Rate this book
He is fire and fury. I am forbidden to want him. But some fates refuse to be denied.

I have seen the war that will tear our realm apart. As a seer, it is my duty to stop it, and the path to peace is clear—until him.

The Dragon King is dominance and destruction, a force of nature my gift didn’t foretell… and one I cannot escape.

He is dangerous—untamed, possessive. And the one man I cannot afford to want.

Yet every glance, every searing touch, threatens to unravel the future I’m fighting to protect.

Loving him could mean my ruin.

Wanting him could mean the end of everything.

But when betrayals rise and destiny shifts, one truth becomes clear: I saw the war. I never saw him.

And now, I don’t know if I can stop what’s coming… or if I even want to.

Disclaimer: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the very first book I have read by Donna Grant and the first book I have read in any of the Dragon King series. So, to put it simply, I went into this book completely blind while only knowing the bits given from the blurb.

This series primarily focuses on dragons turned human shifters with a history and timeline spanning a "millennia" of history including war with both the non-magical and magical species for a variety of reasons. Each "Dragon King" is ordained by old magic to be the "king" of their dragon subspecies (or "clans") but overtime the society they once knew was lost to time. Now they live in two different worlds: The first being the magical world of "Zora" and the other being Earth, specifically Scotland (they all got that Scottish twang). The Dragon Kings also have their own King, Constantine (Con), who was also ordained by ancient dragon magic, to lead them and watch over them.

Dragon Forged is the 10th book in the Dragon King series starring seer Emilia, the war-hardened Dragon King Hector, and the foreboding premonition Emilia envisions that could spell doom for all inhabitants of Zora.

My first thoughts while reading this were that it felt like I had just jumped into an ice-bath with no warning and was clueless as to what was happening. I had so many questions and I quickly started worrying that I may have not had enough context or worldbuilding clues to put the pieces together to sort out the history I did need to know. But, as I read on, I did pick up more contextual clues to sort how everything worked including the information about the Dragon Kings' lore, the local politics, the culture, and the worlds themselves. The map helped tremendously as well and helped put every mentioned location into perspective.

As I began to understand more, I noticed this became more of a political-romance drama than anything else. It also involved both new and returning characters (and being new to the series, I didn't know for a while who was new and who was old). I found myself getting very invested with Emilia's role as well as her ties to he culture and politics of her island home. In fact, I actually ended up enjoying the political games and mystery more than the romance itself (which, to be fair, I felt was a little weak). The tension and the whiplash from the reveals had me on my toes and every time I tried to out-predict the story, I was usually wrong. I love to be so, so wrong when it comes to mysteries!

In fact, if I had any critiques it would be 1) the romance itself 2) a few missed opportunities for humor. For the romance, I would have liked to have seen more yearning, tension, and time spent truly learning the other. I'm a huge fan of that that bone-crushing yearning that has you squealing from the depths of your being. Though there was some yearning, I feel there definitely could have been much more. Let that romance simmer just a little bit longer. Or like the Dragon Kings say, just a wee bit longer. And as for the humor mention, well, it's more of a personal preference. There were a few scenes I know would have been absolutely hilarious if given just a little more of that playfulness and tone. I think it would have made some already great scenes absolutely perfect.

Going back to the topic of the romance, I loved the fact that this book actually had an intricate plot that could easily hold your attention as a reader. I feel like a love story without actual plot will almost always fall flat for me and that definitely was not the case here--the story's plot was weaved in beautifully along with the romance.

Now as far as characters go, I definitely had my favorites. Emilia was definitely very easy to sympathize with knowing her struggles and backstory. A lot of the growth of the story came from her own and it was easy to cheer her on. All of the characters had their own woes and worries, but I think the best characters for me were the side characters. This story would not nearly be as magical without them. Period.

So... with all those thoughts let me wrap this up. Do I think this is a book worth reading? Well, if you love dragon shifters with heavy Scottish accents, fated mates, unique dragon-lore, political drama, and are okay with soaking up the knee-deep lore of the Dragon King universe, this may just be for you. As for me, I think this is just the start of an amazing journey and I have a lot of catching up to do (Coming for you, Con!).

Dragon Forged by Donna Grant
Although I haven’t read the last several books in Donna Grant’s Dragon Kings series, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to dive back into the world. Even though this is the 10th book in the series, the fast-paced plot made it easy to follow without feeling lost or needing to revisit previous installments.
I actually read this one without catching up on any of the earlier books. While I could follow the story just fine, I imagine longtime readers would catch deeper world-building elements and character dynamics that I missed.
That said, I genuinely enjoyed the read. The concept of dragon shifters and magical beings was new for me. Although the beginning was a bit slow as I adjusted to the world and characters, the story really picked up around the halfway point. From there, it became much more engaging with plot twists that added intrigue and kept the pages turning.
However, one major drawback for me was the male main character’s dialogue. The author chose to write out his accent phonetically instead of simply mentioning it, which made his lines difficult to read. It consistently pulled me out of the story and became more of a distraction than a feature.
Overall, Dragon Forged was an enjoyable read with an exciting concept and solid pacing, especially in the second half. The stylized dialogue did affect my immersion in the story, but the book still offered a unique and entertaining experience.

Hector is the Dragon King of the Sea Green dragons. While working at Iron Hall, Hector rolls away a rock and finds a slowly blinking turquoise light. When he touches it, he is transported somewhere else. He was lured there and now he is trapped. Emilia is a seer and has seen the dragon in her vision. If the Dragon Kings come , they will destroy Zora. Because Emilia didn’t tell the higher ups about her vision, she is stripped of her status and put in jail. Hector gets her out and takes her to a cave that is has put a protection spell around. Hector is spelled to be a part of the island. He cannot hurt anyone who lives there. Unless they have hurt someone first. When he is put under a spell, will he be able to fight it and not hurt Emilia?
Great story. Mystery. Sort of friends to lovers. Forced proximity. Steamy at the end. Hector is a dragon and doesn’t like downtime. Emilia likes it best being in the background.

Dragon Forged is another very enjoyable installment in Donna Grant’s captivating Dragon King series, and it doesn’t disappoint. We are brought back to Zora but we’re not interacting with the humans this time. Hector, King of the Sea Green Dragons is magically drawn to Highvale, the area within Zora that is a safe haven for all those with magic where he meets Emilia, a seer who has lived most of her life in Highvale as a member of their Guild.
Emilia has had a vision that warned of a terrible event if a dragon came to Highvale. She had been having the same vision for years and tried to change its occurring. What stood out most for me was Emilia—her journey of rediscovering her inner strength was empowering. Watching her come into her own while facing impossible odds to save Hector added real heart to the story.
There’s a great balance of action, and romance, with just enough tension to keep the pages turning. The connection between Emilia and Hector felt genuine, and their shared history brought depth to their dynamic. Donna Grant continues to build on the lore of her dragon universe, and fans of the series will appreciate the familiar threads woven into this new adventure with Rhi (Queen of Dragon Kings and mate to Constantine or Con, King of Dragon Kings and King of Golds – from Inferno, Heart of Gold, of Fire and Flame, and Dragon Frost), and Lottie (Star People and mate to Alastair, King of the Amethyst – from Dragon Arisen and Dragon Kiss) having strong involvement in the storyline and the other Dragon Kings are in the storyline but unlike most of the other books, they’re not directly involved in the happenings at Highvale.
A satisfying, magical read that reminds you just how powerful love—and believing in yourself—can be.

Wait, there is now a refuge for the magically endowed? Different than Ironhall and not with elves? And who is Hector? I have read all the book in this series and others and I do not seem to remember Hector. What I am learning about him, I am liking. I am a bit mixed on his fated mate, Emilia. For those who have been reading this series, more questions show up and few are answered. This is a recurring theme. For new to the Dragon Kings series, this book can be read as a standalone. There are brief recaps to help provide context in this complex world.

I enjoyed this amazing story. Donna Grant has a way of bringing words to life and transporting you into the story and Dragon Forged is no exception. Dragon Forged brings us to a new location on Zora with it’s own mystery, Highvale. Hector was brought to this island by accident (or so we are think), kicked out by the most beautiful woman he has ever seen and then returned to find out who she is and why she tricked him. Emilia, a seer, is trying to not only save her home and friends, but all of Zora from her vision. Hector, Emilia, Teo, along with some help from Rhi and Lotti, have to find a way to unravel the political corruption in order to save the realm and free Hector from his surprise binding to the island.
This is a page turner of a story and will not let you down. They mystery alone will keep you up to find your answers.

In this story, a seer attempts to keep a Dragon King from her island to prevent atrocities she saw in her visions. This is the only book I've read from the Dragon Kings series so I missed world building from the other books. It wasn't hard to follow along, however.

Emilia frustrated me. She was so sure about what she was supposed to do but visions are unreliable magic. How did she know she wouldn't cause the vision to happen by trying to stop it anyway? Hector, on the other hand, I enjoyed. He is not the morally gray hero we often see in today's stories. In fact, I disagree with the blurb that he is "untamed, possessive." Hector did not come across like this at all. He was honorable and honest and communicated well.

Because I haven't read the previous books I was not connected to some side characters. I groaned every time I got to a chapter from Iron Hall. By the end of the book I was somewhat convinced to go back and read more of this series. It was a fun and enjoyable read.

Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC.

Another fun, entertaining fantasy romance! Good danger and action as always, and good passionate romance. A nice slow burn going on between Emilia and Hector. Good times! I enjoy the seer storyline and being in the interesting town of Highvale, but I hate how those that get visions of the future in books never use them correctly. Such a bummer! Cool magical world though! The vision is one of doom, so Emilia with the help of Hector set out to save many from destruction! Always enjoy these books!

This is the first book I’ve read in this series, however I really enjoyed it! There wasn’t like a super ton of world building, however I also haven’t read any of the other books so it’s very possible I missed some of that through the series.

I really enjoyed the style of magic that was laid out in this book with the dragon kings and the others. I’ve read other books where the magic didn’t really make a lot of sense but it felt like it did in this book.

This was such a fun read!

Magic, seers AND dragons!!

This is a standalone book part of a much larger series! This is the first book I have read by the author and I didn’t feel lost in this standalone, so it is safe to say you can read it on its own! I will say I loved all the side characters and would love to go back and get their stories!!

This book had mystery and so much character development!! The fmc grows so much and I every second of it!

Dragon forged grabbed my interest, hooked me and took me to a hidden world. I got lost in the excitement. I shocked by manipulation and treachery. I read until my eyes would no longer stay open. Then I dreamed of a dragon of sea green. I woke to Hector's roar of anger and frustration.

Dragon Forged was full of mystery. Hector was determined to find answers. He returned to Highvale ignoring that he had been forced out by a woman. He was determined to find the woman who dared to deceive him and shove him out a door. How would it be possible when he didn't know her name.

Emelia held answers, or at least some of them. As a seer, she saw bits and pieces of the future. She was determined to prevent the horrors that she had seen. It must have been horrid, witnessing her determination to stop what was coming. I was excited to see what she feared. I couldn't wait to see if she would succeed. Dragon Forged created goosebumps, chills and so many thrills.

Little did I know that there would be so many mind blowing moments. Treachery had me doubting everyone, everything. Manipulation put Emelia and Teo, a boy Hector had befriended, in danger. Would Hector be able to save them?

The leaders were determined to get what they wanted. Learning who was pulling the strings behind the scenes left me speechless. I honestly didn't see it coming. It could change everything. Hector would have help, but would they be enough. Would Hector be strong enough to fight an invisible foe? Would everyone survive? I could not wait to see what happened. Page after page, chapter after chapter, I was reading a story that I couldn't get enough. So many emotions. So much suspense. So much hope. I can't wait to see what happens next.

DRAGON FORGED is the tenth instalment in Donna Grant’s adult DRAGON KINGS paranormal, fantasy romance series set in the author’s multi-interconnected series. This is Dragon King of Sea Green Hector, and seer Emilia’s story line. DRAGON FORGED can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

SOME BACKGROUND: For tens of thousands of years the Dragons have lived and ruled on Earth but a war between the dragons and humans forced the Dragon Kings to send the other dragons through a portal into an unknown world. Fast forward to present day, the portal has been revealed, and the Dragon Kings have been reunited in Zora, with their family and kin, but hoping to have left their struggles behind, there is always a new enemy taking aim at the Dragons Kings.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspective (Hector and Emilia) DRAGON FORGED follows in the wake of the discovery of a cave, an entry into an unknown world known as Highvale. Dragon Kings Hector and Marcus were bored, and decided to explore Iron Hall, the underground city they knew little about but a force compels Hector to travel further where he will find himself a virtual prisoner in the village of Highvale, where his magic is locked and he is unable to return to the Iron Hall. Emilia is a powerful seer, and believes she is working for the good of the people of Highvale but within hours of Hector’s arrival, Emilia begins to discover there is more to Hector’s entrance than she could have ever imagined. Hoping she has not been betrayed, Emilia finds herself working to free our story line hero, a man who is trapped in more ways than one.

The world building traverses between Highvale and Iron Hall. Rhi is forced to venture through to a world she knows nothing about, a world that has trapped Hector but all is not as it appears to be, and Hector pushes Rhi to warn the Kings about the magical powers, powers that feel familiar yet not.

The relationship between Emilia and Hector begins as a betrayal in which Emilia if the impetus to bring Hector to Highvale but Emilia suspects her part in the lure is more of a ruse, and deception plays a role in the death and destruction of the people in power. As Emilia begins to trust the man to whom she betrayed, Hector begins to focus on the possibility of his own happily ever after. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate and seductive.

There is a large ensemble cast of familiar, colorful and magical secondary and supporting characters many of whom we have met throughout the numerous interconnected Dragon Kings/ Dark Kings series. We are introduced to a young orphan Teo, as well as several members of the Highvale Council, and Emila’s best friend Agathi. The requisite evil has many faces.

DRAGON FORGED is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, manipulation and magic, forgiveness and love. The premise is inviting and intriguing yet a familiar story line thesis; the characters are stubborn, vulnerable, animated and resilient; the romance is impassioned.

I had a lot of fun with this one! I read this in short spurts at work at first but it really sucked me and I binged the last half in like 2 days. The pacing was pretty perfect and the mystery was tense but still lighthearted for a fun romp in a romantic fantasy series. The setting of Highvale was also gorgeous and the imagery was extremely strong and provocative. I could 100% visualize and FEEL this Mediterranean Greek island with beautiful white marble, deep blue sea and sky, bright green foliage and a soft breeze off the surrounding ocean. And the characters were all very lovable. Teo was adorable, a mischievous young boy, how can you not fall in love with him? Hector and Emilia, the two main characters and love interests, were also written super well. A lot of these historical/romantasy fall into the really easy trap of insta-love, which some of Grant's earlier work kind of did too, but this "forbidden love" tug between the two was actually very welcoming, making the reward of them falling in love that much more, well, rewarding!

My biggest criticisms with this book were two-fold. One was that this is book 10 in a spin-off series of another 10 book series, so there is a LOT of lore and characters that you're just kind of thrown into. Grant actually does a fairly commendable job of ensuring first time readers aren't too overwhelmed with all the characters/settings/history, and in fact she just made me interested enough to want to read more, so props to her for that! But, there was some exposition and explaining in the book that, although helpful for people who are just getting into the series, could probably be a frustrating slow-paced retread for series readers, slogging their way through lore their already plenty familiar with. So, unfortunately, this loves 'Dragon Forged' not quite strong enough (in my opinion) to stand on it's own as a stand-alone, while (possibly) be annoying to series readers. However, I don't have the latter perspective, that's just my possible take on what I was feeling.

My second big one was the mystery/plot of this book. While it was very intriguing, leaving just enough twists and turns and questions to keep you hanging without being outright frustrating, some of it felt slightly... Convoluted? Rushed? A little silly? It was horribly immersion breaking by any means, nor did it severely knock my enjoyment of this book either, but it did leave me to say, "Really? That's what the the secret was? That's a bit disappointing." But again, it's not a mystery/thriller book first, it's a fantasy/romance, which Grant has definitely nailed down and has grown into incredibly since her first few novels in this universe.

Grant's 'Dragon Forged' is a ton of fun, and made me want to read more in this universe. Written extremely well with a lighthearted but confident voice, along with lovable characters and beautiful settings, I highly recommend this installment, series, and writer to anyone who loves romantic fantasy/historical romance!

Thank you again to NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Phenomenal Story That Wouldn’t Let Me Sleep!

There aren’t many books that don’t let me sleep because I can’t stop thinking about them but this was one of those books. I read until I couldn’t keep my eyes open and had to stop, only to not be able to shut it out of my mind to sleep. I loved the story of Hector and Emelia. Hector is the dragon king of the sea green dragons and while exploring an area in Iron Hall, he sees a light and when he touches it, he is somewhere else and a woman walks in. Emelia lives in Highvale, where he has been transported to, and has visions of blood, death, and the destruction of Zora because a dragon king comes. They both instantly feel a connection but she knows what happens if he stays, so she has him follow her and through some kind of portal sends him somewhere else. Hector comes back and even though she tells him of her vision, which he believes, it ends up being too late. He is cursed by the island’s magic and is now trapped there, unable to leave or even contact his other dragon clan members.
The leaders of Highvale are corrupt and rule for power and they want Hector to eliminate humans. There is another leader who has a different idea of what she wants Hector for and she tries to figure out a way to make that happen since things didn’t turn out as she planned.
Teo, an orphan boy that Hector took under his wing, help them by keeping them informed on what is happening while they try to figure out how to break the curse. If they don’t break it, he can be forced kill to protect the island and its people even if he doesn’t want to. Rhi and Lotti come to help the while keeping the other dragon kings informed but away from the island so they are not cursed and stuck there too, which Con is not happy about. Emelia and Hector’s feeling for each other grow stronger throughout the story with just the right amount of spiciness.
I don’t want to give away too much of the story but there are some surprises that show up on both sides, good and bad, that are shocking, especially if you have read the prior books in the series. The ending was magical, exciting, dramatic, and beautiful. I was so pulled into this story that I couldn’t wait to get back to it and it just constantly lived in my mind. It was phenomenal!

I want to start by stating that I haven't read the previous books of this series, however you can totally read this book as a standalone. Grant makes a great work at giving you all the context and previous lore you might need, so for me everything was very clear from the start even if I was new to the series. However, it's true that because of that I don't know much of previous characters so I can't talk a lot about them because they're new to me.

This was a rather fun read in general, I really like the concepts and lore that Grant created here, from the Dragon Kings and their history, to the Star Person, this world/universe seems very rich in that sense and that's something I really appreciate. Another great point were the characters. I loved how the main good characters all had their own clear personalities, yet they weren't perfect, they all had some flaws that were exploited in the book and they made mistakes too. Teo was definitely my favourite and I think he adds a lot to the story and is a great character because he's a kid or a young teenager, yet Grant shows kids/teenagers can be smart and deep and understand a lot about the world.

The plot is okay, I didn't find it very unique but it's well told and interesting, although some stuff related to the evil characters is very obvious. There's one thing however that I really disliked and that I find a very lazy way of making things happen, and that's the use of binding magic (basically when magic forces someone to do something or act a certain way), and the use of command magic by characters that are all powerful (basically someone powerful enough to force others to their will). The first wasn't that big of a problem for me, but the second really was. I won't say more not to spoil it but I wanted to mention it to warn other readers that might dislike those types of magic or find them triggering (as I do), because if I had known that I'd have maybe enjoyed the book more since I was prepared for it.

This is an ARC review, however this is my honest opinion.

Dragon Forged by Donna Grant
Dragon Kings #10

The complex and often complicated universe created by Donna Grant includes a wide variety of paranormal beings that have their own laws, customs, and beliefs. I have not read all of the books from the first to the most recent but find myself able to slip back into new books without trouble even if I have missed a few here and there.

The dragon kings series backstory was summed up and referred to in this book well enough for a new reader to follow. That said, having some background did help me when reading Hector and Emila’s story.

Hector, King of Sea Green Dragons, is lured into a portal, finds himself elsewhere and heads to Highvale curious to find out why he is there. He is immortal, has lived millennia, and in this story finds his fated mate – Emilia. Emilia is a seer, has been on her own since she was five, is a survivor, thinks of others, and learns a lot about herself and her purpose as she also falls in love with Hector. Teo is a twelve-year-old orphan that plays a big part in the story. He is wise beyond his years, protective, capable, trustworthy, and hopes he has found a safe haven with Hector and Emilia.

The story is an action-packed emotional, immersive tale that had me rooting for Hector and Emilia as they worked to make sense of Emilia’s terrifying vision, stay safe, and solve some puzzles while finding out who the enemy is and how to thwart them. Encountering some characters from previous books and having a few of them there to assist was a fun addition.

The plot was well written, pace was perfect, setting perfectly described, characters easy to see and relate to, and the story excellently crafted with a perfect ending that indicates that perhaps the next book will star the King of the Lavender Dragons.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

DRAGON FORGED is book ten in Donna Grant’s Dragon Kings series — because apparently we still haven’t run out of broody, immortal Scottish dragon men.

This one follows Hector (Sea Green Dragon King, professional cave explorer with questionable judgment) and Emilia (powerful seer, accidental traitor, future romantic stress case). You can read it as a standalone… but expect to feel like you were dropped into a magical family reunion without name tags. The lore is deep. Knee-deep. Possibly chest-deep.

Quick backstory: Dragons ruled Earth. Humans ruined it. Portal opened. Dragons relocated. Portal reopened. Surprise! Still enemies.
---
The Plot

Hector gets magically kidnapped into Highvale after deciding to explore somewhere he absolutely should not have explored (classic immortal male behavior). His powers are locked, he can’t leave, and he’s basically a very muscular magical hostage.

Emilia believes she helped bring him there for the good of her people… only to realize she may have been manipulated. Oops.

What follows is political drama, magical secrets, betrayal, and the slow realization that maybe your prisoner is also your soulmate.
---

The Romance

Enemies-to-lovers? Yes.
Betrayal tension? Yes.
Yearning? Some… but I wanted more. Let that dragon angst simmer just a wee bit longer.

The intimate scenes are limited but steamy enough to remind you they are, in fact, dragons.

---

The Vibes

This book leans heavily into political intrigue and mystery — which honestly worked. The twists kept me guessing (and wrong). The side characters? Fantastic. The world-building? Dense but rewarding once you catch up.

If you love:

✅️Scottish-accented dragon shifters

✅️Fated mates

✅️Ancient magic politics

✅️Big ensemble casts

✅️And lore that requires a map

You’ll enjoy this.

Was the romance my favorite part? Not quite.
Did I still get sucked into the drama of immortal dragon politics? Absolutely.

Netgalley ARC Review

Dragon Forged feels like a return to the original series and I LOVED IT!

This book had everything that made me originally fall in love with the series. Slow burn romance, tension, angst, adventure, high stakes and heart.

Hector is the King of Sea Greens. While exploring Iron Hall he stumbles upon a portal that takes him to Highvale, the magical heart of Zora that had not yet been explored by the Dragon Kings. He finds himself in a tower where he meets a mysterious, beautiful woman who immediately yeets him through another portal back to the mainland. Hector isn’t one to give up though and he finds his own way back to Highvale to discover why he was brought there in the first place.

At Highvale he discovers the island is occupied by magical people who have escaped the persecution of Mainland Zora, building their own safe haven and they are OBSESSED with Dragon Kings and have statues that resemble the Kings though none have ever been to the island before.

Once on Highvale, Hector tracks down Emilia and demands answers for why she yeeted him and she reveals she is a seer who saw that if a Dragon King came to Highvale, death and destruction would follow. He agrees to leave but before he can, the leaders of Highvale trap him with intent to use him to destroy the people of Zora who persecuted them.

Hector is having none of it and when Emilia is targeted as a traitor he offers her his protection.

Hector and Emilia’s romance is a beautiful slow burn as they slowly build trust for one another and face down their enemies together. My favourite character however was Teo who was so sweet and spunky and desperate for love and family. He definitely stole my whole heart.

My only issue was that when the true villain was revealed they were barely punished and allowed to go free despite being responsible for several murders and another character was horrifically punished for their crime though that character was also awful they didn’t deserve their ending.

Also, Rhi, Lotti, Eurielle and Villette make an appearance and something is not right with Eurielle. Reminds me of Malen from Donna’s Kindred series but we will have to see what’s up with her.

I’m predicting the next book is Marcus who is being tormented by something or someone at Iron Hall. I’m looking forward to it.

Dragon Forged takes us back to the realm of Zora, with some familiar and much-loved characters, and introduces us to others. This is a new location on Zora (Highvale), a world where the dragons from our beloved Dragon Kings found sanctuary after leaving Earth. In Highvale, those with magic are protected and safe, unlike in other parts of Zora.
Hector, the king of the Sea Green Dragons, finds himself restless and explores a cave in Iron Hall, a place where many have found sanctuary since coming to Zora. It is still being explored and restored but Hector finds himself compelled to reach a hallway with turquoise light. There he gets transported to Highvale to fulfill an ancient prophecy (against his will). Emilia is a seer who has been haunted by a vision of Hector’s arrival bringing devastation to Highvale. Hector finds his magic bound and is unable to return to Iron Hall or summon his fellow kings.
We are taken on a journey of treachery, political intrigue, and danger. This story reads more as a fantasy novel with some romance towards the end, rather than a straight romance. We have some beloved characters showing up to try to assist Hector and Emelia (Rhi and Con) and are introduced to another young character that we fall in love with immediately. (Teo) As always, the worldbuilding is top-notch and the descriptions are so thorough that Dragon Forged could be read as a standalone, but is so much better knowing all the backstory of Donna Grant's Dark World. ⅘ Stars, only because I am a romance junkie and like when the romance storyline is in the forefront of the story.
I am looking forward to listening to the audio version, as Antony Ferguson does an amazing job of bringing Donna’s characters to life.

Donna Grant‘s imagination continues to keep readers entertained and on the edge of their seat wondering what’s gonna happen next. The latest edition of the Dragon King series, Dragon Forged is a thrilling page turner.

Dragon Forged is the story of Hector and Emelia. One day Hector is exploring iron hall. He sees the light, and as curiosity got to him he touches it and find himself transported to another place. Emelia is a seer whom has seen the death and destruction of Zora because of a dragon king. Wow, they do feel a connection from almost the moment they meet, Emelia no nothing can come to this because of her vision. Wanting to save Zora. Emelia betrays Hector by sending him somewhere else in hopes that it would save all of Zora. Hector is able to return to Highvale, but the magic of the place has taken route within him, and he is unable to leave or contact his fellow dragon brothers. Trying to escape from his trap prison, figuring out what’s going on and how to get help. Hector still feels a very close connection to this woman, but yet now is not the time for those type of feelings. Or is it?

Donna Grant once again gives readers an entertaining and thrilling story to get lost in. Emelia and Hector work beautifully together. I like their chemistry. They both learn quickly that there is something bigger and more mysterious at play than they realize. Hector becomes an amazing protector when Emelia is targeted as a traitor. This a story of secrets and deception. Lies that have been told for power. Yet we also get an intimate and sweet romance. Emelia and Hector are sensual and passionate together. As always, Donna Grant gives us a magical world, with a thrilling story with love at its core.

I struggled a little with this book in the beginning, purely I think because it’s the 10th book in a series. It can be read as a stand alone, but I feel like I would have had more context of the undercurrents of the characters if I’d read more of the Dragon Kings books prior. There is an explanation of the dragon kings, who they are, their mates etc in the beginning of the book though, which helps a lot.

Once I pushed through the struggle of my own making, I really enjoyed the story. My curiosity was piqued the whole time with the uncertainty that comes with Seers and visions and I loved how honorable our MMC and FMC are. My favourite character was probably Teo for the relationship he built with the MMC and FMC. I love me a good feel-good found family trope! The physical setting of the book made me feel like I was on a holiday getaway, ignoring the rain out my window and focusing instead on the white sand beach Dragon Forged took me to!

I found myself getting really involved with the plot and the deeper connection between the characters rather than the physical romance in the book. The magic within this book alone seemed simple, my kind of convenient magic - if someone summoned me up a buffet of fresh food and a hot bath on an idyllic beach I’d be so freakin happy! I’m hoping the magical connection with the island itself somehow gets explained more if we touch base with the characters again though, that was an intriguing concept for me.

I found Dragon Forged to be a really enjoyable read, that’s introduced me to a series I would most likely pick up again.

Thank you to Donna Grant, DL Grant LLC and NetGalley for the advance read in exchange for my honest review.

Dragon Forged takes us to a whole new location on Zora - Highvale, a hidden sanctuary for those with magic who seek safety from those who are trying to kill anyone with magic. It is accessible by going through the underground ruins of Iron Hall, and that's where Hector finds a corridor leading to the entrance to Highvale. Emilia diverts Hector away from Highvale, but his determination to figure out what is going on there brings him back to Highvale wherein he is trapped. Once there, Hector cannot access his magic nor can he return to Iron Hall. Thus begins his (and our) introduction to a new, evil being and also an old one who had previously helped the Dragon Kings but is now working against them. (We don't find out why.) It is now up to Emilia to help Hector and she does so by recruiting the assistance of Rhi and Lotti. Even with their help, Hector may end up lost to the Dragon Kings. Emilia is determined to fight for Hector's freedom. How they manage to save Hector and each other is the crux of this novel. Additionally, there is a residue left over from Highvale which is now adversely affecting three other Dragon Kings. We'll have to wait to learn what happens next in the upcoming novel in this complex Dragon Kings series, Dragon Sieged. Dragon Forged can be read as a standalone but is so much better knowing all the backstory of Donna Grant's Dark World.

Thank you to NetGalley and DL Grant, LLC for the opportunity to read a free ARC of Dragon Forged in exchange for an honest review.

Third Person Dual POV 3.75/5 stars
This was a fun read, blending together a lot of fun elements like slow-burn, shifters (dragons), magic etc.
Our MMC Hector is hot and protective without falling into being an over-the-top smothering love interest. Emilia seems shy and quiet at first but soon proves to have an impressive strength and courage many others lack. They first meet when Hector is magically summoned to a mysterious place where he meets Emilia. Their meeting, while short, provokes enough intrigue in Hector that he returns quickly. The story that then unfolds involve magic, mystery, a few enemies and one adorable little boy.
I made the mistake of thinking this could be read as a stand-alone, however I quickly discovered that was not the case. I found myself confused whenever the plot moved to discuss anything that had obviously occurred in previous books. While I don't think anything was particularly spoilery for the previous books, not reading them first definitely hindered my understanding of the world building and connections between a lot of the side characters to the MMC.
I also believed this was going to be a first person narrative based on the way the synopsis was written. Another incorrect assumption as this is written entirely in third person. While I usually struggle to engage with books in this style, I found that the plot in this one proved intriguing enough that I didn't have too much of a problem with the vantage point.
Thanks to the Author, Publisher and NetGalley for providing this free eArc. All opinions are my own.

Dragons, magic & romance ... brilliant

DRAGON FORGED
is another brilliant addition to Donna Grant's Dragon Kings series. This is a forced proximity, forbidden love, found family, slow burn romance which had angst, drama, betrayal, suspense and numerous twists and turns. Once again Donna had me instantly hooked with her mesmerizing words, vivid descriptions, and wonderful characters.

Donna introduces readers to the island of Highvale, a sanctuary for those who have magic. Hector, King of the Sea Greens, unexpectedly finds himself there after exploring the halls of Iron Hall. There he meets Emilia, a seer who has had visions of a war which will destroy Zora, one she believes is brought on by the dragons, a vision she has kept secret from her people. Emilia unsuccessfully tries to remove Hector from the island, but he returns and is trapped with many questions which she doesn't want to answer. New foes and an old enemy have plans and Hector and Emilia are thrown into a fight for survival. This is a story of non-stop action, one of friendship, love, and hope.

DRAGON FORGED had everything I love about Donna's stories, action, adventure, drama, suspense, and a slow burn romance. Old friends appear and new ones are made. There is also an intriguing build up to the next book, Dragon Sieged , and I can't wait for that one.

DRAGON FORGED is another spellbinding read from Donna Grant.

Looking back on this story I wonder if the title might mean something different to different people, but for people I see it as a description of Emilia as she developed and grew in this story—her power and faith in herself truly was forged by her love in her Dragon King. Hector has to go through his own growing pains, but mostly he finds himself being humbled and learning that he needs help from time to time in order to defeat his enemies, he cannot always stand alone. Emilia though has to come to terms with the fact that her past was all a lie, and everything she thought she knew about herself and her power was wrong, until finally she finds her footing and is able to save not only Hector and herself, but all the innocents that have been put in danger by a power-hungry despot. I loved the friendship that developed between Hector and Emilia and eventually blossomed into a passion and love that showed them both the power of love that would sustain them for millennia as mates, no matter who tried to break their bond. It was also interesting to see the way the magic in this story was introduced in a unique way, giving us a new idea of how life on Zora might move forward. I am looking forward to this next story in the series so that we can learn more about the Kings and life on Zora and see more mates bring new perspectives and adventures to the Kings. This vastly expansive world of magic, conspiracy, and devotion only continues to get better with each new story of danger and love.

This is the 10th book in the Dragon King series. In this installment we are introduced to a new location in Zora, Highvale. Hector, a Dragon King, was exploring the corridors in Iron Hall, and came across a rock. When he rolled the rock away, he discovered a blinking light. Before he could think, he touches the light and is transported to an island and staring at a beautiful, mysterious women, Emilia. Hector was confused and needed answers. Emilia, a seer, who had visions, that a Dragon King would come to Highvale and destroy all of Zora, was just as surprised to see the Dragon King. She told him, to follow her and Lied to Hector by telling him all of his questions would be answered, but instead of answering his questions, Emilia had to send Hector back, before his arrival to Highvale was discovered. Hector, who never turned away from a fight, was determined to get answers, especially, when he discovered the sculptures of Dragon Kings that resembles many of his brethren. Along the way, Hector befriends a young boy, Teo, who is a loveable character that becomes, an integral part of the storyline. Hector soon discovers that once, he uses his magic for protection, he is now locked on the island and becomes its protector. Hector knew he needed help, but had to be cautious, because he did not want another Dragon King to come to his aid and get locked on Highvale. This was another great read, with a new threat and many twists and turns. Although, this book may be read as a standalone, I suggest to start the beginning of the series. You will not be disappointed.

✨🔥 Elegantly addicted and sassily devoted 🔥✨

There’s something dangerously addictive about Donna Grant’s Dark Universe. I don’t know if it’s the dragons, the angst, the heartbreak, the smoldering stares—or maybe it’s the literary equivalent of a rich, velvety chocolate that you swear you’ll stop devouring after just one more page. (Spoiler: You won’t.)

In Dragon Forged, Grant once again lures us into Zora—a world as layered as your favorite fantasy cake, and just as tempting. This installment delivers everything we crave and then some: betrayal that bites, a slow-burn romance between Hector and Emilia that aches in all the right places, and a young scene-stealer named Teo, who swoops into the story like a surprise cinnamon roll and absolutely steals your heart.

What elevates this tale is Grant’s mastery of the long game. The Dragon Kings may be in the background this round, but their shadowy presence keeps the flame of the overarching saga alive—reminding us that, no matter how many spin-offs we devour, we’re still wrapped in one grand, cosmic tapestry of fire, fate, and fierce loyalty.

And just when you think you’ve caught your breath? A whisper of Marcus drifts through the final pages like a promise. Or a threat. Either way, color me intrigued, ma’am.

So bravo, Ms. Grant. Once again, you’ve left us both satisfied and starved for more. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with my calendar—and the countdown to the next Dragon King who’ll set it ablaze.

🖤🔥 Forever forged, never finished.

A place on Zora that revers Dragons
Dragon Forged is the newest installment in Donna Grant’s Dragon King universe.
Hector has been feeling restless. He is investigating some of the unoccupied areas of Iron Hall when he is transported to a new place on Zora. There he meets a mysterious woman who promises him answers but leads him through a door that transports him someplace else. Being a Dragon King, he can let those questions go unanswered.
Emilia has had a vision of death & destruction. She has lived among the statues of the dragons that everyone else revers & respects, but fears that having an actual Dragon King in Highvale will bring about the ruin of her home. She didn’t expect that when he came that she’d be drawn to him.
Hector & Emilia, along with the much older than his actual 11 years Teo, work together to uncover the truth behind the political machinations going on in Highvale. How can they work together without bringing about the war that the Kings have been trying to prevent?
There are new revelations and twists in this latest story about the Dragon Kings on Zora. We see some characters from early in the Dark Kings series whose particular talents may become very important to unraveling the mysteries of Iron Hall and maybe Zora itself.
I really enjoyed Hector and Emilia’s story (especially Teo!), and this novel is setting up some new stories that I can’t wait to see unfold.
