She came to build a future for her daughter. She never expected a fierce warrior to fight for them both.

Single mother Ashley Jackson knows taking a construction contract on a distant planet is risky, but the generous pay could finally give her teenage daughter the future she deserves. What she doesn't expect is to find herself surrounded by genetically-modified warrior outcasts or to clash with the fiercely protective warrior assigned to their security. She tells herself she shouldn't find Sy attractive - he's not even human - but she can't seem to look away when he's near. His instinct to shield them from every threat infuriates her, even as his gentle care of her daughter makes her heart melt.

But when enemies target their new home, Ashley must decide if she can trust someone else to help protect what matters most...

His blood made him deadly. Their love makes him fierce.

Being feral marks Sy as dangerous even among his own outcast people. Guarding the human construction crews should be simple, until he meets their leader and her young daughter. Ashley's fierce independence and striking beauty catch him off guard - her golden hair and determined spirit make it hard to focus on his duties when she's nearby. Their trust in him despite his deadly nature awakens protective instincts he never knew he possessed. When they prove they can hold their own against any warrior, he realizes his heart might be the next thing they conquer. But when their enemies threaten from above...

If they can't overcome their differences and learn to trust each other, they'll lose not just their chance at love - but any future together at all.

The forming of bonds

There are so many layers to this story, highlighting exactly why this author is one of my absolute favorites. The main couple are the featured characters of the story, with a slow build up to their coming together as mates increasing the intensity of the story line with each turn of the page. But like all great stories, not without some twists and turns along the way adding a little emotional angst at just the right moments to keep me glued to my ereader until the very end. The author kept us in suspense while simultaneously leaving us Easter eggs for the next book, and even a possible lead in to another grouping in the future. No matter what, this book has set the series up for many amazing revelations to come in future books and I can’t wait to read all about them.

Holy Plot Batman

I am loving the Izaea series so much more than the normal Lathar series. They're perfectly unhinged.

I liked the book, it was great. Sy is just the right combination of nearly unhinged/about to lose control that I like. Ashley has a backbone and called him out, which I appreciate.

All that being said....THE PLOT!

So much information was revealed about the Izaean symbiotes, the legion as they're called. I honestly don't think I fully understand the implications of all of it.

Also, I love the direction the Kal, Tor and Lila are going. I think it's fitting for them to be a throuple. That being said, I need them to age up. They need to be adults before anyone acts on anything, so I don't expect that to happen anytime soon seeing as they're 15/16. I don't care if they're all legion and have this massive intelligence in them. They need to be physically and emotionally adults.

A protective but grumpy alien warrior, a constructions manager and her daughter and some very weird spiders! This is another great entry into the Greater Lathar Universe.

It just goes to show that some things are universal, sadly the bad things as well as the good. This book is chock full of "ists" who all think they are this perfect example of their species, when really they're all a huge glob of poop! From the Latharian purists, the xenophobic humans, and of course the s*xist misogynists that you just can't escape in any species!

There are some big secrets to be uncovered on Parac'Norr and I found myself cheering on the ragtag bunch of rebels who decided to "stick it to the man (and the Purists). Ashley and Lila are ready for a new start and I really enjoyed the way they just got on with living on their new world, no drama, no tantrums about conditions, they just got on with things and made friends. I did want to bash poor Sy on the noggin occasionally with his "Me Warrior, you helpless female" routine but thankfully he is a smart man and soon learned that human females are a different level of brave and resourceful.

I'm all kinds of intrigued with Lila, Kal and Tor. I'm on the fence on whether this is a future MFM or just a new bunch of siblings but I'm here for it either way!

It was great to find out more about the Izaeans, Ferals and the planet in general. Beware - there is a bit of a cliffie but the romance for Sy and Ashley is concluded in this story, the next story is set up nicely and I'm intrigued about how that bouquet toss is going to go over with a certain medic!

yet another great Izean story!

I like this branch of the “universe”. Gritty and real but with all the strong characters and hear. Great book

I hated the author's writing style, it was like paint by numbers, he did this, she did that, his hand did this, her fingers did that. Scenes are dragged out to a painful extent, it's awful, literally one scene that should only be a page is dragged out for an entire chapter, even dragged out over two chapters. And all of it just written with repetition.

For example, in the one scene of the kids in the cave, it says 15 times about the "Clicking" sound of the spiders. In the one short scene! It even gets worse because in that same short scene it says several other things on repeat, including that her clothes are soaked 10 times! And that doesn't even include the several other times it says it barely reword, instead of clothes, it says "fabric", wet fabric, soaked fabric. Or "material".

Along with other things like "His body heat", and "the air/water smelling/tasting mineral/moss laden". It's painfully boring, I can't believe I paid also £4 for this rubbish. It's bad enough to repeat the same thing 15 times in a book, it's really terrible to repeat it 15 times in one scene, then really awful to repeat other things a dozen times in the same one scene.

I think this is the worse case of repetition and dragging things out for chapters that I've ever read in a book. I can't believe no one has mentioned it before in other reviews. It's that awful! There's far better books on KU for free. There isn't even a story, the majority of the book, the first 50%, is unnecessarily overly detailed descriptions of the construction process, by human engineers paid to go to another planet.

That's followed by the 20% the kids are in the cave, with their "wet/sodden clothes" 10 times and there's spiders "clicking" 15 times. Then that's followed by 15 pages the author describes them kissing. Just kissing dragged out over 15 pages! It's mind numbing. I had to stop reading it's that bad.

I just couldn't slog through this anymore. Painful reading, is the only way to describe this. I haven't read book one, I think this is the first book I've read by this author, even though I do try to give authors a good chance by trying two or three of their books, I just can't with this author, their writing is that painfully dragged out and repetitive. Would give less than 1 star if I could.

I really enjoyed this one. It pulled me in from beginning to end and I was super excited to get back to this series. This is the second book and it can be read as a standalone but the first book does give us good insight about the symbiont that the ferals have (and are just getting more info on) and the changes happening with the Izaeans. They are pulling in a human crew to help them build new facilities after the attack they just suffered from with the Legion and all the new information coming out regarding some of the ferals. I loved getting to know Sy better and watching him adjust to his new way of being, as he just became a feral in the last book and is able to control it and is aware of/communicate with the symbiont. He is drawn to Ashely when she arrives on planet with her daughter and he takes an interest though tries to keep a distance as well and not make a move. Sy has to find that ground of seeing Ashley as a capable person and independent woman while also wanting to help and protect her. I enjoyed watching them get to know each other and dealing with what kept being thrown at them. They definitely had hurdles thrown at them with things popping up on the site and with personnel issues as well as having to look for the teenagers in underground caves after an earthquake. This story definitely weaves some mystery in with questions about the Legion, the symbionts and being Izaean. I thought this story was really well done and it had me engaged from beginning to end. I loved getting to see things from Ashley's daughter's point of view as well and watching her build the friendship/relationship with Lila, Kal, and Tor and am super intrigued and excited for what might possibly be coming for and between the 3 of them in the rest of the series! I thoroughly enjoyed this one and can't wait for the next one to see what is coming next.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

As a feral, Sy knows the rage the flows within. But he can control it. The feral are given the job of security for the humans and helping to build what is needed. He and the others need to make sure the humans are protected. The construction site isn’t pretty but Ashley is there to make things work. She and her daughter Lila are starting over on this world. Losing her husband had made things tough but they are working through it. When she catches the eye of one of the feral, she doesn’t know what to think. At first these two butt heads. He couldn’t understand why she was allowed to come since she was, “a fertile female.” Well, those are fighting words to any woman. She is much more than that. I love that the women are not trembling in fear. Ashley is in charge of the operation and she is making sure everything is up to par. Of course she has one person that is a sniveling wimp. She and her daughter have found a new life and even friends for Lila. But the story isn’t just about Ashley, Lila also has a story to tell and that one is very interesting. Tor and Kal we met before in Banic’s story. The boys are older and stronger. We learn more about the legion and what importance Tor has. Sy and Ashley are a great team. He does screw up and something happens that is heartbreaking. But he makes it right. We get a lot more story about the ferals and how their symbiote guides them. Rather fascinating. Looking forward to finding out what happened to Michelle.

Humans, Aliens, Love & War

Mina Carter has given us non-stop action while humans & Izaeans attempt to cooperate on a major construction project.

Bigotry & hatred of people unlike you is a prominent theme: all the possible permutations of humans, Izaeans, ferals, and Purist Lathars despise each other. But there is good news, too: there are all the possible permutations of humans, Izaeans, and ferals who protect, defend and even love each other. Every individual has the choice to learn to appreciate “others” or not. This culminates in an attack on the planet by “Purist” Lathars who hate Izaeans & consider humans collateral damage.

Despite all these distractions, human Ashley and feral Sy get to know and love each other. They even squeeze in some sexy times. And there is a secondary story involving Ashley’s teenage daughter Lila who befriends the teenagers Izaean Kal and feral Tor.

We also get some insight into what can make Izaeans feral. It’s a wild story with lots of surprises and still more unanswered questions.

I loved this story but Beware the evil cliff hanger! Mina Carter, you are a wicked woman! I can hear your witchy laugh from across the pond!

I received a free copy of this book via the wicked author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

In a hostile world where everything had the seal of danger, Lila's skills and leadership had to be firm, even more so with her daughter at her side. Sy and the other ferals were considered the greatest danger on the planet, so keeping their Blood Rage under control was of utmost importance, but his attraction to the human woman seemed to put his decision at risk. All the time Sy felt like he was walking on broken glass. Both Sy and Lila found themselves struggling with their feelings and emotions and the image they needed to maintain in front of others. Exciting how the mystery of the Rage and its true role is slowly revealed. I was struck by the intense adventure and the role that the teenagers played in the plot with twists that had me thinking and imagining possible outcomes. Lots of action, mystery and suspense that kept me interested the whole time. Way to catch my attention! Eager for the next story.

A great sci-fi romance story. Part of a series but I’ve read them out of order and found no issues with keeping up. Ashley and Sy are the two main characters of this one and they definitely don’t get along from the start. His opinions will get in his way of seeing what Ashley and all the humans are capable of. Humans may be smaller than his species but we are full of surprises. I love how we read the book from several points of view that includes some of the side characters. I have a feeling some of them just may be getting their own stories in the future. The book has danger from start to finish. The few twists only add to it. The romance builds and I love how it changes. Does have some heat too.

Have to admit the Mina Carter had in my opinion hit a bit of a rut with her sci-fi Lathar series. Not really surprising there are what more that 20 books with at least 5 spinoffs before the publication of this book and it’s predecessor “Banic.” Together they begin yet another spinoff of big hunky alien warriors.

But the Izaea series is doing good so far. Some plot a story arch set to unravel across several book. Im willing to give this one a 3.5 stars. Falls short of 4 stars due to the MC formula. Having been through a few of her previous works it’s just a tad too predictable. Love scene at 70% mark, tragedy trying to pull the couple apart at 80%, epilogue that directly points to who is featured in the next book.

Two books into the "Alien Berserkers of Izaea" and Ms. Carter has another winner. Sy and human Ashley on Parac'Norr; Ashley as the chief engineer and feral leader Sy as the head of the planet's protectors. So many elements are in this book that it could boggle a reader's mind: ferals, Latharian Purist invaders, creepy spiders aka/Aragog , a human saboteur, ancient legion myths come to life, endearing mother-daughter (Lila) relations, Lila's protective guards Kal and Tor (a promising future relationship), human council greed; so many elements involved into making this book an entertaining read. I enjoyed this read and I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review for the ARC I was given.

As usual Mina's writing is top notch again. This amazing story is filled with so much umph and swoon moments I couldn't put it down. I didn't want to put it down.

All it took was a voice over the intercom and Asley was smitten. Sight unseen. Sy is..... well. Everything. Protector, strong, vigilant and dangerous. Together they are an unstoppable team fighting against enemies at every turn.

This world is without a shadow of a doubt scary. Mina's story writing and world building bring these amazing characters to life. The fight to prevail compounds the deepest emotion for survival.

Another amazing read with action, adventure, sabotage and deception. But most of all a HEA 🔥🔥🔥

Ashley is taking a chance far away from home. She has brought her daughter with her never expecting to find more than her research showed. Sy is the latest in Mina Carter's Alien Berserkers of Izaea series. I love getting to know Sy better. He isn't quite sure what to expect when he meets not only Ashley but her daughter. The Rage inside him only wants to protect her but Sy wants more than that...he wants her. Can he protect her from the danger that surrounds them? I loved finding out as Ashley learns to trust both Sy and his symbiote. I thoroughly enjoyed this addition to this series and cannot wait to see where Ms. Carter will take us next

Sy struggles with the Legion within him. Trying to stay in control and honorable. Ashley is trying to support her daughter and herself by coming to a dangerous and hostile alien planet to get a job done, and she is determined to succeed at both.
Forces from within the human workers and alien purists off world work again them both. They still find each other and the strength that bonds them.
Exciting, action packed adventure within an ever evolving world that houses the Ferals and Legions.
Well worth my time and $$

Really Would Like To Give 5 Stars +++++

It's ALWAYS a good time when one of Mina Carter's Lathar, Izaean, or Warborne books arrive. Her latest story "Sy" is another exciting addition to the Lathar world line-up. Whether human or Lathar, the complex characters are vividly described evoking feelings of admiration ( Sy, Ashley, Lila, Tor, Kal) .or disgust (Thompson, Kraav, company directors). The romance is panty melting and the action and suspense...well, brings to mind several action heroes movies. Whew, what a rush! Highly recommend! Enjoy!

A fast paced Lathar adventure romance
Wow! Ashley and Sy meet when Ashley arrives on his planet to help with construction of a new landing pad. Once she arrives he starts being protective about she and her daughter as this keep happening. While they figure out what is happening personally there are a number of events that happen that threaten the build and then the planet. The twists are incredible and the characters are so well written that I feel like I am right there with them! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

I LOVED Banic, so I was eagerly anticipating Sy’s story. Unfortunately, it’s not as great as Banic’s. I think what made Banic so great to me was the internal dialogue between him and his symbiont. How they both viewed things and this story was definitely missing that. If I didn’t know better I would have thought Sy didn’t have one for all that he and his symbiont communicated, which was very, very rarely.

This felt less like Sy and Ashley’s romance and more like a setup for the series overall plot and the (possible?) Lila/Kal/Tor relationship.

I love the series and can't wait for the next book. Sy is a berserker of Izaea and was a guard for the fortress until it was attacked. He became feral during the attack. He is now responsible for the humans coming to rebuild/build on Parcic'Norr. Ashley is the project manager and brought her teenage daughter with her Lila with her. Things start to go wrong in the beginning and the hits keep coming and they have a mole in the group that is giving corporate information they shouldn't have. What is going on? I read an arc of this book and this is my review.

This was an awesome follow-up to book one and the author did a fab job keeping me glued to my reader and madly flipping pages ;D Ashley and Sy meet and he really starts being protective of her and her daughter, Lila. He may have started out thinking she was all helpless female, but he soon enough figured out that she was definitely brave and resourceful, just in a different way than him. With non-stop action, twists, danger, interesting side characters and hot romance, this was a page turner, for me. I'm very much looking forward to the next book :D

I’m already invested in this series and this newest release just made me fall in love more with the characters and series. Book two of the Alien Berserkers of Izaea series brings Sy and Ashley and her daughter Lila story to life. He’s a fierce warrior and she’s a single mom building a new life for her daughter and herself and when they connect it was sweet and oh so steamy. I enjoyed watching their romance come alive with suspense, danger and situations that will test their forever. I can’t wait for more of this syfi romance series that didn’t disappoint.

Ok book

This book was less of a romance spoken more of a plot/world building book. It felt like the author spent more time giving us the background of the Legion that’s within the thorough body. Once I realize that, the book became more enjoyable as I treated more as knowledge gathering for future books in this series.
The origin of the Legion and the role they play in this book was interesting. I also enjoyed reading about the teenagers Tor and Kal and their budding friendship with the human teenager Lila and the role they play within the larger arc of this series.

Love it but…

I loved the book as it provided more information about the ‘Rage’ the Izean’s carry. But I find the books too short. There is so much story that is left untold and I’m sure it is done purposefully to entice us to purchase the next book but I want more. Like, how Ms. Carter let the Garrison General get away with his secrets and she sneakily excluded Ashley’s daughter in the end. I’m sure there is a romance brewing between the new queen and her protectors. Sigh, as stated, a good read but it certainly makes you want more.

I really enjoyed this book.
This book picks up with the aftermath of book 1, but I feel like some, not all some previous characters could have been included to help tie in to this story.
However this story flowed really well.
I'm intrigued to learn more about the symbionts, the ferals, and this secret lab and who's running experiments in it.
I love Sy, Kal, and Tor.
And I want to see how this change is going to work for Lila.
I need more!!

If you want edge of your seat nonstop action then this book is a must purchase! Mina Carter always delivers her best but I especially loved this read. Her characters were charming and fierce. Ashley was cunning and strong…a great mother to not only her daughter but Kal and Tor. ( Mina, please tell me Kal and Tor will get their own book!) This book was filled with lots of heat and a very creative plot line. I can’t say enough about this series. Download and enjoy!❤️❤️❤️❤️

Yet another Winner!

One of my favorite romance tropes is single parents finding each other. This can be tricky to pull off in an alien romance, but Mina Carter does it flawlessly! You are rooting for a small town type romance right from the start, and she pays off in spades.
The way she also weaves little clues about potential future adventures into her books, without a bunch of extra exposition is exciting for the (hopeful) next installment! I cannot wait!!

This is a great story for Ashley and her daughter Lila. And we get more information on the Izeans, yay! Ashley is such a great character, independent adventurous and making up for lost time with her daughter plus being a project leader. Sy and the Izeans don’t expect anything in life but to be used to fight for the Lathar. Action comes in the form of natural disaster and baddies but doesn’t overshadow the romance.

I enjoyed this smooth-flowing, fast-paced story. I haven't read the first book in this series but that in no way stopped me from enjoying Ashley and Sy's story, as Ms Carter's writing style is such that you soon pick up all you need to know.
Sy and Ashley are both well-drawn and interesting characters, and it was easy to become engaged in their story. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
