Courtney says, in the poem, she wants to capture what it’s like to watch a movie. But I think it’s more what it’s like to be in the brain of a movie person. Movies are everywhere. Characters are everywhere. References. Things from the world started in movies and now are just things. Movies create relationships, life long bonds, friends, lovers. And making movies… that’s none of my business but I’m glad it’s Courtney’s. I hope to see her at Nitehawk’s The Deuce B movie night soon and talk about vampires and how I’m feeding off her creative work and she doesn’t even know.
this was great! an ode to the movies & memory. i’m conducting a literary salon where we are discussing this in tandem with Dorothea Lasky’s essay “Memory,” & Bernadette Mayer’s “Memory.”
