OMG Yes, finally finally finally! Sorry, I am just so happy about an event that happened in this book that was hinted to so many times, I was already wondering when it would truly happen. Not going to say what kind of event, you will have to find out. :D

This volume was just 100% adorableness and perfection. I do wonder though, since they have known each other for some time now, how did they not know about Mei's birthday? I know she was sick last year, but did no one ever think that it was strange that Mei never celebrated/had a birthday? I would find it strange at least, if one of my friends would never mention their birthday, or have a birthday. But apparently they didn't. Their reactions were hilarious and I just laughed so hard.

The Christmas party, I am so happy for Mei. From her little world she stepped into a bigger world, with a boyfriend, with friends, with family, her world is ever expanding and it is just so much fun to see her playing games, laughing and having a great time. Finally the hard times are over for Mei.

And that is what I love about this series as well. From a stoic, silent Mei, we are slowly getting a Mei who is realizing the world is at her feet, that her friends and her boyfriend love her, forever, that she doesn't need to hide behind a shell or a wall. She can just smile, relax and enjoy her days. And you can see that in everything she does. She is less stony towards her friends, instead she tells them (embarrassed of course, but anyone would be) what happens with her and Yamato, something I wouldn't have seen her do when the relationship just started.
In this volume you also see Mei realise all that. And it was just so much fun and I was just nodding, tearing up at times.

We also have 2 other couples, but I am not that interested in them. They are nice, but I come for Mei and Yamato, not for them.

The art is still gorgeous, though I still stick to what I said before I believe, that I find it weird that girls find themselves fat, but look like twigs. It just doesn't seem realistic. Like with the last part, where Mei weighs herself and is startled with her weight, and I am like, wait what? You are thin as a broom, why are you complaining about a bit of weight?
But other than that, the art is gorgeous,

All in all, there were some big steps taken in this book, and I am curious to see how the relationship will progress. I can't wait for the next volume to come out!

Simplemente genial! A pesar de que han pasado 10 volúmenes por fin Mei se da cuenta que las personas que están a su alrededor la quieren y se preocupan por ella.

Mei y Yamato dan un gran paso en su relación y no pueden ser más lindos.❤

This book was an important big step for Mei's story. I won't spoil it. The story about finding oneself and being comfortable in your own skin... and then doing the same with others by your side... really takes on how relationships and friendships take work from both sides. Communication, not just verbally, but in other ways too... the power of physical touch. For example, when was the last time you just hugged someone just because...plus the weight of the words "I love you", when you say them or someone says them to you.

The author expresses gratitude as the year comes to an end and the promise of a new and even better year ahead.

I really think this is one of my favorite manga series ever. The nuances that Kanae Hazuki finds and writes into the characters and story about emotions and relationships really stick with you. I really identify with Mei on a lot of things. The story makes me laugh and cry. Also just found out there’s an anime! I must find a way to watch it!

Kanae Hazuki wins for the best aftermath-of-sex-scene in YA that I've read - no hearts and flowers, no sudden magical deepening of the relationship, just awkwardness. If nothing else, it sends a message that sex doesn't always change everything that is refreshing in the romance genre.

So Mei and Yamato take a HUGE next step in their relationship. And I have to say, I like how Kanae Hazuki did that scene. I also like how it all ended up. That's probably more accurate than the typical YA story (to the point where even Mei comments on shoujo manga).

Suki-Tte Ii Na Yo a.k.a Say I Love You

A light read filled with positive messages.

(The rating and review are conclusion for all of the volumes excluding the synopsis. Beware of spoiler.)

《 Plot 》
The pace of the story is good. Although there are 18 volumes all over, it doesn’t make you lose interest in it. The story starts by introducing Mei who's a bully victim. She doesn’t have any friends because she always distances herself from people. This is because she has been betrayed by her friends back in the middle school. Ever since then, she never trusts people anymore. However, she begins to change when she gets to know Yamato. Yamato is a popular guy that has many friends and is wayyy too friendly with girls. He starts to approach Mei when she kicked him because of some misunderstanding that happened. Yamato pursues Mei every day which eventually leads them being together. The story starts to develop from there and it’s being told from Mei’s POV.

《 Characters 》
Mei Tachibana, the heroine
When Mei starts falling in love with Yamato, she feels scared of showing everything to him. I can relate to that a lot because you don't know how things will be so it's scary. There are other moments that I can relate to but I won't tell you to avoid spoiler.

At one point, Mei begins to change herself by engaging more with people around her. That's what makes her strong and kind girl. She is very observant of people around her and tries to help them the best she can. I love her character development.

Yamato Kurosawa, the hero
Yamato is a typical cool who is popular for his kindness. Despite being a cool popular guy, he still has his own flaws. There are some issues that he struggles with but didn't let people see him in that way. I wouldn't really picture him as a really good guy. He has his flaw but he learns to change little by little.

《 Pros & Cons 》
Realistic & healthy relationship
↳ There are several couples born in this comic and each of them shows what relationship is likely to be in real life especially Mei’s relationship. If you have been in a relationship, several situations that happened will make you go “Omg, I went through that too!”. On top of that, most of them are in a healthy relationship making it enjoyable to read.

Positive messages
↳ It touches the issue of bully and friendship. Although Mei has been bullied, she doesn’t retaliate at those who had betrayed her back then. It also shows that life is more wonderful with loyal companions being by your side.

The art drawn
↳ It’s not that the art are bad or anything. It’s just not really my cup of tea. I noticed that the art was changing slightly as the volume continues on. It got better in my opinion.

《 Extras 》
My favourite manga! I keep going back to this whenever I feel like reading something light and fun. This is my first manga that I read when I first started to read comic. I was so happy when I found out this comic had completed in English version. These are several quotes that I love from this story.
“Nothing makes a girlfriend more insecure than a boyfriend who's kind to everyone.”
“No matter how beautiful you are, when you're dating someone, all of your flaws come out.”
“If you want to move forward, sometimes, you can't keep doing things the way you've always done them. That peace of mind ruins you and hurts people.”
“You can get stronger by loving others and letting them love you.”

⚝ Who should read? ⚝
❥ Enjoy high school story.
❥ Love friendship theme story.
❥ Can tolerate typical “famous guy” falls for “unpopular girl”.

✎ Synopsis Volume 10

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! and happy birthday sweet meimei. This might be one of my favorite volumes so far and not because they…. well had sex it’s the way it was written that makes me love their relationship so much more. Mei being the one to initiate it too made me really happy and the fact it didn’t feel rushed at all, even the scene itself felt calm? Relaxed in way. It wasn’t about them having sex it was about them making love, trusting each other and Mei especially seeing Yamato loves her truly. Besides her romantic relationship with her boyfriend I loved every single relationship Mei has with the rest accepting her friends love saying she loves them too and telling them about what happened with Yamato. Them being so happy for the both of them was so sweet too. Im actually so surprised how much I grew to like Aiko, because when I first started reading I couldn’t stand her at all. The private conversation she had with Mei near the end and even the hug was so freaking sweet she said Mei has grown a lot but so has she. the addition of Daichi was a little unexpected, but cute nonetheless I wish him well on his new relationship. So yeah overall im glad I picked this up again after months and definitely not disappointed!!! I feel like Mei’s ‘character development’ can be a little slow at times, but then again if she changed overnight that would be even more out of character and you can see her trying in the little things she does.

4.5 This felt like a showcase and celebration of how far Mei has come both as a person in the story and the narrative of growth that Kanae writes about the story at large through Mei and others! All the while we get sweet Christmas and Birthday moments that cement the reminiscing on her growth and the beautiful state she is at with friends and her lover.
I'm glad Kanae has it so that during Xmas Mei reminisces on how much has changed for her after opening up with Yamato and everyone else. It shows her growth and centers the main cast together well while showing a key aspect of the story in how we are capable of growing and getting out of our situations. It's also just really touching to see all the love and care they all share. Then the second half is even better with Mei herself tearing up over the change she's made and then she tries changing more in touching Yamato rather than Yamato touching her 😭
Oh! And Daichi and Kyoko officially date and it's so cute because they do it after talking about how Mei helped them both he able to express their feelings for each other more clearly and them they CONFESS THEIR LOVE to each other. Its so tender and sweet squee-inducing.

I started an album at the same time as this book and finished them at the same time, which was really sweet. This one made me cry like a baby lol, it reminded me a lot of my relationship with my partner and how much we’ve grown together over the last year and a half that we’ve been together. Mei reminds me a lot of myself, i struggle from a lot of similar insecurities, and her character inspires me in a lot of ways. Yamato is so loving, understanding, and compassionate. He reminds me so much of my partner, so this one resonated with me a lot a lot a lot. It was so endearing to see how Mei’s relationship with Aiko has deepened as well, i like Aiko’s character very much. Asami is so sweet and i love how kind everyone is to Mei. It just warms my heart to read these books lol.

I liked the christmas party that was really nice seeing her with friends and her bf. But it eerked me that she said she wanted to lose her virginity but she kept her eyes close the whole time and this wasn't at night. I just can't see why he would want to do that nor her.... I don't know maybe its me and maybe cause I lost my viginity in college not in high school, but I can't imagine experincing that with my partner for the first time and their eyes are closed the whole time... like that can't be enjoyable.

A lot of progress what made in this chapter if you know what I mean ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Anyway! It’s a new year and the end of their second year of high school! Who knows what new characters or new stories will be brought to this group?!

I sure am looking forward to Kai and Megumi’s arc because who doesn’t like the they hated each other and now love each other trope lol

This volume didn’t have any authors notes which I was just becoming fond of reading 😭

This was just really sweet. It's nice to see Mei's progress and seeing her become a more open and connected person and seeing how much all of her relationships have changed her for the better. (Also I think it was sweet that Mei and Yamato's first time was very much in character and they were still awkward and a bit shy with each other.)

This was better than the last two volumes, but it still wasn't good. Mei and Yamato's relationship is progressing so quickly but they still act like they have recently started dating. The Christmas scenes were okayish... but I just don't feel any connection to any of the other characters besides Kai.

Beautiful volume!
Loved seeing the friends group altogether.
Loved seeing Mei reflect on the year and how much she has changed for the better. All because of Yamato! He opened her eyes and her heart.
