, twisted, and spicy with plenty of monsters and a lost head or two.
Belial might not have been the best at being trusted, but god does, he show Rayven how much she means to him when he tears down his brothers and the circles of hell to save her.

“And when Belial gets here, he’s going to remove your other heads. Isn’t it cute, the way we coordinate like that?” holy hell. This book was totally worth the delay and extra time. I WANT to be like Rayven when I grow up(lol 36 is not grown) she was amazing. And Belial was a fucking beast. Tearing off heads of his brothers, chasing through hell for the woman he loves. Doesn't get anymore touch her and die then this.

I feel like I've waited forever for this! I read the first book in the early summer, and now (in autumn) I finally have my book! Beautifully written, and flows so well from the first. Havent been able to put it down since this morning, and managed to finish it already. I hope the author creates more stories!
Well this was dark. Some of this was hard to get through, but it felt like it kept repeating and that started to get a little annoying. Rayven girl, I wish you luck with the demon king you fell in love with in 5 days.
I REALLY liked book 1 but this felt like they just dragged it out. The same things kept happening to the point where it’s like … WHEN WILL THIS END. I had to put the book on pause for a while but in the end couldn’t continue.
The best part was the cliffhanger being resolved from book 1
