Rate this book
When the magical, mysterious Maggie Parker stumbles across a vibrating puzzle box in her garage, she uncovers more than just her late grandfather’s secret toolbox—it’s the doorway to an elemental destiny she never asked for. Between dodging rogue gnomes, negotiating with sentient grackles, and narrowly avoiding death by bubble, she’s not just uncovering Austin’s weird underbelly; she’s living it.

But can Maggie balance the demands of her burgeoning magical responsibilities with the sparks flying between her and the swoon-worthy Jake? And how does she save the Earth—which is apparently not a planet, but a malfunctioning ship—without becoming its latest victim?

With action, adventure, a touch of romance, and Maggie’s trademark sharp wit, The Magic Compass spins a wild tale of discovery. Can Maggie Parker save the world, find her footing in magic, and not lose her sense of humor—or her heart—along the way?

fun read

I loved this story about Maggie the Peabrain. Her adventures as a detective in Austin are nothing compared to what she discovers about herself and her world. Hard to say much without giving away things you should discover yourself, but there are gnomes and elves and everything you would expect in a fantasy novel, but this is happening in modern day Austin, Texas.
Talk about cliffhangers! I’m reaching for book 2 as soon as I’m done with this review. (By the way, leaving a review is a nice way to say thank you to the author. You can usually get in touch with them by the reference at the end of the book,)

peabrain at heart

New adventures, new characters, same promise of adventure. Keep the surprises coming as our detective tries to come into her magic and survive on borrowed time. Can’t wait for book 2!
