Poppy Dean lives and breathes romance - in her job at least. As a matchmaker at an elite London agency, she spends her days finding the perfect Mr Right for pretty much everybody but herself.
When Tristan Fellows walks into the agency, Poppy knows she’s in for a challenge. A typical bachelor, Tristan has no intention of falling in love, but in order to receive his 30-million-pound inheritance, he must find himself a wife before his 35th birthday.
This may be Poppy’s hardest case yet, but even the most arrogant of men can sometimes warm a woman’s heart. And who knows, maybe it’s finally time for Poppy to find her happy ever after too?
From the sunny skies of Greece, to the trendy streets of London, to the romantic hills of Scotland, Match Me If You Can is a laugh out loud enemies-to-lovers romance, guaranteed to make you believe in love again!
I’m a writer, traveller and hopeful romantic with a lengthy bucket list, and many of my travel adventures have found homes in my novels. I’m also an avid reader, a film buff, a wine lover and a coffee snob.
I am currently on a one-year sabbatical, living and writing across the world, with my partner, Ben, who I met while travelling in Greece. Our real-life love story inspired my debut novel One Summer in Santorini, the first in the five-book Holiday Romance series with One More Chapter, an imprint of HarperCollins.
Also with One More Chapter, is the Christmas Romance series, celebrating my favourite time of the year, and a stand-alone romcom, The Dating Game, set in the world of reality TV.
I am now writing for Boldwood Books, including the 5-book Ever After Agency romcom series. Next up are 5 more standalone romcoms for Boldwood.
I am represented by Lina Langlee of The North Literary Agency.
This started out as a fun read, but I liked it less and less the more I read it. By the time I hit the last ten percent, I couldn't wait for it to be over.
The characters were completely devoid of personality, to the point there was nothing compelling about any of them. This is a huge issue in any book, but particularly in a romance, because I couldn't get invested in their relationship at all.
A final note: as this is an ARC, I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt and assuming that the awful google-translate Italian will be fixed in the final version. If it wasn't an ARC, I would be rating it one star for Vittoria alone: if an author wants to include a character whose first language differs from the language of the text, they can either refrain from sprinkling their native language into their dialogue or they must ensure that it is used in a grammatically correct manner.

Thanks to NetGalley, Boldwood Books, and Sandy Barker for allowing me access to this book. All opinions are my own.
As romcons go, this was a gentle and good one. Set in the Happy Ever After Agency (HEA), it's a grumpy/sunshine, Enemies to lovers troupe. Poppy, who's Australian (and this point is battered to death), works at the Agency, and Tristan is her client who needs to get married to inherit a large amount of money. Poppy arranges matches for him, one where she accompanies him to Greece, another she spies in him on a date, and the third she accompanies him to Scotland. Their friends are aware of their feelings towards each other before they do. It's lighthearted, cute, funny, where you can escape, and overall great read. It's the second book of hers I've read in the HEA series, but this is the debut of the authors, and I preferred it to the second read.
Definitely deserving of the prize for Best Contemporary Romance in the New England Readers Choice awards. Tristan's and Poppy's story is both laugh out loud funny and heartwarming. With a plot worthy of a Regency, his grandfather's will requires that Tristan be married by his 35th birthday to inherit a fortune. With less than 2 months to comply with the terms, Tristan engages Poppy as his matchmaker. As the pair team up to find him a marriage of convenience, they begin to connect first as friends and begin to question if they can be something more. Closed door romance.
2.75 ⭐️ I was enjoying it in the beginning but then the actual romance part didn’t sell me, I didn’t feel the characters emotions towards each other to be authentic. Their conversations/banter needed more
I was drawn in by the interesting premise of "Match Me If You Can." However, I found the plot and its execution to be somewhat flat, and the expected chemistry between characters didn't quite hit the mark for me.
That said, there were moments in the book that did make me smile, and Barker's writing is easy to follow. It's an overall okay read and I'd recommend it to those looking for something casual and lighthearted to read. 3 stars from me.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with an ARC through NetGalley. As always, my opinions are entirely my own.
Read and reviewed for Sandy Baker, Boldwood Books, Book & Tonic, NetGalley and Rachel's Random Resources Tours.
Publication date 28th September 2023.
This is the first book I have read by this author. It is also the first book in the 'Ever After Agency' series.
This novel consists of 40 chapters. The chapters are short in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book has fantastic descriptions that set you straight in the scenes. The cover, title and synopsis suit the storyline perfectly.
'Match Me If You Can' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Sandy discusses/includes a supporting character that has fertility issues with unsuccessful IVF attempts.
Where the heck have you been hiding all my life Sandy!!! Love, LOVE, LOVED this absolutely gorgeous page turner!! An absolute must read!!!
OMG!!! I absolutely LOVED this gorgeous page turner and I cannot WAIT for the next book in this series to come out along with getting stuck in to all of Sandy's previous books!! They are just guaranteed to be stunning!! I absolutely adored the unique storyline which is hard to come by when it comes to romance books as there are so many out there but Sandy has created an absolutely gorgeous storyline which I cannot wait to continue in the next book in this series!!!! Poppy works for the Happily Ever After agency and has to find her client Tristan a woman to marry before his 35th birthday or Tristan will lose millions of pounds from his inheritance. Poppy manages to match him up to another client who has to marry and stay married for 5 years or she will get cut off from her father's wealth. However, things are definitely not smooth sailing and there is drama, unwanted bedtime visits and it leaves you wondering if Tristan will ever find his Happily Ever After!!! Poppy and Tristan head off to Greece and Edinburgh on their matchmaking travels and OMG Sandy's stunning evocative writing skills really does bring Greece, Edinburgh , London and the characters to life. I absolutely adored being swept off on holiday and was so absorbed that on the rare moments I looked up it took me a while to realise I was in Wales at home and not in Greece on a boat or outside Edinburgh Castle!!! The storyline is stunning and is ram packed with friendship, romance, holidaying, fun, sarcasm and is an absolutely stunning escapism romantic read!!! This is one of those books that are very easy to read and perfect for any reading situations whether you are laying on a beach or curled up in front of a fire. It is an absolutely ideal read for anyone who is looking for a gorgeous and relaxing read that will have you hooked from beginning to end. I absolutely LOVED the realism of this storyline which made it so easy to picture everything that was going on which had been helped by Sandy's fantastic evocative writing skills. I cannot wait to get hooked into more of Sandy's books so I hope she is busy writing her next stunner in this series while I get stuck into her previous books!! This is definitely one of those books that will turn a frown upside down and make life seem a lot brighter. Grab your copy today and fall in love with The Ever After Agency series today!!!
Well done Sandy on an absolutely stunning and perfect start to what promises to be an absolutely stunning series!!!
This may be the first book I have read by Sandy but I cannot wait to get hold of more books by this extremely talented author!!!
It is always worrying when starting a new series as you have no idea who the characters are. It is very important for me to bond with not only the lead protagonists but also any characters that may make repeat appearances during the series too.
The characters were all an eclectic mix and each one of them were realistic and strong. I was completely invested in them all. It also makes them more realistic, believable and made me feel even more for them than I normally would. I absolutely loved Poppy who I thought was a friendly, strong, likeable woman and I was rooting for her throughout. My heart went out to her when certain things were happening and she felt stuck between a rock and a hard place although I won't say any more about that. She was funny, sarcastic, friendly and everything anyone could ask for in a fantastic female protagonist!!! I wasn't sure what to think of Tristan at first but he quickly grew on me and I loved his friendship with Ravi and Jacinda, along with Poppy's friendship with Shaz. There were just so many amazing characters that I loved getting to know that I could write about them all day but I don't want to bore you so I'll start to wrap it up here. However, I will add that there was definitely a very cringeworthy character but their antics made me laugh and there wasn't any characters I disliked, which makes a huge change for me as there is normally at least one character!!! Actually, hold that thought !!! I spoke to soon!!! Tristan's Aunt was a horrid money grabbing character but thankfully we don't have to put up with her much!!! Each of the characters are memorable and unique in their own ways and they are a group that I wont be forgetting any time soon! I cannot wait to meet them all again and I'm hoping they will (almost) all be in the next book in this series!!!
Pick up this book and get lost in this absolutely gorgeous page turner! This has got to be the most stunning book I have read this year 💜!!!
Congratulations Sandy on an absolutely stunning read that I just could not put down!!! I am absolutely mind blown that I have never read any of your absolutely gorgeous books yet!! I am looking forward to reading more of your previous and future books especially the next book in what promises to be a stunning series if this gorgeous read is anything to go by. I would absolutely love to see this book turned into a movie!!! Welcome to my favourite author list and here's to your next success 🥂
Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the first two chapters of Sandy's next book in this series which promises to be just as gorgeous as this book. It is one I'm definitely looking forward to reading myself!!
Overall an unputdownable, gorgeous, STUNNING page turning book filled with holidays, romance, fun, laughter, friendship and so much more!! A perfectly relaxing and stunning unique read!!!!
381 pages.
This book is just 99p to purchase on kindle, free with kindle unlimited and £9.99 in paperback at time of review via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!
Rated 5/5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.
Feel free to add me on Goodreads or follow me on my website or Facebook for more reviews.
Sandy Barker is always a good idea and this book is just another example of why. It checks the boxes of some of my favorite tropes and does it fabulously! Enemies to lovers-check! Marriage of convenience-check! Grumpy & Sunshine-check! Let’s go!!! Poppy works for the Ever After Agency, an elite matchmaking company known for working with exclusive clientele. She has nicknamed her latest client “Mr Impossible “ because the situation seems dire and he is known to not be on board with the whole idea. But as soon as Tristan “Impossible” walks in, the sparks seat to fly between him and Poppy even as she is working to set him up with his future wife and the clock is ticking as there is a very large inheritance on the line. Can Poppy and Tristan works together despite what they feel and find Tristan a match and secure his inheritance or will they give in to what they can’t deny is simmering as they spend more time together? You’ll have to read to find out, but I guarantee you’ll love the journey they go on! I can’t wait for the next book in the series! Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.
fun and cute, the second half had me giggling and smiling like an idiot 🤭 wish they didn't take so long to realize their attraction but once they do it gets good! (closed doors tho)
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.
In Match Me If You Can, matchmaker Poppy Dean has just taken on her hardest case ever, a Mr Impossible. Her new client is Tristan Fellows, who has no interest in finding love, but following his grandfather's death, he needs to marry by his 35th birthday, or lose out on a £30 million inheritance. Relying on his best friend's advice, he goes to Poppy, but none of the potential brides catch his eye. No, instead Tristan is drawn to Poppy, but that could never work, right?
I loved this book so much! I started it expecting to have some fun and a bit of a switch off, but instead I found such a fun story, full of romance and humour, and also a little bit of drama and sadness. Tristan was the dictionary definition of a grump, and Poppy is perfect as she doesn't let him get away with any of his shit. I loved the banter and snarkiness between Poppy and Tristan, and though they had some difficult moments, every second they were together was exquisite. The scenes in Greece and Scotland were so funny and though both characters suffered at times, it was adorable to see the growth in their characters, especially at the end. Tristan really developed over the course of the book, and with Poppy by his side, I know that he will grow even more in the future. I hope that both main characters are part of book 2, as I really need to see their romance again.
An absolute joy! I loved this book SO much! The cover, the title, the main characters, the plot - I loved it all. This grumpy v sunshine, forbidden love, forced proximity, closed door romance gave me all the feels. Wish I could read it again for the first time! I can't wait for the next one in this new series and I will for sure be reading more by this author. A massive five stars from me! Thank you Boldwood and NetGalley for the ARC!
This started off so good! The premise was amazing and I was so keen to read it.
Don’t waste your time with this one, the characters really don’t get any better or gain more of a personality as the book goes on. They have absolutely no chemistry which was very disappointing.
Which is a shame, the plot description made it feel like I’d be reading something amazing.
Also apparently it’s supposed to be enemies to lovers ? It just didn’t give that vibe while reading it.
Interesting storyline, an agency specialising in marriages, for whatever reason. Tristan needs to be married by his 35 birthday in order to inherit under his Grandfather’s will, that’s only a few weeks away he doesn’t know where or how he could meet someone in the time frame. His friend and lawyer Ravi, recommends the agency he used to meet his wife. His relationship turned into love, but Tristan doesn’t want love, he just needs to be married for two years to inherit and then part company with his wife. It should be simple and Polly, his advisor is determined to make it happen for him. Things don’t go well from the start, Polly is not impressed by the grouchy, difficult Tristan and the first contender from the selection of carefully vetted ladies wants to meet in Greece. Tristan hates flying so he asks that Polly comes along too, a luxury yacht on a Greek island, what could go wrong, a lot as it turns out, leaving Polly embarrassed and Tristan very angry, with Polly. This was a well written, easy read that drew you into the story and I didn’t want to put it down until it was finished. The characters were, mostly likeable, feisty, determined, grumpy, even predatory, but there was a lot of humour and it had me smiling throughout.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the chance to read this book.
Match Me If You Can by Sandy Barker is a rom-com with an enemies to lovers type storyline. Poppy Dean works for an elite London match making agency. After having her heart broken years before, she much prefers to help others sort their love life's while she stas single. Tristan Fellows is a banker who is happily single and has no plans to marry until his grandfathers will changes things. He must marry by his 35th birthday, or the family fortune is donated to charity. The only problem is his birthday is 4 weeks away.
His best friend/lawyer talks him into engaging the matchmaking agency to stepp things up. Cue some disastrous pairings, bickering and banter between Poppy and Tristan, and an attraction that they try to deny.
This story is light-hearted (aside from a couple of more serious moments) and easy to read. It's one of those stories that you can easily fall into and laugh along out loud with. I am looking forward to more in this series.
A hilarious romcom with slow burn romance, grumpy sunshine, and marriage of convince tropes.
Poppy Dean is a matchmaker at an elite London agency, she spends her days finding Mr right for everyone expecpt herself.
Poppy is in for a challenge when Tristan Fellows walks into the agency, a bachelor who has no intention of falling in love, but if he wants his 30 million inheritance he needs to have a wife by his 35th birthday.
This might just be Poppy's hardest case, yet with Tristan's birthday, it is only a month away. Tristan's friend is the one who convinces him to use the agency to help with the search. It is a rocky start with disastrous matches, bickering, and a connection that they just can't deny. You will be turning the pages to see how this unfolds.
I really enjoyed this and the chemistry between Poppy and Tristan, as well as the slow burn in this. I can't wait for the second book as the teaser chapter has piqued my interest.
Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood books for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have never read a book with this premise before but I was instantly hooked. Poppy works for a secret, discreet matchmaking agency and gets handed a case for “Mr Impossible.” Tristan needs to find a wife but time is ticking as a large inheritance is on the line. This puts up a challenge for Poppy as she needs to find someone perfect for Tristan but little does she know that she might be the one who holds all the answers. This book has all the best tropes: - grumpy x sunshine - Enemies to lovers (ish) - Marriage or convenience - Forced proximity! Can’t wait to read the next book in this series!!
*thank you to Netgalley, boldwood books and the author for the chance to read this book*
I really enjoyed this book and it was a perfect ‘easy read’. I loved the premise of the match making agency and the exclusivity of it. The characters were relatable and likeable, and they developed nicely throughout. I was waiting for the inevitable hook up which came towards the end & of course the second thoughts but I really liked how it all came to fruition! Thanks NetGalley for letting me read this book!
Give me a Tristan any time of the day! He's just the type to swoon over. Love me a grumpy MC, but He's really not. Just a bit reserved, underneath there's layers of layers of a very loving, romantic and kind man our Poppy gets to uncover through the Story. Such a lovely couple! And Jass and Ravi were a great bonus, too. Loved the banter and affection!
I enjoyed this read. It was an easy love story that felt like I slipped into a short time period in these characters lives. Both characters felt really down to earth, and the story overall felt like I was having a friend tell it to me. -grumpy x sunshine -enemies to lovers -forbidden love
The tension build up was great but it’s pretty much a closed door romance. Even all the side characters are great, and I hope that we get to see some of their stories!
Ooo!! I loved this book! I'm sure it's every girl's dream to meet the man of their dreams & live happily ever after. Nothing is straight forward & match making is an interesting subject! Poppy works as a matchmaker for an upmarket company. She uses her psychology degree to help find people their perfect partner. Tristan Fellowes needs to be married within 40 days to ensure he becomes the beneficiary of 30 million pounds from his Grand father's will. Be carried along with the ups & downs of this 'impossible' task.
I absolutely loved this book. It has several lovely tropes in it. Grumpy Rich Man, ever a bachelor and forced into marriage before a birthday for inheritance. It has twists and turns that made it difficult to put down!
