"There were two occasions I asked my Dad about his war experience. His reply was the same both times: 'I did what I had to do.' One day in the early 1980's, while talking with Dad at his desk, I was surprised to see a spiral bound notebook titled, "My War Years." I asked how many he had, since it said "Vol. 1" on it. He told me there was just the one. I asked if I could read and transcribe it for his posterity. He turned down my offer. In the late 1980's, while I was living in Whittier, California, I heard a knock and opened my front door to find Dad standing there holding a spiral bound notebook out towards me. He asked "Are you still interested in reading and transcribing this?' I was very surprised but excited and told him, 'Yes! I would love to!'"
Excellent transcription, editing and compilation of Royal Ruel Meservy’s war memories as well as some of his associates stories. I appreciate the effort and time that went into this
