Are you looking for some monster *ahem* romance, but you’d actually like to see romance? Would you like compelling worldbuilding, delightfully realized and reimagined mythos, and plot with your por—monster fun times? Look no further, Tales of Voracious: Ragnarok is the book for you!

Without spoilers, this book follows Yara, a Guardian—a sort of monster hunter who isn’t interested in killing monsters if she doesn’t have to—on her journey after ending up in Helheim. I am well versed in Norse mythos, and I found author Kate Bullock’s take on the Nine Realms and Ragnarok, a grand ride. The world feels dirty, lived in, gorgeous, and I found myself cheering on the characters.

This is a spicy book. Specifically, spicy with monsters. There are many offerings but what I appreciated the most was every encounter felt meaningful. Sure, the erotic elements are deliberate and sizzling, but they also work double duty to show us something about characters, plot, setting, or conflict. I grew attached to these characters, ‘human’ or otherwise. Again, without spoiling, I appreciated Yara’s take on monster hunting. The different lens placed over Norse mythos was also refreshing. It was something I didn’t know I wanted to see until I saw it.

So, if a romp with worldtrees or partially dead goddesses is a vibe you’d like to try, I can’t recommend this book enough.
