I enjoyed this book overall, and the main characters were quite engaging. However, it was often confusing to keep track of who was who, with so many characters and such unusual names. Still, I appreciated that many of them, even the children, had magical abilities.

Kidnapping, Terror, Fae Folk, Seers, Family, Romance:
A tremendously hard book to review but I tried my best.
A horrifying beginning had me shuddering from the first page where most of the plot is disclosed.
This is a deeply traumatic emotional story along with a budding romance that captured my heart.
Lennox has a mission of finding the kidnapped children before they are lost forever.
He is well aware of the danger the young ones are in since he had the same nightmarish experience as a young child that still haunts him today. Could it possibly be the same person? Read on to find out.
He knows where to look and unknown to Lennox, Meg a truly dominate heroine has also been captured. Forced to take care of the children until the evil men come back to take them all away.
There is so much going on in this complex story I couldn't hardly keep my breath steady.
Lennox, Meg and the young children were destined to meet, and a wonderful heartfelt romance will blossom and take all of them on a very intriguing journey where there are seers, faeries, surprises that propels all of the characters to a wonderful happy ending; well not the kidnappers who did get their due thanks to Meg and her interesting weapon of choice.
I can't say enough about this thrilling story that not only reunites some of the characters from the first book but brings the reader to a joyous conclusion. This can be read as a stand-alone story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy for my honest thoughts and opinion.

This is the story of Lennox, Chieftain of Clan MacVey, and Meg Beaton. I totally fell in love with this book, Lennox and Meg, and the children!! I literally couldn't put it down. I started it late in the evening and made myself stop at 2 am, and finished today. Children from each of the 4 clans were abducted. All 4 clans banded together to find who took them. Meg ended up being taken also after fleeing her father and English baron from an unwanted betrothal. Lennox has nightmares of when he was kidnapped as a child, with memories only now coming back to him. Meg, such a brave, smart, strong lass, protector of children and expert axe thrower. Perfect for Lennox. This book was so well written with enthralling character development and the nonstop action moving the story along at a wonderful pace. The children were absolutely charming and thoroughly enjoyed their roles in this book. And, of course, a wonderful HEA ending. And the Epilogue wets the appetite for the third book. Cannot wait!

I can honestly say, I was obsessed with this book. I literally didn't want to stop reading, kept me on the edge, kept my attention through every chapter, every word and Keira Montclair outdid herself. The best Scottish romance I've read in awhile

I received an ARC of this book and this is truly my honest and sincere review of this great book.

I loved how this author incorporated the different characters points of view in this story. It's certainly not a cookie cutter - very unique with some paranormal thrown in to keep you on your toes. You never knew where that part of the story would take you.

This couple worked and I felt a connection to them from the start. Lovemaking within marriage (Scottish) and heat level barely 2 out of 5.

The children added to this story that had your heart tugging what they were experiencing. This story is part of a series, has many crossover characters, but is a standalone.

Story is very suspenseful, has violence, twists, a sweet HEA that was bumpy to reach, drama and some romance.

I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you extra tidbits to decide whether to purchase, which I do recommend.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, an epilogue a few weeks in the future. A fantastic set up for the next story. This author has the best covers for her stories.

I received an ARC and all opinions are my own and freely given. (ljb)

What a read & I loved revisiting some of my favorite characters from the past books. This was a gripping historical romance set in the Scottish Highlands. The story follows Lennox MacVey, a haunted chieftain seeking to right the wrongs of his traumatic past, and Meg Beaton, a young woman determined to escape a loveless home and forge her own path.

When their paths cross, they uncover a chilling conspiracy involving child abductions and must work together to protect their loved ones and the Isle of Mull. The novel is filled with danger, family secrets, and a romance that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. The author has a keen ability to blend humor, suspense, deep family connections and heartfelt romance, making her books a favorite among historical romance enthusiasts. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love where we are going in this world.

The Burden of the Scottish Chieftain is book two in Keira Montclair’s new series, The Clans of Mull. While Keira Montclair’s previous series were made up of interconnected standalones that could be read separately, I highly recommend reading this series in order. In the Clans of Mull each book has a complete storyline and no true cliffhangers, but there’s some great world building going on and you don’t want to miss the connections from book to book.
This story is a great romance with a strong, but innocent heroine who needs to discover a bit of the world on her own, before feeling truly confident in her place. Our hero is a bit single minded, but so sweet and protective. I loved the two together so much. But what truly brings the story together, and all of Mull, is the children. All of these wonderful, tiny but mighty personalities add so much to the story.
I cannot wait to see where we are going next.

Serious Chieftain and Independent Women

This is such a wonderful story, it is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone, trust me you will want to read whatever this author writes. This is filled with mystery, heartwarming family, cute children, fierce highlanders and strong women. Women a head of their time who won’t marry just who they are told. They have skills most of their kind don’t have in this time, and they are lucky enough to meet men who appreciate their worth. A run away bride finds children she must help, then finds a man and community that was looking for their children. She is looking for her sister and there is a woman wishing her son would find his love. I love the humor and banter in this book and the struggles and triumphant. All this takes place on a beautiful island in Scotland with many secrets to tell. Enjoy!!

Bringing people together for good.

Loved the characters in this book, both new ones and old familiar ones. When children are abducted from the Isle of Mull, the clans join together to find them and punish those responsible. For Lennox, Laird MacVey, this brings back bad memories for him and he takes a personal interest in finding and defeating those responsible. Meg, a village girl far away is fleeing an unwanted betrothal stumbles upon the children and helps them escape, only to develop a fever from her injury. That is when Lennox finds them and brings them all back to Duart castle. That is only the beginning of this tale that involves evil child abductors, a disgruntled baron, a new world for Meg, finding family, longing and understanding growing between Meg and Lennox. I loved their story.

The Burden of a Scottish Chieftain (Clans of Mull book 2) Keira Montclair

The author took us on a trip around the Isle of Mull, Oban, Vuva and Adline. Evil men had kidnapped four children to take to another very evil man. Everyone was looking for the children, to no avail. Meg was running away from the slimy baron, her father sold her to, finding four small children hiding in a small shed that was gross. They escaped to a cave and finally able to sleep. Lennox found them after Meg had killed one of the evil men with her ax right between the forehead. They returned the children to their families. looking for the last bad man and to escape the evil baron. Danger, intrigue and wrong doers generates this story plus looking for he sister that was sold years ago.

Simply wonderful

I haven’t had time lately to do many reviews, but I could not resist at least one review for this series. If there’s any character that I love almost as much as Alex Grant from these Keira Montclair, Grant family books, it would be Logan Ramsay. I’m not to give away a big surprise, but Logan Ramsey is such an endearing character... My only complaint about this wonderful addition to the multitude of fantastic books Ms. Keira has written involving the Grants and their family/allies is — why did no one return to retrieve Meg’s sweet mare?! Read the books, you will not be disappointed.

Amazing as always!

I loved, loved this story! I so enjoyed how many characters from previous books were brought back! Lennox and Meg’s story was so sweet! This is one of my new favorites. When Keira brings back characters from previous stories, it makes me want to go back and start all over from Alex’s story …which I did this summer with the first few! Keira writes these stories in a way what brings family to the forefront and makes you want to keep reading to see what happens with the next generation! Thank you Keira!

The strength of a families love

A story full of trials and overwhelming strength. In a culture where women rarely were respected for their minds and inner strength these Scottish clans showed continued value of women, equal to most men. Full of adventure and excitement. Yes, the good wins over evil. Hard to put down this book until you read the last page, but then you just look for more.

I love the extra bit of faery magic that comes into play in this story. It adds a bit of whimsy. The journey of both Meg, who's fleeing her betrothed, and Lennox, who is arranging search efforts for several kidnapped children, is well thought out. I'm not as much of a fan of the romantic side of the story. These two came together and fell in love, but I didn't really feel it building along the way.

This is the second book in the series and I love everything about it. The new character's plus the characters from the last book are just such great characters. It’s a very good storyline. It pulls you into the book and doesn’t let you go to the end. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series plus go back and read the past books of the married older characters.
I highly recommend these books.

Kidnapping Memories

Lennox relived the horror of his childhood kidnapping. Meg had a hard life and drawn into protecting the bairns from their kidnappers. Mysterious happenings by fae, fairies, seers or unknown forces. I loved how the Clans were so close and chose to protect the people they loved. A forever love made the ending sweet.

Great story!

Lennon was not going to marry. On his way to look for a guy taking children to sell, he found the children and Meg. He brought her to a healer because she had a bad infection. He really liked her. Meg was looking for her sister Tamsin who had been gone two years. So much adventure in this story…please read.

Great Book!

This was a wonderful story. Full of mystery, the unexplainable and love. Loved all the Clans coming together, 1st, 2nd and the very young 3rd generation, including meeting new clans. Love the strong women and the men who stand by them. Can't wait to read the next book!

Mixed Opinion

I really liked this book in places and the lead characters. But in others it felt like just reading words on a page and was hard work. I also struggled with all of the characters and theirs names and who was linked to who. So overall it was very average and a bit disappointing.

not any easy read

But still an enjoyable book. I was confused with all the different characters but finally was able to follow the story and understand who was who and what they accomplished. I liked the faerie ideas and accepted the way they influenced the story and the characters.

Great next chapter

Continues the characters from the 1st book although now including more of a 3rd clan on Mull. Good plot and great character development. Ends with a lead in to next book which I plan to read next. Fun series.
