Okay.
**SPOILERS**
Maya is a stripper who is at work when the zombie apocalypse breaks out. She manages to brain a zombie with a stiletto and escape. It doesn’t hurt that Maya has multiple personalities (yup, for real) and her alter is Vivian, a bad ass beyotch who is very skilled at fighting and braining zombies. Maya is determined to get to her grandmothers retirement home in the country, but first she stops at Walmart for food and supplies.
Ramirez, Ramon, and Smith are part of a special ops team that have just managed to get some top secret info and are ready for a vacation when the apocalypse breaks out. They decide to head to Walmart for food and supplies and lo and behold, there is a “goddess” shucking cereal at zombies and cursing up a storm. They retrieve some weapons and then go to “rescue” her…although she does save them by sticking the end of a mop through one of the zombies mouths.
The four of them decide to travel together, the guys telling Maya that they’ll help her get to her grandmothers retirement community.
Along the way they encounter difficult life threatening situations, and plenty of passion. Each of the guys express interest in Maya, and Maya’s alter, Vivian, is a total hoe (lol) she really wants to do the naked horizontal with the hot military men. The book ends with Maya and her guys teaching her grandmothers retirement community, finding it “manned” by military and secure, and deciding to stay.
**THOUGHTS/OPINIONS**
There were definitely some good things about this story. I thought Maya/Vivian was a terrific character! I really enjoyed how feisty, cool, funny and self-deprecating she was. She definitely didn’t have that many survival skills as Maya, but as Vivian she kicked ass. The guys were okay as well. I only gave this 3 stars however because there were several issues for me with this book. 1. There wasn’t nearly enough background about Maya’s guys. We had no idea what branch of military they were from, what the sensitive nature of materials they took was, or what their real directive was. 2. The guys just kinda accepted Maya’s alternate personality a little too easily in my opinion. 3. Uhmmm hello one of her men gets bitten, but isn’t turned into a zombie and there is ZERO explanation of that fact. He has new powers, but nothing is explained. We have no idea why this is happening. Clearly he isn’t 100% immune because he gets “hungry” and he’s stronger, and zombies don’t go after him…but WHY?!!!! 4. The group just happens to make it to Maya’s grandmother’s place and it just so happens to be safe, and fortified…what?! That is waaaay too convenient. So yes, the book had some humorous moments, some steamy scenes, and a good dose of zombie fun…but it definitely with some tweaking, could’ve been better.
