“Did I just see a hot chick running down the road with a live chicken under her arm?”

Ash

Commitment is not my thing nor do I want it to be.
After the things I’ve been through with women, I have sworn off relationships.
There’s only ever been one woman that I thought I felt pulled to and I blew it. Not only was it the best date of my life, it was also the worst night of my life.
Since then, I have become a nail and bail kind of guy.
But then Sunday Sutton bursts back into my life, and ends up living with her son and their pet chicken across the hall from me.
There is no avoiding her or her radiant presence – everyone at the shop loves her, my sister loves her. Every time I open my mouth, I make it worse. But when I need a date to a wedding, Sunday is the only one that I can think I would want to be there with me.
In fact, she’s the only one I want to be with anywhere.

Sunday

Ash Johnson is unbelievable. He’s arrogant, conceited, self-absorbed and he’s everything I do not want in my life.
We had one night, years ago, and ever since he has been awful towards me. Well, I am sick of him and his nonsense. It doesn’t matter anyways, my son and I have a few more months until we are back home in Alabama.
But when I find myself living across the hall from him, I can’t help but be caught up in his charm.
Ash could be easy to love, if only he would let people in to see the real him, and not this shallow version of himself he projects.

Hot Damn, I think I almost forgot how much I love D.J.'s writing, since the last time I visited Hel's Ink. I can not get enough of her writing. Ash is no exception, I was so completely wrapped up in the story that I simply could not—would not—put it down. The Hel's Ink men are just made different. I fall for them every time.

I don't think I fully realized how much I missed being with the Hel's Ink crew until I was back and loving every second of it. I live for the funny banter!

D.J. writes complex characters that I respect and want to root for every step of the way. It's the perfect feeling to read Ash and Sunday's story and have them feel completely relatable. All the challenges, flaws, or quirks they have are worthy of love and never pushed aside but instead embraced as much as possible.

I’m gonna preach from my high horse…if you haven’t read the Hel’s Ink series, you need to immediately. Ash is another great story in this fantastic series. I devoured this book in less than a day! The sarcasm and banter was fantastic. I literally laughed out loud through out the book. I also teared up too. DJ knows how to bring out the feels. Seriously…you need to read this series.

I devoured this book in a day! I could not stop reading it! I was so excited to dive into Ash and Sunday's story! Ash and Atlas are besties, so through Atlas' book, we got a glimpse of Ash, but he was still a mystery to us. The same with Sunday. I love them together!

⬇️ Tropes ⬇️
✔️ Enemies to lovers
✔️ Close proximity
✔️ Single Mom
✔️ Tattoo Artist
✔️ Broody, touch her and die MMC
✔️ Strong independent FMC
✔️ Found family
✔️ Laugh out 3 banter
✔️ Mental health representation
✔️ Disability awareness/representation
✔️ Adorable witty kid
✔️ Adorable pet chicken named Alice

Ash picks up around 3 months after the end of Atlas. We knew from previous books that there is history between Ash and Sunday, but we didn't get the full details until this book. I feel like I won't be able to go into too much depth in this review because I do not want to spoil anything for anyone. BUT what I can say is that Sunday and Ash, their banter is hilarious! I laughed out loud so many times. They were hilarious without trying to be funny. Even when they couldn't stand each other, they still had moments where they were so frickin' cute together.

This book is a lot deeper than the other books, in my opinion. My heart broke for Sunday, Ash, and Wade. Sunday is so strong. She was really inspiring. She had been through so much and on top of everything else, she was raising Wade and he is such a good kid! Sunday has Epilepsy. I'm not an expert on Epilepsy, but it seemed pretty bad. She couldn't drive because of it and it seemed she could never go more than a few months without having a seizure. Wade had to be so strong and worry about Sunday. I can't imagine how hard all of that must have been on him growing up. One thing is for sure, Sunday NEVER let her Epilepsy get in the way of her life or her goals that she wanted to reach. She was amazing!

Ash... oh our precious Ash *sigh*. He had also been through so much. He had Daddy issues and an ex girlfriend from hell! She was mentally and physically abusive to him and it caused very deep emotional scars. I wanted to punch her in her stupid face!!! He has always had anxiety and depression, but all of that added to it and it broke my heart that he was made to feel "less of a man" because of his mental illness. Not only does Ash have all of that on him, but his sister, Indy, is very sick and he helps take care of her. It's a lot for one person, but Ash is always there for the people he loves without question. Underneath his asshole manwhore exterior, he cares so deeply and is sensitive. Anyone would be honored to be loved by him.

I love that DJ Krimmer approaches difficult subject matter like Epilepsy (Sunday), mental Illness (Ash), Diabetes (Ren), Janie has a condition that makes her shake, Multiple Sclerosis (Indy), Endometriosis (Stevie).... this whole group of amazing people have these illnesses and disabilities and DJ does such an amazing job bringing awareness to them and showing how strong people are and can be. None of them let their disability hold them back. They support one another and love one another. The found family with this group is extraordinary. I'm sad and jealous that they aren't real and that I can't be in their friend group. I want to go work at Hel's Ink and hang out with everyone. I would totally work the front desk for them! I'm legit sad that I can't.

Derek's book is next and I already know it's going to have my emotions messed up. He is another mystery to solve and I'm pretty sure I know who his love interest will be and I can't wait to see how that unfolds. I think I'm most excited for Stevie's book. She is such a great friend to everyone and I want her to find her HEA too. Plus her grandmother is hilarious 😂.

I can't say what happens, but chapter 15 had me swooning so hard for Atlas and Ren. I think out of Fox, Atlas, and Ash... Atlas is still my favorite. I love all of them, but there is something about that cinnamon roll book boyfriend that I love so much and that is Atlas! Sunday is my favorite female character so far. She is so freaking amazing, witty, and strong!

Please read this series. It's funny, emotional, sexy, brings awareness and representation to difficult subjects, found family, tattoo artists, touch her and die vibes, strong FMCs, it's everything you could want in a book/series!

When I tell you I’m obsessed with these men of Hel’s Ink even more these strong and beautiful women! 👏🏼

You definitely knock it out of the park with this book. Ash and Sunday met years ago but the night ended in disappointment. Years pass and both are faced with feelings towards one another. They aren’t going to get rid of each other so easily especially since they have the same group of friends. Awkward..

I love how in depth you went with the insecurities and emotions of Ash himself. It’s refreshing to see him feeling this way especially it’s “not normal” for men to feel the way he does but in reality it what makes a person human. Male or female. He had to overcome a lot due to personal relationships. Here comes Sunday turning his world upside down making not only herself but making Ash confront his feelings that he tries so hard to bury. Both not wanting to get hurt once again. She’s a single mom who been through her own hardships at a very young age. I commend her for being the best mother she can be and doing everything she can for her child.

Even though the FMC’s throughout this series deal with some sort of disability, they are some of the most badass women I’ve come across. I’m in such awe of each one. Ash and Sunday are definitely my favorite. The right person sees you for who are and treats you how you should be treated. They understand you and will always be by your side through the highs and lows of life.

Amazing storyline that sucks you in with spice that will make your jaw drop. 😮‍💨🥵
This book has you shedding some tears, laughing your ass off and has you completely shocked. Definitely a rollercoaster of emotions.
PERFECTION *Chef’s Kiss*

So excited for Derek’s book! Anxiously waiting!🖤

We are back in the world of 𝗛𝗲𝗹'𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗸, folks. And, I will tell you this. Do. Not. Miss. It. 𝙳𝙹 𝙺𝚛𝚒𝚖𝚖𝚎𝚛 gives us Ash & Sunday's story, and just like with Fox & Atlas, you're going to fall head over heels for Ash!

Oh Ash. My heart melted for him! He has issues from past experiences and struggles mentally, but when he meets Sunday....he falls. And falls 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙙. I adored the way he was with both Sunday and her son. I couldn't get enough of him being so sweet to them!

Sunday is a single mom with health issues, and oh what fun she was. I adored her and her son, Wade. And, when she had to move in with Ash, be his "fake" girlfriend to his mom's wedding......it was a delight to listen to. The chemistry between her and Ash is undeniable and strong.

The banter between these two was off the charts and I was so glad I was there for it! I adored the nicknames! The spice was perfection. And, let's not forget the way Ash was with Sunday's son. Those two.....my heart melted!

𝐺𝑟𝑎𝑦𝑠𝑜𝑛 𝑂𝑤𝑒𝑛𝑠 & 𝑆𝑡𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑎 𝐵𝑙𝑜𝑜𝑚 did a magnificent job on voicing these characters. Their voices flowed beautifully together, making the emotional moments so real for me, the funny moments were so much more funny with their voices. They made this characters blossom to life in the best way!

Complete with sinfully delicious tattoo artists, a pet chicken, and found family, 𝙳𝙹 𝙺𝚛𝚒𝚖𝚖𝚎𝚛 has once again knocked me to my knees with this one. I adored this book, I adore this series, and I know I'm going to fall just as hard for the next one! I can not wait!

Book 3 in the Hel's Ink series gives us Sunday, the struggling single mom to 12-year-old Wade, whom she had at a very young age due to SA, and Ash, another of the tattoo artists we've met in the previous two books. Ash lives with his younger sister, Indie, who has a serious medical diagnosis, and thanks to other factors in his past, Ash has a panic/anxiety disorder that he covers up with quick wit and his playboy ways. These two shared a date and ONS gone wrong a few years back, and due to the mortification of it, Ash hasn't treated Sunday all that well... so when she and her son are suddenly around a lot more and their chemistry is once again ignited, will they be able to put the past behind them, and can Ash allow himself to be vulnerable enough to be loved?

After loving books 1 & 2 of this series, I went into book 3 with somewhat high expectations and had them unfortunately fall flat, and I'm gutted. Ash knows he has a panic disorder, he knows said disorder means he keeps people at arm's length when it comes to deep emotions and connections, and he does absolutely nothing throughout this book to improve his own emotional state or to learn to regulate himself. He just makes it everyone else's problem, and although I felt for his character and wholeheartedly believe the topics brought up through his character are important and ones that need to be represented in media and that Krimmer tackled these themes with care, watching his character constantly repeat the same self-destructive and hurtful behavior towards others was frustrating for me.

I ended up feeling no chemistry or real romantic connection between Sunday and Ash, to the point that I honestly felt these two would have been better off apart by the end of the book, as they just didn't feel like they were good for each other as a couple. This book gets two stars because, as stated above, some of the themes within it are really important ones to be represented and were mostly handled well, in my opinion, and I enjoyed Stella Bloom and Grayson Owens' performances in the audiobook. Other than that, I don't have much else to say on this one. Let's hope the next book brings back the brilliant vibes and enjoyment I got from the first two books of this series whenever I get around to it. 🤞

"You're done being strong for the rest of this trip, you hear me? I'm in charge and until we hit those apartment doors I'm your boyfriend right now. You don't have to be strong anymore. That's my job.'

Sunday's having her surgery today, and no one is keeping me in the loop because according to my sister: "You didn't want to be her boyfriend, so you don't get to ask boyfriend things.'

"Hey," I say softly as I continue folding laundry. "Hey, sunshine," his voice is soft and sleepy, which is understandable. He and the guys worked on the studio for about seven hours today. "What are you doing?"
"Folding underwear," I sigh and shake my head at his suggestive chuckle,
"Oh? Tell me more., Lacy? Black? Thong?"
"Boxers, blue with SpongeBob on them." I laugh as he groans.
"Fiiiine, ruin my fantasy," he mutters."

Ash is the third book in the Hel’s Ink series.

I absolutely loved this book with my entire soul! I’m already a big fan of the Hel’s Ink series and felt completely honoured to receive a copy of this book.

The plot was incredible and engaging and there wasn’t a single moment where I felt it wasn’t at the right pace.

Our MMC Ash is a hilarious, golden-retriever energy, sweet and loving man who just wants to be accepted and loved despite his flaws.

Our FMC Sunday is a fierce, loyal, strong, independent woman who just wants to give her son Wade, the best life possible.

Ash was a hilarious, angsty, spicy and emotional story of second chance love which had me feeling all of the feels.

It was a book that I couldn’t put down and I was awake until the early hours of the morning some nights because “just one more chapter”

This book genuinely had me laughing out loud at points. I loved the banter between Ash & Atlas and all of the other Hel’s Ink boys. But as well as this book being hilarious, it was equally as heartbreaking/gut-wrenching to learn of Ash & Sunday’s pasts, their past relationships and heartbreak.

As a disabled and chronically ill girlie, I love the disability representation in this series and could relate to Sunday, having had seizures myself in the past. There were parts in this book where I genuinely felt like DJ had got inside my own head and wrote my own thoughts and feelings about being a disabled girl and the struggles when it comes to dating/relationships and being vulnerable with others.

The lengths Ash would go to for Sunday was majorly swoony! I love them both so much ❤️

Ash is available to read on June 8th 2024 on Amazon in hardback and paperback, DJ Krimmer’s website and on KU 💖

(Note to DJ: I was absolutely cracking up laughing at the TWD ‘look at the flowers’ reference 😂)

I received an ARC of this book. All comments, thoughts, and opinions are my own. (Ash Revamp)

Ok DJ just keeps giving us amazing books! There are no words for just how good Ash is. I devoured this book the second I saw it had landed in my email. This is a series I miss the instant I finish the book and one I will be revisiting often.

Tropes for this book are:
🪷 Single Mom
🪷 Tattooed MMC
🪷 Disability Rep
🪷 Found Family
🪷 Male Panic Disorder Rep
🪷 Banter
🪷 One Night Stand Gone Wrong

This book has a fantastic plot, amazing spice, and beautiful characters that just grab your heart and pull you in. I laughed, I cried, and fell in love with these characters and this world!

Ash is the third book in DJ’s Hel’s Ink series and Ash is our sweet, spicy, golden retriever who just wants to be seen as being enough. Sunday is our strong, fierce, independent single mama just trying to do the absolute best for her son Wade. I love everything about these two and this whole world DJ has created. She gave us characters and a world where we can relate to characters who just want to be seen, loved, and accepted for being exactly who they are. DJ has such a fantastic way of bringing awareness to the disabilities in each book and shining such a bright light on them and the characters, showing both the hard times the characters face and the love and acceptance the characters find through the amazing Hel’s Ink family. She does an amazing job of showing that someone is not just their disability, they are far more and they are far stronger than they see themselves.

I cannot recommend this book enough! This whole series actually. This series is absolutely a tops series for me and has landed on my comfort reads list. I know for a fact I will be revisiting this series often.

Loved it. Binged it. Couldn’t get enough of it.

This book is so easily related with real life situations and written to perfection! I could not put it down and if I had one complaint is that I want even more of Charming & Sunshine’s story.

Ash has made it his mission to know how to show up for women in bed after an abusive relationship years ago followed up by a perfect date that ended up confirming the negative things he had once been told.

When Sunday starts spending more time around the group & he learns more and more around her, he can’t seem to stay away. Or stop putting his foot in his mouth. He has to struggle with his own past to see the future he wants and what it will take to have it.

Sunday is a single mom from the start who takes no shit and does everything she can to take care of her son, Wade. After her life in Alabama and then a horrible marriage & divorce in Cali, she refuses to allow herself to trust any man in her life.

Throughout their story Ash starts breaking down Sunday’s walls only to struggle within himself with his own fears resulting in Sunday’s walls building right back up. In the end, they learn that they both must give a little to have the life they both so desperately want.

Ash is Book 3 in the Hel's Ink series. This is Ash and Sunday's story. Ash struggles with commitment especially after the things he's been through with women. However, there was one girl that changed his mind. It was the best date ever, but also the worst night of his life. Fast forward to now and Sunday and her son end up moving in with Ash. The close proximity makes Sunday see Ash in a different light compared to the shallow version people see of him.

This was so cute! Ash and Sunday were perfect for eachother. Sunday always brought out Ash's charming side and made him want to be more vulnerable with her. Sunday was so resilient. Despite her daily health struggles she faced everything with a realistic outlook. I loved how she was striving for a better life for her and her son. I loved their close knit relationship. I also enjoyed seeing Ash form a bond with Sunday's son. As for the formed friendship and found family with the girls. I loved how Sunday found support in them.

The audiobook narration is amazing! Performed in duet narration by Grayson Owens and Stella Bloom. These two knocked it out of this world! Grayson exuded Ash's charm and conveyed Ash's mental struggles in the most raw form. It's not always talked about that men struggle with mental illness too so I loved how it was brought to light in this story. Stella was fantastic! I loved her Southern accent. She easily transitioned through the dialogue and characters seamlessly. Both Grayson and Stella brought out all the emotions with this one.

Audiobook available now!

Thank you to bluenoseaudio for my ALC in exchange for an honest review.

DJ Krimmer really knows how to write em! I love this series so much and I’m so excited to listen to the rest of it! Ash and Sunday's relationship starts off a little rocky due to a one night stand gone wrong and a little bit of miscommunication. But as time goes on, they slowly start to realize how much they mean to each other. It's a rollercoaster of a story with some tough topics thrown in, but I enjoyed every minute of it. The pacing and progression of their relationship was done so well in my opinion. I love how Ash bonded with Sunday's son, Wade, and how Ash's sister was welcomed into the group of friends as well. One of the things I love most about DJ’s writing is the different representations sprinkled throughout each book. They lend a hand in helping people feel seen and less alone as they go through their own struggles. I feel like I’ve been able to connect with each story and/or a character on some personal level. I feel like I’m able to enjoy it that much more when it’s real and relatable like that.

“𝑰𝒇 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒔𝒉𝒆’𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒚 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒇𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆.”

I love how this series is being done duet style! Stella Bloom has the sweetest accent, and I thought that it fit flawlessly for Sunday's character! Stella was able to shine light to Sunday’s tough side but when she broke or was vulnerable, I felt all of the emotions. Grayson Owens voiced grumpy Ash so well, and I really enjoyed the two of them together. Grayson also did a phenomenal job portraying Sunday’s son, Wade.

Book 3 in the Hel’s Ink series hit me like a wrecking ball. It’s a whole lot more than just a fake dating story! Throughout the entirety of this book I was either laughing, feeling some incredible spice, or wanting to sob for both Sunday & Ash respectively.

There is some juicy history between Ash, one of Hel’s Ink tattoo artists and Sunday. Their history is a miscommunication in itself; and has left both Sunday and Ash being avoidant of each other in the 2 years since they had a one and done date. Once they find some common ground, everything starts exploding.

Sunday is a strong and independent FMC and what I loved about her immediately was her devotion to her 12 year old son, Wade (who I feel steals the show in this book— he is SUCH an integral part of the story). She carries some trauma and struggles to make ends meet, and lives a full life with her epilepsy. She is relatable and real.

Ash is a unique MMC — he carries his own trauma and is an example of how men can also be caught in abusive and damaging relationships at the hands of their female partners. His ex really does a number on him, and is the reason he enters into a fake dating relationship with Sunday — to bring her as a date to a wedding his ex is also attending. DJ captures his inner turmoil with such rawness and understanding.

Throughout the entirety of this story I was rooting for Ash, Sunday and Wade to find their future together….and it’s a rollercoaster. What DJ does so well is she evolves these characters to a point that you feel you KNOW them — Sunday really stole my heart in this story. I wanted nothing but the best for her and found myself cheering for her frequently. And her smart mouth and protectiveness for both Wade AND Ash is what makes her so fierce.

I enjoyed this ARC so much. I could live in the Hel’s Ink universe with this crew.

DJ Krimmer Does It Again!

Ash and Sunshine is the third book in the Hel’s Ink series.

Ash is a commitment-phobe after his one and only girlfriend put him through the wringer and made him feel unworthy of love.

Sunday is a single momma who married a man who didn’t want anything to do with her son and treated them both horribly.

The walls these two both have seem to be as indestructible as the Great Wall of China. Until Sunday moves next door and the forced proximity breaks them down little by little. We love the forced proximity trope :)

The spice ramps up and watching these two fumble their way to a HEA is such a joy and in true DJ Krimmer fashion she knocks it out of the park for the third time.

Ash and Sunday’s story does not disappoint, and you’ll love the humor, spice and HEA of these two!

I was hooked from the beginning. First of all I am a sucker for enemies to lovers so right off the bat I knew I was going to love it. She knocked it out of the park on this one! The friendships and relationships were written really well too. I really enjoyed that we got to see the real and raw side to having illnesses. Her writing flows so well, it's easy to get sucked into the story and fall in love with the characters. I discovered this author not too long ago and I have yet to find a book of hers that I don't enjoy. I definitely recommend any of her work!

ASH - Revamped Edition: 8th June 2024 release date.

I am such a big fan of DJ’s work! I find her characters relatable, engaging and am always fully engrossed in the storylines. Ash and Sunday’s storyline is no exception to this, I couldn't get enough of them. The individual growth and couple milestones… and the little family they create together are just the sweetest thing ever. Definitely had me feeling all the emotions.

The banter between characters was per usual fun and feisty, as is to be expected from a Krimmer read. One of the things I adore so much when reading a book from this series is how often I’m left chuckling along with the characters and their quips… there’s nothing better than a book that gets you in your laughing feels!

The mental health and disability reps in the author’s books are always well appreciated and in this one in particular, the single mum rep and found family focus made my heart sing! And lets not forget what we love best from the Hel’s Ink series… tatted up softie LI’s. If you haven't already, get reading - but check out the newly revamped ASH by DJ Krimmer 🖤🤌🏻💋

Sending out all the love to our indie Author who’s kicking a goals and being Boss!
Many thanks for the ARC - I am on the ARC Team, however, my review is given freely and without incentive… I just really LOVED reading ASH and all the Hel’s Ink series ✨

So many contemporary romance stories have similar tropes. Not this one! The MMC has been emasculated to the point of panic attacks. He doesn’t have much of a personality so I found him a little boring. He doesn't lack passion so the spicy scenes were good. I just get frustrated with book characters who take too long to fix their issues. It's probably because I am impatient, ha.

However the FMC is southern and full of spitfire. Opposites attract. She was a fun character.

I just didn’t connect with this story line, but appreciate the author trying something new.

The books in this series just keep getting better and better.

Yet again DJ has delivered a story I devoured in a day, with a great plot, spice and complex, lovable characters.
Characters who are flawed and broken and totally relatable and you won't be able to stop yourself falling in love with them.

It was jarring to see the mask of confidence and cockiness Ash wore daily to slip away, showing the pain and emotional trauma that lay underneath, and I'm not ashamed to say I may have shed a tear or 5 for his broke pieces.

Sunday is such a strong and beautiful person, a brilliant friend and incredible mum to her teenage son Wade. Her story, like Ash's, is heart breaking and will tug on your heart strings.

The two of them together are the perfect fit and their dynamic together as a couple, and as a family with Wade, were beautifully executed.

All in all, this is easily a 5 star read, and I can't wait to relive their story again and again.

I love that DJ makes her books close to real life stressors. Many people don’t get to see the side of life where you love someone who is sick. I loved how Sunday and Ash are together. They both have their own things they struggle with. Buttt as love goes you accept and accommodate each other to make it work!

Oh my god...this book!! I absolutely love Ash and Sunday! Ash is so broken and Sunday is wanting to help him mend but he just doesn't see how. He broke my heart with his self doubt. Loved Sunday's quick humour and the protectiveness she felt, particularly when Shannon was around. Can't wait for Derek's book!

DJ Krimmer is the Queen/King/God at writing mental health and Chronic/hidden Illness's.
I live for the Hel's Ink crew, they are the world's best found family.

Ash broke my heart, they way he silently struggled in his past and how much it affects him still in his daily life. I love that he ended up with the hellfire that is Sunday! I am going to be so sad when this series comes to an end

-mental health & chronic Illness rep
- single mom
- second/neighbors chance Romance
- Fake dating

As I read through the Hel’s Ink series I fall more and more in love. I thought that Atlas was my favorite which in part still is but Ash just pulled on those mommy strings. ♥️
