Everyone remembers where they were when Washington D.C. was destroyed.

Cecelia "Cash" Turner wishes she could go back to the days before The United States ceased to exist. Before, the once proud nation was split into two entirely new countries. Before a man called The Southern Leader took over her homeland, announced that "radical thinking" caused America's downfall and, in response, outlawed participation in the arts. Almost instantly, Cash's world is turned upside down, and she spends her nights delivering illegal music, movies, and books to those willing to pay, all while dodging The Southern Leader's ruthless police force and endlessly hoping for change she fears may never come.
Then suddenly, two of The Southern Leader's men are mysteriously murdered, a strange symbol begins to appear seemingly everywhere, and whispers of rebellion start to arise all throughout her home country. Armed with her friends by her side, Cash dives headfirst into a journey for answers of who is behind it all, leading her into the depths of a dangerous fight for freedom she never dreamed possible.

A Thrilling, High-Stakes Dystopian Ride!

On Thin Strings by T.H. Tarvin is a gripping dystopian novel that delivers action, intrigue, and a fierce heroine you won’t soon forget. Set in a fractured America where the arts have been outlawed under an oppressive regime, this story follows Cecelia "Cash" Turner as she risks everything to keep creativity alive.

From the very first page, Tarvin plunges readers into a world where music, books, and movies are forbidden, and survival means operating in the shadows. Cash’s role as an underground smuggler of banned art makes her a compelling protagonist—bold, resourceful, and willing to fight for a future where self-expression isn’t a crime. The tension is razor-sharp as she navigates a society ruled by fear, dodging ruthless enforcers while witnessing the first sparks of rebellion.

The mystery surrounding the murdered officials and the cryptic symbol appearing across the country adds another layer of intrigue, pulling Cash into a dangerous conspiracy that forces her to question everything she thought she knew. The pacing is relentless, the stakes impossibly high, and the twists keep you guessing until the very end.

With rich world-building, heart-pounding suspense, and a story that feels eerily relevant, On Thin Strings is a must-read for fans of dystopian fiction. If you love stories about rebellion, resilience, and the power of art to ignite change, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. Five stars all the way!

I loved this book. It was a real page turner for me. So why only three stars? Two reasons. One I was never really sure of the MC’s journey. What specifically were we as readers supposed to be routing for her to get? BUT The writing and the plot kept me willing to suspend disbelief until the end and because it’s a book One I am even willing to hang on and see how everything plays out in book two, but again there were some big pieces toward the end that I found unbelievable particularly as it is concerns with motivation.

The other reason was the editing. The writing was very solid so it wasn’t a problem as it has been with books I DNF’d but the MC overused a few descriptions to the point of where I thought “we get it, her throat feels gravely, find a new way to describe her discomfort.” Also, there were missing words, wrong tense within a sentence, and other such issues that had the book been edited professionally would not have made it to print, especially toward the end where I assume the writer got tired of line editing.

All that said, this was a great book and with those two things addressed, this definitely could have been a Future Famous Authors book selection. It’s definitely worth the read, even as is.

A truly gripping dystopian world!

This book has really good world building that would grab the attention of any dystopian fan! The suspense throughout the story will keep you wanting to know what happens next!
The action was superb and well written, the pacing was very smooth, and i truly enjoyed how intriguing the plot was! The message behind this book is so important, and sadly relevant because there are actual places in the world that outlaw art and protest on the threat of death. She truly captures the message well and delivers it with emotional provoking story telling!
T.H. Tarvin is truly talented and deserves all the praise!

Wow. This is typically not my type of read. But I was very impressed with this work of art. Typically longer chapters are harder for me to make it through but the different fonts and communication styles was my cup of tea. There were times where places my hometown were brought up and it gave a fun development to the characters. I’m beyond proud of this author and I can’t wait until book 2. Love you Tay ❤️
